  • Replacement speaker cables for Cambridge soundworks megaworks THX 5.1 550

Hi i'm looking for 2 x 5 metre speaker cables for the Cambridge soundworks megaworks THX 5.1 550 has anyone got any ideas on where to get them, have check creative shop on creative web site.thanks

Also, one of the wires has packed up and I cant find any on creative's website... It is speaker to sub lead, plugs into sub with a Jack and splits into 2 different wires (black and red) to make 2 separate connections to the back of the speaker. Anyone know where they are sold (dont really fancy getting my wallet raped by PC World)?

  • Creative MegaWorks THX 2.1 250D

I have recently purchased a Creative MegaWorks THX 2.1 250D but when I connected it to a computer I had heard a hisss noise from the satellites. I have also creative sound blaster live 24bit. I want to get rid of that noise which is very anoing so please help.

MrHenderson , hissing from speakers is coming only when they are turned ON and no matter how u set volume , bass , treble or push MUTE button hissing is always there with the same intensity. When i connect headphones to speakers remote control hiss is gone (in headphones). Also i connect each individual satellite speaker to portable CD player and there`s no sign of a hiss , just like it`s supposed to be. I agree that "normal" hissing is presented in every audio system but u can hear it only when your ear is very close to speaker.Hissing coming from MegaWorks i can hear from 10 meters , now imagine sitting in front of a computer.Like i said , my first set of MegaWorks didn`t have that hissing at all , just normal hiss which u can`t hear sitting in front of a computer.First set was OK (until they burned) and i paid for them 290$ , when i get replacement for new set price was 90$!That is quite significant price drop which leads me to conclusion that CREATIVE start using cheaper meterials and components for building MegaWorks 250D. I think the first series of MegaWorks 250D was better quality.Harvey got a second set with the same hissing problem , that just confirms it. Harvey, i agree with everything you said. MrHenderson i agree about that running-in but i think this is reserved for Hi-Fi systems over .1000$ price. My first MegaWorks 250D sounded the same from the first day.Sometimes i was listening music with volume set to MAX and didn`t have any problems. I was always cautioned to not add to much bass which will cause distortion because we all now how loud this speakers can play. After 0- months of use they burned out. But when it comes to for some reason amplifier overload or overheating souldnt the amplifier have some kinda overload-overheating protection?
Now , all i need is another replacement with new set of MegaWorks 250D with the same hissing problem like Harvey!

  • MegaWorks THX 5.1 550 QUESTION

Can somone tell me a little bit about the MegaWorks THX 5.1 550 speaker system? Im just curious how well do they sound. And if the bass rattles the floor boards?

I have had this speaker system for 3 years. All I can say is that I have totally enjoyed the system. The highs are crisp, but I would not say the base is clear and thumping. It does suffer from some muffling depending on the sound. You can always tweak settings to your liking. I currently have an issue with the fuse blowing on the powered sub. Trying to figure this one out. If you can find a system on the cheap, I would buy it.
    Good luck.

  • Where i can buy Creative MegaWorks THX 6.1 650D help please !

Where i can buy Creative MegaWorks? THX 6.1 650D
i search but i cant find ? please help

    http://ecoustics.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=779899
Note that it can help if you search for "Cambridge MegaWorks 650" as well as "Creative MegaWorks 650". The speakers are based off of mini-HT speakers manufactured by Cambridge SoundWorks.
Cambridge SoundWorks does not have the MegaWorks 650 as they have been discontinued for the GigaWorks.

    Hey All,
Ok this has changed alot since i was last here.
Basically i got speakers 3 years ago from Creative. The volume control continually died and i was messed around for an entire year
    BEFORE
I got my new speakers to say sorry for the fuss which was a set of the above speakers
Now im in third year at University and i have a major digital project to work on.
And for some bizarre reason, this morning i turned on my PC like usual and my speakers are completely distorted.
Im sorry yeah, but these speakers are meant to be good. When i got them "I want something thats just going to last with 5.1 sound until after my final year when i can actually afford to replace the crap Augidy card (with the drivers that dont work) and the creative speakers for a better make such as ASDA - Smart Price.
There is no way any representative from Creative can reply to this and tell me that every piece of hardware i have had from creative has either been dead on delivery or breaks within 9 months has been my fault.
I wouldnt even mind but its not like i rag my system at full blast.
The drivers are not the problem. I have just spent all morning using the official drivers, modifying the Audigy 2 drivers, used the KXAudio driver and tried another 2 random drivers.
I have on board Nvidia sound, i tried using that instead of my soundcard.
    Distorted.
I removed the speakers from my PC and attached a Aux from my TV to my speakers.
    Distorted.
So basically the speakers are dead yet again. Yet again. Do creative products really have a life span of 9 months?
I cannot afford to wait around like i did last time where it took 2 months and 2 failed modules just so i could get my work done.
I really need this fixed as soon as possible. I have done nothing to abuse these speakers and if anything i have made sure no one abuses them on full blast and still it dies.
This is obviously awkward due to the fact my original system invoice has a different set of speakers. Although i did end up working my way to the top of the creative support team. Something im not prepared to waste time, money and effort on again.
I need someone to start helping me with a replacement system as soon as possible. I have no hesitation to be a **bleep** like last time either if i feel im being mugged off which i hate to say, seems to be creatives set of values. Build pish hardware with no working software and then send the customer around in circles with promised phone calls, ignored emails and generally just ignoring the user after a product is purchased.
All i need is to pass my degree and then me and creative can go our seperate ways. Again this is an on going problem so starting at the bottom of the technical support chain is of no interest to me. I refuse to pay 50 quid to send back faulty speakers, fair enough if i had anything to do with the death of them but i didnt. As far as im concered sending me speakers to have yet more headaches over is something that i wont tolerate.
    Any help would be grand.
    Cheers.
    Clark.

  • MegaWorks THX 5.1 550

If I have this speakers, am I need a receiver?
I have a sound card with anlog outputs, am I need a receiver or the speaker have a amplifier?
    Thanks.

Pretty much all PC speakers have a built-in amplifier. Just connect the cables from the soundcard to the inputs on the back of the subwoofer and you should be set.
Note that you'll need a soundcard that supports at least 5.1 output to use all the speakers of the system.

  • Megaworks THX 5.1 550 Fuse

A simple question but one that I can't find the answer to anywhere - what size fuse does the powered sub-woofer have? I know from the manual that it's a 250v but what ampage? I assume that it's a 20mm fuse?Mine has blown and I need a replacement ASAP. Rich

Should say in very small and hard to read writing on the side of the fuse (metal bits). I have a Gigaworks S750 and it has a 3.25Amp Time-delay fuse if i recall correctly. Couldnt speak for yours im afraid. The time-delay bit is important for subwoofers (well, amplifiers), so make sure the one you get is.

  • MegaWorks THX 5.1 550 Doesn't power on..

It just quit powering on. Any ideas? Any fixes? How do you send this out of warranty item back?
    Help!!!

    stuttsy,
You would need to contact technical support and discuss out-of-warranty repair options with them.

  • MegaWorks THX 5.1 550 Speakers power light comes on but no sound

Grand kids were watching movies on my computer system this summer and my speakers no longer work. When my wife booted up the computer she heard a loud pop and since then I have had no sound. Checked the sound card and needed to install new drivers for it to work but still nothing from the speakers. Sub woofer used to pop (softly) on boot up but nothing now. Power indicating green light is on.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Amisk4746,
Can you double check the connections? Disconnect your speakers system and test the individual line outs of the sound card/onboard sound using a pair of earphones. If possible please test speakers system with another computer, that should tell you if it is working properly.

i cant get any sound from the center satelite and the dvd player sign just 2 icon (stereo)
i try everthing but it doesnt works. Please heeeeeelp. Im near to madness.

That's funny! Do u mean u cant get any sound from front LT & RT speakers but yr rear speaker and centre speaker all have sound when playing vcd, mp3 etc?
Try changing different audio input (like setting it to left, right or stereo channels) from yr dvd player and try.
