Creator and image databases
I'm trying to create an application that uses a database to store pictures along with other info. My question is, how can I retrieve the images from the database and show them in a paging setup like the Data Table component? So far I have been able to store and retrieve images in the database, but only able to retrieve them to a file. I have not been able to figure out how to show a picture retrieved from the database to the page itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to insert or embed and image into cfmail from a database-stored path to an actual image. The actual JPEG image is stored in a folder called "images_personnel". The path to the image under the column titled photopath is stored in my database table as "/file/images_personnel/28.jpg". Displaying the image on the screen renders without a problem, embedding the same image as part of a cfloop query does not insert/embed the image into an email. All of the other output of the same cfloop displays and emails just fine. However none of the photos of each personelle show up. What an I doing wrong?
My code is below:
<cfquery name="Staffreport" datasource="master">
Select staffreport.*, name.personnelid, name.email, name.last, name.noiid, stafflt, CONCAT(name.fname,' ',name.middle,' (',name.last,')') AS teammember, CONCAT(name.fname,' ',name.middle) AS teammember2, concat(name.photopath,'',name.photo)as hisphoto, stafflt.*, trim(concat(ltfname,' ',ltmiddle)) as LT from Staffreport, name, stafflt
where 0=0
and stalt = '#Session.user_id#'
and ltid = '#session.user_id#'
and staweekbegin = <cfqueryparam value="#form.staweekbegin#" cfsqltype="cf_sql_date" />
AND staweekend = <cfqueryparam value="#form.staweekend#" cfsqltype="cf_sql_date" />
AND stapersonnelid = personnelID
<!---AND ltid = stalt--->
AND CITY = 'richmond'
AND STATUS <> 'd'
AND STATUS <> 'T'
AND type = 'personnel'
Group by personnelid
Order by teammember
</cfquery>
<cfmail>...
<cfloop query="staffreport"><br />
<table width="90%" border="0" cellspacing="2" cellpadding="4" align="left">

</tr>
<tr>

</cfloop>
</cfmail>You'll need to provide a full URL link to the image ("http://mywebserver/file/images_personnel/28.jpg"), not just a relative path. Remember, the email client that is used to view the email content knows nothing of the internals of your web server - it can only follow a complete URL to get images and other resources.

What does this mean? iPhoto[207] have info and image but no ref
Bought a MacBook about 8 weeks ago. Had to reload it from scratch yesterday (Mac OS DVD's) after numerous issues surface (files disappearing, random crashes, etc.) Disk Repair/fsck didn't work.
Today I imported a bunch of pictures from a CD, went to edit some and post with IWeb, and got the error message above in my console file. I deleted all the pix and just reloaded them. (10.4.8 was not a positive experience for me.)
Love the Mac, but this is getting to be real work at this point.
I was a former Unix System Admin and spent 21 years in IT with AT&T, IBM, etc. Currently running 6.0.4. Fearing that my hard drive is having issues.
Comments welcome. Thanks in Advance. Error detail...

2006-10-18 18:05:06.520 iPhoto[207] have info and image but no ciimageYou mention the errors in Console. But what happened, visually, in iPhoto? Did it not send the photos? Not import the photos from the CD?
It's getting to sound like permissions restrictions are preventing iPhoto from doing what it normally does to photos - create thumbnails, export the EXIF information to its database. The last line seems to indicate that it couldn't find the link between the displayed thumbnail and the actual photo file.
Do you allow iPhoto to import into its iPhoto Library folder? (default) or do you have Copy to iPhoto Library turned off in Advanced prefs?
How did you import into iPhoto, specifically?
iPhoto makes a lot of assumptions and is finicky about some things expecially structure. It doesn't like things being done behind its back, i.e. though the Finder or through Terminal or anything else. Usually with that last Console comment, it's a strong indicator something changed. -
I updated Apple Configurator to 1.3 and my database isn't migrating.
I updated Apple configurator to 1.3 from 1.2.1 and the database isnt migrating, it crashes during the process. When i use time machine to go back to before the update it starts trying to migrate again it doesnt revert it to 1.2.1 . When i try and revert back a few months the database does migrate but that was when we had personal profiles assigned to the devices but that was causing problems because a single corrupte user file can cause configurator to crash regularly and barely run. When i try and operate within the migrated 1.3 it beachballs/freezes as soon as you click anywhere within the app. Ideally i would want a away where i could revert to 1.2.1.

There have been a lot of crashing issues with 1.3. There are a few discussions going on here in the communities that may help you:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/22503007?ac_cid=tw123456#22503007
https://discussions.apple.com/message/22456350#22456350
Also, it looks like there are issues with Lion and AC v1.3: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4613
I plan to stick with v1.2.1 until some of these issues get cleared up.
Good luck and hope this helps!!

Printing text and images together on a single page (printjob)
Hello all,
how am I able to print both text and images on the same page (defined by one printjob), using the javax.print API?
It seems that one printjob (one page) can have only one flavor, that is text, or GIF, or JPEG, etc. Since the majority of print jobs out there usually require text and graphics on the same sheet this seems a bit strange.
I have resorted on creating a PDF file through the iText library, and then printing by converting to GIF (quality is significantly reduced though, not an option), or by using the Acrobat Reader command line from java (looks dangerous for batch printing). My printer does not support printing directly using the PDF flavour.
So, I solved the problem by converting to PDF, but printing is still cumbersome. Any other ideas?
Thank you for your time,
Ari.TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -

It's only really good for Adobe document formats, if you want to be able to view and/or tag documents.

All projects and images on Aperture have disappeared.
My Aperture application froze so I had to force quit it, and restart the computer. When I reopened it every project and image for the past two years has dissapeared. I attempted to restore the library and application using time machine, but each one I restored had the same issue. I have also attempted to restore the database using Aperture first aid, but still nothing. I am at a loss as to how to move forward!

Hooks to networked image database.
I am looking for a workaround that might let me use lightroom as a "feeder" application to a larger image database that can also accept CMYK image files.
I have many thousands of corporate images many of which must be in CMYK format because my printers do not do a good job of RGB conversion.
Until some future version of Lightroom that might be network and CMYK aware, I would love to use lightroom to help me select new images from cameras, do color correction and create "initial" keywording that would accessible for new images within lightroom.
Then I could use lightroom for new images and also import these images into another program that would also let me see the legacy CMYK images and their keywords.
I know this would be duplication in many ways but until lightroom matures into a DAM (if ever) that can also handle CMYK it would be a workaround.
Any ideas?In this book ( Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals Contents / Search / Index / PDF ) you can find that information:
Representing Large Data Types
In times gone by, the way to represent large data objects in the database was to use the LONG, RAW, and LONG RAW types. Oracle recommends that current applications use the various LOB types, such as CLOB, BLOB and BFILE, for this data.
See the Oracle9i Application Developer's Guide - Large Objects (LOBs) , for information about LOB datatypes.

Editing Image database columns From Apex front End
Hello,
How is it possible to edit an image datatype in Application express. Suppose if i want to edit an existing i mage and replace it with an edited version and save the newly edited verison in the database.
Is it possible to edit and image from the front end itself.Hello,
It depends exactly what sort of functionality you mean by 'edit', if you mean resize/scale and things like that then read the previous links I supplied.
If you mean duplicating the sort of functionality that Photoshop et al provide then yes it's probably possible, however it sounds like a huge amount of work to me (as in it would be a 'product' in it's own right).
If you can start defining limits as to what editing features you want to provide then I think it will help to define the scale of your task, otherwise if you're just saying 'edit' as a catch-all phrase then I think you have a lot of work ahead of you (interesting work...but a lot of it ;).

I updated iphoto and images weren't visible.
I updated iphoto and images weren't visible. Still in the library but not visible.. did all the normal start up fixes like rebuilding thumbnails, database etc --- bt nothing worked...
I copied images folders ORIGINAL MODIFIED etc -to an external harddrive and tried to restore my library from time maching - but now it tells me I don't have the memory...
Of course I deleted the 'new' library and tried ... still the same information.
I am now copying my time machine iphoto library to an external harddrive - but what is the go with this? I've also lost my iphoto books that took hours to build...
I'm devastated!
Any help would be appreciated!Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 - select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired. -
Large Images Database Management
I want to know that can I store my images (of size nearly 1 GB each with JPEG 2000 extension) directly in database (SQL server)? or will I store them in server directory,
like in folder structure by year vice order? which one is better? In SQL server option what implementation strategy will be preferable?
Engr. Mudassar Ali Software EngineerYou can map a drive letter to the UNC path as you can any other share. For example:
NET USE D:
\\YourServer\ServerShare\DatabaseDirectory\FileTableName
Below is a tested example of triggers to maintain the meta data table. Slightly different than the example David provided but you get the idea. This will associate the meta data with the parent folder and images within whenever an image

Migrating image database in Informix 9.21 to Oracle 9i
I am going to be migrating an image database from Informix 9.21 to Oracle 9i and am needing to know
what Oracle9i has to offer as far as options in storing large media types - image, video, audio, etc...
Specifically, does Oracle have anything comparable to Informix' smart blobspace? Is it possible to migrate
image data from Informix to Oracle? I know the migration kits only are available up to Informix version 7.
What does interMedia offer?Hi,
I was unable to reproduce your problem. I carried out the following steps in attempt to replicate the issue:
1. I launched the workbench, version 10.1.0.2, selecting the Oracle Lite "Default Repository".
2. Using the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console, I created a user "rtdb" with the password "rtdb" on my target Oracle 9i database.
3. I captured a test Informix database, generating its source and oracle models.
4. I then proceeded to migrate the database to Oracle and supplied my target Oracle9i database information in the "Migration Wizard, Step 1 of 4: Destination Database Details", supplying rtdb/rtdb as the username/password.
5. My test database migrated with no such error messages reported.
If you carried out the migration steps as I have outlined above, and are still experiencing issues with a "Failed to connect" error, I would contact support.

Creator and futureproof AJAX framework ?
Hi,
I am glad there are a couple of AJAX enabled Creator JSF components. No doubt over the next year or so there will be more, and richer AJAX JSF components from SUN.
What should one use now to make the best of Creator and AJAX ?
I see current options as ICEFaces, jMaki, or Dojo, etc. I would prefer to stay with JSF components rather than a 'lower level' AJAX framework. I would hate to lose the ability to use the Java Row Sets and Data Providers from Creator that make so easy to get data from databases. Design time drag and drop of components is nice, but I could live without it for a while if need be.
I am hoping for JSF features such as communicating with other components (click one button and a table does an AJAX refresh), drag and drop, pop-ups, etc.
Any suggestions on how to achieve AJAX now while making the most of Creator and not digging into a hole for the future ?
Thanks,
JCYou might want to consider the jMaki framework. See http://blogs.sun.com/divas/entry/using_the_dojo_combobox_in

Using Flex/PHP to Display MYSQL data and Images
Does anyone have any good examples of using Flex 3 in conjunction with PHP to display data and images from a mysql database? I've searched a lot and it seems hard to find this combination. I have manged to create a login system using this which allows users to login via usernames and passwords that are stored in my mysql database (Grizzz helped me out a lot with this).
But I now want to create a product selection in the site with the categories down the left hand side and the products related to these categories displayed in the other panel once each of these products are clicked. The guy I'm making it for wants to be able to add and delete categories as well as add and delete products so obviously it needs to be done using php and mysql. I'm looking for something similar to the way the online shop is laid out in the following example:-
https://www.whitestonecheese.co.nz/Radshop/bin/Whitestone.html
Thanks for any suggestions.To solve this problem I had to use labelFunction. The working line was this:
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Description" labelFunction="dataGrid_labelFunc" dataField="messageDetail"/>
The function looks like this:
private function dataGrid_labelFunc(item:XML, col:DataGridColumn):String {
var qN:QName = new QName(vm, col.dataField);
return item[qN].text(); -
