Critical garageband file missing

I used garageband to record some voicemessages from my parents before recycling the old answering machine. I saved and titled the file after listening to be sure it recorded ok. Today, I'm ready to do some edits. The file appears in Open Recent in Garageband, but is not coming up with Spotlight or under Finder. Please, please don't tell me the file is lost forever. (Last Time Machine backup was the day before this recording.)

Hooray! I figured it out. Needed to specify the source recording type in order to access the file. Whew!!

Garageband files not opening properly on new macbook

Hi all, I'm moving from an iMac 2007 running 10.7.5 to a new macbook pro I just bought. Most everything has gone smoothly with the exception of Garageband. Last might I moved my old files over to the new computer, saving them in the the "Songs" folder just as they were on my old. When double clicking to launch them, they do launch, but a save window immediately comes up, wanting me to save each file as a new file, generally with a 1 at the end of the file name (since the file name already exists). Is this because my old Garageband files are not compatible with the new? Do they not get upgrade or updated? I stopped and didn't save anything as I have about 100 Garageband songs/files and didn't want to have to go through and resave all of them.
Secondarily, most of the files I did manage to open all had missing loops. I did buy loop pack once, but I also moved that over and save it in the same place as it was on the last machine. (I believe in the "Audio" folder in the Library). But also it seemed some generic Apple loops were missing as well. Just wondering if I have to save my old ones, if so do they just get added vs overwriting the current folder?

I'm not an expert at AppleScript, but here on the forum, theres a subforum about AppleScript. Try ask there, if someone can make a script, that can take ALL the files in a folder, and convert to the new version.

Garageband Files on Logic Express and vice versa

My daughter uses Logic Express at school (sorry, I don't know which version). She has been trying to do her homework on our eMac (OS 10.3.9) using Garageband 1 and her M-Audio midi/usb keyboard via USB.
Her teacher says that Garageband files should work fine with Logic Express and vice versa.
The problem is they don't. We have tried importing files, also saving in one programme and opening in the other - all to no avail.
Presumably we are doing something wrong somewhere. Does anyone know how to get Logic Express to use Garageband 1 files and vice versa, please?
One more point of information, she saves the files to a 'PikaOne Slim Flycase' 40gb Portable HD to take to school to use on an Apple Laptop type computer (Powerbook?). Both home and school machines appear to be working perfectly with this device.
She also has some software called 'Logic Hit Kit' but I don't think this is has anything to do with Logic Express. It's files do not work with Logic Express either

Yes, apparently they intend to at some point. But, they have more pressing things to attend to first, so it might be a while. I have discovered that there's a special forum about this.

Error file missing when trying to upgrade

I reinstalled Elements 11 onto my laptop. When I try to use my upgrade that is in my Adobe file it says there is a file missing. I have deinstalled and reinstalled and the same error comes up.

you need both the exe and the 7z files (file 1 of 2 and file 2 of 2). put both in the same directory and click the exe.

Garageband 10 won't play my old garageband files correctly

My previous computer broke, but I had all my garageband 6 files on external HD. So when I got my new computer, it came with the new garageband. Ok, no problem. But when I open up my garageband files into the new version, nothing but the piano instrument (and a couple of other basic instruments) work. But my drunm kits, strings, and other things don't because this garageband seemed to have cleaned house and gotten rid of a ton of instruments (and replaced them with a couple crappy ones). I also had the Jam packs. So my question is this - is there anyway to get the old instruments from garageband 6 over to the new one, or, is there a way I can just re-install the old garageband, as I found it's interface to be cleaner?

Have you already installed the additional instruments, that come with GarageBand 10? You start the download from GarageBand's main menu bar:    GarageBand > Restore Sound Library or Download additional Sounds.
That will download several GB of additional instruments and loops.    But quite a few sounds and loops will still be missing, if you previously had GarageBand 6.0.5 and the Jam Packs. Do you still have the installer DVDs for GarageBand and the Jam packs? Then reinstall from the original media. Some JamPack installers use PowerPC code and do not run directly on Yosemite, so you need the work-around described in the FAQ.
If you still have an backup of your old Mac, you could also simply migrate the missing files from the Instrument Library and the loop library to your new mac.
The instruments are installed in the folder     /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/
The loops are installed in /Library/Audio/

Transferring GarageBand files from iTunes to iPad 2

I haven't discovered a way to transfer GarageBand files from the MacBook Pro via iTunes to my iPad with GarageBand installed.
I have selected 3 simple files i have done and added them to the GarageBand list on the Apps screen in iTunes. Each is a .band file and doesn't contain any plugins or video.
Each time I sync and open GarageBand on the iPad 2, I select the load icon that is supposed to show these three files from iTunes. Nothing is there.
Did I miss something?

i believe that its purpose at this time is for shareing GBi projects between iPads. perhaps a future releasse will allow for GBX to GBi transfers. if it's a feature you want, be sure to let Apple know:

According to the above link iTunes for Windows version 11.4 and later is said to have fixed the issue of iTunes displaying GarageBand files as folders. I have been stuck with this for last few months since I performed a factory reset on my iPad Mini. I had backed up my GarageBand working files to my Windows7 PC before proceeding with the factory reset. At the moment I am using iTunes for Windows version 12.0.1.26 (went through 3 or 4 version upgrades since I took the back up) on Windows 7 and I still see the GarageBand files as folders and can't transfer my previously exported files back to my iPad Mini which is running iOS 8.1.1 currently. Am I missing something here? Hoping someone has some answers for me.

im just new to itunes and ipad mini is my first apple product thats why im really having a hard time with this. i cant transfer the video file to my library... i tried dragging it to the "movies" part in my library but it still doesnt copy to the movie librarry just like how i do it with my songs.. not even the typical list appears.... all it says is movies and studd about the library and itunes, ill post a pic so u can see...

Actually, on Linux (and probably most other Unices), deleting a file will not affect processes opening the file. They still keep a file handle and don't detect the loss of the file. After all processes closed the file, the file is really deleted (although processes not opened the file cannot open the file).
In this sense, deleting a critical file may not cause the db to crash immedately. But this is because OS does not let Oracle know that the file was deleted. As a result oracle does not know it.

You will, because the credited funds are on your iTunes account, not the application. When you reinstall iTunes just configure it with your old iTunes account and your credits will be there waiting for you.

I did have the setting Effective date, what cause the problem?

Have a look at following post and run the sql in this post to see if your template definition is missing.

You could also run Application Engine PSXPCLEAN to clean orphan rows.
Are you running the report online or through PeopleCode?
In last case make sure the effdt is set correct in PeopleCode.
Also have a look if your server time settings are correct.

Try rebuilding your iTunes Library:
(This will cause all devices to see your library as a "new" library)
1. Open iTunes.
2. File>LIbrary>Organize Library: Consolidate Files.
-This process may take some time.
3. Quit iTunes.
4. Browse to your iTunes Folder.
5. Drag the files to the desktop, but leave the folders in place (folders will be iTunes Media, Album Artwork, Previous iTunes Libraries)
6. Open iTunes.
7. File>Library>Import Playlist.
8. Direct iTunes to import the "iTunes Library.xml" that is sitting on your desktop.
9. Once the process is complete attempt to resync your iPod.

How do I move GarageBand files from iPad 2 to New iPad?

My laptop is a PC, not a Mac.
At the Apple store I was told it was no problem. I merely back up my iPad 2 and then restore my New iPad (3) from that backup. So far it isn't working and I've tried several times.
Weirdly, when I first set up my New iPad (3) iTunes set it up as the default "Steve's iPad" which is what I called my iPad 2 on iTunes, and my GarageBand files appeared on my new IPad (3). So I know it's possible.
HOWEVER, I hadn't backed up or synched my iPad 2 in a while, so my newer GarageBand files weren't on it. So I backed up/synched my iPad 2 and then restored my New iPad to original settings, and clicked on "restore from Steve's iPad" No luck. No GarageBand files. I tried this several times,with no luck.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Here is how you can export a .band folder to your iPhone, it should work for iPad as well.
This was my steps
1. Download iExplorer and install it. Connect your iPhone
2. Find the folder "com.apple.mobilegarageband" in iExplorers browser
3. Drag and drop your folder .band to the folder "Documents". (!! Your'e not done yet!)
4. In GarageBand on your iPhone press the plus-button as you would start a new song. Choose "Copy from iTunes". Choose your imported song.
5. Start rockin'

Can't empty GarageBand files from trash

I am creating GarageBand files; when I move them to trash and then try to empty the trash, I get a message saying I need to make sure they are "unlocked" and permissons are all okay, and then it gives me two options: Stop or Continue, neither of which successfully deletes the file from the trash.
I have gone to the file's "Get Info" and confirmed the the "Locked" box is NOT checked, and that my permissions are "Read and Write" and I've even tried to unlock the little lock at the bottom of the Get Info screen. To no avail, I still cannot empty the file from the trash.
I have checked user communities and tried to hold down the Option Key while I empty the trash. One time out of 4 or 5, this works. I have also tried to hold down the Option AND shift keys at the same time while I empty the trash. No difference.
The only thing that seems to work is one user's suggestion to open the "Terminal" utility and type in some command that supposedly resets permissions and empties the trash and fixes everything. This has worked both times I've done it, but then the next time I put a new file into the trash, it's once again back to being stuck and "locked."
I'm not sure whether to post this in GarageBand community or Lion/general pages, so I may do both...but can anyone help me here?

How do I get GarageBand files from an older mac onto my iPad 2? I can open the GarageBand Documents folder through iTunes while the iPad is sync'd but I can't seem to "add..." any of my old .band folders to the iPad to be able to view those music projects. When I tried I could only sync individual data files contained in the .band folders over to the iPad and there was no way to organize them into .band project folders. What can I do here to get these GarageBand projects onto my iPad for further use?

This is not currently possible. You can transfer an iPad project to the Mac, and transfer songs/loops from the Mac to iPad, but not GB files from Mac to iPad.
