CRMOD Presentation variable scope and usage in drilldown report

Hello dear all,
I have dashboard and presentation variables on dashboard promt. When selecting these presentation variables all work fine within dashboard.
But when I drilldown to another report that also uses these presentation varibales its not working.
How to make possible to use presentation variables within dashboard ? Or maybe there is another way how to accomplish this.

why do you want to show folder name for every column? folder name means name of the folder that reports saved in?? or presentation table name??
you may use static rep variable to display folder name in report.
Thanks
Jay.

  • Javascript discussion: Variable scopes and functions

    Hi,
    I'm wondering how people proceed regarding variable scope, and calling
    functions and things. For instance, it's finally sunk in that almost
    always a variable should be declared with var to keep it local.
    But along similar lines, how should one deal with functions? That is,
    should every function be completely self contained -- i.e. must any
    variables outside the scope of the function be passed to the function,
    and the function may not alter any variables but those that are local to
    it? Or is that not necessary to be so strict?
    Functions also seem to be limited in that they can only return a single
    variable. But what if I want to create a function that alters a bunch of
    variables?
    So I guess that's two questions:
    (1) Should all functions be self-contained?
    (2) What if the function needs to return a whole bunch of variables?
    Thanks,
    Ariel

    Ariel:
    (Incidentally, I couldn't find any way of  marking answers correct when I visited the web forums a few days ago, so I gave up.)
    It's there...as long as you're logged in at least, and are the poster of the thread.
    What I want is to write code that I can easily come back to a few months later
    and make changes/add features -- so it's only me that sees the code, but
    after long intervals it can almost be as though someone else has written
    it! So I was wondering if I would be doing myself a favour by being more
    strict about make functions independent etc. Also, I was noticing that
    in the sample scripts that accompany InDesign (written by Olav Kvern?)
    the functions seem always to require all variables to be passed to it.
    Where it is not impractical to do so, you should make functions independent and reusable. But there are plenty of cases where it is impractical, or at least very annoying to do so.
    The sample scripts for InDesign are written to be in parallel between three different languages, and have a certain lowest-common-denominator effect. They also make use of some practices I would consider Not Very Good. I would not recommend them as an example for how to learn to write a large Javascript project.
    I'm not 100% sure what you mean by persistent session. Most of my
    scripts are run once and then quit. However, some do create a modeless
    dialog (ie where you can interface with the UI while running it), which
    is the only time I need to use #targetengine.
    Any script that specifies a #targetengine other than "main" is in a persistent session. It means that variables (and functions) will persist from script invokation to invokation. If you have two scripts that run in #targetengine session, for instance, because of their user interfaces, they can have conficting global variables. (Some people will suggest you should give each script its own #targetengine. I am not convinced this is a good idea, but my reasons against it are mostly speculation about performance and memory issues, which are things I will later tell you to not worry about.)
    But I think you've answered one of my questions when you say that the
    thing to avoid is the "v1" scope. Although I don't really see what the
    problem is in the context of InDesign scripting (unless someone else is
    going to using your script as function in one of theirs). Probably in
    Web design it's more of an issue, because a web page could be running
    several scripts at the same time?
    It's more of an issue in web browsers, certainly (which I have ~no experience writing complex Javascript for, by the way), but it matters in ID, too. See above. It also complicates code reuse across projects.
    Regarding functions altering variables: for example, I have a catalog
    script. myMasterPage is a variable that keeps track of which masterpage
    is being used. A function addPage() will add a page, but will need to
    update myMasterPage because many other functions in the script refer to
    that. However, addPage() also needs to update the total page count
    variable, the database-line-number-index-variable and several others,
    which are all used in most other functions. It seems laborious and
    unnecessary to pass them all to each function, then have the function
    alter them and return an array that would then need to be deciphered and
    applied back to the main variables. So in such a case I let the function
    alter these "global" (though not v1) variables. You're saying that's okay.
    Yes, that is OK. It's not a good idea to call that scope "global," though, since you'll promote confusion. You could call it...outer function scope, maybe? Not sure; that assumes addPage() is nested within some other function whose scope is containing myMasterPage.
    It is definitely true that you should not individually pass them to the function and return them as an array and reassign them to the outer function's variables.
    I think it is OK for addPage() to change them, yes.
    Another approach would be something like:
    (function() {
      var MPstate = {
        totalPages: 0,
        dbline: -1
      function addPage(state) {
        state.totalPages++;
        state.dbline=0;
        return state;
      MPstate = addPage(MPstate);
    I don't think this is a particularly good approach, though. It is clunky and also doesn't permit an easy way for addPage() to return success or failure.
    Of course it could instead do something like:
        return { success: true, state: state };
      var returnVal = addPage(MPstate);
      if (returnVal.success) { MPstate = returnVal.state; }
    but that's not very comforting either. Letting addPage() access it's parent functions variables works much much better, as you surmised.
    However, the down-side is that intuitively I feel this makes the script
    more "messy" -- less legible and professional. (On the other hand, I
    recall reading that passing a lot of variables to functions comes with a
    performance penalty.)
    I think that as long as you sufficiently clearly comment your code it is fine.
    Remember this sort of thing is part-and-parcel for a language that has classes and method functions inside those classes (e.g. Java, Python, ActionScript3, C++, etc.). It's totally reasonable for a class to define a bunch of variables that are scoped to that class and then implement a bunch of methods to modify those class variables. You should not sweat it.
    Passing lots of variables to functions does not incur any meaningful performance penalty at the level you should be worrying about. Premature optimization is almost always a bad idea. On the other hand, you should avoid doing so for a different reason -- it is hard to read and confusing to remember when the number of arguments to something is more than three or so. For instance, compare:
    addPage("iv", 3, "The rain in spain", 4, loremIpsumText);
    addPage({ name: "iv", insertAfter: 3, headingText: "The rain in spain",
      numberColumns: 4, bodyText: loremIpsumText});
    The latter is more verbose, but immensely more readable. And the order of parameters no longer matters.
    You should, in general, use Objects in this way when the number of parameters exceeds about three.
    I knew a function could return an array. I'll have to read up on it
    returing an object. (I mean, I guess I intuitively knew that too -- I'm
    sure I've had functions return textFrames or what-have-you),
    Remember that in Javascript, when we say Object we mean something like an associative array or dictionary in other languages. An arbitrary set of name/value pairs. This is confusing because it also means other kinds of objects, like DOM objects (textFrames, etc.), which are technically Javascript Objects too, because everything inherits from Object.prototype. But...that's not what I mean.
    So yes, read up on Objects. They are incredibly handy.

  • Issue in using presentation variable as filter condition in the reports

    Hi,
    I have an issue in using presentation variable as filter condition in my reports the details are as follows:
    Details :
    We want to implement the Max and Min variables through Presentation variables only.we do not want to implement it through session variables in this case.
    We have two variables MIN and MAX to be used as Presentation Variables,for a column of the report (which is a quantity),so that the user wants to see the data for this column within a particular range.i.e the Min and the Max.This part has been implemented well . The issue is when the user wants to see the full data.In that case we will not pass any values to these two Presentation Variable or in other words we are not restricting the report data so we are not passing any value to the variables,this is when the report is throwing the error. we want to leave this variables blank in that case.but this is giving error.
    Please suggest how can I overcome this issue.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Praveen

    i think you have to use guided navigation for this. create two reports first is the one you are having currently and second is the one in which remove the presentation variable from the column formula. i.e. the same report with no aggregation applied.
    Now create a dummy report and make it return value only when the presentation variable value is not equal to max or min. guide the report to navigate between the first and second report based on the result of the dummy report.

  • Report in new page does not know of session and presentation variables

    I have a question about GOURL.
    I am using GOURL as a column function in one report (report A), so that when i click on that column it takes me to another report(report B) that open in new popup window.
    the first report (A) also uses some session and presentation variables, which is also used by Report B as filters. I am curious that if I add these filters which are using variables to report B, why can't report B get the value of these, (it just errors out ) because it didn't found any value to those variables in the filter.
    Becuase I am ending up with passing all these variables in GOURL and setting them as 'isprompted'.
    Does this report (B) knows nothing else than what it finds in GOURL?
    thanks

    In a nutshell, if u use gourl then its parameters will be only using in navigated report. This is functionality

  • Date Prompts Issue using Calender and Presentation Variables

    Hi All,
    This is what the requirement is...
    I need to create a two prompts (from_date and to_date) on a date column so that I can filter the data using a between condition. This is how I am doing
    I have created two prompts (edited the formula) and passing the values to two presentation variables var_from and var_to. And in the report I am limiting the request on the using between operartor for both the presentation variable. Everything is working fine but the issue is that I need to display var_from and var_to in my report also.
    I am referencing both the variables as '@{var_from}' and '@{var_to}' but I am getting both the columns as blank. I am really not sure why I am getting blank values for both these columns only when I am able to filter my report successfully on the basis of date values in the prompts ...
    Just to metion ..in my database I have values in the format m/d/yyyy only. Hence I am able to use the calender successfully
    Any help on this would be much appreciated...
    Thanks
    -Ronny

    Ronny,
    Are you seeing blanks in answers ? Id expect this, but on the dashboard, when you set the filters , you should see the values coming through?
    You can extend the syntax of the pres variable and provide a default value, so when working in answers you can see what it looks like,
    something like @{var_from}{'01-Jan-2010'}
    Also you can reference the variables in the title, subtitle or narrative views if you wish.

    What is the syntax error? If you make people have to guess or to examine intensely what you wrote, many will pass on your question, which I don't doubt people did.
    Rather than dive into your syntax, read this blog entry by Venkat which perfectly describes how to build and use date prompts with BETWEEN, including the syntax of wrapping your date prompts with single quotes.

  • Presentation variable in column formula issue

    Hi,
    I'm having an issue about putting a presentation variable in a column formula. I'm using obiee 11.1.1.7.141014
    I'm adding a text in a formula column where I use two presentation variables: pPeriodo and pAno
    pPeriodo invoques the month selected in a prompt and pAno the year. I have to compare different years, so in one member I use @{pAno} when is the selected year and @{pAno-1} when is the prior year.
    The result of this (please see the header of the 2nd column):
    The problem is when Icompare to next years. So my issue happens when I do an addition to the presentation variable: @{pAno+1}
    It doesn't do the sum; it concatenates the value as you can see in the following images
    If anyone have a workaround about this, please share.
    Regards,
    Miguel

    Hi Joven
    Try @{pAno}+1 instead of @{pAno+1}

  • Presentation variable(Date) in German Format

    Hi,
    I like to know whether it is possible to use date(prompt) in German format.
    e.g., We need to filter out the date(06.01.2009) which is given in Dashboard prompt as a Presentation variable.
    The date which we have given in prompt should be accessed by reports to perform some calculations and return back the calculation values.
    As we have tried the presentation variable(date) in US Format,it is working fine.
    Regards,
    Sakthi

    Hi kishore,
    I am not clear with the above mentioned forum link.
    We are using presentation variable for dynamic calculations inside the report.
    Suppose if we are giving date for dynamic calculation,as far as we are using this format (01.Jan.09) and convert the above format in required as used for calculations.
    The problem comes when german date format(01.Dez.2008) is given in prompt,it will throw an error.
    Because both German and US will have January & Januar Jan(First 3 letters as same) but when it comes for some months like December(Dezember(German)),we cannot convert into required format.
    Is there any solution for the above issue.

  • Using 2 presentation variables in a filter for date

    I do have 2 presentation variables @MONTH and @YEAR. In my analysis I do have a Timestamp column EfDate.
    I am trying to filter EfDate, using the SQL Expression option and cast(('01/'||'@{MONTH}'||'/'||'@{YEAR}'||' 00:00:00) as timestamp).
    Tried also with cast(('@{YEAR}/'||'@{MONTH}'||'/'||'01'.... and with '-' instead of '/'.
    No success... either a message for invalid month, or invalid character, etc.
    Pls. anyone could give me a hint ?
    Txs.
    Antonio

    Hi Srini,
    Txs. for your help... but I guess I do have some difficult understanding this MIN function... (tried the doc but still is kind of strange).
    OTH on your last post I believe you mean: Time."Year" = '@{Y1}' and ... Right ? and not Time."Month" = '@{Y1}' and ...
    My filter would be something like: Effdate < '01' / @{MONTH} / @{YEAR} (keeping out the cast and etc.).
    I still cannot see how to use the format you´ve suggested in my filter above. Sorry.. but maybe you could help me ?
    txs a lot in advance.

  • Presentation Variable value to Drill report OBIEE 11g

    Hi ,
    We have a requirement to use Parent report prompt value in the drill report. So we have used presentation variable to pass the value.
    Issue is when we go to drill report its not showing actual presentation variable value, its giving some other value( eg: we have two values to be passed to presentation variable 'Yes' and 'No' , even though we have selected 'Yes' in the prompt the drill report is showing results for 'No' but when we refresh the drill report its showing exactly as prompt selection.)
    And we are using Advanced Sql filter to filter the records .
    In 10g it has worked fine but in 11g we are having the issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Fyi.. We are using action links for drill down.

  • OBIEE 11g:  Use presentation variable in Column Heading

    Hi everyone,
    I was playing around with sample app dashboards and I saw a dashboard prompt that they converted into a column selector. I liked it and reproduced it in my own sandbox.
    I like the results, however, I would also like to change the column heading to clearly reflect which measure was selected. It's pretty clear when you are looking in the dashboard, but once you export the data, it can be confusing which measure was selected.
    That is why I would like to use a presentation variable in the column heading section. I tried to do this but it interpreted it as a literal instead of evaluating the statement.
    Is there anyway to get a variable in the column heading?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    We have followed the below link to use the date between prompt and passed the presentation variables in the filter condition of the report criteria.

    Yes,I think it wont pass the parameters from one parent report to child report.one thing you can do is put the detailed report on a page in the same dashboard as that of prompt.Put the same between condition on that report also.Give navigation link to this page instead of report.You can hide this page as well so that it will be available only on navigation.
    i have not tried it.Give it a try.

  • How to set MULTIPLE repository variables using presentation variables

    Hi,
    I need to pass multiple values from presentation variable to repository.
    A brief about report design :
    I have two repository variables - from_dt and to_dt which are defaulted to some values from a database table and are editable by the user.
    I display these default date values on the dashboard. Plus there are two dashboard date prompts allowing user to enter a date range different from what is displayed by the from_dt and to_dt. The dates entered by user are assigned to presentation variables pv_from_dt and pv_to_dt.
    If user specifies a different date range then these date values are to be passed to a stored procedure which is called from the Connection Pool --> Connection Script Tab --> Execute before query. This procedure will do some calculations and populate a global temporary table before running the report.
    Problem :
    Now in the presentation server, in the Advanced tab, in the Prefix section, when i try to write something like this:
    SET VARIABLE from_dt = '@{pv_from_dt}';
    SET VARIABLE to_dt = '@{pv_to_dt}';
    I get the foll error :-

    SET VARIABLE from_dt = '@{pv_from_dt}' SET VARIABLE to_dt = '@{pv_to_dt}'; -- gave same error
    How do we assign values to multiple reporsitory variables... ???
    Thanks
    Nusrat

    Hi,
    I wrongly referred to the variables as "repository" variables. Both variables are Session variables. For testing i added a column field in the report with source as the session variable - VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.from_dt). In the Prefix section i assigned a literal value - SET VARIABLE from_dt='01-JAN-2012';
    When report is run, the literal value gets displayed.
    The idea to update a session variable, from dashboard using presentation variable, i got from the following URL.
    Go to http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/category/obi-ee-plus/page/11/
    and see the section "Oracle BI EE 10.1.3.3/2 – Updating Session Variables from Dashboards using Presentation Variables"

  • Hide entire column based on presentation variable?

    Has anyone ever tried to do this? If user selects all records from prompt i want to display analysts assigned to those records. If user selects specific analyst i don't want to display analyst column. I know i can null out or show analyst based on presentation variable but what about hide entire column?
    If this is not possible has anyone tried to use conditional formatting to hide entire column?

    Try this:
    0) Create a dashboard prompt on "analysts" and check the "All Choices" checkbox. Set the prompt to a presentation variable.
    1) Create a small report with two columns, one column will be your analyst column, the other will be a column which houses MAX(RCOUNT(1)) in the Edit Column formula window (what you get when you press the fx button). Put another filter on the analyst column set to the presentation variable with one of the analysts as the default.
    2) Put a filter on the the MAX(RCOUNT(1)) column "greater than 1"
    3) Create two copies of your actual report, one which has the analyst column, one without.
    4) Now in your dashboard you will need three sections, one for your prompt, one for the "with column" report and one for the "without column" report.
    5) In the Section Properties of the "with column" report, click on "Guided Navigation" and navigate to the small report you created in step one. Set this section to display "if request returns rows." Don't forget the filter on this report set to the presentation variable.
    6) In the Section Properties of the "without column" report, click on "Guided Navigation" and navigate to the small report you created in step one. Set this section to display "if request returns nothing." This report will not need a filter on the analyst prompt, because by definition it will display all analysts.
    Now when "all choices" is selected on the prompt, the second report displays in the dashboard, and when a single analyst is selected, then the first report will display with the analyst column.
