CRVS2010 Beta - Report viewer design mode problems

When editing an aspx page that hosts a CrystalReportViewer and CrystalReportSource control, the viewer appears momentarily, then disappears (return to the 'Loading ...') display.
This process cycles indefinitely (without crashing). I cannot close the aspx page as it appears the foreground thread is blocked.
If I attach a debugger to VS, and break on CLR exceptions, I get a few that appear related to monitoring folders.
Any suggestions?

Can you run [Process Monitor|http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx], see what it tells you?

CRVS2010 Beta - Report Viewer Errors for Crystal Reports in VS 2010

I have a project that was written in VS 2008 targeting the 3.5 framework which contains a ton of Crystal Reports. I recieved my new license for VS 2010 and did the install along with the Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. I converted my project over successfully. I am able to open up the reports on their own. When I try to save them they want to be converted to the new format. This also works fine. My problem is the Crystal Reports Viewer. I am not able to add any reports to the viewer without receiving error messages. I have tried using the 10.5 and the latest version of the viewer, but receive errors everytime that I try to add a report to it. I always recevie the following error:
"Error invoking 'Choose a Crystal Report...'. Details: Invalid Report Source"
I have also tried just creating a brand new report from the Crystal Report Viewer Tasks window. When I do that I get this error:
"Unable to find the report in the manifest resources. Please buld the project, and try again." "Error invoking 'Create a New Crystal Report...'. Details: Unable to find the report in the mnifest resources. Please build the project, and try again."
I have tried changed the framework target to 4.0, but this has not helped. I have tried using the 14.0 versions of the references and the 10.5 versions. I have searched all over the internet for a resolution, but can't seem to find one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem. You say make sure all of my assemblies are version 14. Three questions:
1. Now that I have removed all of the old Crystal assemblies from my project, what are the assemblies that I need to add back?
2. My VS 2010 "add references" popup shows me many crystal assembles (Crystal XI is also installed) which ones to I need to install now?
3. If I don't know what they are, or where to find them, how do I determine their version?
You solution reminds me of the old saying "If I had ham, I could make ham and eggs. If I had eggs!"

SWC Load Error - Design Mode Problem

Hi,
I'm loading custom .swcs into my Flash Builder (4.5 Burrito) project and I get these errors. These will only appear in design mode (not in source mode) and will not be labelled under the Problems tab, rather the Design Mode Problems tab:
SWC Load Error
SWC file failed to load. Any component dependent on this SWC file will not be displayed in the Design Mode.
The SWC may have failed to load because of:
* Incompatible definitions caused by usage of a different SDK version
* Missing referred class definitions
I don't think this problem is caused by an SDK incompatibility, as all these swcs have been created under flex 4 and I'm pretty sure under the 4.5 SDK.
Loading the components contained in these swcs onto my canvas (at design time) will work fine. I'm able to build and run the application without any errors caught by flash builder.
Any idea how to fix this problem, or what it means?

SWC Load error indicates that the swc used does not match with the definitions present in design view or with what is present in already loaded other lirbaries. The issue is reported by the flash loader. It looks like that, your swc is compiled with a previous version of the sdk and the design view and the related definition correpsonds to another version.
The incompatability logic is not in DV. When DV tries to load all the swc details available in the project, the loading fails as the loader reports the issue. There is hardly anything, we can do here from DV. If the player reports the incompatability issue, the loader is corrupted and all further loading is ignored. So to avoid such issue, DV ignores the failed swc's and tries to proceed.
If you pass me the swc , I can give the details of the incompatability. Ideally between 4.5 and 4.5.1 there should not have been any incompatability. However your case shows there is. You can contact me at [email protected]

More design mode problems

I've been down this road before but now it's getting just crazy. I can't get work done if I want to create a simple layout. I've created new workspaces, cleaned, everything I can think of including taking out any third-party components that might possibly be compiled in non 4.5.1 (though they supposedly have).
I try to create a simple MXML component. If it's based on anything visual (e.g., panel) or if I start with a group and then drag in a panel, I just get the little computer icon with red x on it in design mode with the following errors in the Design Mode Problem panel. I mean, this is just a new, empty component.
Assets failed to compile.
Design Mode is unable to display the document styles, skins, and images because the following assets have failed to compile:Details
:Unable to resolve resource bundle "components".( - Line:-1)
Unable to resolve resource bundle "skins".( - Line:-1)
Unable to resolve resource bundle "core".( - Line:-1)
Unable to resolve resource bundle "core".( - Line:-1)

I thought I had it by deleting a namespace reference; things started to render and all was good for a couple minutes. Then it reverted to the same problem so I'm open to other suggestions.

Viewing Design Mode in CS3

Hi,
I have just designed a website for a client. We agreed that
she would be able to take all the files once completed so she could
edit in her own Dreamweaver CS3. I personally - for my sins - am
still using a very old version of Dreamweaver. I do this because
it's just what i'm used to and feel comfortable with right now.
The problem is that i have developed the site using php
includes (for header, footer, navigation). Now, my client says she
cannot view the site properly in Design Mode to edit the text, etc.
So, i re-jig the site to include template files to make it easy to
view the text to edit. However, she says she needs to be able to
view the whole page (ie with headers, footers, navigation and
editable text) as it would be viewed in real-time.
Is it possible to do this in CS3?

Of course, but perhaps not by your client.
Personally, I would NEVER do what you have.
To see PHP includes, the client would need to have both
includes, and temp
files enabled in the PREFERENCES, and they would need to have
the site
defined as a PHP site, and ideally, they would need to have a
webserver and
PHP installed.

Crystal Report Viewer and border problems

Hello there, I've created an report and I've added borders for the fields in the report (Right click on the field > Format Object -> Border -> Choose for the 4 margins the line-style single). The report is correctly exported to different formats (.doc, .pdf, .xls). My problem is that when I display the report in an ASP.NET 2.0 page using an Crystal Report Viewer the report is correctly shown but the borders don't appear.My question is why the borders don't appear in the Crystal Report Viewer? I have the exact opposite problem as yours.
I am using integrated crystal reports with Visual Studio 2005 and I have put a Crystal Viewer on a web page.
First I also had the same problem like yours and then in one of the post i found a solution for this. Hope it will work for you too. here it is :-

Did you add the swing library to the list of libraries used by the project? (double click on the .jpr file in the upper navigator window, click on the library tab)
Is swing 1.1.1 there? If you, add it via the Add button.

VS2013 Express Report Viewer - Design a New Report

I just installed VS2013 Express and added ReportViewer to the .NET Framework Components. I then added a ReportViewer to a Form in a new project, added a SQL Server 2008 Object using the object explorer, followed by adding a DataSet of one of my SQL
Server 2008 Database Tables. All good so far as I was following Mario Scopel's youtube video on "Creating Reports in C# - Part 1 of 2".
The next step was to Design a New Report using the ReportViewer's Task arrow and clicking "Design a New Report" but it does nothing!!! What is wrong with this software? Am I missing something regarding the RDL schema? What do I need
to do to create a new report to this local database?

CRVS2010 Beta - Report with many tables

Hi,
I was developing my application first with a test Database with few tables. Now that I am changing to the actual database (with about 200 tables) I noticed that the ReportDocument takes a really long time to load when I tried to access the DataDefinition for the first time.
Is there one way to avoid this?? The tables are all there because I need to have the option the select the table that I wanna use in the application, but after this I just use the table chosen and the linked tables in the Report.

OK where to start...
First the act of adding 200 tables, and I assume none of them are linked is the first problem you are going to have. CR is a relational database reporting tool. Not linking tables generates multiple SELECT statements.
If you only need one or two then use RAS to add the tables and then the fields, Bascially you are creating the report designer for your users. All of the user interface needs to be created by you.
There may be one option that could help but what you are doing is likely never going to be fast....
Open regedit32.exe and go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\Crystal Reports Designer Component\DatabaseOptions
In there you'll find a key called - DoAutoSmartLinking
Set the value to No
What that key does is when a report is open CR tries to link all tables and all fields.

CRVS2010 Beta - Reports with JDBC or JavaBean datasource

There is a reason why you can not find crdb_jdbc.dll C:\Program Files\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86...
1) No previous versions of CR that bundled with .NET (CR 10.2, CR 10.5) included crdb_jdbc.dll
2) CRVS2010 is essentially an equivalent to a bundle (more below)
3) You can not simply copy version 12 dll and hope it will work with another version of CR - this will certainly not work and I am actually surprised that the dll even loads... additionally, I suspect this may be breaking licensing agreements.
I will ask Program Management what their view is on the driver with respect to CRVS2010 and post their reply here. But at this time, I suspect the answer will not be particularly positive...

Thanks for that. I was fairly sure it was never going to work (especially with the version differences), but just wanted to get the question asked.
I'll go back to my CR2008 environment and try to get it working on there - hopefully I'll have more luck.
At some point we will want to upgrade to VS2010 and, if that means we need to convert all the reports to ODBC/ADO .NET datasources, it's likely to be later rather than sooner!
Any more info you discover on this would be gratefully received.

CRVS2010 Beta - WPF Viewer, how to hide the GroupTree control?

All,
I would like to turn off the display of the GroupTree for my reports using some property or function call?
I would also like to hide the text "Main Report" displayed in the status bar. This is for the WPF viewer, not the WinForms viewer.

For those who are using the WinForms viewer you can use the following code to hide/show the grouptree control.   Add this property to the class that is hosting the viewer.

CRVS2010 Beta - WPF Viewer and ReportSource

I have been using the ReportSource from the viewer pre 2010 of visual studio. Now that i upgraded and using the new crystal reports the ReportSource doesnt seem to be included with the WPF Viewer. How do i bind my ReportDocument to the viewer. I'm stuck cause their arent allot of examples out their and not sure what to do.

Problem with vertical text in crystal report viewer

Hi,
I am displaying vertical text in crystal report designer and deploying the report in crystal reports server 2008. The deployed report is being displayed using JAVA in crystal report viewer control.
Problem: Vertical text header is getting collapsed wth other vertical headers.
Please help on this.

Hi Vijay,
I found out another method of retaining all the chart formatting that is done in the preview pane.
Once you have done all the changes then you will find interestingly there is a chart menu option that appears in the tool bar. Once you click on it there is an option "Apply Changes to All Charts".
Select that option, close your preview. Open it once again and you will find that all the settings are still there and the Web Viewer is able to display them properly.
I think that I resolved this.

Design mode locale problems with 4.5.1

I tried this in the Flex forum but no answers. I'll try here. I've been working on a project for a year that has worked fine. I upgraded to 4.5.1 and now can no longer edit several of my components that were localized. I solely get a red X and a design error that says "Assets failed to compile. Design Mode is unable to display the document styles, skins, and images because the following assets have failed to compile:Details :unable to open 'locale/en_US'(command line - Line:-1)"
I've a folder with locale/en_US and it actually localizes fine if I run the app, but I can not longer edit in design mode which, as you might guess, really puts a damper on moving objects by pixels.
Any suggestions?

I don't have a solution, but i think i pinned the circumstance down to being generated when:
You have a localised project
You also embed a generic (non-localised) asset
In the case I used to file a bug report, including/removing an <s:Image> tag causes/removes the problem:
