Replacing a word in Dictionary

I have a problem when incorrectly typing the as "teh" which I am very prone to to do.
When I try to correct it, in Apple's Mail (v 6.5 1508), by right clicking (mountain lion) it tells me that the word "teh" exists when right clicking on it, I get the choice to Look Up "Teh" and gives this dictionary explanation for it.
"Teh" is an Internet slang neologism most frequently used as an English article, based on a common typographical error of "the". Teh has subsequently developed grammatical usages distinct from the. It is not common in spoken or written English outside technical or leetspeak circles, but when spoken, it is pronounced /tɛ/ or /tə/.
When I type in TextEdit (v 1.8), the word "teh" is automatically changed to "the" as I have it in the text substitutions in the system preferences.
In Apple's Pages (09 v4.3) when typing "teh", it is underlined in red and right clicking gives me the choice of correcting it.
How can I remove the reference to teh in the dictionary for Apple's Mail?

The definitions dictionary has nothing to do with spell check. You can't edit the New Oxford Dictionary dictionary, and it wouldn't have any effect on spell check even if you could. (In fact, the "definition" of teh that you are seeing is from Wikipedia, not from a dictionary at all.)
It sounds like spell check might not be working in Mail. Is it turned on in Mail?

In the Find window (Ctrl+F) there's an option to replace the searched text.
This is in Acrobat XI, and there's no Replace All-function.

  • REGEXP_REPLACE - replace several words

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to replace several words at once using regexp_replace?
I would like to do something like
    update...
    set field = regexp_replace(str, 'val1|val2|val3', '1|2|3');val1 would be replace with 1
val2 would be replace with 2
val3 would be replace with 3
    Is this possible or not?
    Thanks,

You can do it with a nested replace:
    -- Data:
    with t  as
select 'abcval1def' str from dual union all
select 'xxxval2def' str from dual union all
      select 'xxxval3def' str from dual
    -- Select
    select replace(replace(replace(str,
                                       'val1','1'),
                                       'val2','2'),
                                       'val3','3')
    from t;

  • How To: Find and replace multiple words in one Click ?

I have an file with about 150 Pages where I want to replace a word about 500 time by one click.
Find and Replace works but only with one word.
How can I do it by one click ?

You can't, not in Acrobat anyway.
This is the kind of thing that should be done in the original file format,
    not in a PDF.

  • Do I have to Replace Every Word doc with a New Pages doc?

Everytime I open an old Word document (I now use Pages exclusively) in Pages, I have to re-save the document as a Pages document. The old Word file stays on my computer, as I'm creating something new, a Pages document. I now am left with two files: the old Word file, and the new Pages file. Is there some sort of "batch" operation, a way to convert ALL my word files on my HD into Pages files?
Or (more realistically) is there a way to have Pages automatically REPLACE the Word file with the new Pages file, so that I'm left with 1 new file, not 1 old and 1 new.
    Thanks a lot,
    Lee

The difference between the two files is that one's extension is .doc and the other's is .pages. So, for the Pages document to replace the Word document, it's name would need to be "Testdoc.doc" instead of "Testdoc.pages" as it would normally save. This may cause problems in the future since .doc isn't a Pages document, so that wouldn't be something you'd want to do for documents you intend to keep.
It seems that Automator would be a good choice for this, but I don't know enough about Automator to be able to say if it can be done or how to do it.

  • Replace complete words by another string

    Hi,
I'm searching for a possibility to replace complete words inside a string.
For example I want to replace "quick" by "slow":
"The <b>quick</b> brown fox is running quicker then the slow brown fox".
    The result shall be:
"The <b>slow</b> brown fox is running quicker then the slow brown fox".
The problem is, that the built in "Replace"-Method would also replace "quicker" by "browner".
    Furthermore, words beetween different signs (e.g. , . ; : - ! " ? ') shall also be found as complete word.
I already searched for a FM but didn't find anything. Regular expressesions are also not possible because we are running on 6.40.
Maybe anybody can help me with a simple FM or something else.
    Best regards,
    Stefan

    Hi Stefan,
There is a crude way of doing this....with lots of loops..
You can use the SPLIT statement
    SPLIT dobj AT sep INTO
          { {result1 result2 ...} | {TABLE result_tab} }
          [IN {CHARACTER|BYTE} MODE].
and break the sentence into words using space as delimiter. Once you have all the words in a internal table, you can loop through it and compare each word with the word you want.
This will solve the problem, but will not be performant enough.
    Regards,
    Vinodh

  • Since I am writing the book in Italian, how can I replace the word CHAPTER with CAPITOLO ?

Since I am writing the book in Italian, how can I replace the word CHAPTER with CAPITOLO ?

I think you need to run iBA in Italian so the templates are in that language.  You can do that by switching your OS X to Italian and then reopening iBA or perhaps by using this app to just change the iBA language:

  • Bookmark words in dictionary

Why is such an option not provided?? Any work around that will enable me to bookmarks certain words in dictionary so that I can go through them easily later on..

    Sounds reasonable.
Something strange happened: I renamend my DE file, wrote a name that was unknown to Spell and chose Learn Spelling. As expected, a new DE file was created. I deleted the new DE file, quit and relaunched Pages — and Pages still knows the spelling! I searched my HD for other places whre AppleSpell could safe the information but found nothing.
Regarding opening the custom spelling files: I got best results with (Aqua)Emacs. Emacs displays the delimiter (^@) between the words which appear to be lined up in Textedit.

  • Removing a word from Dictionary

    Hi,
can anyone suggest how I can remove a word from the UK Dictionary.
There appears to be a word in the User Dictionary that isn't coming up when spell checked but cannot be seen in Added, Removed or Ignored words in the UK dictionary! What should I do in order to get this word spell checked again, please?
This issue appears in new, and existing Indesign documents.
    InDesign CS4 (Mac) v.6.0.4

Dictionaries are stored in .clam format in ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Linguistics/Dictionaries/Adobe Custom Dictionary.
There's a 3-letter designation for the language and then files like added.clam and exception.txt. These are in Proximity Dictionary format.
    I would start by exporting your current user dictionary to a file, with Edit -> Spelling -> Dictonary... and then Export...;
check the file and see if it contains oolong (or a variant). If so, remove it, and then Import... with the Replace Dictionary checkbox.
If that doesn't work, make a backup copy of your user dictionary (at the above path), and then delete that file. Check and make sure you're OK. Then try importing the user dictionary wors you care about.
If you're still sunk, well, you could reinstall InDesign...

  • Can I have pages automatically replace specific words with the same word in a different font as I type?

In MS Word I was able to set it up so any time I typed the name of the organization I run, Camp Aldersgate, it would automatically change the font to our branded font from our logo.  The font appears in the font list, and I can select it and use it.  How do I do the same thing in Pages?

You can create a character style with the specific font. Custom styles are only document specific so save a documnet as a tempalte containing this style. Use this template when you need this style.
When you have written you document use Find and replace > Advanced > write the word to find and write it again in the replace field but change the Style button option to the new specific style > press replace
