Crystal report and SQL 2000  Integration to BW?

HI All,
We have following two requirements to be implemented
1) We need crystal reports to be integrated with BW system. Please guide about the prerequisites as well as the procedure to be followed so as to generate Crystal reports once the plugins are in place.
2) We need SQL 200 server to be interfaced with our BW system.Pleas do let me know apart from DB2 connect is there any other method that can be implemented and aslo If we use DB2 how should we go about handeling Delata.

Hi
1, once you setup the SAP Plugins you can connect to the BW system and view the tables and objects such as Query etc.
then you build the report (Crystal Rep) using this data source.
My experiance is that the performance is quite bad, so good luck to you.
2, we use a data base level access in our BW.
it means that the user has access rights on the DB level and then we can
access the db using MS Query Analyzer.

  • Crystal Reports and SQL Server 2000

    Hi all,
I read the document "Troubleshooting Database Connectivity for Crystal Reports" and tried all SQL Server jdbc drivers (1.2, 2.0,2.0.1, 3) and I could not find  a working driver with crystal reports at all.
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d05b3bb7-0f28-2c10-4ea3-84dbdc4e414e?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true
I'm also not sure if there is a working one?
Are there anybody who suggest me a jdbc driver for SQL server which also supports Crystal Reports?
The connection is ok, but the problem is I don't see tables and other staff under the connection...According to the document above, this means the driver does not support crystal reports...
Product versions which involve this issue as follows:
    SQL Server 2000
    JRE 5.0
Crystal Reports 11.8 (Comes with IBM RAD 7.5 IDE)
Platform : IBM Portal 6.1.0.2 ( IBM Websphere App. Server 6.1)
Any help would deeply be appreciated.
I'm totaly exhausted. I hope someone help me...
    Best regards,
    E.

I gave up this issue since I learnt that Crystal Java Reporting Component does not support portlet.  I also tried with SQL 2008 and I also updated my IDE for updating Crystal plug-in in it.  It was finally working at portal but the pager buttons and other staff in the viewer were not working since it  still does not support portlet.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Creating OLAP report with Crystal Reports and SQL Server Analysis Services 2005

    Post Author: orahc_mao
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
    Hi!
I am currently using the trial version of the Crystal Reports XI and I wanted to do an OLAP report. The problem is I cannot select a cube using "OLAP Connection Browser" (the popup window). I already selected Microsoft OLE DB Provider and entered the server name but still can't connect.
I don't think the problem is with SQL Server Analysis Services (2005) since Microsoft Excel - Import Data can detect the server as well as the cube I have created.
I also tried the "Database Expert" of Crystal Reports, created an OLE DB (ADO) connection with "OLE DB Provider for OLAP Services 8.0" driver, entered the server name, checked the integrated security and then I can readily select the database created at SQL Server Analysis Services. However, I still need the OLAP grid create the report but it goes back to my original problem... selecting a cube.
I hope somebody would help me with this issue.
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello,
I don't recognize those variables as CR ones so it's likely something the original developer is setting in code.
You'll have to discuss with that person.
If your have SDK issues then post your question to one of the .NET or Java SDK forums.
    Thank you

  • Crystal Reports and SQL Azure

I'm trying to print a report created by Crystal Reports, which the application is run on the client run, NOT run on Windows Azure, and I grant the client IP to allow it to connect to the SQL Azure to retrieve data for the report.
However, it throw an exception when the client application process the report file, I try to host the database locally and trace the sql it executed in profiler, then run each sql command on the SQL Azure to find out which line of sql command cause the
    problem.
Finally, I find out that Crystal Report will call "sp_procedures_rowset" and "sp_columns_rowset", which are not existed on SQL Azure.
Any workarounds to solve this issue?

    Hi Barry,
Yes, "sp_procedures_rowset" and "sp_columns_rowset" are not existed on SQL Azure. You
    can check with below statement:
    EXEC
    sp_helptext
    'sp_procedures_rowset'
I’m afraid you cannot use it in your report. Could you create your own Stored
    Procedure?

  • How to create crystal reports using MSDE 2000?

    Post Author: S_Muhilan
    CA Forum: Deployment
    Hi,
I am using Crystal report 8.5. My Database sqlserver 2000. I generated reports and are working fine.
Now I want to use MSDE 2000 instead of Sqlserver 2000 due to license factor.
My application is developed in VB 6. The all the parts of the application is working fine except the report.
All reports produced Database DLL error.
So I opened the report and try to verify the database. But it gives pdssql.dll not found. Database error.
After this error, I tried to create a new report and found that there is no option for MSDE 2000 database selection under more database.
I usually select Sql server 2000 database under More Database option of location wizard.
How to create crystal reports using MSDE 2000?
Is it due to crystal report 8.5 verison problem? I also have crystal report 11 licensed copy.
Please give me the good solution as early as possible
    RegardsS. Muhilan

To use the inproc RAS SDK with CR.NET, you'd have to purchase either (1) Crystal Reports XI Release 2 Developer edition, and apply Service Pack 2 or above, or (2) Crystal Reports 2008 (not Crystal Reports Basic that comes with Visual Studio 2008).

    Ted Ueda

  • Performance Issue Crystal Report and Oracle

    Hello,
We have one procedure that takes 3 input parameters and returns Cursor from Procedure that is used to design the report. There is no caluculation involved here and cursor is opended dynamically. We are using Oracle Native connection.
When we click on preview button it takes lots of time ( >10 Mins) to show complete data. While we call the same procedure in application and generate HTML report using Cursor returned it is done in < 15 Seconds. Can some point me where to look into to improve the performance of Crystal Report.
    DB: Oracle 10G
    CR: Version XI

    Hi Vadiraja
The performance of a report is related to:
    External factors:
    1. The amount of time the database server takes to process the SQL query.
( Crystal Reports send the SQL query to the database, the database process it, and returns the data set to Crystal Reports. )
    2. Network traffics.
    3. Local computer processor speed.
( When Crystal Reports receives the data set, it generates a temp file to further filter the data when necessary, as well as to group, sort, process formulas, ... )
    4. The number of record returned
( If a sql query returns a large number of records, it will take longer to format and display than if was returning a smaller data set.)
    Report design:
    1. Where is the Record Selection evaluated.
Ensure your Record Selection Formula can be translated in SQL, so the data can be filter down on the server, otherwise the filtering will be done in a temp file on the local machine which will be much slower.
They have many functions that cannot be translated in SQL because they may not have a standard SQL for it.
For example, control structure like IF THEN ELSE cannot be translated into SQL. It will always be evaluated in Crystal Reports. But if you use an IF THEN ELSE on a parameter, it will convert the result of the condition to SQL, but as soon as uses database fileds in the conditions it will not be translated in SQL.
    2. How many subreports the report contains and in section section they are located.
Minimise the number of subreports used, or avoid using subreports if possible because
subreports are reports within a report, and if you have a subreport in a details section, and the report returns 100 records, the subreport will be evaluated 100 times, so it will query the database 100 times. It is often the biggest factor why a report takes a long time to preview.
    3. How many records will be returned to the report.
Large number of records will slow down the preview of the reports.
Ensure you only returns the necessary data on the report, by creating a Record Selection Formula, or basing your report off a Stored Procedure, or a Command Object that only returns the desired data set.
    4. Do you use the special field "Page N of M", or "TotalPageCount"
When the special field "Page N of M" or "TotalPageCount" is used on a report, it will have to generate each page of the report before it displays the first page, therfore it will take more time to display the first page of the report.
If you want to improve the speed of a report, remove the special field "Page N of M" or "Total Page Count" or formula that uses the function "TotalPageCount". If those aren't use when you view a report it only format the page requested.
It won't format the whole report.
    5. Link tables on indexed fields whenever possible.
    6. Remove unused tables, unused formulas, unused running totals from the report.
    7. Suppress unnecessary sections.
    8. For summaries, use conditional formulas instead of running totals when possible.
    9. Whenever possible, limit records through selection, not suppression.
    10. Use SQL expressions to convert fields to be used in record selection instead of using formula functions.
For example, if you need to concatenate 2 fields together, instead of doing it in a formula, you can create a SQL Expression Field. It will concatenate the fields on the database server, instead of doing in Crystal Reports. SQL Expression Fields are added to the SELECT clause of the SQL Query send to the database.
    11. Using one command as the datasource can be faster if you returns only the desired data set.
It can be faster if the SQL query written only return the desired data.
    12. Perform grouping on server
This is only relevant if you only need to return the summary to your report but not the details. It will be faster as less data will be returned to the reports.

    Any Idea ?
    Thank you for your help

  • Getting Data from SAP ECC & BI to Crystal Reports and then Broadcasting.

    Hi,
I need to get the data from SAP ECC & BI to Crystal reports and then after formating data in Crystal reports, my requierment is to send via email (Broadcasting). Is there any option to  Broadcast from Crystal reports?
I read Ingo Hilgefort blogs, but I need in detail steps such as to verify Integration Kit is installed or not and also how to create connections in between SAP ECC and Crystal. What are the Security setups(User IDs and Authorizations) involved?
What is best option for email/broadcasting for Crystal Reports?
    Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks.
    SVK.

    Hi,
I would suggest you then start with the installation and user guide fr the SAP Integration Kit.

  • Crystal Reports and MII 11.5

Are there any documents out there on the pros and cons of integrating Crystal Reports with MII?  Can it be done.  If so, how can my company do this?

    Hi,
The Software Crystal Report is a software for creating reports very good and the MII is a software for creating reports and integrate your manufacturing and more ...
Is possible integrate the two system, but I'm not view very advantages, because if you have installed MII in your company is much simpler to create the reports within the SAP MII.
That depends on your business if uses the reports to Crystal Reports and want to keep this software integrates the software, if your company wants more intelligence use SAP MII I think much better.
I not view documents in SDN about Crystal Reports and SAP MII.
See also on Xcelsius other tool very good.
    Hope this helps...

  • Crystal Reports and SAP BW 7

    Hi,
I have been reading these posts and got bit confused.
What do I need to integrate Crystal Reports and SAP BW 7 without BOE. My company has SAP NW license and Crystal Reports Enterprise license and plan to use CR for formatted reporting. Do I still need integration kit into SAP BW in order to create crystal reports on BEx queries and save into BW and view through the SAP NW Portal?
Or am I fine without integration kit?
    many thanks

Based on the below Ingo's blog in BI expert we would only need the following:
You must install Crystal Reports Designer on the client
You must install the client components for the BusinessObjects Integration Kit for SAP Solutions
You must install an SAP front end with the SAP NetWeaver BI 7.X Add-On and the SAP BW 3.5 Add-On components on the client when using the connectivity on top of SAP NetWeaver BI
Users need to have the necessary authorizations in the SAP system. For SAP NetWeaver BI, this means that users require the authorizations to view and execute BI queries. There are additional authorizations for SAP ERP access in authorizations class ZSSI that are specific to the connectivity that BusinessObjects provides.
You must release the BI queries that you want to use with Crystal Reports for external access. You can set this property in the BI Query Designer.
    So, no mention of BOE.
