CS3 action: refuses to save to listed directory

I've got a few simple actions built that pop up the save window dialog and should automatically point to the listed directory. However, the dialog insists on pointing to whatever directory was saved to last.
e.g.
Save
  As: TIFF
  Byte Order: IBM PC
In: c:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\to_send\[recorded file name -- which overridden by dialog prompt]
  With Copy
  Wthout Layers
Running this, will bring up the save dialog, but it's pointing to whatever folder PSD last saved something in.
Any ideas on how to get around this?

Thx.

  • 'Save as' in CS3 action doesn't change to target directory

I just re-built my PC with Vista x64 and re-installed PS CS3 from scratch upgrading to 10.0.1 from the auto update. I need this for LR2 to integrate.
Since the re-build (I was on XP x64 previously) one of my actions which includes a 'Save As', which saves the image to a specified directory and as a JPG (not the directory the image opens from), is unexpectedly displaying the 'save as' dialog, waiting for manual input. This opens on the source image directory, suggesting it's ignored the suggested destination path, and it suggests the PSD file type rather than JPG as suggested in the action. It seems to be looking for input simply because it thinks I'm trying to overwrite the original image file.
Anyone else seeing issues like this running under Vista x64?
    Thanks, Paul A

Figured this out! My images were in 16bit and weren't converting to 8 bit before the Save As action was hit, hence the dialog!
    All working fine now.
    Cheers, Paul

  • Photoshop CS3 actions won't save

I'm learning to create actions in PS.
Unfortunately, when I've created an action on my desktop computer, the action lasts for the session only and is not there when I restart PS. I've done this several times, and the result is always the same. The actions remain for the session and work fine, but disappear after a restart.
This doesn't happen on my backup copy on a laptop, but I do my PS work on a desktop and it's a problem.
    Thanks for any help.

Your problem may be due to improperly loading the actions. Did you double click the file to load it into Photoshop?
If so, this tutorial on how to load a photoshop action set will help you.

  • Photoshop CS3 Actions Batch mode bug?

I posted this in the Mac forum but received no responses after a couple of days, so I am trying it here.
Photoshop CS3 Actions seem to have a bug such that when used in Automate > Batch mode it will use the name of the first file opened in the batch session for every file processed in that session. Since that name is used in Save step, this means having to deal with the "File Already Exist" dialog for every file in the batch because it is attempting to save at the designated location with the same file name. If the continue option is chosen each time, the final result is one file with the first opened file name, but with the contents of the last processed file.
To confirm that this is a problem particular to the opening step, I have disabled all processing steps as well as the saving step by toggling them in the Actions panel. I then ran the action in batch mode on a folder containing 4 files. This resulted in 4 opened files all with the same name but different image content.
This was with the "Override 'Open' Action Commands" checked/not checked, and the "Suppress File Open Options Dialogs"  checked/not checked. The  problem described also occurs when using a Droplet.
By comparison, Photoshop CS exhibits the expected behavior: when an action is used in batch mode to process an entire folder of files, the name of each file is retained after opening and used after processing in the save or export step.
The above described behavior of CS3 is a change acquired along the way to the CS3 version (I do not have the CS2 version to test). But more importantly, can someone please report if the CS4 version behaves as I described for CS3, or if it has been returned to the CS behavior?

    Is this a known bug?

    Hello Miguel,
I was going to come back to post some of my findings, one of which relates to your staement:
"- The open command created by Photoshop 6 doesn't keep the file's name, it is a much simple open command, and so it opens the file with the own file's name."
In my case I found that my CS version of the "same" action worked, while the  CS3 version failed, precisely because the earlier one records less detail for the open step.
My need is to convert dozens of Quark pdf files to GIF and JPEG files for the web. What I found after several days of testing is that it is best to record the opening step in CS3 NOT using a pdf file, so that the "Open As Generic Pdf with 'Name____' " would not be coded into the opening step. Instead I recorded the whole action using a PSD file. Then I can proceed to run it in Batch mode choosing a folder of Quark pdf files as the source location with "Override 'Open' Action Commands" checked, and the "Suppress File Open Options Dialogs"  checked, and it opens all the pdf files just fine in some background process, not getting stuck in the details of the file name, and proceeds to cary out the flattening, saving, and closing steps to my chosen target location and uses the finder file name of each pdf files in the source folder to save a filename.ext in the Target folder.
Contrary to what I stated in my original post, "Override 'Open' Action Commands" checked/not checked does indeed make a difference. If it is not checked, the files do open in batch mode, but the other steps are not performed. There is much more about this that I would like to know, and this may not be a general solution for all types of files that a user may wish to process in batch mode, but it works for my case. The main trick is to use as simple an opening step as possible when recording the action, and then letting Photoshop use whatever background process it requires to open a particular file type. I tested this by manually saving a pdf file to each of the twenty some odd formats available in the save as dialog to a Source folder, and then proceeded to batch process that folder with the action described above, and it worked for all except one.
So while there may not be a bug involved in this problem, there certainly is a lack of documentation about how the "improvements" in the opening step in newer versions of Photoshop affect using Actions in Batch mode.
Please comment if you can further explain any of the reported results. In particular, what is the situation in CS4?
    Thanks,
    Al

  • Pass Values to Edit Form thru Query String and Save in List

    I have developed a custom Edit form from SharePoint Designer and I am passing values thru Query String as below;
    http://<>/cli/acc/Lists/GIInfo/testEdit.aspx?ID=262&com=POD_Send
And, user supposed to save the form directly without changing the values came thru Query String as below.
Now, issue is, when user saves the form, values is not getting saved. It saves when we change the value in text box or when we do a text change event in form. Becasue data binding says Text Change even in data binding property.
    __designer:bind="{ddwrt:DataBind('u',concat('ff22',$Pos),'Text','TextChanged','ID',ddwrt:EscapeDelims(string(@ID)),'@Actions')}"/>
Kindly guide me what is the issue, or correct approach to do that? I want to pass values to Edit Form thru Query string and save in List without changing those.

The issue was resolved by changing the textbox values,

why does pages suddenly refuse to save a document back to our server after editing?
and can i specify a default save-as location?

The default save location is the one used to open the document.
The default save_to location is the last used one.
Both are stored in memory and written in the application's preferences file when we close it.
It's quite easy to change the defaults in the preferences file but we must do that before opening the app and if we use an other location once the app is open, we will lost the defined default location.
From my point of view, the best scheme is to use an Applescript to save.

    Re: CS3 actions to CS5
Then I was probably wrong in assuming one could use that File that easily.
Actually this was a good call to use Actions Palette.psp. Renaming it to .atn is where you went astray..
One more possibility would be to (after making a copy of it for safety) replace the CS5 Actions Palette.psp with the one from CS3 – no
    guarantees here either, though.
According to Adobe's Chris Cox, who occasionally comments in this form, the method you suggested will in fact work.

  • Illustrator CS3 can't print/save as PDF

I installed CS3 and the error message:
"The Save as PDF and Save PDF as PostScript options in the Printer Dialog are not supported"
Does this mean that its not picking up on the Adobe Acrobat/Distiller 8?
How would I activate this? Help!!
Same thing with InDesign CS3, can't print/save as PDF.
    (this is on a mac)

It may be looking for your RIP ppd, as well as Acrobat 8. Acrobat should have installed all the necessary files, but you might take a look into that. I don't think Distiller is part of the Save-As procedure. You might take a look into "Add-A-Printer" OSX option and select Acrobat 8 there ( although it should have loaded during the install ). Another option is re-install your printer's software and any RIP software ( if available ). Before you do, get whatever updates you can from the manufacturer. It could also mean, after you've done the previous suggestions, you correct permissions on your HD using Apple's Disk Utility. Leave the machine ON overnight so that the Apple Utilities can clean house while you're sleeping.

  • How to send a text message to a group of people and save the list for next time?

how to send a text message to a group of people and save the list for next time from an iphone 4s?

    Hey there ipremacha,
It sounds like you need to enable Text Message Forwarding on your iPhone for your iPad to send MMS/SMS messages through your phone.
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity
Go to Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and enable the device(s) you would like to forward messages to.
Your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch will display a code. Enter this code on your iPhone to verify the SMS feature.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Convert  Script output into PDF and save into Unix Directory

    Hi,
I had Sales Order Acknowledgement Output and wants to converted to PDFs and then these PDFs to be placed in Unix Directory
on their way to Docs Library.
I am using the following code
      CALL FUNCTION 'CLOSE_FORM'
        IMPORTING
          RESULT   = itcpp
        TABLES
          otfdata  = lt_otf  " OTF Data
        EXCEPTIONS
          unopened = 1
          OTHERS   = 2.
After this form ,  table ltf_otf is empty, So i am not converting into PDF .
So i need the logic to convert to PDF , and most importantly logic to save into UNIX Directory.
    Thanks

    Hi,
If you are using the Function Module "OPEN_FORM" to open the form for printing then in this function module there is an IMPORTING parameter OPTIONS which is of type ITCPO to this parameter "OPTIONS-TDGETOTF" needs to be passed as 'X' which will give you the OTF output in the FM "CLOSE_FORM".
After this call the FM "CONVERT_OTF" and pass the FORMAT as "PDF" which will give you the PDF output in LINES table Parameter. Most important please pass some dummy variable to BIN_FILESIZE variable.
Now by using OPEN DATASET file name FOR OUTPUT IN BINARY MODE and the LOOP the PDF table and use the TRANSFER statement to place the data in the UNIX File and then Finally use the CLOSE DATASET file name.
Hope will help to address your issue.

  • Why the "Actions" does not save the Overprint Black

    Hi!
    Ai CC 17.0.0
Why the "Actions" does not save the Overprint Black?
I can not create an action that will automate this time a very common activity?
    Why?
    Best Regards!

I was just able to. I am in Illustrator 6 on a Mac OS 10.6. I started a new action and went through the menu just like your screen shot, chose my options and clicked ok, then stopped recording the action.
I found to use the action I had to have something selected.
I see that you are in Illustrator CC, perhaps there is a difference there. But for the record, on my system, it worked.

  • TextEdit refusing to save files

Since Safari has no "save as text" option, I've been cutting and pasting text into TextEdit. However, if the copied text contains even a single character not in ISO Latin 1, which is what all my software works in, it refuses to save the file until I paw through the text looking at every single character to find the one that's not ISO and delete it.
Is there a hidden option somewhere in TextEdit to allow characters not in the character set to be ignored on save? (A warning is fine, but not "go to ****".)
If there isn't, I'd appreciate advice on a different equivalent text editor that does what I ask it to do.

If this is the case would a text editor like TextWrangler be acceptable?  When you do a a "save as" operation in that editor it gives you the option to save the file in different encoding.  For example,
