CS3 missing memory

Hello I just loaded my CS3 onto a Windows7 laptop and when I go into performance to set how much memory for it to use it is showing just shy of 3 GBs. The computer has 8GBs of memory. The old Vista computer showed relatively the same memory and it had 4GBs. Anyone know why this is?  Thanx!

Photoshop CS3 is a 32 bit application only.  With a 32 bit address space it can only practically see 3 GB of system RAM.  You need a 64 bit version of Photoshop (i.e., CS4 or newer) to take advantage of your entire memory space.

  • CS3 missing components or How to use Flex 2 components in CS3

Does anyone have a good resource for how to use Flex2
    components in CS3?
I found an install that said it would install Flex2
components in CS3, but all it added waas the UIMovieClip for
packaging Flash MC in swc's for Flex.
Right now I am specifically trying to solve the missing
    dateField component in CS3.
But I would like to find out if anyone has found a good
resource for alternatives to all missing components in CS3.
I'm hoping the answer is not to build them from scratch.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Pleas find details at the URL below.

  • CS3 Missing KBSCE area for this panel's Windows menu submenu

Missing KBSCE area for this panel's Windows menu submenu. Does anybody recognize this assert message? I have found posts from other people with the exact same problem, like this one for example: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1303048#1303048 , but no solutions to it.  We have the exact same problem, our menus are listed under the Windows Menu Product area in the Keyboard shortcuts editor and they do not have the “ourPrefix :”. I assume there is something wrong with the resource declarations but we are unable to locate a sdk sample or anything in the documentation about this.

First, you need to realize that resetting preferences will put them back to ground zero, not the way they were the last time you were happy.
You can try the key combination again and see if you are any faster (we're talking near instantaneous) or you can open your user profile, show hidden files and folders and navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 4.0 and rename the two files InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData.
In your case, a better first option, I think, would be to try System Restore which you'll find in System Tools under the Programs > Accessories heading on the start menu. Go back to the first restore point before you tried to open the file, if you can.
In any case, for you to open a CS3 .inx file you will need to be fully patched the the last CS2 update, and you should expect to see some text reflow issues, as well as missing any CS3 features that the author used which aren't supported in CS2.

  • Text tool in Photoshop CS3 missing default resource files.

when I try to use the text tool in my Photoshop CS3 I always get a message that says that I am missing the default resource files for the tool.  How do I solve this..? And if possible, where can I get said files..?

Can you reinstall the application from your original media?
Keep in mind that if you do so you'll need to apply any updates to the CS3 product from Adobe's site again as well.

  • Premiere Pro CS3-CONSTANT Memory issues when editing/rendering/exporting

Alright, as said in the title I am currently using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, and my issues are horrendous
No matter what, within 10 minutes of editing, Premiere will warn and then crash because of memory issues, starting with the message:
"Adobe Premiere Pro is running very low on system memory; please save your project and proceed with caution"
Also, whenever I try to export this project, within 800 frames of a 7000 frame project (currently), it displays the message:
"Error Compiling Movie", and then the previous message above if that hasn't already happened before
And eventually, the program will crash out of nowhere, with random windows errors
    Here's my specs:
    Intel i7 920 Processor
    6 GB DDR3 RAM
    Nvidia 480 GTX
    750 watt power supply
    24" Dell Ultrasharp Monitor
Now, I've noticed that whenever Premiere is getting close to crashing, my RAM gets up to around 4.7 GB being used, and then it crashes.
I have already gone into Edit-Preferences and tried switching from Performance to Memory; that hasn't fixed anything
I noticed that when I was just running my video over and over again, it stayed stable at 4 GB or so, so maybe its a rendering issue?
I have already tried lowering my number of processes running at any given time, including my antivirus program (Kaspersky) and even explorer, but it still crashes no matter what.
    ========================================================================================== ========
This is a SERIOUS issue for me, as even with all the normal crashes I could finish the video; but now I cannot even export my video at ALL without it crashing, and I have a plenty strong-enough computer to handle this, so what gives?
    Please help

Ok, well this has been getting me nowhere
I tried importing (both my CTRL-X method, and literally importing the project), and now the program won't even RENDER the footage, it just errors out at 800 frames (just like exporting)
    What is going on???
I used to use Premiere Pro 2.0 all the time, on a separate computer, but I have 6 GB of RAM, is this really impossible???
    EDIT:
And now, even after finally getting it to render (by saving after rendering before what crashed, and then starting it up and rendering again), all my footage looks like crap XP

  • Mysterious missing memory

I've just noticed about 8GB of memory appears to be missing from my Mac Mini... It has a 74.41GB capacity, but when I add up all the content of the folders in the Macintosh HD and the available memory, I only get to 66.8GB. What could be taking the rest of it up? I've only got about 5GB of available memory left and I often download large files (films from iTunes etc), so could this mean I need to think about defragging the hard drive? What would happen if I tried repairing the disc?

Hi Shofu, and a warm welcome to the forums!
OK, we're actually talking about Free Disk space, which can be used as Virtual Memory, but Memory is actually the RAM you have in your Mini.
    OmniDiskSweeper is now free...
    http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnidisksweeper/download/
That'll show you your files & sizes.
If you download Movies I'd consider getting an external Firewire drive to put them on, your Mini will run safer & faster if you can free up 20-30 GB.
There are many hidden files & Folders that won't show up. like Logs, etc..
At this point I think you should also get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

  • IPhone.... well ALL APPLE PRODUCTS... missing memory (8GB iPhone)

have you ever had a iPod, and noticed it had less memory than you payed for?? go to "about" on any apple product wiith storage, and i gaurentee that it has less than it claims. my 4G nano has 3.6 GB, my 8GB iphone has 7.3 GB (if you have a MAC mini than i gaurentee there is at least 2GB missing. tell me, why does apple do this?? for the operating system? it shouldnt be that way if iPhone takes .7 GB to function then they should really make a 8.7GB model and hide the .7GB ..........

    nick0HHHlass,
There is two things at work here. One, is the difference between 1000, and 1024, carried out to several factors, as well as space needed for the software for the computer or the iPhone. This article discusses it, as well as my own explanation below:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30065
So first off, an 8GB iPhone has flash storage memory with at 8,000,000,000 bytes. When the drive is labeled, that is rounded off to 8GB because when labeled they use 1000 bytes per kilobyte, and 1000 kilobytes per megabyte, and 1000 megabytes for gigabyte. However, when a computer looks at a device it looks at it by powers of 2. This applies to any storage drive whether its intended for a Mac, PC, server, iPod, etc.
A computer divides the 8,000,000,000 bytes by 1024 to get kilobytes, then by 1024 to get megabytes, and then by 1024 to get gigabytes. So that it is reported at around 7.5 GB. Then from that there is space used for the software to run your iPhone. This is the same with any computer. Look at the hard drive properties (Windows-based PC) or Get Info (Mac). Disk utility gives more information than get info. For example the iMac I am using has a drive with 160,041,885,696 Bytes, but after formatting it is reported as 148.9 GB (159,907,630,080 Bytes). This article contains the same information in regards to iPod drives:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60955
Second, more is space is lost for the data needed "format" or organize the drive. The space used for the formatting becomes less efficient as the drive gets larger, so its not a set percentage. This article discusses efficiency in formatting as drive sizes get bigger:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=8647
Additional space is used for the iPhone's own software. This is the same with any computer.
Other things that may take up additional space, pre-installed software beyond the OS on a computer typically ranges between 5-25 GB currently. In addition some Windows-based PCs may have additional space in a hidden "restore" partition used for reinstalling software.
    Hope this helps to explain,
    Nathan C.

  • Font that showed in ID CS3 missing in ID and AI CS5

I just opened a file I probably last worked on in ID CS 3. It uses a little-used common domain (maybe?) font called Classic Typewriter.
The file opens and displays fine in CS 3; but, the Regular weight is missing in CS 5. ClassicTypewriter is displayed as the font name, but Regular is surrounded by brackets in the style; i.e., [Regular] . I believe that means ID cannot find the font.
What gives? Why is it okay in CS 3 but not CS 5?
Just checked, same is true for AI, as well. I further checked the font with Apple's Font Book Validation. There is a message about an error with "name" usability. So, I guess my only question now is why Adobe changed things so that a font that worked in CS3 no longer works in CS5 whether or not the font is totally okay. (The font also seems to work fine in TextEdit.)

Yes! That worked for me, too! Sure was hard downloading the font, though. It unstuffed with Stuffit Expander 8, but not Stuffit Expander 11. Go figure!
Thank you! (But, I sure do like the kerning in the Elsner + Flake headline version, at least for headlines. It's really nice! (Funny thing about the E+F version, though...I bought two weights in the same font family, but they do not appear grouped as a family; each font is displayed as distinct font families in the ID font menu. But, I guess that is a bit off topic.))
    Thank you!

  • Flash CS3 - Missing Fonts Alert Dialog box not showing

We seem to have lost the Alert dialog box when Flash CS3 Pro
discovers there are missing fonts in a file. We still get the
warning in the Output box but we get no Alert box to tells us
actually which fonts we need to locate. This is happening
regardless of file so it appears to be Flash issue and not a file
    issue.
Anyone come across this before and anyone know how to fix?

You need to make sure that the specific camera model is supported by the version of the ACR plug-in you have installed on your machine.
The current version of ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) is ACR 4.5 and there is also ACR 4.6beta.
What version are you running and what camera generated your raw files?

  • Missing Memory in CS5?

    Hi to all!
On my Mac Pro I had CS4 and since two days aside also Photoshop CS5 installed.
Since I like to use my Nik plug-ins I changed the Bit mode of CS5 to 32 Bit. After I removed the Selective Tool of those Plug-ins it seems everything was working fine.
Later on I had a problem with the Trash in the Finder (all was deleting immediately), but I was able to solve that issue also.
But now to my real question:   I have a 2009 Mac Pro model with 4x2 GB Ram memory. In the Photoshop CS5 Preferences in Performance I can read:
                            Available RAM  2100 MB
                            Ideal Range  1155 - 1512
    I set it to          1577  MB  (75%)
In Photoshop CS4  I can read the following:
                           Available RAM  3072 MB
                           Ideal Range  1689 - 2211 MB
    I set it to         2319  MB  (75%)
How come that both different versions of Photoshop seems to recognize different amount of RAM?
(As far I can remember yesterday I saw in the CS5 preferences a much higher value of available RAM written)
Since I have 8 GB RAM installed, why this is not recognized?
Does this has any impact on the real performance? Does this has anything to do because I switched from 64 BIT to 32 BIT operating?
Thanks for any guidance, I'm puzzled and curious
    Michael

    Thanks a lot, Chris!
At least I know now that everything seems to be working fine.
So when I like to use CS5 including using the Nik Plugins I have to accept the available RAM below 2 GB.
Is this normally enough RAM, or should I seriously consider to buy more RAM?
(I'm using no 3D features, just moderate photo editing, but with large 16 Bit files)
So in order to have at least the double of available RAM, I would have to upgrade my Mac Pro to 16 GB, right?
    (Quiet costly? Any recommendations?)

  • Problem with Indesign CS3 missing save as dialog box

I am having problems saving documents with Indesign CS3. I have upgraded it to the latest version, repaired permissions, shut down a restarted to no avail. This is Indesign CS3 running on a Macbook under Leopard 10.5.2. You can select save and it appears to save a file. However, if you select "save as", the dialog box to select a location never comes up. Nothing seems to happen. I can't figure it out, and it happens to any file. I have created test files and the same thing happens.
    Help!!!

Trash preferences before re-installing. Also, try this weird procedure: open the equivalent dialog in one of the other Suite products on the same computer (assuming they're there). That's been known to solve the problem on Windows machines.

  • Adobe CS3 missing PDF printer?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to Leopard (via an erase and install) and loaded a student package of CS3 to my Powerbook G4. Everything seems to work great, except that I'm now unable to print to PDF from any Adobe program (particularly InDesign and Illustrator). I'm still able to export to PDF, but I'm not able to go to print, select Adobe PDF as my printer, and save as PDF from there as I could in CS2. The only printer that shows up in the print dialog is the PostScript, and the "Page Setup" and "Printers" buttons are grayed out. In non-Adobe programs (like MS Word), I am still able to save to PDF.
Any ideas? I realize this is more of an Adobe question than a Mac question, but I couldn't make much sense of the Adobe website, and people here are always helpful.
    Thanks!
    Adam

Have you tried launching Acrobat and going to Help > Repair Acrobat Installation? This should install the Adobe PDF 8.0 Printer. Please note that this PDF Printer still works with PPC Macs, but not with Intel versions until Adobe produce the update, which is scheduled for later this month (January 2008).

  • CS3 misses .xmp files from PSE4

I have used PS Elements 4 on Windows for a couple of years. Most of my photos are in RAW (from a Rebel XT). I have it set to save RAW adjustments in .xmp sidecar files. When I look in the directory with Windows Explorer, the sidecar files do, in fact, exist.
I just bought & installed PS CS3. I intend to continue to use PSE4 organizer because I have a lot of collections, tags, etc. I have configured PSE4 to use PS CS3 as its external editor. CS3 is configured to use .xmp files.
When I open a RAW file in CS3 via the PSE4 organizer, the file opens, but the adjustments are not used--it's as if I never adjusted the image.
If I open the file from CS3 Bridge, or directly with PS CS3, it works right. If I adjust a file in CS3, then save it, and re-open it from PSE4 organizer, it works right.
How do I get it to work right when I open a previously adjusted RAW file from PSE4 organizer?

Thank you for taking the time to respond Mr. Castaneda.
Using Bridge in this context, while obviously an effective work-around, only serves as an unnecessary resource hog.
The simple issue is this: What used to take half a second in keyboard taps now requires either the use of an additional program (Bridge) or several additional steps in Finder.
I can't help but to suspect that there is some way to configure my system to behave in the desired manner.
I do use Bridge regularly, but when all I want to do is process hundreds of RAW files in the largest batches possible, I don't see the need to waste resources on it. And it does slow things down noticeably.
I like to use Bridge for sorting, renaming, editing, labeling, etc. But to use it just to open up files seems a little inefficient.
Maybe I'm picking at nits here, but I'm just baffled that this system behaves differently than the one I used a few days ago (same OS, programs, and updates).
    Many thanks!
    Best regards,
    Michael

  • CS3 Photoshop Memory Leak?

I have just gone from an 8MP to a 21MP camera and now my image files are large. When opened in Photoshop they run about 110 - 120MB. After processing 3 or 4 files having used multiple layers, in Windows XP task manager, I see Photoshop memory climbing to well over 1GB. Closing any other opened image files and purging history appears to have no effect. Eventually I start being denied certain PS functions (like creating a Black & White adjustment layer, for example) and can get error messages due to PS running out of memory. The only way out is to close PS and re-start it. I can't do large HDR or Pano processing using any more than about three image files at all.
I am running Windows XP with 3GB Ram, lots of hard disk space. Windows virtual memory is set to "System Managed" and currently has about 10GB allocated. PS is set up with scratch disk on seperate drive (plenty of space). I currently have PS set for using up to 1400MB of memory (out of the 1600MB available to the process), 50 history states, and 2 Cache Levels. Iv'e tried setting the slider all the way up to 1600MB and it just takes a little longer but I eventually hit the wall anyway.
I've considered setting the /3GB switch in boot.ini but am reluctant to try that. Besides, I'd probably need to upgrade to 4GB from the 3GB ram I currently have?
I keep thinking it has to be a configuration problem but I haven't been able to find it. Any suggestions will be most welcome.

Have you tried setting the memory allocated to Photoshop to 55% or less? You are probably starving other processes running outside Photoshop.
Reduce the memory states to no more than 20.
Is your scratch disk a fast internal one? Most external drives are too slow. You keep saying "plenty of space" but bear in mind that the scratch files will need about 10x the original file size and this soon mounts up to a lot of gigs.
With that computer you are hitting the limits for working with files of that size.
