CS4 or FLEX Builder for AIR Application?

Hello,
I have installed CS4 and Flex builder 3. I would like to develop some desktop applications, which is the best editor to develop AIR application?
Thank you

I faced a similar choice recently: Flash or Flex for developing CS4 panels.
John Nack advised me to use Flex Builder. He was right. For a desktop AIR application or something like CS4 panels, the Flex Builder IDE is more powerful and helpful. If you're a developer familiar with other programming tool IDEs, like Microsoft Visual Studio, various Java IDEs, etc. then you will find the Flx Builder IDE to be more intuitive.
Flash is a good choice for developing animated SWF panels that are driving things like Flash movies. If you use Flash, you'll have to deal with the Timeline. With Flex Builder, you don't.
They both provide access to Action Script. But they expose functionality differently. Also, Flex Builder provides some data visualization tools, etc. that are not part of Flash.

  • What is the use of Digital Signature in export release build for AIR applications

    hi Freinds..
what is the use of digital signature identity  when we release build?

Well obviously it is an Ant build.
It looks to just compile/build a web application into a war so you can deploy it where you want to.
You don't need to edit it every time you are making a new page. It should work for any generic struts web application laid out in the fashion it expects.

  • Creating a project in Flex Builder for the Hybrid Store sample Application

    Hi all,
How to create a project in Flexbuilder for the hybrid store
    sample application.
I downloaded the source code of hybridstore application,
Now i have to create a project for it to run that application
    in my system,
will you please tell me how to create a project for this
    sample.
I have also read the readme.html file. but i could not follow
    exactly what they are saying.
what i did is, I unzipped the source code into a folder
    hybridstore.
    I opened the flexbuilder : File -- new -- flexproject ( i
have selected) then i have given name to my file (hybridstore) ,
and set the path to the hybridstore folder where the source code
    exists.
but it as created hybridstore.mxml file also.
    it is not working.
will you please till me how to create project for this

    Hi,
    thanks for your reply,
I have tried to open using file import, but still it is not
    working.
in the readme file for this application , contains how to

    Name your default application catalog.mxml.
Prevent Flex Builder from generating an HTML wrapper: select
Project > Properties. Select the Flex Compiler page, deselect
the Generate HTML wrapper file option .
Create a Run configuration for your project but deselect the

To enable debugging of the Hybrid Store application you must

Find the line that says "src", "catalog" and change it to "src",

As i am new to flex , i could not know how to do this.

  • I seek a java forms builder for desktop applications

can any body help me find a forms builder for desktop applications using Swing?
i know Oracle Forms developer, but i think it is restricted to JSP projects only .. isn't it?

Any IDE with a GUI builder will do. Not that I actually advice to create GUIs (I guess this is what you mean by form) with tools... but if you want to, that's the way. The editor of JBuilder is said to be quite good.

  • Design Flex with Fireworks CS4 or Flex Builder?

I need help in making a process decision on how to build Flex
    Apps going forward.
In the past, we have built the concept for our Flex app in
Photoshop and sent it over to our development team in India to
build. The process has been difficult because our engineers are not
designers and our designers are not engineers. Invariably we spend
alot of time bridging the gap between whats possible and what we
want to see in our Apps.
I want to bring our Design and Dev much closer together and
essentially take the GUI out of the hands of my Indian Developers
who choose to work in raw XML rather than Builder today.
To accomplish this goal, I will be training my US Design team
to become either Fireworks Experts or Flex Builder Experts....
(they are already Photoshop experts) This is where I need your
help. If you were starting from scratch with a talented design team
that could learn either tool, which one would you choose to
accomplish the goal? Does the Fireworks to Flex export create
crappy code like Dreamweaver thats tough to modify manually? Does a
"true" Flex developer despise Fireworks-generated code?
I have read up on the Fireworks>Flash Catalyst>Flex
Builder Path and dont understand the additional step... is Catalyst
part of Fireworks and thats how Flex code is developed or is it a
new code generation engine that does code better than Fireworks
    CS4?
    Thanks in advance.

    Here's my recommendation:
I would suggest Fireworks for your Design team/ Flexbuilder
    for your dev team.
Essentially, what Fireworks already has in terms of Flex UI
components (though a short list) is identical in theme (default
halo) AND output (mxml code) as you would expect from creating in
    Flexbuilder alone.
You can then easily extend your designs with custom
components using the Fw Commands Export Flex Skins and they can be
imported to your Flex project using the CSS Designer.
As for Catalyst, this is a separate beast altogether. It's
merely meant to bridge designs (from design applications Ps, Ill,
Fw) and create usable components for complete animations.
A full tutorial/ video overview was just released a few days
    ago here
    http://blog.digitalbackcountry.com/2009/01/getting-started-with-flash-catalyst-tutorial/
As for how Fw fits into the Catalyst scheme of things,
designs you create can be exported to the FXG format that Catalyst
will use, if you want to use Flex and work with this format you
have to have the latest Flex SDK plugged into FlexBuilder 3 or Flex
4 will have full support for it.
Here is an older referebce to this scenerio (reference to
Thermo = Flash Catalyst and Gumbo = Flex 4)

  • Flex Builder for Linux will need his companion Thermo

I’ve been developing in Flex for a long time now. My
main work is in the design area although I do a lot of coding. The
Flex Builder Linux testing is being quite difficult, since the
layout design view is not enabled yet. So we need a lot of
imagination and a little bit of experience in AS3 and MXML tag
    codding.
As a designer (and developer  ) I would like to ask
for a Thermo for Linux. It’s just a request, but I think
there are a lot of guys that share my opinion.
    Thanks,

    Hi, thanks for your answer.
It turned out the problem was related to the *standalone* flashplayer.
This is located in linux in:
    FLEX_BUILDER_INSTALL_PREFIX/Player/linux
when I was clicking on the "Run" button Flex Builder was looking for a flashplayer standalone app, and was failing to find it.
What I had to do was to add the complete the flashplayer path to the PATH used by eclipse.
Now clicking on "Run" it compiles the application and launches the standalone player with the generated swf file.
Now I wonder if there is some way to select the flashplayer to launch, and if it is possible to configure eclipse to make it launch a  browser or a custom script rather than execute that swf with the standalone player.
    Thanks, regards.

  • How do I build an air application from swf?

I have a simple SWF that I have built in FlashPro 5.5
    published for AIR 2.6 player
It has multi-touch functionality designed for a kiosk installation on MacMini with a magic trackpad
when I publish/test (F12) it from SDK, the trackpad functions perfectly
    BUT
when I launch SWF in a stand alone player (or build a executable projector), the mutitouch functionality disappears
WHAT AM I DOING SO VERY WRONG?

I have inadvertantly deleted the icon to open Adobe Dreamweaver
Where? From the Dock or the Applicaitons folder?
The Dock icons are "aliases" or "shortcuts" to the original files  or programs, in this case in your Applications folder.
Just drag the Adobe Dreamweaver icon out of the Applications folder and position it on the Dock in the old location, it will make another "alias" and the original returns to the Application folder.
If it's gone from your Applicaiotns folder, look in your Trash can and put it back in the Applicaitons folder
If not there then open the DMG by double clicking on it and double clicking on the installer file to reinstall it.
You'll have to update the program and likely enter your serial again.

  • Can't Export Release Build for AIR app...

Flash Builder 4.7 won't let me export a release build for any AIR apps at all...
It started when I wanted to make some changes to an old AIR app.  Couldn't even run it in the debugger, so I updated the AIR SDK (using instructions found here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-builder/kb/overlay-air-sdk-flash-builder.html   and here: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/how-overlay-air-sdk-flex-sdk.html )
So after doing all that, and making some other changes, I finally got my AIR app to run in the debugger in Flash Builder 4.7.  Made the changes I wanted to make, then tried to Export Release Build...  Kept giving me a "Password Incorrect for this certificate" error whenever I tried it -- but it would never let me enter a password.  I went to Project | Export Release Build, and on the first screen there, I would click "Next" and it would jump straight to compiling, skipping over the screen where you're supposed to be able to enter the certificate info and password.
Figured maybe because it was an old AIR project, that was causing the problem.  So I started a brand new AIR project -- very simple one with just a <s:Label> inside a <s:WindowedApplication>.  Went to Project | Properties | Flash Builder Packaging and created a brand-new self-signed certificate (which seemed to work) but again upon trying to export the release build, it wouldn't let me get to the screen where you enter the password.  Clicking "Next" from the first screen on Project | Export Release Build just jumps straight to compiling and (of course) it gives me the Incorrect Password error, because it never gave me a chance to enter the password.
So what is going on here?  Why can I not export any release builds for any AIR projects?  This is extremely frustrating -- Flash Builder 4.6 never gave me these kinds of problems.  What can I do to fix Flash Builder 4.7 so it will work properly with AIR projects?
    Thanks,
    L.

    Hi,
I think something's wrong with either your FB 4.7 installation, or how you updated the AIR SDK. I just walked through the exact steps you listed (except I already had the AIR SDK overlayed) and I can build a desktop AIR app without issue. I get prompted for the password and everything.
I wish I had a better answer, but I'd suggest uninstalling and re-installing FB 4.7, be sure to remove preferences as well. Then before you update the AIR SDK, try building an AIR app with the base SDK that's included in 4.7. If you can get it to compile and prompt you for the password, then it's the way you overlayed the SDK that's messed something up.
Make sure you download the correct AIR SDK that's specific to Flex. On this download page: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/air-sdk-download.html is a reference in small print that says: Note : Flex users will need to download the original AIR SDK without the new compiler. Mac Windows. Make sure it's that version of the SDK (without the ASC 2.0 compiler). Then try overlaying the SDK again and see if that works.
I can definitely confirm that what you are experiencing isn't the norm, and that you can get the latest AIR SDK to work with FB 4.7
    Good luck!

  • Building HTML Air Application in Dreamweaver CC

I need some help ASAP.  We were recently switched over to Creative Cloud, and besides many issues we are having with CC that I won't go into here, one thing that is an immediate need is figuring out how to build and publish Air apps?  All fo the extensions that I have found and instructions I have read do nothing to get it working.  I can't even find an air extension from within the extension search/manager within the application itself.  Does anyone have the specific extension as well as directions for getting it running?  It was fine in CS5.X but no love now.  Please help!!

Yes, why! Why doesn't this post have a clear answer but more importantly why doesn't Adobe have a well-published answer to removing this functionality from products and their future vision/plans for Air?
To answer your question directly, you're missing what comes before that sentence... "Can I create Adobe AIR applications with Dreamweaver? Yes. Dreamweaver CS5 (and later) provides native support for building and packaging JavaScript/HTML applications on Adobe AIR for the desktop."
The sentence you refer to is specific to mobile. I'm interested in creating Air apps for desktop directly from DW. It's confusing and misleading (not to mention frustrating) trying to find answers and solutions. Simply saying that this isn't the correct forum isn't helpful. Is there an article that you can point to from here about Adobe's decision to remove Air support?

  • Content overflow, when building an Air Application. Does Catalyst provide any solution?

As artboard is in fixed size, but at 1 stage the content has to move down on navigating to different states, and I need to show all content, when I build an air file, the content is over flowing from the fixed artboard size. How I can restrict its content to not to be displayed from any direction and may open from other sides as I have few popups to show on the right of this application, and I need it as it is.
    Any Help?

Thanks for your swift reponse Peter but I tried these steps and am still unable to get my application to update.
I can't understand how I can get the application to update locally by specifying the location of the xml file in the SSL properties and not get the application to update when I enter the http address for the xml file in the SSL properties.
I have used the same folder throughout this process and I am baffled as to why it does not work.

  • Reuse a Flex App as AIR application

    Hi!
I've developed a Flex application and now I want to use it
again with the same codebase as an AIR application.
But there are several factors that don't work as expected.
The Flex App uses some advanced features that make reuse a
    little bit complicated:
I use the latest Cairngorm.swc in the app.
I use ResourceBundles in the app.
I often use "Application.application" in the app.
These are the three things, which make porting to AIR a
    little bit complicated.
Are there any "Best practices" for sharing the same codebase
    for Flex and AIR?
I've tried to make the Flex app a module and reuse that, but
then I get troubles with ResourceBundles, also the addressing
doesn't work correctly anymore (I've refactored the
    Application.application.<element> calls to say:
Application.application.app.<element> where "app" is the ID
of the ModuleLoader). But I get the error that
<ApplicationType> cannot be converted to ModuleLoader.
Then I've tried to make a SWC out of the App, didn't work
    either.
Has someone already done things like that?
What's the best way to accomplish that?
    Thanks a lot for replies!
    Bye,
    Fritz

    Hi.
    Based on Adobe's document
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/flex/articles/flex_air_codebase.html
which I haven't found earlier, I got the project working with all
my special things lik Cairngorm and ResourceBundle.
Currently I'm writing a tutorial how this works, I'll post it
for further use on monday :-)
    Bye,

  • Flex with php air application

    Hi ,
    I am new in flex.
Actually i make a flex with php desktop application. There are two problems which i am not getting:
a.) I make three module which i load on tab navigator click . These mudules working fine . But when i make this project export relese build to make .exe file . These modules not added in installation file.
i.e after installation i have to copy these modules .swf file in program files where the application installed. So i want to know is there is any method so that module added in the .exe file so that they by default goes at the
    time of installation of exe.
b.) I use php services in this project and when i insatlled the application to system its not working untill i add the the project service php file and zend frame work folder on user wamp . Is there any method that all these happen by default at the time of insatllation.

    Hi,
AIR is best suited to be a client application.
P.S: Since you are using PHP, you may want to take a look at
amfphp so that you can use AMF to speed up data transfer between
your AIR app and the PHP server.

  • Suggestions for Flex Builder for Linux

I'm new to Flex, and I have to say that I'm enjoying it quite
a lot. I think the thing that really helps speed up development is
good tools. Flex Builder 3 for Linux makes a good start at
providing a very nice development tool, but there are a couple of
things I'd like to see different with this tool.
First off, please give me an update site to use to install
Flex Builder. I use Red Hat Developer Studio (soon to be JBoss
Developer Studio, Eclipse 3.2 based), and I can't get FB 3 Alpha
for Linux to install into it. I have been successful with base
Eclipse Europa and FB 3, but I'd like to have my IDE tools in one
frame. An update site would let me add FB 3 into any Eclipse flavor
I choose, as long as it supported the appropriate components.
Next, Design mode for FB 3 is a must. I am very functional
with the content assist features in the source editor (and they are
_quite_ good, I must say), but design view really helps me preview
changes quickly and rapidly test out UI designs. Much faster than
writing and launching over and over.
Otherwise, great work, and please get out a new release
    soon!

  • Headless Installer for AIR Application on Linux/Unix Platforms

Is there a way to install Adobe AIR applications without invoking the GUI wizard that walks through the step-by-step process? I have an AIR application that needs to be remotely deployed on a device (that's running Linux) from a terminal session (sometimes using a scheduled job run by a script) . Its a trusted environment and deployments are all within a single enterprise. Is it possible to automate the process of accepting a self-signed certificate and specify installation path as arguments to a command line installer? I played around a bit with the installer script but it seems to invoke the standard interactive GUI every time and that wouldn't work for my case. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am not sure about Linux platform but I have experience running headless installation for Mac OS X .
    The command I execute is:
    Adobe\ AIR\ Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ AIR\ Installer -silent -location /Applications SPS.air
If you are distributing the Air Runtime to clients, there is a license agreement you need to complete with Adobe. More here:
