CS4 - Sending project to QT-Bad results

Hello All,
I upgraded from Premiere pro 1.5 to CS4 a few months ago and I’m finding it to very different. I rendered a short 3d animation clip with a custom frame size of 720x405 16:9 format and I would like to export this clip to a QT movie. When I did this in PP 1.5, I would use Sorenson 3 and set the bit rate to 1500 and the quality slider to 90%. The end product was a manageable file with nice quality. When I did the same thing in CS4, it looked terrible. I played around with the settings with the same result so I must be missing something. Could someone please shed some light on this problem?

I use CS3 so there may be some differences...
But why not try the quicktime format
codec h.264
same quality and bitrate, if de-interlacing output tab should have deinterlace checked...if progressive it should be unchecked
square pixels or whatever for what you are exporting....
set size to what you want
Makes a mov file ...

What color management settings? Color mode? This sounds like you are simply not using the proper profile.

The application to block scripts actually worsened the problem and I could not correct the situation for a while (no response from Firefox, at all). I have also been through this procedure without any one contacting me, AT ALL.

There does appear to be any support whatsoever from mighty "non caring" FIREFOX & people are getting fed up. We may as well try another system, if they can't be bothered to provide any support for their system, we can't be bothered to use their system.

Printing 2 pages per page - bad results

I need to ask you a question. I am trying to print a PDF document 2 pages per page and I get very bad results. When I choose the automatic "2 per page" in the Print box, and first print the odd pages (horizontal orientation) and then run them through again only printing the even pages (horizontal reverse orientation) - the pages don't line up! the printer makes "mirror" margings (I'm guessing) regardless of the setting (auto-rotate pages, landscape, portrait, etc). I've even tried to print using "custom" 2x1 pages per sheet (landscaped) - which gave marginally better results, but still the pages don't line up about 2 mm on each side. this has been recreated many many times AND IN DIFFERENT PDFs, so it isn't the paper's placement or the document.
I have a front-fed HP PSC 1210 printer. it served me well for nearly 7 years. I cannot belive it's gotten the best of me though.
my PC: DELL 2.4GHz core 2 duo, 2GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, 640GB HDD, radeon 4890 1GB video, vista 32 bit, 2ms monitor, etc., etc.
p.s. moreso, when I choose the default "automatic" 2 per page and check the "print page borders" box, the front page even sticks out of the borders put there by acrobat!

p.p.s. in print preview: composite it shows GRAYED OUT the margins of the page that the printer cannot print on. but when printing, Adobe seems to not take that into account! it seems to consider the page as the printable area screwing up the margins.

Have you tried setting it to 2 pages per sheet and then saving that setting as a preset? That should do it.

Why do the photos in my first InDesign project look really bad? Noticed as I "placed" them, some PDFs or JPEGs (not photos, but PDFs converted to JPEG) looked pretty distorted. Went ahead with the 60+ page project, converted to PDF, sent to client. He converted to a flipbook to proof and really didn't like the photos. Here's the irony. Upgraded to InDesign for this client. Was using Publisher as a standby until I could afford InDesign. Signed up with the Creative Cloud because job was overwhelming Publisher.
I started the job without a whole lot of knowledge (or patience for the tutorials) and figured I just wing it (and get InDesign for Dummies). Am thinking somethingw as screwed up in the initial setting up of the job. So how do I figure out if this is the issue and can I fix it without redoing all 60+ pages. If anybody has an answer, please let me know.

Ok, first image on your indesign page or any other program for that matter are still images, they are no longer pdf's, jpg's, psd's, etc. Once they load into a program, the file format is no longer relevant until you save again. Onl;y on your drive is the format relavent.
Second, if you can help it, never use jpg's until you are completely done and will be sharing a jpg. Jpg's are a lossy format are are not the best for preserving quality on your drive. Each time you open a jpg, and save a jpg more data is lost, as that is how that format compresses the data, by throwing it way for ever.
Third, the problem may not even be with you, it could happen when that person created a flipbook. That is an unknown varible, one which could make you look bad when it had nothing to do with you.
Fourth, Pay attention to the pixel dimentions of your images, the higher those values are the better the quality. Scaling can and probably will reduce that quality. If you can, it is better to hide parts of the image by cropping with a frame than it is to scale the image. you can scale, but pay attention to it.
I will stop there for now, as some of what I wrote is based on assumtions. That normally does not work out too well.

Sending email using UJ_CUSTOM_LOGIC BADI

I'm currently working on a BPC (BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation) project. BPC provides a UJ_CUSTOM_LOGIC BADI which can be used to extend the functionality of script logic. For example, each time a user saves data it calls a logic script. It is possible to call the BADI from this logic script.
I d'ont relally know ABAP but I need to determine if my need can be solved using ABAP: when the user saves data it calls the BADI. Is it possible to send an email from this BADI? HOw can I do it?

I created a simple BADI which rises described exeption event of class CX_UJ_STATIC_CHECK.
What can I say - after launching described code package status becomes "Failed".
But as for the transfer of my own error message text - it does not work.
I was trying to transmit to the class constructor my own structure instead of CX_UJ_STATIC_CHECK=>IF_T100_MESSAGE~DEFAULT_TEXTID, namely
DATA: l_mytext LIKE IF_T100_MESSAGE=>T100KEY.
l_mytext-msgid = 'UJ0_EXCEPTION'.
l_mytext-msgno = '000'.

SOAP Adapter Sender PI7.1: 400 Bad HTTP request

I have a problem with a SOAP adapter sender communication channel.
I'm trying to migrate a scenario from XI 3.0 to PI7.1 SP6 (PI_BASIS 2006_1_710 SAPKIPYN06).
I can send messages successfully to the old system using the URL
    http://host:port/XISOAPAdapter/MessageServlet?channel=:BC_Name:CC_SOAP_Sender
On PI7.1 I get
    400 Bad HTTP request
    Error: -21
    Version: 7010
    Component: HTTP_PLG
    Module: http_plgrt_mt.c
    Line: 5226
    Error Tag:
    Detail: illegal request version
I have created a Sender Agreement, generated the wsdl from that and tried the URL in there.
Surprisingly it has the old format, namely
    http://host:port/XISOAPAdapter/MessageServlet?senderParty=&senderService=BC_Name&receiverParty=&receiverService=&interface=myInterface&interfaceNamespace=urn:my.Interface:ns
although the 7.1 documentation describes the ?channel=party:service:channel style only.
Anyway, the result remains the same.
I tried some other approaches like escaping the colons in the URL without success.
The user has the role SAP_XI_DEVELOPER_J2EE assigned.
Any idea what's wrong here?

Yeah,it will be like that because you are posting messages directly to Integration server."Propose URL" does that.You are bypassing the adapter engine when you use the URL generated by "Propose URL" button.

The URL which is working for you in XI 3.0 is posting messages to adapter engine,so generate the URL in PI 7.1 in the same way,by following the second blog i have mentioned.

Working on PPro CS4 footage/project in AE CS4

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this particular forum, so please be gentle!
I have shot some video that I want to stabilise in AE, so I went into Premiere and chose my best clips and shortened some clips to a second or so longer than they need to be (at the start and end) ready for AE and leaving me enough footage to edit with after its been motion tracked.
I understand I should be able to open the PPro project in AE, and technically it does open, but then I get problems.
It asks me which sequence I'd like opened, so I choose the one I want, I then drag the sequence into the timeline (it creates a new composition automatically for me) and a solid timeline appears for the full 17 mins of footage of over an hours worth I have selected and trimmed down (in PPro).
Now I should be able to see the individual clips, each in a separate layer shouldn't I?
Well I cannot, this is all I see:

I heard I could also copy and paste clips over from PPro to AE, so I tried that. But that doesn't give me the trimmed clip, just the entire clip I captured...
I don't really want to have to export individual clips from PPro to stablise in AE, only then to have export them back out of AE to edit in PPro, so what can I do??

I forgot to say that I have also tried sending the sequence to AE from PPro using the Dynamic Link, but all I get is a new composition with a length of 30 seconds that I cannot drag into the timeline...

Not with the method you used which is - *tatah* - DynamicLink. As of CS4 this works both ways. It's easy to confuse with the conventional file import, so I recommend you try this again. There should be other entries further down in your import list simply labeled Premiere Project (legacy projects up to Premiere 6.5) and Premiere Pro Project. These will give you the expected behavior. Regarding the Replace Clip with Composition thing - it's merely a workflow to create quick placeholders from within Premiere. It works as designed and cannot be used to exchange data. You can however use its brother Create Composition from Selected Clips to get something similar to a direct PPro import. Look in the Premiere help for the specifics, as I'm typing this I'm on my Mac (sans Premiere) and I'm not using Premiere much to begin with. The functions are there, but I may have gotten their names wrong.

FCP running slowly and jerkily after sending project to compressor

I have a 3 minute project that is now rendering in compressor. After chugging along for 40 minutes it only has another hour and 15 to go which seems awfully slow to me. Plus, when attempting to work in FCP it can barely move; video doesn't play along with audio, etc. Is this normal operation or should it be moving a bit faster?

Is this HDV? AVCHD? What are your timeline settings? Why are you encoding for blue ray if you want to put it on youtube?
If you export your timeline as quicktime movie, do not recompress all frames you are making an exact copy of your timeline and it will export very quickly. Drop that file into compressor and you can go back to fcp and keep working.
If you search the forum, you'll find all sorts of links and good recipes for getting a great file to send to youtube-- one that youtube can't screw up too badly.

How do you make the "Continue" button exit project on quiz attempt results page

When the project quiz is finished, on the quiz results slide it has a continue button to press, but seems worthless since it just turns into a black screen when finished instead of closing the project like you think it should. Any suggestions on how to make that button close the project?

Closing projects only works reliably when publishing to EXE format. Web browser security often prevents HTM/SWF content windows from being closed in the same way.
Try placing a slide AFTER your quiz results slide so that the Continue button has somewhere to go to. Then change your Preferences > Project > Start and End > Project End Options > Action to Close Project. This way, the project is trying to close down naturally, not as a result of clicking a button. You can make this final slide as short as you like, but a second or so is usually good just in case you have Preferences set to Fade Out On Last Slide.

Help! understand cs4 flash "Project"

Ok, In cs3 flash project was nice it did what i needed but
now it seems to take more time. the reason may be I'm not using it
for the reason usually used so new operations and features where
not geared to my usage. sorry for any spelling problems or
miss-usage of words.
How I use project. I use it to batch publish 10-100 files
while i go get a coffee.
so why am i writing this.
the cs4 version dose some things that i hope someone knows a
way around.
1. so i have my project file and all my flash files open(open
in project not open as a document) and now i have to check off each
10-100 files i want to publish. waist of time. i understand why its
done but anyone know a check all function?
2. in cs3 fash would hide the publishing visualy from me and
just output the file name to an output window when completed. in
cs4 it opens the file publishes and closes it then moves to the
next one. why? i don't need to see this and i feel its slowing the
process. is it?
3. ok side note cause i just dont know if its possible but is
there a way to override the publish settings for all the files to
follow one set way. example say i have 3 flies in the publish
settings file A says publish a jpeg and a swf, file B says publish
a mov and file C says publish a gif to a different location say my
desktop not the folder its in like the others. ok, now is there a
way to make them say publish as just a swf(or whatever) to say a
new empty folder named say new folder on the desktop. basically
overriding the publish settings.

Sending mail to root summarizing results of daily/weekly/monthly?

I would like to modify the daily, weekly, and monthly scripts so that I get an email notification that the jobs ran, and what they did. I added two cron jobs to my crontab file (I use cron, not launchd, should it make a difference) and they send an email to root saying that they ran and did their thing (I have postfix enabled on my Mac so I can get these emails as Postfix redirects them to the admin user's mail account).
The two added crontab entries are
54 01 * * 7 root diskutil secureErase freespace 1 /
and
48 02 * * 6 root diskutil repairPermissions /
so, apparently, diskutil can send me a summary/results email.
But daily, weekly, and monthly aren't doing that. I think it would be nice to get an email parroting all of the "echo" lines in each of the scripts to an email, or somehow summarizing the progress/results of those scripts having run into an email, and sending it to root.
Anybody out there know how to do something like that?

This works for me when I run the periodic command from the Terminal window: create a file in "etc" called "periodic.conf". In that file put:
daily_output="email@address"
weekly_output="email@address"
monthly_output="email@address"I used a full email address, but you can try just "root" or a user name and see if it works.
This setting then overrides the default settings in "/etc/defaults/periodic.conf", BTW. Oh, and they won't be logged in "/var/log/*.out" any more either.

Hi Sheel,
It wont work in a BADI since COMMIT WORK is not explicitly recognized.
Put the FM in a separate report program with COMMIT WORK and call the report using SUBMIT from the BADI. I hope this definitely works!

Sending Project by e-mail

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to send a Logic Project by e-mail.
I've tried exporting the file as an OMF-file but my friend can't open it on her mac (with Logic installed).
I can open the OMF on my computer - so maybe there's something wrong with her mac...?
Anyway, can anyone describe step by step how to send a Logic Project by e-mail?

I save the song, zip the directory and send the zip file. You can find your song in your user folder -> music -> Logic -> Song Name Although I normally upload these to a server, but email should work just fine as well. Take not that some email providers cap the email attachment file size. Most cap them off at around 5-10mb.
