CS5 QT Codec Settings window is cutting off settings

I am running CS5 on Win 7 x64
and every time I open Render Queue > Output Module > QuickTime > Codec Settings
I get the little dialogue box "Adjust the settings in the dialog provided by the codec, then close it when finished. [ Bring to front ]"
but the dialog box with the settings is tiny, about 160px tall and the settings go well below the 160px cut off point.
There is no way to click on the options lower in the window.
Previous versions of AE didn't give me this problem on the same computer.
Is anyone else seeing this?  Is there a solution or work-around?
Thanks!

Confirmed that the Avid Codecs LE 2.2.1 package does not fix this.   However we have heard that Avid is working on a version with the fix but it's not available yet.
As a workaround, you can save a Output Module template file (.aom) from After Effects CS4 with the desired settings for Avid DNxHD and import that into After Effects CS5.
Some background on this problem might be helpful.  It's a little convoluted and requires some understanding of the QuickTime  API.  Which I don't have but smarter people have explained it to me and I  think I can pass it along to you.
There is no  64-bit version of QuickTime, so Adobe created an intermediate 32-bit  process that After Effects and Premiere Pro CS5 can talk to.  It's  called Adobe QT32 Server and you can see it running in Task Manager or  Activity Monitor when After Effects or Premiere Pro are active.  When  you press the Codec Settings button in the QuickTime Options dialog in  After Effects, a request is made to QT32 Server to get the dialog for  the codec controls via QuickTime.  (QT32 Server is also responsible for  that little dialog box with the "Bring to front" button, which is there to make sure  that you don't lose the codec settings dialog behind other windows.)
Here's the important part:  Apple's QuickTime API specifies two  different ways by which applications can get the codec controls UI.   Either by calling the entire full QuickTime settings UI (which is what  After Effects CS4 does) or by just asking for the codec-specific  settings in a separate dialog.  After Effects and Premiere Pro CS5 use  the latter method because it simplifies both the UI and the interchange  between the 64-bit application and the QT32 Server process.
The  problem happens when the codec developer doesn't correctly build the  that separate dialog box containing the codec controls.  This is  necessary for that second API method used by After Effects CS5.  It's  not necessary for the full QuickTime settings UI, which handles those controls.  And since most applications use the full QuickTime  settings UI, it's possible the developer programmed the dialog but it wasn't  fully tested.  Or maybe they just thought that no one used that second  API and didn't program it at all.
Problems with the codec settings  dialogs aren't limited to Avid DNxHD.  AJA's codecs, for example,  don't show a dialog box at all when you press the Codec Settings  button in After Effects CS5, which I suspect means they haven't set the  bounds for their dialog box.  We have contacted AJA about this, of  course, and I will admit to not having updated my AJA codecs in a while  so they may have very well fixed the problem.
For what it's worth, all of the built-in QuickTime  codecs from Apple provide the correct UI.  So do some other third party codecs, and so does Avid for some of  their codecs.  For example, the Avid DV100 codec uses a separate dialog  box, even when using the full QuickTime settings UI.  Select the Avid  DV100 codec in After Effects CS4 and you'll see the Options button in  the lower left that opens the same settings dialog that After Effects  CS5 accesses directly.
I hope  that explanation helps some.

  • The right side of my browser window is cut off. There is no scroll bar on the right and the search bar (upper right) is chopped off (right side).

Actually, the whole right side of the window is cut off, including the page/window header. This isn't just the websites I visit, it's the whole browser window(s). The word "Settings" is also cut off on the right side.

It is possible that the screen is too wide or too high and that the scroll bars fall off.
    * Use Restore or Maximize in the right-click context menu of the Taskbar icon to set focus to the Firefox application if you do not see the Firefox window.
    * Open the system menu of that Firefox window via Alt+Space and see if you can move and resize that window.
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

  • Top of Pop up windows are cut off- out of frame, FF 30.0

On sites where I've allowed pop-ups the pop up often displays with the top cut off (out of the frame). Never had this problem with other versions of FF. Just started when I upgraded to 30.0. Win 7, Res 1366 x 768.

Do you mean the content ''in the window'' is cut off, or the window itself is off the screen upwards of where it should be?
    ''Page content''
Could you try down-zooming the content of the pop-up by holding down the Ctrl key and tapping the - key a couple times. If that makes the content fit the pop-up, the site probably is using a fixed size window that doesn't allow for higher zoom levels.
I am not aware of a fix for that, since the values usually would be hardcoded into the site's script. But pop-up windows should be resizable. That's a hassle if you have to do it often, so perhaps there's an add-on to work around this issue.
    ''Window position''
If you can't click and drag the title bar down, try using the Windows "Move" function. With the popup window active, press Alt+Spacebar and display the window control menu. This may or may not be visible. Press M to select the move function, and press the down arrow until the title bar of the pop up appears on the screen. Then press Enter to accept the current position.
Does Firefox remember your preferred position the next time, or same problem?

  • Pogo game windows being cut off in Firefox only

the games room to any pogo game does not show the full screen. I had been using pogo w/firefox for years with no issues. now this suddenly happens. The window opens normally but the screen appears cut off about 1" from the right side and 1" from the bottom. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and that didn't help. I updated and checked all shockwave and java, adobe and everything is up to date - still no help. I tried the same pogo page in Internet Explorer and it worked perfectly, and google chrome works also. so it can't be my computer. I'm not a fan of IE, and certainly don't want to start using that browser because there is some bug - but can someone figure something out? anything? I've even tried the pogo suggestions: screen resolution and that didn't help either. tried the ctrl +0...nope. ctrl+mouse scroll....nope.

  • The top of my iTunes window is cut off

The iTunes title bar cuts through the play button, volume control, track information, and search bar since I downloaded iTunes 6.0. Anyone else had this problem? Anyone else noticed how getting support for an Apple problem is like trying to talk with the President?

  • Why my itunes window is cut off?

I recently updated my itunes running in my MBP, my itunes version is 12.0.1.26, and
    Something I can do? Thanks

Solved!, It was a problem with the software Flavours and when I updated it, all works fine again.

  • When accessing Options to choose extension settings for particular add ons, and a new window for an add on's advanced selections opens, I cannot scroll to the bottom of it, it is cut off.

When I get to the point where I've made my desired selections and want to click to apply them, (or also sometimes just to see the rest of my remaining choices) I cannot because the bottom of the window is cut off. I am not able to resize the window with my pointer as one can with most windows when using programs or websites. It only happens with the pop up windows. Thank you in advance for any help!

I solved my own problem. :-) I simply needed to change the "size" setting in my add-on "Theme Font & Size Changer" to a smaller number. Now the new windows don't require scrolling to see the entire content. But, I suppose for someone with serious vision problems, they might need to do the same thing, but then break out a magnifying glass to read everything in the window.....

In that situation, I have no idea. I haven't used popups

  • How can I prevent the text in non-resizable contexts from being cut off?

I have not changed the Application, System, or Dialog fonts from their defaults.
    This is the result:
    Related:  http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/text-in-non-resizable-windows-is-cut-off/td-p/92300

Medium might be the default for high ppi monitors but it is very different from the original windows settings that were used when 96 ppi was standard. Of course for a high resolution FullHD resolution on a 15 inch screen you end up with a ppi of around 150ppi.
This article explains somewhat the history of where 96ppi came from and that it was in fact already a convinient misrepresentation of the real values. The problem is partly that LabVIEW makes some assumptions about the size of text based on the actual ppi settings while the rendering of the text as done by Windows can be scaled by your control panel adjustment. However the solution is not as trivial as replacing all assumbtions about the size of text by the new values as that won't always give the correct values either and also has quite a lot of other issues such as controls suddenly looking very oversized when moving a front panel from a low ppi device to a high ppi device. Basically the way Windows deals with screen resolution and different ppi makes it simple for Windows to render text on a display without ugly aliasing effects but makes it impossible for an application to both be text and size accurate when rendering windows like a LabVIEW front panel.
It's also a reason why so called retina displays still don't really work under Windows while IOS has them already for quite some time.
Ravens Fan, Windows 7 has Normal (100%), Medium (125%) and Larger (150%). To maintain the relative text size on an old CRT for a FullHD 15 inch labtop display one would have to use the Larger setting, which is outright ugly. I personally use Smaller on all my Windows 7 labtops because of issues like the LabVIEW front panels rendering but also many other applications get into trouble otherwise. Yes it looks kind of small on my FullHD 15 inch LCD monitor, but at least it is all consistent.

  • CS4: Publish Settings window cut off

When I bring up Publish Settings, the window the comes up is
cut off on my MacBook. I can't grab it and move it down into the
center of the screen since the top of it is out of reach. Probably
easier to just check out the screen grab:

Any idea how I can fix this?
    Thanks

Okay, I think this is officially a bug. I temporarily
installed Mercury Mover so that I could reposition the Publish
Settings window. Problem solved. Except that that next time I
brought up the Publish Settings, it was back in the same old
position with the top cut off.
New question: How do I report a bug to Adobe?

  • Wow...the hits just keep comin' - CS5 cut off my video...!!

I have a video I just made and exported in Camtasia...it's just ScreenCast PowerPoint video...
    Export settings =
    1024X768
    AVI
    Camtasia Codec
    30FPS
I imported in CS5 and in the timeline it cut the video off maybe 75% - 85% of the way thru -- it just stops at that point...
the exported version is full length --- no problems...but like I said...in CS5 - it's cutting it off...
what the hell is this and how to fix?
    thanks for your help

    >ScreenCast PowerPoint video
I know that PPro does not directly read PowerPoint, so I will GUESS that whatever ScreenCast is, it is not creating a file that is 100% compatible with PPro

  • QuickTime Pro for Windows cuts off after about a second?

Pro version of QuictTime worked fine at first on Vista 32bit. (Don't judge me becasue I'm using Vista, please!) Used it for video editing last fall. Now I find any video or audio file I try to play cuts off at about 1 minute. Only way to get it to play an entire movie is to turn on "Play All Frames" or else mess with playback speed -- and in both cases audio gets turned off. I have tried resetting just about every preference and view setting I can find. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Was especially careful to make sure I did not have playbe restricted by means of "Play Selection Only." Furthermore, teh start-stop bracketting controls have no effect.
This happens with all kind of video and audio tracks.
I am at a total loss. Searched Windows Registry for something amiss but found nothing. Even being a software developer myself I just don't see what is amiss. Could this be due to some nasty codec? Conflict with other software? Only new media software on this machine I know of is Adobe's and I never even use that.
    Help?

I haven't [yet] tried it with other M4V files, but I will and get back to you.
BTW, after it crashed, I restarted QuickTime and opened the newly-created "self contained" movie and it seemed to play OK,  So despite the inconvenience of having to restart, the crash didn't seem to affect the end product of my work.

  • Cut Off Window Screenshots

In Snow Leopard, when I try to take a screenshot of a window that spans the entire width of the screen (such as iTunes) the right side of it is cut off. The drop shadow is missing from the right side of the window.
When I did this in Leopard I'd get a screenshot that was 1520 x 890 pixels. But in Snow Leopard I now get a screenshot that's 1440 x 891 pixels. 1440 is the exact width of my iMac's display, so a screenshot of a window should be wider than the width of the screen, to include the drop shadow.
So it seems there's a bug in Snow Leopard.

Yeah, that's what I mean. The screenshots in Snow Leopard come out with the same horizontal resolution as the Window you're capturing. But in Leopard, when you used to do that, the screenshot would have a greater horizontal resolution than the Window, because the capture included the drop shadow.
