CSS Browser compatibility problems - Safari

I just published my portfolio site and it looks/functions fine in Firefox and Chrome, but is COMPLETELY screwed in safari and I don't even want to check IE.
It previews in Safari browser out of Dreamweaver fine too, which really confuses me since that what I was going off of.  The flash elements don't work correctly, the Spry menu bar and accordions don't work. None of the hover classes work.  The image thumbnails which use lightbox don't display.  And the content section isn't even visible.  I don't even know where to start.  Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.  Here is some code:

I wonder if adding a position and z-index to it would help.
Adding a position and z-index to anything rarely helps!  I think the problem is more systemic than that.  But I'm not a Flash person so I don't really know.

I'm having problem with <t:selectOneMenu> and JavaScript calendar on IE. It works fine on Firefox but doesn't work on IE.
The JSF code is as follows:

There are dozens of CSS attributes that can (and have to) be handwritten. Trouble with them is that, like text shadows, they don't appear in all browsers. I have nine different browsers installed and test pages in ALL of them before I "finish" building site or page for a template.
I try to build for Firefox, out of personal preference for it, but I have to do things that work with IE because it still holds the market share (46%IE to 42%FF), and I will only go with designs that work in IE, FF, NS, Opera, Safari, and Chrome.
    As to your questions.
    1. The compatibility check is most likely current with the time of the build. I don't know if that component updates as browsers do, but I'd tend to think it doesn't. I'm using CS4  and there haven't been any updates for it in nearly a year. Firefox has released 4.0, Opera released 11, and Safari released 5 since then. The updater would have found and downloaded something if it was available.
    2. I could only guess. Text shadows DON'T show up in design view (or in IE) but they do in browser preview. It's just a UI quirk, and it means "trial and error" is the onyl way to get what you want.
    3. The quick-selects which are in DW dropdowns or popouts are the ones most  common to CSS designs and have been proven to work with all browsers at the time of release of your particular build of DW.
    Hope that helps..

  • Browser Compatability Problems

    Hello,
I recently posted a web site using the new iWeb. I used shadow on white text on a white background which looks fine on Safari (mac and windows) but as soon as i open it in Firefox or Internet Explorer the texts shadow doesn't show, making it unreadable. Small things also change in relation to the layout of the rest of the page but this is minimal (mainly that the allignmet of some text is slightly off). It would be great if everyone used Safari but for the most part the people viewing the site will be on Firefox. Does anyone know a fix for this?
    Thanks

    Hi all,
I have the same problem since my transition from iWeb'06 to iWeb'08.
Before that , my website made under iWeb'06 perfectly rendered on any web browser, but since the upgrade to iWeb'08, there are a lot of problem with fonts and shadows that don't show up in gecko's render engine powered browsers.
Hope really that for 79$, Apple will fix that f*** bug SOON !

  • Browser compatability problem

    Hi All,
In my application there is a download functionality which prompts to open or save a excel sheet. The problem here is
this is working fine in IE6. But in IE7 , IE7.0.5730.11 it is working but in IE7.0.5730.13 it is not working.
Is there any way to make it work in that particular version other than installing the particular version.
    Thanks!
    Swarnarprakash

    Hi Deb,
The actual functionality is when I click the download button a window opens which prompts to open or save.
Now when I click the button a window suddenly opens and disappers. Nothing is happening after that.
So is it has to do something with browser settings? Can you please tell what settings do I need to change.
    Thanks!

It seems that the height of a DIV is not working like in IE
    Ie.: <div class="tableContainer" id="data2"
style="height:150px;"> is shown in Mozilla with

Read up on the CSS box model and how it is handled
    differently between
browsers and compliant versus quirks mode.
Basically - if you have not taken steps to make the different
    browsers
as compliant as possible, they will calculate the dimensions
    of a
    display element completely differently.

Left comfort of GoLive and tables, to CS5 Suite - Dreamweaver. Basic CSS skills, so don't have the intuitive ability to frame question well.
Regarding this particular page, I simply built, then copied the index.html page on a test site at:
    http://www.screamingeagles.com/client_view/ScreamingEagles_v2/index.html
and stripped out sidebars and menu bar, and began building a form in the "main content" area.
    URL to page in question:

Noticed a "green line" in code so checked browser compatibility as follows:

    Found 2 errors in twoColFixLtHdr.css
    Affects: Firefox 1.5; Internet Explorer 6.0, 7.0; Internet Explorer for Macintosh 5.2; Netscape 8.0; Opera 8.0, 9.0; Safari 2.0
-----------------Error found (green lined in code) as follows------------------------
    Line 6: <link href="../css/twoColFixLtHdr.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
Validation didn't give me anything to go on. Given my modest coding skills, should I just build a new page from templates as an better

I think that the errors are *in* the twoColFixLtHdr.css file, so you need to open that file and run Validation again.

  • Problem with Flash videos. They are only display in "Private Browsing" mode, in Safari 5.1.7

The symptoms is: The flash videos are only display with a full red bar and nothing happen, no video no sound nothing. The Flash player was upgrade with 11.2.202.235. before safari 5.1.7. I have an iMac with SL, and a Macbook with SL too. However after I upgraded safari 5.1.7 the flash videos are not display correctly, (only videos). The same happen in both computers.
I need to tell you that I follow all the possible recommendations that I founded in internent. I uninstall flash pug-in many times. I restore both. I switch many buttons and options like "reset safari", "empty cahe", "block pop-up windows", "enable java-script", "enable java". I turn off and on the firewall. I switch all the options in the flash player plug in preferences. And nothing. I turn on and off the plug ins. In fact I tried all the possibilities in the preferences menus from the programs.
In one occasion I had a glimpse of functionality for only one hour without problems after I reinstall safari from the Apple website, but only worked until I turned off the computer. The next day was the same problem.
After I fought with safari 5.1.7 and the plug-in flash player 11.2.202.235. Now I noticed something wired, only when I switch the "Private browsing" option in safari is when the videos are displayed correctly.
The same videos work perfectly in Firefox.
    Some Suggestions?

Thank you everybody, the problem was corrected in a unexpected way, I decided no to pay attention to the problem after a week fighting with that. I was navigating in a private browsing for two days. I turned the private browsing off again the next Monday, after a week I noticed that all the videos were display correctly, I do not have the problem again. That was wired because at the same time in the laptop everything is ok too. I have my extensions ON, Block Pop-up windows, In Flash payer all the options in ask....something. Only the option Disable Java script in not activated, only when I activate that option all videos are not display.
I think maybe I updated the computer and maybe something happened in the middle. I always update my imac and my macbook at the same time. There is a Flash removal security update in may 14. Maybe that fixed the problem.
Thanks to everybody, everything is ok now however I wanted to know what was the problem.

  • CSS compatibility problem

    Hey y'all Adobe pros!
Got an issue for you. In a website I'm building, I've
attached several CSS sheets, and they always preview perfectly in
Dreamweaver, but in IE (I have IE7), some styles don't show,
leaving plain text. I've attached my home page - look at the file
I've attached showing this. Anyone got a solution?
I've run the Browser Compatibility Check in Dreamweaver, and
it shows that the lines of code where the css styles are attached
have errors, but having absolutely no skills in code, I have no
    idea what.
    Thanks

I don't believe you can. The most you could do is copy and
paste the entire code into a post. It would be just as easy to post
a link to the page in question.

  • Yahoo mail tells me to upgrade Safari but I have the latest version of Safari 6.0.1  Is there a compatibility problem with Yahoo mail and Safari?

Yahoo mail tells me to upgrade Safari but I already have the lastest version of Safari.  Is there a compatability problem with the Safari 6.0.1 and the latest version of Yahoo mail?

Since Yahoo is web based email, the compatbility issue is on the Yahoo side, not Apple.
You can access your Yahoo account without having to use Safari.
Open the Mac Mail app. From the menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
Click + to add your Yahoo account.

  • Help with CSS browser issue... please!

I posted this issue on the Wordpress forums and am not having
much luck. Since it seems to be a CSS issue, I thought I should
post it here and see if any of you can help me out.
I am having a problem with browser compatibility on my
Wordpress powered blog. I built the template in Dreamweaver and
then spliced it up into the individual blog files.
    The blog is at
    http://www.babybumps.net/blog
The main problem is that in Mozilla and Safari, the
background wrapper is dropping out right before the navigation bar
(the background disappears). Since this part is still in the header
file, I'm not sure what is going wrong.
I am attaching the code for the index and header. If you need
to see any of the other code, let me know!
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Browser compatibility checker

I wrote earlier about problems I am having with the correct
presentation of my home page with Safari 3.X and Firefox vs. IE7.
With Dreamweaver CS3 the browser compatibility checker works
with (as one browser example) Safari 1.X and 2.X.
Is there a way to update the checker to deal with the newer
versions of any and all browsers so that the checks can be of more
current use? I already know my site is fine with Safari 2.X, but
the outmoded check can't give me any clues as to what is wrong when
    viewed with 3.X, etc.
    Thanks.

If you have page rending problems run your site through the
    W3 validators.
Valid code takes care of most, if not all, rendering problems
    in Safari, FF,
    Opera and IE7.

Sorry, I don't know if you can update the browser
    compatibility checker

    checks.

  • Browser compatibility issue with IE6/7

    Hello,
I created my webpage in dreamweaver on a MAC.  I have viewed my page(s) A-OK in Safari and firefox however I am being told that my page is not viewing properly on Internet Explorer.  I then found the browser compatibility feature to test the page in Dreamweaver.  What I have found is that I have browser support problems...this is the error from my index page - which is actually on all my pages!
    un-scrollable content bug:
If one or more absolutely-positioned elements are placed within a relatively positioned element with no assigned dimensions, either no scrollbar will appear at all, or it will not extend far enough to view all of the content. (Note: This bug will not affect your page if the content in the AP element does not extend beyond the height of the viewport.)

    Hi kadarusastry,
This issue is about the browser compatibility.
Please add your SharePoint site into compatibility view in IE 9 or IE 10.
Or, use IE 8 mode in browser mode for IE 9 or IE 10.
About how to add site into compatibility view, you can refer to the link:

Note: the settings for IE 9 and IE 10 are same.

  • Spry accordion browser compatability issues

I am building my first site and was in the process of checking each page for browser compatability. this certain page has spry accordians and I have some error messages that I don't understand.
The first one says Line 48 has 2 errors in SpryAccordian.css.  I don't have any indication of what the problem is and where exactly line 48 is on the page. Is there a way for it to take you to that exact spot to show you where the problem is?
I clicked on get more info. and came to a page that doesn't seem to be addressing what my issue is. Don't understand that part.

  • Dreamweaver browser compatibility

I wrote a simple little BMI calculator that was putting the result in a span. Because I wanted to clear all fields, I modified the javascript to put the calculated result into a form input field. Now, the calculator works in some browsers and not others. It works in Chrome and Safari but not IE and Firefox. I verified the code with W3C and used the browser compatibility function in Dreamweaver to check my code. Everything is supposedly fine. HELP! Has anyone else had this problem?
