CSS Style (report column attributes) not working

I found the CSS Style settings for a report column only seem to work if using a "Standard Report Column". Since the report is wider than the screen, some columns are wrapping, making the report not-that-nice readable.
Unfortunately I have the need to define some report columns where undesired wrapping occurs as "Display as Text (based on LOV, does not save state)" and tried to avoid wrapping using "white-space:nowrap;" or specifying a fixed width, but it seems I'm out of luck - is there a way around this (other than performing the report query using a huge DECODE clause and setting the column to "Standard Report Column" again, which somewhat renders the LOV useless except for the select list on the data entry form)? This is happening on APEX 3.12.
Furthermore - is this expected behaviour?
Thanks in advance,
Holger

Furthermore - is this expected behaviour?Looks like it, or it is a [long-standing bug|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=1126613]. I've tried it (although only have access to APEX 3.0 at present) and none of the CSS class/style/custom attributes from Column Formatting or Tabular Form Element are being applied. If it's not a bug then it should be raised as an enhancement request.
In the meantime you'll need to work round it.
other than performing the report query using a huge DECODE clause Is that necessary due to a static LOV? If it's dynamic based on a table/view then get the look-up value in the query via a join or scalar subquery so you have a Standard Report Column and can use the CSS class/style/custom attributes from Column Formatting.
Alternatively, stick with the Display as Text from LOV and create a custom named column report template using [colgroup/col|http://reference.sitepoint.com/html/colgroup] to specify fixed width columns.

• BUG: Dynamic report column headings not working with some templates

Using Apex 2.0, we are trying to create a vertical report with dynamic labels like &P26_REF_RECEIVED_DATE_L. based on items populated by PL/SQL.
This seems to work fine for some templates but not for others. With a horizontal report template we get output like:
<th class="t4ReportHeader" id="REF_RECEIVED_DATE">Received</th>
<td  headers="Received" class="t4data">29-MAR-2007</td>But with the vertical template we get:
<th>&P26_REF_RECEIVED_DATE_L.</th><td>29-MAR-2007</td>Also, if we use "default: vertical report, look 1" we see "&P26_REF_RECEIVED_DATE_L." in the output, but with "default: vertical report, look 2" we see "Received".

have you checked that your report template has a
valid value for the "Column Heading Template"
property?This template has nothing in the "Column Heading Template" because it is designed to show the data in this form:
Heading1 - Value1
Heading2 - Value2
Heading3 - Value3
Hence both the heading and the data appear in the "Column Template 1" property as follows:
<tr><th class="t3header">#COLUMN_HEADER#</th><td class="t3data">#COLUMN_VALUE#</td></tr>
Maybe it is an Apex limitation that the #COLUMN_HEADER# value can't be accessed from this subtemplate? Yet somehow it works with "default: vertical report, look 2" (which I realise isn't a template as such).

• Interactive report column search not working

Hi,
On Apex 4.01 and discovered that when using the individual column search functionality (clicking on the column label), the search on a column for a userid, the dropdown listing is not showing all userids that are clearly listed in the report. For example, the dropdown only shows up through IDs starting with 's--------' so when I search for an ID with 'vm' it does not show it, yet I can do a sort and go down the rows on the report and find it. Is there a limit to the dropdown list? Or is this a bug?

• Report column sort not working

Hello,
Apex 4.1
I have a master-detail report and form. I have ticked the "Sort" box in the Report Attibutes to sort by one of the fields, a text field. However, when I click on the column heading to sort the report it sorts by the primary key id column instead.
Is there something else that needs to be done to enable a sort on a column?

• Few values of report column do not display in report while applying filter

Post Author: anuragg11
CA Forum: WebIntelligence Reporting
There are 6 drill filters applied on the report to filter out the report column data. Few values of the report are not displaying in the report when using drill filter. Same issue is with report filter too. If filters are removed then values are appearing in the report. We are using version BO XI R2 & Java runtime JRE 1.4v. It doesn't look issue is with Java version because only few specific data of the report column are not shown in the report when using filter on the data. Example: One of Report data column contains below values: 24.2, 26.9, 120.1, 230, 274.9, 275.8, 333.2 Report is displaying all these values when there is no filter on any data. But report doesn't display data when applying filter on 274.9 or 120.1 howver filter on other values 24.2, 26.9, 230, 275.8, 333.2 are working fine.

Hello,
I think i know what your problem is.
Although in table view your 2 requests combine perfectly and show separate results in pivot view BI unfortunaterly adds them up.
One work around would be to go in your criteria add in each request a dummy column. This can be obtained the following way:
1. click on a column to add it in the criteria (it doesnt matter which one)
2. go into the edit formula of that column
3. delete the formula and in its place write 'Dummy Column 1'
Do the same for the second request by adding a "Dummy Column 2'
Now the Pivot Table should also show up correctly
Let me know if it goes well or if you have any further questions,

I follow your instruction as below:
1) download the sample app vbnet_win_printtoprinter.zip to dev computer and compile it to .NET 2005.
- Run from my dev computer
- Click "Print Report" button
- Error message display - please see below
        The error was due to the default printer name hard coded in the program was not found. I have edited to my printer name and it can be printed out with no error.
2) Use a "saved data" report so that you do not have to worry about database logon.
can't find the "saved data", please elaborate
3) Then copy the exe to the 64 bit box and try to print using this sample app.
-do you mean copy the exe to the 64 bit computer for testing ?

• Column Alignment in Column Attributes under Report Attributes Not Working

After changing the default setting and applying the new setting for changing column alignment from left to right, the numbers in the column stay to the left when I run the page. I've cleared the cache and the setting stays on "right" even after logging out of the browser completely and going back in. The numbers in the column of the report are aligned left despite the alignment setting for the column begin "right." I have this problem with more than one column and on completely different page of the application. What am I missing?

Hi,
Is the Display As setting set to "Standard Report Column"? Is this just a standard report or a tabular form and the numbers in INPUT items?

• Using Column Value in CSS Style for Column in Report

I am trying to apply a CSS style (background color) to a column in a report based on another column.
So for the Column attributes for a specific column, I would like to be able to add this to the 'CSS Style' Field under the group, "Column Formatting":
background-color:#BKG_COLOR#;
It doesn't seem to be taking my column value, which is #daf2ea
In the CSS Style Field, if I change it to: background-color:#daf2ea - then it works.
So it doesn't seem to take my column value of #BKG_COLOR" in the CSS Style field.
Any ideas? Do I need to use the 'HTML Expression' field instead, and how would I do that?
Thanks,
John

Hi,
that's correct, custom report templates will do.
I find them sometimes quite limited, though. And I always ask myself "how would I do it without APEX", because there's often a lean jQuery solution that affords less coding.
If you employ a so called "marker class" that depends on your colour value, you could begin like in the previous answer and enter the follwing into HTML Expression:
&lt;span class="#BKG_CLASS#"&gt;#THE_COLUMN_I_WANT_TO_SHOW#&lt;/span&gt;
That means you would not query a plain color, but some name that can act as a CSS marker, like
select THE_COLUMN_I_WANT_TO_SHOW
          , case when THE_COLUMN_I_WANT_TO_SHOW > 100 then 'hotColor' else 'coldColor' end as BKG_CLASS
      from my_tableIn the page's Function and Global Variable Declaration, you'd enter
function colorMyReport () {
      apex.jQuery('.hotColor').closest('td').css('background-color','#FAA');
}And under Execute when Page Loads, you enter:
colorMyReport();There's only one challenge, of course, when the report is paged via AJAX, because the script would only run once (on the first page shown).
But if this is a solution for you, I'd be pleased to show you how to overcome this. Just let me know.
Hope there is no typo in my typing, because I have to catch my train now :-)
Bye!

• IF NEW VARIABLE IN SQL QUERY, DISPLAYS AS LAST COLUMN + rpad not working

Hello everybody and thank you in advance,
1) if I add a new variable to my sql query to select a column which was already in the table, it shows it in the report table as the Last column to the right. That is, if I add "street" to
something like city, postcode, street, store, manager, etc, instead of placing street between postcode and store, it places it as i said as the last column to the right.
2) When values are entered into the cells of the tables, yes, they do expand it to their needed lenght, But, only if it is one word. If it is two, like when i enter the value "very good"
then it takes two lines so as with a carriage return within the cell, thus, making it too high the row. I tried to padd spaces with rpad but it did not work. something like rpad(stock, 20,' ')
I must say that the table is in the same page where there is a Form, so as the table grows in lenth it is actually squeezing the form located right on its left.
3) rpad did not work with the most simple syntax, but less would with what i need because it turns out i am using DECODE in order to do a conversion between value displayed and
value returned in my select list of values, something like : DECODE (TO_CHAR (stock),'1','Deficient','2','Average','3','Good','4','Very Good',null) AS stock,
so, i have tried to put the rpad there in several places but either it gave parsing error or it left the column empty not picking any values.
thank you very much
Alvaro

Alvaro
1) That is standard behaviour of apex builder. You can change the display order with the arrows in the report attributes column report.
2) You will have to play with the style attributes of the column to accomplice this. For instance style="white-space:pre;" in the Element Attributes of the column attributes. White-space:normal would thread several space (' ') as 1. So no matter how many you add with rpad they will be shown as 1.
Or set a width either as attibute or in a style class for that column.

• Column Highlighting Not Working in Chrome or Firefox but works in IE

Version  4.1.1.00.23
Hello,
I have a classic report that I'm trying to apply dynamic column highlighting on.
I'm following the discussion from Jari https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2209261
The columns to be highlighted are being determined from a table that gets set every month and the value are being selected in the report query.
The javascript that is in the Region Footer is:
<script type="text/javascript">
        $(function()
            $('##REGION_ID# input[name="f01"]').each(function(i)

                $(this).parents("tr:first").find('[headers="' + mth_var_pnct + '"]').css({"background-color":"silver"});
</script>
The highlighting works in Internet Explorer, but the same columns are not being highlighted in Chrome or Firefox and there are no errors being reported in either browser.
Can someone help me with this?
Is there additional information I can provide that I haven't.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Fac,
This is a classic report. After debugging all 3 browsers I finally found the issue.  First, my javascript isn't very good.
When I looked at the source of the page, I saw that 'F01' contained the value to determine which month's columns to highlight.
I then thought that if I evaluated the contents of 'F01', using $x('f01').value, that I could set my variables in my if statements.
During my debugging of the javascript in each of the browsers I came upon the 'this' object being displayed in the watch window. When I expanded the node to view the contents I saw that it also contained the value of the month to highlight as well.
I have since changed my 'if' statement to if ($x(this).value == <month number> and the hightlighting is working in all 3 browsers correctly.
Is this still not the right approach as Jari discusses in his post I referenced above?
Thanks,
Joe

• Report Column "attributes"

I'm sure I am missing something basic here, but no amount of searching has yielded a result:
I have a SQL Query report for a product with length, width, height column data - two queries.
1. some products don't use these fields (ie they are null), when showing a single record I assumed if you used the Conditional Display under Column Atrributes, set it to "value of item in expression 1 not null" and then set expression 1 to #length# the item would not appear on the page when length was null and naturally would appear if a value existed ?!
2. I also have a javascript function to convert mm to inches and display the result in layer when you hover over the length, width, height items. It uses a OnmouseOver/OnMouseOut in the <TD> tag (based on tooltips), but I don't seem to be able to get this to appear when using the tabular form element fields, again under column attributes?!
Any pointers greatly appreciated....

Thanks for the feedback Scott,
The theory is this - I'm working with the Online cart example and when displaying the product detail (ie a 1 record report) some items have L, W, H and others don't so naturally I'd like to tidy the page and not display the null items (and/or labels). there is actually about 7 columns like this so using a decode could get a bit messy!
Strangely enough when I use the Conditional Display for the column (albeit incorrectly) the item is removed from the page as I would expect in a null situation - so I think unless I'm barking up the wrong tree the functionality is there, I'm just not using it correctly. I've tried # values, &values for the column in expression 1 but to no avail, so I figured this was the area where I was going wrong.... I guess the question is can you reference the current item value in the Expression 1 column attribute to determine if it is null and hence not display it ??

• Report using charts not work on non-development machine

Post Author: ftsoft
CA Forum: .NET
using visual studio report uses charts.  works fine on development machine when I move the web app to a test machine which does NOT contain visual studio, the chart report does not worknote: other reports which only display data records work fine. the space where the charts should be displayed contain the following two lines CrystalReportViewer - CrystalReportViewer1 Error: Fail to render the page.  any help would be appreciated

Solution suggested worked for me.
On my test server Crystal was trying to use the c:\temp directory to write the temporary images, my report always ran ok on the test server.  On the live server CRW was running under with the ASPNET account and / or my own user account.
I ran FileMon and filtered on the aspnet_wp.exe process across both servers and ran the application up to the point of generating the issue.  The FileMon output from the test server showed no issues we as the output from FileMon off the live server showed an access denied message.
I gave access right to the relevant accounts on the relevant folders on the live server and the report ran fine.
