CSS11501 Slow per connection performance

I'm seeing an issue with our CSS 11501 (SW vers 08.10.1.06) units where the per-connection (flow?) throughput is very slow. It appears to be capped around 100kBps.
CSS port 1 has an internet uplink on n.n.n.1. The CSS vlan IP is n.n.n.2/27 (via circuit vlan 1065).
The servers are plugged directly into the CSS. They are in the same vlan and ip space, ie. n.n.n.13, with default gateway n.n.n.1.
My issue is that an individual http download, whether coming to/from one of the servers behind the CSS, is getting very poor throughput. Each http "flow" seems to be capped at 100Kbps or less.
Can anyone point out why this is happening and how I might resolve/avoid the issue?

There is no throughput problem if the CSS is bypassed, ie, the server is connected directly to the same switch as the firewall, and has it's default route set to the gateway ip address of the firewall. I can pull the full 100Mbit/s FD in this configuration, but the CSS doesn't see the traffic, so no load-balancing.
The network layout has changed slightly since my first posting, but I'm still seeing a throughput issue for the devices connected/routing out via the CSS.
I have now also raised this with Cisco TAC.

LAN1, LAN2, and LAN3 are all publicly accessible Internet addresses (subject to the firewall placed between LAN 1&2). NAT is not used.
Any thoughts about why a single connection (flow) is slowed down dramatically when talking to either the servers that are placed in LAN3, or the VIPs placed in LAN2.

  • Outlook 2010 performance much slower than 2007 and 2003 when used with POP3 mail provider over slow network connection

When received messages include embedded pictures, Outlook 2010 does not persist those pictures in the .pst file with the message text.  Instead, it redownloads the pictures every time the message is rendered for viewing or printing.
Send/Receive to replicate a message with multiple embedded pictures from POP3 mail server (not Exchange server)
Select and view the message - notice all the x placeholders for the embedded pictures
Right-click any x placeholder and select to "download pictures"
After some delay, the pictures are rendered, replacing the placeholders, to form the complete message
Now, select "File" and "Print" -- notice that the preview is not immediately displayed.  There is a delay while thos same embedded pictures are downloaded, again.  Sometimes there will be a pop-up notification that Outlook is "communicating with
    the server"
Eventually the message is fully rendered with all embedded pictures
Now, select a different printer -- notice that the preview disappears and it takes time to .... yes, redownload those same pictures, again.
Finally, click on "Print" -- notice yet another delay for a final download to rerender the message for the printer.
Having done all that, close Outlook, disconnect from the network (turn off wireless or disconnect wire), open Outlook and view that same message.  The x placeholders are shown instead of the embedded pictures.  Although those embedded pictures
were downloaded multiple times already, they were not persisted locally.
Outlook 2003 and 2007 correct ask for confirmation to save the pictures locally then does so.  Printing and viewing is then possible without having to redownload those pictures.
Is there going to be a fix for this Outlook 2010 defect?   I've been waiting, applying updates, and waiting.....

Please do not close this thread.  The issue remains.  I apologize for not checking back sooner.  I thought I would get pinged by email when this tread was updated;  I did not.  I'll monitor more closely in the future.
First, please note that I explicitly set Outlook to NOT download pictures automatically.  I want to be prompted to download.  However, after confirmed that I want the download, I expect pictures related to the message to be downloaded only once,
immediately after I confirm that I want them downloaded.
I have confirmed many times that the behavior in this area is NOT identical between 2003, 2007 and 2010.  In particular, 2007 does download once and store locally (if user confirms to save changes when prompted), as expected, and 2010 downloads each
    view/preview/print.
This is quite easy to verify -- simply unplug any network cable, disable wireless, etc.  In other words completely detach from the networked world.  2007 will correctly view/preview/etc. from local storage whereas 2010 always reverts to showing
placeholders for any embedded images.  This is 100% repeatable.
As an additional verification, simply move the .pst file to another system that is not connected to any network.  Open the .pst file with 2007 and any embedded images that were already downloaded (and saved) are there, with 2010 they are not.
With 2010, it is bad enough that embedded images are not saved for viewing when disconnected.  Worse than that, the repeated downloads can be a significant disruption to performance.  Just get on a really slow wireless connection as is typical
in some hotels.  Then try to view and print messages with lots of embedded pictures.  Slow takes on a whole new, even slower, meaning.
This 2010 defect has been reproduced.  Is there a KB article, Windows Update, hotfix,.... anything available to eliminate this problem of repeated downloads of embedded pictures?

  • FP-2000 clock is 15 minutes slow per day

My FP-2000 system clock is about 15 minutes slow per day. How come?
Is it possible to adjust it?
Because it is running stand-alone it cannot be adjusted remotely. It is only connected to a PC every once in a while.
    Regards,
    Gerwim

    Hello Gerwim,
The clock on the FP-2000 has normaly an accuracy of about +/- 1min/Month. However the process on the controller that is running the clock is a low priority process. When you controller has higher priority tasks to perform, which take a lot of processing power, it can happen that the clock will get behind more then usual. When a host computer is connected to the system the controller will check with the host computer (its time server) if the clock is running correctly and adjust it when needed. At Stand-Alone Base this timeserver is not available.
There is a VI under: Real-Time>>RT Utilities which is called RT Set Date and Time which can be used to set the date and time on the controller. The problem is however that you would need a reference to set your clock to. If the amount of time the clock runs behind every day is pretty consistend maybe you can use this VI to adjust the clock with a certain amount of minutes every now and then. Ofcourse you still will not have a very accurate clock setting but still more accurate as it was. The only other option you would have is a permanent time-server connected to the FP controller.
    Hope this helps,

  • Slow Wireless Connection

I am having problems with a very slow internet connection, that seems to be getting slower.
Currently we have a DSL Modem connected to a LinkSys DSL Router connected to an Airport Extreme. We have been using this setup for several years.
We run 2-4 laptops of various types...MacBook, MacBook Pro, and 1 Windows. Today, I can hardly get my MacBook to go anywhere.
I went up to my iMac G5 and plugged in the ethernet directly to a port in the router and did a DSL speed test through my ISP and it came back as 4.4 Mbps, about the same as it has since I upgraded speeds last fall.
I then disconnected the ethernet and switched back to wireless, and ran the same test. This time is came back 775 Kbps.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

I am assuming that you are still having the issue with network performance, or at least it has not stabilized.
I would still think Wi-Fi interference to be the potential issue and suggest that you pursue this a bit farther ... if you don't mind.
Again, I would suggest downloading a copy of iStumbler. Use iStumbler's Inspector feature (select Edit > Inspector from iStumbler's menu) to determine the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at different points around your house, by performing a simple RF site survey. Within the Inspector, note the values for "signal" & "noise" at these locations. Start with your MacBook near the base station, note the readings, and then, choose the locations where you will typically use your MacBook to access the Internet.
SNR is the signal level (in dBm) minus the noise level (in dBm). For example, a signal level of -53dBm measured near an access point and typical noise level of -90dBm yields a SNR of 37dB, a healthy value for wireless LANs.
The SNR, as measured from the MacBook, should decrease as the range to the base station increases because of applicable free space loss. Also an increase in RF interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones, which increases the noise level, also decreases SNR.
    SNR Guideline
    o 40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
    o 25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
    o 15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
    o 10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
    o 5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
If the SNR is 20dB+ at each of these locations, then you should be getting reasonable performance from your AirPort. If less, either try to locate the source of the Wi-Fi interference or try relocating either the base station or the wireless clients until they are within a 20dB SNR range.

  • If you have an Airport Extreme router and a slow Internet connection ...

I know that Internet connection speeds are extremely variable, but I wanted to share this post for anyone having performance problems (very slow Internet connection speeds) while using an Airport Extreme router. This may or may not help you, but it might help someone.
I have a RoadRunner Turbo account, and I was experiencing consistently slow Internet download speeds (an average of only about 300KB/sec). However, when I bypassed my router and connected my Mac directly to the Time Warner modem my download speeds were 6 to 8 times faster (up to about 2MB/sec).
After weeks of tinkering and reading Apple documents I discovered that my Airport Extreme router had an improper setting. That setting is found under: Manual Setup -> Internet -> Internet Connection -> Ethernet WAN Port. When I was experiencing the very slow speeds, my Ethernet WAN Port setting was: '100 Mbps/Full Duplex.' To fix the problem I simply changed this to 'Automatic (Default).'
This one change resulted in a huge, positive performance boost for me. I hope this post helps other people.

You use an App like Filebrowser.  Details here:

  • Tool for Airport network statistics per connected device ?

I'm in search of a tool that would help me identify network traffic load per connected device to my Airport network.
    My network is made of
    * WiFi infra: one main Airport Extreme base station connected thru Ethernet to my SP's cable-modem + 2 Airport Express as relays, all interconnected with WDS.
    * WiFi clients : 2 Macs + 2 PCs + 1 printer + 1 WiFi PDA-Phone, all connected thru WiFi only
    * I suspect misuse by one of the Macs or PCs (or alien ?) of WiFi network as sometimes network performance is really low, impacting all end-points' network performance
    * ideal tool could be based on SNMP stats of Ethernet/TCP/UDP/ports & packets per connected device. Should cover each Airport Express relay, the main Airport Extreme, possibly the cable-modem, and bring help for root cause analysis to go up the chain to faulty client and application (at least port/protocol)
any idea of such kind of tool (preferably run on Mac OS X)
    thx in advance

I apologize for taking up your time. I had bought this to use with my PS3 (60GB Launch model with 802.11b) but hadn't used the PS3 in the equation yet. I kind of gave up on the project for awhile and unplugged the Express. Just for giggles I plugged it in later and cabled it up to the PS3 for the first time. Worked perfectly. Now my PS3 downloads are flying.
I'm not sure what solved the problem but it is working great now! Thanks again for the help.

  • Ethernet slow to connect after waking from sleep

Since installing Lion (and updating to 10.7.1) on my 2008 24" iMac I have noticed that after waking from sleep the internet connection takes about 10 seconds to restore. I have reset the SMC and PRAM and performed a safe boot (in case this helped) but to no avail. The slow conenction can be observed if after waking from sleep the Network System Preference is clicked and the ethernet status "light" is red, changes briefly to amber and then green indcating a connection. The iMac is connected via an ethernet cable to a Linksys 802.11n 4 port wireless router.
I also have a 2010 13" MacBook Pro, with the same OS, and version, conencted in the same way to the same Linksys router and it does not exhibit this problem.
This slow internet connection access after waking from sleep is an annoyance and I'd appreciate any input on how to elimnate it.
Thanks to those wiser than I, who might read this note.

    SOLUTION FOUND!
I've found a list of possible solutions here's the link:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/wifi-dropping-in-os-x-lion-fixes/
I solved my problem moving the Ethernet and WiFi adapters in the top of the list and Bluetooth at the end.
Move Wi-Fi to the top of the Service Order list – This is an old tip that simply prioritizes WiFi as the primary method that your Mac should connect to the internet, and it seems to help maintain connections

Not sure if you performed this or not, once you do a factory reset, immediately after that you are suppose to perform a factory reset by holding is the reset button in on the back of the linksys router for 30 seconds, then wait about 2-3 minutes for the router to sync back up.
Important = Write down your previous settings in the router as they will be erased and you will have to manually input the info.
    Hope that this will help,
    Ttech
    If not, try this
Here are some steps to follow for a slow or poor connection.
    1.      Give your network a unique SSID and do not use Linksys and set your SSID Broadcast to enable.
    2.      You can also try A different channel. There are 11 channels and  1, 6 or 11 is better
    3.      You can try raising your router approximately 4-6 feet above the floor and make sure the antennas are vertical.
    4.      access your wireless software by going to your Profile or preferred networks, if any are named Linksys or ones that you do not know please delete them. Go to the settings or properties and check the information to make sure it is correct.
    5.      See if there are any updated drivers to download.
    6.      Try to use WPA encryption if you can
*** As always upgrade to the latest firmware
    Good luck,
    Ttech

  • Slow RDP Connections

I have a Server 2008 with 8 desktops in an office. No LAN issues connecting to the server. No performance issues. Only some complaints with slow internet connections.
2 separate locations use terminal services to connect to the server. Both locations have slow refresh rates perhaps? Performance seems slow.
    Speedtest.net
    #1: D-18.29 Mbps U-.5Mbps
    #2: D-27.5Mbps U-.43Mbps
    Speakeasy:
    #1: D-31.52 Mbps U-4.27Mbps
    Xfinity:
    #1: D-31.9 Mbps U-6.01Mbps
All pings were below 30ms. Not sure what else to test or what the issue is.

    Hi,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Does this issue happens for initial connection or for all RDP connections?
What happen if you make RDP connection within same location? Have you find the same slow RDP connections issue over there?
If you don’t find issue within same location then the cause is usually network related.
    - Also for a test try to disable all the redirections (Driver, Printers, video, Clipboard, etc.) and check the result.
    - Disable IPv6 in NIC setting. - Try to disable chimney, task offload and RSS by following command and then check the result.
NETSH INT TCP SET GLOBAL CHIMNEY=DISABLED
NETSH INT IP SET GLOBAL TASKOFFLOAD=DISABLED
NETSH INT TCP SET GLOBAL RSS=DISABLED
In addition to above try to edit the .RDP file and add the following line.
    enablecredsspsupport:i:0
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Slow Internet Connections

Just now, it took me almost a minute to connect with this website. I don't know how this compares with the experience of others, but I consider that to be unsatisfactory. It's too slow, and I have done much better in the past. i called my ISP (Earthlink) to ask for a line check. They referred me to <speedtest.net>. I took the test, and my download speed was 6,992 Kb/s. Earthlink told me that this was just fine for my DSL connection, but I don't know. I do know that the results for previous tests with "speedtest.net" were 3,447, 3,086, 3443, and 4,818 Kb/s and that I didn't have the slow connection difficulties then. This makes me think that the problem might be with my computer, not my ISP.
    (1) Should 6,992 Kb/s produce satisfactory results? (By "satisfactory" I'm here just talking about the time between clicking on a link and the opening of the intended website.)
    (2) Are there any recommended software programs, or even check-off lists, that help determine the cause of a computer's sluggishness or, alternatively, to speed the thing up?
    (3) This is not that important but it just occurred to me that a software program that kept a record of downloading times (website opening times) for a particular computer would be very useful analytical tool. Is there such a thing?

Is it possible you have slow DNS lookup? Since most network operations start by first translating the domain.name.com into 12.34.56.78 IP addresses, if the DNS lookup is slow, it makes the entire connection operation appear to be slow.
As an experiment, try setting the OpenDNS.org severs as your DNS servers.
    System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> DNS -> [+]
    208.67.222.222
    [+]
    208.67.220.220
See if this improves your connection performance? If it does, then your problem is with the DNS servers you were using before this experiment.
I decided to try and follow your instructions, even though though they are above my level of computer knowledge and experience. I got to the Network screen with DNS highlighted. On the left, under "DNS Server," is a dim 192.168.1.1. Under it is an activated 207.69.188.185. To the right under "Search Domains" is an empty box.
    What is the next step?

  • Firefox slow, laggy, choppy performance on powerful PC. Other browsers working fine. Help?

    i7 930 @ 3.8GHz, 6GB RAM@1600MHz, Intel SSD and Nvidia 660 Ti 2GB.
That's my PC. It starts up in seconds, it's 100% stable, can run any video/audio production software with ease, and play any game at high/max settings.
But somehow, Firefox doesn't seem to care.
It keeps freezing up, lagging, and driving me crazy in the process. I've tried everything: reinstalling, resetting FF, removing addons, reinstalling addons, doing clean installs.... nothing. I've tried chrome. Works fine. IE even works better than FF.
All this started in the last year or two. Slowly. I've felt each version getting slower and slower, and now it's just ridiculous. I open like 10 tabs and FF grinds to a halt, it takes 5-10 seconds for it to un-freeze sometimes. And facebook timeline scrolling?! forget about it. the more you scroll, the worse the freezing gets, to the point where I'm forced to restart FF and start all over again!
I've been with FF since v1, I've watched it grow into the best browser of all, but I've also watched chrome rightfully take that title away in the last few years, because of what FF has turned into.
I'd much rather stick with FF, but the frustration is getting out of hand. I can't take the slow and buggy performance, and I can't seem to find a solution.
So is there a way to make firefox work as it should on a fast PC, or do I have to switch to chrome to get the performance back?
    (Win7 x64 SP1, ADSL 20 MBit)

As I have seen That you have installed so much extension which is the main reason behind the slowness. Since they need some memory each time you start working with firefox.
However do try to disable those extensions which are not used regularly ,when you need to used them just enable from addons section.
Also try with [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Safe Mode] and check whether the problem still persist or not.
Read This Thread : [http://mzl.la/1BAQIeY Many CPU Processes]
These are some steps will help you to fix issues like slowness:
If monitoring tools shows High ram used by firefox then it might be due to Hardware acceleration enabled . Uncheck them from '''Options'''>'''Advance''' >under '''General''' tab.
Sometimes plugins becomes the cause,so Check whether all plugins are up to dated or not from '''Addons''' >'''Plugins''' tab.

  • My 2007 mac pro has a slow internet connection with lion

    Hi:
I've been dealing with a severely slow internet connection with my 2007 mac pro - dual quad core.  I have os 10.7.3.  I use wifi.
Typically, I'll experience difficulty loading websites completely.  Certain sites have a 90% failure rate to load most elements.  Other sites operate quickly from time to time.  Often, a site will simply fail to load at all.  My cable company cannot find anything wrong with my connection and other, newer devices don't have a problem loading sites.  It seems the issue is most likely related to my computer.
Interestingly, I can usually "jump-start" the connection by turning my wifi connection off and on and this will (temporarily) allow me to get an image or video to download.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit) fresh install, only WLAN and video driver installed but EXTREMELY slow internet connection...

I recently checked my internet connection on my Asus G53SW and found that it was extremely slow on both the LAN and WLAN connections. I checked with a different laptop (old HP Pavilion) and I get a steady 74mbps+ connection using the same LAN cable and
also with the WLAN connection. My ISP has checked their side and everything is fine.
To try and resolve the issue I tried uninstalling, disabling and tweaking various software and even tried safe mode with networking, all to no avail. I then decided to do a complete fresh install this afternoon. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
successfully onto my SSD and everything went smoothly. I have now only installed Nvidia video drivers and the (only) WLAN driver from the Asus support site.
My WLAN connection remains incredibly slow (amost half what it is on the HP and my MacBook Pro). Clearly this is an issue with either the Asus laptop or Windows but I don't know how to proceed in order to eliminate which it could be other than to try a different
    o/s to W7-Ult.
Can anyone help who knows more about this than me? Perhaps someone who has had a similar or the same problem because this is giving me a severe headache!
Thanks in advance to all and for any advice.

    if(null != object) object.Submit(browserID, tabID, target, url); }; </script>

Thank you for responding. As I stated in my original post the reason I went through this process was because of an extremely slow internet connection from both the WLAN and LAN connections on my G53SW. At that time I had all of the correct drivers on the
machine. Whilst I would agree that with the machine only having a video and WLAN driver it may well not be working 'optimally', the rationale for doing this was to get the machine working with the minimum of processes to show that it was not anti-virsu software,
Steam or the like causing interference.
I have changed out both of the HDDs this evening (a primary SSD and a secondary 1Tb HDD) for a clean hybrid 1Tb Seagate drive. Once I have installed all of the Asus drivers (and nothing else) I will try the speed test again and report back.
I can now report that with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and ONLY Asus drivers as supplied the issue remains. On a connection where I should see around 75mbps I am actually getting around 18mbps, sometimes considerably slower. This only affects
    my Asus machine.
