CT04 - Changing characteristic Value Check procedure

Hi,
I want to change the value check validation for a an existing material characteristic from from the allowed values list to a chaeck table. I intende on on using the 'Other Value Check' button in the Values tab of CT04, but unfortunately this button is greyed out.
I would like to know if it is possible to start using a check table for an existing material characteriestic, and if so how?

Hi Roy,
The only way I've managed to do this was to delete and re-create the characteristic. It gets complicated as SAP wants you to remove all entries for the characteristic before deleting it which means you need someone able to do the LSMWs to remove then re-load the data once you've re-created the characteristic.

It is always better to make the changes in Development client and ALE the characteristics and Class through BD91 and BD92, in this way you can make sure that there is no inconsistency in the values in different clients.
If the characteristics values are already assigned to some objects, you wont be able to delete or make changes to those values..you have to delete the assignments first and then change the values in CT04.

BI-IP change characteristic value in FOX

Hello Guys,
i want to change the characteristic value in FOX.
Therefore the FOX runs through all char combinations to identify the highest
number for the char test.
This step works fine, but i cant write the value for maxloop in the cube.
If i try, only the old row is deleted, but i dont get a new row with the calculated value for maxloop.
the code looks like this:

But as per the statement MAXLOOP = MAXLOOP + 00001 the MAXLOOP conatins a new figure. Obviously there will not be any record in the cube for this value of MAXLOOP.
You are assigning this to the record with MAXLOOP = 00200, so system is assigning zero to 0AMOUNT for the record that is having MAXLOOP=00200 value.
Make the below corrections and test again:

Change characteristic values in SO via BAPI_SALESORDER_CHANGEBOS

Now, I would like to update the characteristic values of configuration in sales order via BAPI : BAPI_SALESORDER_CHANGEBOS. But, I can't find right way to execute this BAPI. I tried so many times and no data changed. I wonder that i didn't specify the correct import parameters.

I had a similar kind of requirment, to change the characteristic values in a sales contract, where I used, BAPISDORDER_GETDETAILEDLIST to get the details of the agreement line iteam and after sorting the necessary vales then used BAPI: BAPI_CUSTOMERCONTRACT_CHANGE to change the customer agreement line item.
In your case as well you can use the BAPISDORDER_GETDETAILEDLIST to get the details, based on this you write logic to hold the necessary change value and finally, use BAPI: BAPI_SALESORDER_CHANGE to updated the changes in the sales order.

Lock characteristic value for configurable material in Sales Order

Is there a setting in SAP which can prevent user changing characteristic value for configurable material in Sales Order after production order created for this Sales Order? Currently, it can only works when first delivery create for this Sales Order.

in the characteristic goto additional data tab,
you have a field called not ready for input.
you select this when the value in this characteristic come by calculation based on the previous selection.
that field will be greyed out.
OR
u can even select the no display check box,
by selecting this u cant see the characteristic in the list,, it will give u a popup before leaving the screen.
for this the char has to be a required field.
OR
if any of this is not working then may be u can try out with authorization management.

Characteristic values and CT04

Hi all,
I have a user that wants to store default values for certain fields in the characteristics of a class. For instance, I create a material...if the characteristic GR_PR_TIME is 5...then assign 5 to the GR PR Time field for the material. Problem is when the user goes to CT04 to change the characteristic value. As soon as the user deletes the old value they are prompted that the value is already associated with a material and as such should not be deleted. How do I work around that? I suggested multiple allowed characteristic values with one marked as default but my user doesn't like that suggestion. What am I missing here? Should this not be a class based solution?

Check if you can use material and material groups or product and product Info objects in BW. If they suit, just assign the data source that you cerated in R/3 to these info sources and that is it.

BI-IP: Change of characteristic value in ABAP EXIT planning function

I have created a planning function of the type EXIT with reference data without blocks. In method IF_RSPLFA_SRVTYPE_IMP_EXEC_REF~EXECUTE I am going to implement my code.
Now, one of the purposes is to update the VALIDTO of an existing record. Is it possible to modify the characteristic values directly in C_TH_DATA (thus allowing me to just update the date directly on the record) or can I only append records?

Yes you can change directly your value in a record withou appending a new one,but still it will create 2 records in the delta buffer ready to be save to the cube.

Apex 4.0: Change the Search Field to a Multi Value Check Box IR

I am new here, but hoping to be active :)
Well, now I am focusing on Apex 4 and I find really new things here. And even new order to develope needs time to get used.
Still, I am trying to change the Search Field to a Multi Value Check Box in IR. I have found how to make it in Apex version 3, but not at 4 any more.
Tutorials for apex v.3 write:
1.Click Edit Page 1 on the Developer toolbar.
The Page Definition for page 1 appears.
2. Under Items, click P1_REPORT_SEARCH.
3. From Display As, select Checkbox ans so on...
But I do not find any word "Items" in IR and especially P1_REPORT_SEARCH (I assume this should be by default). Under "Report Atributes" I find "Search bar" region, just there is no option for that. Is here any way to make search with checkboxes in v4?

Tutorial you have check for APEX 3.x probably works still in APEX 4.x if you use classic report.
As I understand you have now create interactive report that provide out of box search features.
There is no option to change IR search text field to multi select item.
What you can do with IR, is hide/disable search field.
Then you create multi select item and use it in report query where clause.

Updating a characteristic value (CT04)

I have created a new class with corresponding characteristic. My characteristic has a single value, "01" representing document version number. I the MM, i add this new class to the Classification view for the appropriate material number. However, i have noticed that when we go to update the value in the characteristic, from lets say "01" to "02", we first get an error saying the value cannot be deleted (but the system lets us do this anyway) but more importantly when we do change the value, our hope was that the value in the MM class would automatically be updated as well. That doesnt seem to be the case as I have to physically go into the MM record and delete the class, then re-add it with the new updated value for the update to appear in the MM record as well as AUSP. This is my first time dealing with classifications/classes. Can someone give me guidance on how to achieve something more easily maintained?

In the CLMM transaction, select "Set and Change Values".
In the next screen, enter in 001 for material class in the class type field. Then add the characteristics you wish to change on the tab labelled "Chars". You can just add a new value to change all instances or you can specify an old value to change and only those with matching values will be changed.
Now click on the "Target Objs" tab. Enter in the material numbers you want to change. Click on the indicator "Overwrite Existing Values" to replace values, leave it blank if you are adding new values for a characteristic that allows multiple values.
On the menu bar is a button labelled "Test". Click on this to do a test run and see the log that is generated. When you have all the right selections, and the log looks correct, click on the button to the left of the Test button to execute the changes.
You can also use this to mass change assignments in certain classes. On the first screen, the first choice "Copy Values assigned to object" allow you copy the values from one object to another.. say for instance all the material class values from material A to Material A, B and C.
The third choice is "Assign value in matrix". This is very cool as it gives you a spread sheet form with the all the objects, (materials), listed vertically, and all the characteristics listed across. You can see the current values, and manually change any of the ones you want to.
This can be a very powerful transaction. It should be limited to only a handful of people

Change Column Value based on Characteristic in Rows

I am not sure it is possible.
We have product prices at different levels of customer hierarchy.
Channel > Division > Region > Market
One Region can have multiple Markets. Each market can have different Rates. But the Region will have a different Rate which many not be the average rate of all market (assigned as part of master data)
I have a column for Product Price. So when a Report is run at Market Level it should use Market Rate. If Market is Removed and Region is dragged into the report it should use Region Rate for Product Price.
Product Price is Restricted by Rate Type value to determine which Rate is used.
Is there a way to dynamically determine the define the column value based on the characteristic value in the ROWS.

Hi,
For every CHAR like Market/Region there will be some key. For example Maket1 = 11 and Market2 = 22. If that key is a number then you may create replacement path variable on that and convert the same in numbers then you may create various CKF (for various rate type) and put "If" condtion and check for those replacement path CKF and use the apprpriate one.
You need to write some tricky formula at CKF levels. This is one of the way to achieve that.

exception as it might fail if the table doesn't exist.Which might take quite a time if the table is big! If you really want to do that I'd use SELECT * FROM table WHERE 1=2
A better way is, to ask the DatabaseMetadata object to retrieve information about the table...
