CTS Mgmt in SolMan for an Implementation Project?

Hi,
In an Implementation Project, if we need to use Solution Manager for CTS, is there any pre-requisites?
To be more clear, the project is still in the development stage and has not gone-live. The SolMan project type will be "Implementation" project(not a maintenance project). In this scenario, how the development/customization request will be moved across the landscape?
What are the steps to be followed?
Any inputs in this regard will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance.
best regds,
Alagammai.

Hi Avinash,
Again thanks a lot for your timely help.
So, all transports relating to an implementation project can be moved using the CHARM feature of SolMan. Nice )
(ii) Whenever I create Implementation or Maintenace project in my SolMan system, I am not finding this "Change Request" tab under "System Landscape" tab. What could be the problem? Is that becos CHARM is not configured in my system?
(iii) As you told while we create the transport route in the satellite systems, do we do it in the regular way? Or is there any modifications need to be done as we have to use it with CHARM? (sorry, might seem to be a silly question... but, as I am not aware of it...)
(iv) Also, you have listed a number of steps to be done. Are these steps to be done in the SolMan system?
(v) Is there any link or document describing this process? Do you have any document of your own? If so, can you pls send the same to my email id [email protected]?
Thanks & Best regds,
Alagammai.

  • How do SolMan identify development for which implementation project

    Hello SolMan Experts,
I have the option to create many Implementation project for the same landscape and more than one Development(Implementation) Change Requests. My doubt here is how SolMan identifies for which implementation project, the Change request development should be created?
    Please advise
    Thanks
    Farzan

    Hi Farzan,
I am not deep into ChaRM; does it not work on the premise of 'IMG Projects' in the respective satellite systems ?
If so, your two implementation proejcts will in turn, lead to two IMG projects in those satellite systems and thus, ChaRM can keep a track as to which CTS falls under which IMG Project.
Please let me know if this is the case. I'll get back if I have a more definitive answer.

  • Solution Directory - How to lock a business process for a implement project

We have Solution Directory assigned to a maintenance project and I understand the checkout/checkin process and how it locks the business process in the Solution.   What is the best practice when  you are starting a new IMPLEMENTATION project that will impact existing business processes that are in the Solution?  I know that I can copy from the solution to build the new project, but it doesnu2019t lock the BP from the solution.
I have a new Implementation project, that i want to checkout/pull existing business processes for the Solution Directory.
*How can these Business Processes be "locked" in Solution Directory as they are with a Maintenance project?*

    Kelly,
You would use the maintenance project to make daily modifications.
Consider the case of a O2C business scenario. You need to almost make daily configs etc, which get pushed through, such things will go into a maintenance project.
But if you plan to enhance O2C with a CRM front end or include a better planning solution or TPM or something, then you are looking at an implementation project.
Rule of thumb. Short Scale changes : Maintenance Project, Long term/major enhancements : Implementation Projects.
Also In this case to speak about the lock down. Well the Solution Directory kind of takes care of that for you.
I am assuming that you have a solution populated with business processes. So now if you want to enhance it with a new functionality, you would use an implementation project. So when you define the implementation project, and then navigate to Solar01, and try to add business scenarios , ensure that on the Structure tab you select the Solution as the source. This ensures you are copying content from your current, updated, productive solution. Once you do that, the implementation continues on its track, whilst daily support processes are managed with the check-in / check-out functionality of the Solution and the Maintenance Project.
You technically do not need to lock the business processes down, since the Compare and Adjust functionality of a solution will help you identify the deltas  between the Solution and the implementation project and you can always make those adjustments post go-live and thus just update the Solution at one shot. Also remember that with SolMan 7.1 the Compare and Adjust functions can be used with Template, Implementation and Solutions in any permutation-combination.
    Hope this helps.
Plz let me know if you need any additional information
    Cheers!!

  • Need urgent help in listing out checklist from DBA prespective for BI Implementation Project

    Hello Guys,
We are in Designing phase Data Modeling of PDW/APS Implementation Project.
I need urgent help in making a checklist from a DBA perspective.
Like what are things ill be needing at a time of implementation/Deployment.
Your expert comments and help will be highly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Anish.S
    Asandeen

You can get good summary of checklist from this article about
    DBA checklist for data warehousing.
    Which highlights on below pointers:
New system or old. (I.e. Up-gradation vs starting from scratch)
    Complexity of SQL Server architecture
    SQL Server storage
    Determining SQL Server processing power
    SQL Server installation consideration
    SQL Server configuration parameter
    SQL Server security
    SQL Server Database property
    SQL Server jobs and automation
    Protecting SQL Server data
SQL Server health monitoring and check ups
    SQL Server ownership and control
based on my real time experience, I will suggest you to keep an eye on
Load performance (It will be useful when your database(Warehouse) will have huge amount of data)
System availability (Check for Windows update and up time configuration)
Deployment methodology should be planned in advance. Development of packages and respective objects should be done systematically.
    Source control mechanism
    Disk space and memory usage
You might or might not have full rights on production environment, so be prepared to analyze production environment via Select statements [I guess you got my point]
Proper implementation of Landing , Staging and Mart tables.
Column size (this can drastically decrease your database size)
Usage of indexes (Index are good, but at what cost?)
I hope this will assist you in building your check list.

    pooja

    Hi
If you will  see the phases of implementation in a SAp project like
    Project preparetion
    BBP(Business Blue print)
    Realisation(Base level configuartion,unit testing,iNtegration testing)
    Go live and support.
During BBP stage you have to study the existing process of the client and suggest how it will be mapped in SAP.And the process which can not be mapped in SAP will be treated as GAP and may be solved through out side software or through ABAP development.
Finalisining the Enterprise structure. The mapping of the org stru in legacy to SAP to be done here.Since for company thwo important statement are prepared at the yearend like B& S & p&l.These two statments can not prepared unless company code is mapped and assigned to other logistic structure.
Integration testing is another important milestone in an implementation. In  this stage you have to see that the FI  T code is not only working stand alone but it also works in an integrated scenario.
These are some of the scenario, where you have to contribute as a FICO consultant. Since the data flows from other modules of SAP to FI module ,  you should take care for that

    Hi
AS IS process mapping is documentation of your maintenance process/system by a team who have a good domain experience of the company. In the process of documentaion the team need to interact with process owners/users with simple questions like how they peroform various functions & regarding any computerised system if they use it. Some of the requirements we had put in our scope as follows
    A     Preventive (Time-Based) Maintenance
1     Ability to assign / suggest / change frequency for preventive maintenance jobs as per user requirement, equipment history and operation duty cycle
2     Ability to generate time based job schedule u2013 daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, half yearly, yearly
3     Ability to incorporate pending jobs in the schedule
4     Ability to do job prioritisation
5     Ability to raise and transmit job requisition for centralised agencies based on user confirmation
6     Ability to provide information regarding resource requirement (man power, tools, tackles, stores & spares, support from centralised agencies) for preventive maintenance of a particular equipment
7     Ability to plan shut down for preventive maintenance of a equipment
8     Ability to provide job wise Standard maintenance procedure for equipments along with job list
9     Ability to capture / display details of job compliance feedback
10     Ability to allocate jobs to different working groups
11     Ability to align shop shutdowns with job schedule

    Hi All,
I am working on an RFP and need to give effort estimates related to SD module. I need guidance for you experts in this case.
The RFP is from an Indian client. The SD implementaion looks preety vanilla stuff as they have not mentioned any sales and distribution process in the RFP.
I have checked the forums but could not get any comprehensive posts.

    Hi Kapil,
Thanks.. We have put the querries to client for the processess.
But still can you let me know for a normal sakes process related config what would be the efforts? Just to get the hang of efforts.

  • Solution Manager for Implementation project

    Hello,
I want to know how we should use solution manager for an implementation project. I am aware about the ASAP methods and the transactions in solman system for each phase. I have starting trouble like how to and where to start with? My ECC systems are not yet installed. Still we can go ahead with Blueprint creation and definition of roadmaps etc. Currently, it is done on paper.  If anybody has done an implementation project through solution manager, could you please give me some hints how to start ? I repeat I am aware of the transactions but dont know what to add there in solar01/02 when the process are not defined/system not installed. Please guide me.
    Rajeev

    Hi Rajeev,
You're correct; you can start building the Business Blueprint without SMSY having all the systems that are 'to-be'. As long as you enter logical components in the project landscape with the correct product versions, you can replace those with the actual components once they have been installed. The BPR needs those product versions in the blueprint when you load the relevant scenario's. Once loaded, you can start documenting the scenario's, place the processes and process steps not used out of scope or delete them entirely and define custom scenario's, processes and process steps.
When the Blueprint has been completed with relevant design documentation, the Configuration transaction can be used to document how you actually configure the systems and, of course, to configure them from Solution Manager. The system landscape officially has to be definitive at the end of the Blueprint phase, unless you won't be configuring the systems centrally from Solution Manager.
The Solution is actually not necessary for a clean implementation; the Project will eventually lead to the solution. Once the systems are all configured and documented in SSM, you create the Solution and upload the project documentation into it in the Solution Directory.
Let us know how you get on!
    Kind regards,
    Patrick

  • CHARM- No task list found for implementation project

    Hi All,
I created an implementation project, and created a task list for the implementation project.
But when i create a change request with normal correction, The Task list is not getting displayed.
I am facing a conflict also, When i directly create a correction document without creating a change request. I am getting the task list for implementation project.
Why is it am getting the task list for Implementation project in correction document and not in change request.
When i tried to explore. found that in change request it is getting the list of maintenance cycles(Maintenance projects) and not the tasklist for other type of projects.
Our customized flows are all dependent on the change request. So Is there any configuration i can do to get the task list of implementation project also in the list.
    Kindly guide on this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Subhashini.

    Hi Xavier,
I  was also checking that one only.
For the standard transaction type SDCR, it is working perfectly as you toldh when i select development(Implementation).
But the problem is, here we have customized SDCR to ZDCR with our follow up documents.
When i try to include the Code group of implementation(Implmntn), Nothing is happening.
The subject is getting included in the list. but iam getting only the list of maintenance project only.
I have made the changes in copy nsontrol also. but i dont see any difference.
I could not able to trace where exactly i need to do the customizing to bring the list of implementation projects in my change request(ZDCR) when i select the subject( Project-implementation(SDMI))
    Kindly advice.
    Regards,
    Subhashini.

  • Adjust changes in Implementation Project  back to Template Project

    Hello All,
Please can you help with transaction SA_PROJECT_UPGRADE, the case is as follow:
    STEP 1
    - Template project is created including process structure and documents, template is activated
    - Implementation project: is created derived from template project.
    - In Template project: Change in pocess node made: added an new process node
    - Run SA_PROJECT_UPGRADE with checked box "New Version of Original" and chosen project: Implementation project
    - Implementation project:  the yellow boxes appears on the appropriate place and button "adjust to original" is used.
    So far, so good
    STEP 2
    - Implementation project: a new process node is added, project is saved
    - Run SA_PROJECT_UPGRADE with checked box "'Current Version in Project" and chosen project: Implementation project
    - Template project: no changes are visible in SOLAR01 or SOLAR02
    - In SOLAR01: settings -> User specific -> box checked "Dislay changes made in project"
    So far, NOT good.
    Resume:
    - using transaction SA_PROJECT_UPGRADE from Template -> Implementation Project works according documentation
    - using transaction SA_PROJECT_UPGRADE from Implementation Project -> Templates does not work according documentation
    Does anybody recognise this?
    Or do I oversee something?
System: SSM 4.0 updated to SP13
    Thanks in advance
    Rutger Koppelaar

Hi Rutger (& all others watching this thread),
I would like to make certain corrections to one of the points posted by me:
    2) Within a Template Project, any actual changes to the document does not offer itself as a 'change' while doing comparison on Implementation Project. In other words, after a given Scenario and all its associated documentation are copied into an Implementation project, if a given document at a given node needs to be edited, it's better to create a new document and upload it in Template Project than to open & change the same document. If the same document is edited, the Compare and Adjust cannot see that as 'difference'.
On the above point, I have now see better/different results with my recent work; not sure if this is version/ support package specific.
    Environment:
    SolMan 4.0
    SAP_BASIS - Release 700 Level 0013
    SAP_ABA - Release 700 Level 0013
    ST - Release 400 Level 0014
Assumption: Both the Template and Implementation Projects are in the same SolMan instance and not a case where the Template is being transported into another instance!
Findings (please bear with this verbose description; one day I intend creating a Blog instead, to list all these points):
    (1) In General Documentation Tab of Template Project, any changes made is instantly visible in General Documentation Tab of the Implementation project - not even dependent on running SA_PROJECT_UPGRADE transaction
If you indeed run this transaction - in foreground or background, and later check the Implementation Project, it would not highlight that node as having undergone any change. However, if you double click the document itself, you'd be pleasantly surprosed that it opens the most updated version you maintained in the Template Project. No need for 'Compare and Adjust'.
    (2) In Test Cases Tab - any change you make to Test Document in Template Project is again instantly available for the Implementation Project that had inherited the document, provided no manual changes were done to that document in the Implementaiton Project directly. Again, no need to run SA_PROJECT_UPGRADE transaction or the subsequent 'Compare and Adjust' function
2a) If, however, the Test Document was altered in Implementation Project subsequently, the chain gets broken (in my understanding so far), and any subsequent changes made in Template Project does not become 'instantly' visible in Implementation Project - the two behave as though they are different documents
In such a case, if you desire to 'restore' the supremacy of Template Project's contents, run SA_PROJECT_UPGRADE transaction, and after the background job finishes, visit Implementation Project concerned. The node where the Documents differ is not highlighted (unfortunately).  However, if you are aware of that node, and hit  'Compare and Adjust' button the ensuing Window does tell you with a # sign on the right hand panel that the Document has indeed changed in the original. You can 'adjust' that and save.
Once this is done, and also you vow to not change the document in Implementation Project directly, the link between the two is kind of re-established. Any subsequent alterations you make in the Test Case at Template Project would be instantly visible from Implementation Project, as before !
I have tried to explain precisely what I experiemented and found. I hope this works consistently
The ways in which Document linkages are established and pointers to KW object IDs work is rather inscrutable for me, without ABAP support.
I'll update any further findings here.
    Please keep a watch.
    Thanks and regards,
    Srini

  • Not able to see General Documentation in Implementation Project

    Hi All,
I've created one Template Project and one Implementation Project. Now I've added some documents to Template Project - General Documentation Tab. Ideally this newly added documents should be appeared in Implementation Project - General Tab. But in my case I am not able to see this newly added documents. Is there any reason behind this? What should I do to make them visible in Implementation Proj - General Documentation tab?
Another question is, If a document from Project Documentation tab is deleted by pressing 'Delete Row' button (not actual 'Delete' button), how can I retrieve that document? How can I see the list of all deleted documents?
    Thanks in advance!

    Edited by: shaun99 on Feb 16, 2012 4:28 PM

    Hi Shaun,
For the implementation project, please read the session  "USING THE TEMPLATES" in the wiki page for template projects, where it explains how to update your project with the changes made in the template project.
regarding the download, I'm not aware of any easy way to do mass download of the documents. Maybe in SI80 you could do such thing but I believe you would only be able to filter by the folder where the documents are phisically stored and as you're using a template project, all the documents are stored in the folder SOLAR00, shared along with solutions and etc..
more info about this in the wiki page for documents in solar01 and solar02:

  • Re: Roles of  ABAPER in implementation project

    HI experts,
What s the Roles of  ABAPER in implementation project?and responsibilities in support project?

<b>IMPLEMENTATION </b>:This is project in which we implement sap for a company from scratch right from creating tables and data for the first time..writing code for the first time etc.
<b>SUPPORT</b> : this is the kind of project where SAP has been already implemented but due to some additional business requirement or any thing like small problems in general they hire a team who work for them to solve the small issues.its also called issue based project.
It depends on the Volume of the company and how many company codes and Plants it have and for how many it has to be implemented
There are different types of Projects in SAP:
    1. <u>Implementation</u>
Customer wants to install SAP/Include different modules of SAP viz. MM/SD/FI/CO/PP etc for the first time.Previously he might be using some legacy system in his orgn. This is implementation project. Here one needs to integrate several modules, migrate data from Legacy system to SAP system. Need to prepare interfaces/RFC's to interact with 3rd party systems.
Most of the company's follow ASAP methodology for the Implementation projects
there are 5 stages in the ASAP methodology
    they are
    1. Project Initial Preparation
    2.Business Blueprint
    3.Realization
    4/ Final Preparation
    5.Golive And Support
ABAP work mostly starts in the Blue print ending stage or in the realization stage
    2. <u>Support</u>
Customer has already installed SAP & wants to give the work of maintaining those systems. This is support project
There is no phases in it. Just receive the tickets, solve and send back to client.
    3. <u>Upgrade</u>
Customer has SAP Version 4.6b and wants to update his version i.e. wants to go to Version 4.7. This is upgrade project
    4. <u>Rollouts</u>
Customer has upgraded his version & wants to rollout country specific changes.
    This is rollout project
Say a company is having branches in 3 to 4 countries.
In One country they have already implemented SAP
IF they wants to implement the same SAP in other countries of their branches they will simply follow the same SAP implementation policy (Rollout) how they have done for the first country just by changing the country specific settings and configurations.

  • Copying Implementation Projects

I understand that the process for creating implementation projects is to copy from a template project. However, is it possible to make an identical copy of (not transport) an existing implementation project and all of its attached documentation without doing a client copy? If so, how?
    Thank you,
    Megan

    Hi Megan,
you can copy a complete project via the project administration transaction (solar_project_admin). Select a project from the list and use the menu path "Project --> Copy". You will receive project copy screen in which you can select the copy options.

  • Right now which tax procedure is suitable for indian implementations

    hi,
    sap gurus,
can any body suggest me exactly that right now which tax
procedure is suitable for indian implementation projects.
    or
right now all companies are trying to implement which type of
tax procedures out of TAXINN AND TAXINJ.
    plz suggest excatly
    regards,
    balaji.t

    hi,
The main difference is, TAXINN is Condition Based Tax Procedure while TAXINJ is Formula based.
In Tax Procedure (TAXINJ) we have to maintain Tax Codes through FTXP while in case of TAXINN we just need to maintain the condition records.
TAXINN is being used more becuase this Procedure it is more flexible as you can change the condition record any time while in case of TAXINJ if want to make a change in tax then you will have to make the changes in FTXP that is master data.
