Cue points - listener vs event?

I'm a little over my head here...
I have a movie that loads an external flv. In the flv I have
a cue point at
the very end to mark the end of the movie. Once the flv is
done playing,
I'd like to advance to the next frame.
There are a few posts here and there and I'm not sure if I'd
be better
testing for the end cue point with a listener or if it could
be an event.
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm using Flash 8 Pro/PC

Cue points are events, no matter how you handle them. There
are three
basic categeories of object functionality: properties
(characteristics),
methods (things the object can do), and events (things the
object can react
to). An "end" cuepoint is something your video object reacts
to, so it's an
event. How you *handle* (that is, manage) this event depends
on how the
object was written. Some objects, such as Button, TextField,
and MovieClip
instances require event handlers. Some require event
listeners.
I blogged on this just the other day, so for what it's
worth, take a
look here ...

Hope that helps.

  • Using cue points to trigger events on the main timeline...

    Hi--
    I have successfully placed an flv (video) file (progressive
    download) on the main timeline of my movie with controls to play
    and pause (Flash 8 Professional). So far, so good!
    NOW TWO PROBLEMS: Does anyone know how to set it up so that
    when a specific cue point is reached in the video, it triggers an
    action on the main timeline? In this case, once the video is over,
    I want the main timeline to gotoAndPlay frame 3. Specific script to
    do this would be great!
    The other action I'd like to happen is that when the video
    begins, it targets a scrolling text mc ("text") in the main
    timeline and tells it to gotoAndPlay frame 2.
    Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Many
    thanks!!!

    I usually start off solving problems with the livedocs, as I
    recommend for anyone. The following link will take you to the
    NetStream.onCuePoint handler. This is what you need.
    http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flash/8/main/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context= LiveDocs_Parts&file=00002561.html
    You can have this code on the main timeline. When the
    cuepoint is hit, it will invoke this event handler and inside is
    where your gotoAndPlay( ) should go.
    Your other question about the text will get activated by the
    same handler. Just have a conditional statement (if, switch, etc.)
    to differentiate between the two events. The text itself can be
    mask inside a movieclip.
    Does this help?

  • Event Cue Points

    I am working with event cue points and I have it working with
    action script and embedded cue points. What I am trying to figure
    out is how to tie a specific events or movie clip with specific cue
    points. Right now all the movie clips play whenever I hit any cue
    point. I have not figured out how to tie specific cue points with
    specific events. Anyone have knowledge of this that can direct me
    properly. I would highly appreciate it. Thanks

    First of all thanks for the reply. I didn't explain myself
    well. I know about the stop frame on the first frame. My cue points
    are working. I want to be able to play different movies cued up at
    different times in the video. Right now all my movie clips play at
    all the cue points. I want a specific movie to play at a specific
    cue point then later in the video another different clip play at a
    difffent time element in the movie. Thanks. I really appreciate the
    help.

  • Adding cue points to NetStream

    Hello I have been working on a project and have loaded videos using netstream.  I have several cue points that advance the timeline to a certain keyframe.  Would anyone have the script for NetStream that would do this, for example, when the video reaches cue1 it would advance the timeline to frame 10?
    Thank you so much for your help.
    mark.

    Since no one has yet posted on this, I'll re-post part of a response to another post which deals specifically with using cue points with a NetStream video player:
    OK, here is a working NetStream cue point:
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    video_screen.attachVideo(ns);
    /* Name of your video, with correct path, goes here */
    ns.play("my_video.flv");
    ns.onCuePoint = function(evt:Object){
        trace(evt.name);
        trace(evt.time);
        if(evt.name == "jump_100") {
            trace("YO !Jump to 100!");
            gotoAndStop(100);
    Reading this code:
    set a new variable "ns" which is a new NetStream
    attach a video to "video_screen"... the instance name of the video on the stage
    now use that variable "ns" to play a video with file name "my_video.flv"
    use ns to listen for an "event" type cue point Object
    when the cue point is detected trace the event name and time
    if the event name is exactly equal to "jump_100"
    then trace "YO !Jump to 100!"
    and then gotoAndStop at frame 100
    For this exact code to work, your NetStream variable must be named "ns"
    In the video you play, there must be a cue point of the "Event" type with the name "jump_100"
    There must be at least 100 frames in the timeline.
    Take it in small steps;
    First make sure you can play the video using NetStream ... that's all.
    Next, add the trace to detect the cue point... if you can't detect it, of course it won't do anything.
    Only after you can successfully play the video and detect the cue point, should you attempt the cue point action (jump to frame 100).
    You can also add more "if" statements if there are multiple cue points.
    If cue point 1, then do this.
    If cue point 2, then do this.... etc.
    Best wishes,
    Adninjastrator

  • Cue Point Navigation

    I will preface this all by saying I am very new to the whole
    idea of using code for anything (I have problems programming my
    watering system at home and it's got buttons) and I could sure use
    some help from people in the know.
    I'm working on an FLA that has 7 talking head videos
    w/PowerPoint slides as pngs from a medical conference.
    I'm trying to get slides to synchronize with embedded
    navigation cue points in the video. All the code I entered so far
    was based on the Adobe article "Controlling Flash video with
    FLVPlayback programming-Cue point event handling" and I used the
    code example provided. When I exported the movie all I get is a
    flickering flv icon on the screen and the following error message:
    line 1 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time
    constant: MetadataEvent.
    Attach Code
    function cuePointHandler(event:MetadataEvent):void
    trace("name = "+event.info.name);
    trace("time = "+event.info.time);
    // Go to a frame label with the cue point name
    gotoAndStop(event.info.name);
    flvControl.addEventListener(MetadataEvent.CUE_POINT,
    cuePointHandler)

    before the function add the following line:
    import fl.video.MetadataEvent;

  • Set cue point problem

    In csc5.5, with flvplayback select onthe stage,
    I can't switch cue point between  "navigation",  "event" "ationscript",
    the only cue that I can insert is "actionscript", why?
    I need to set to "navigation".
    Can you help me?
    Thank you.

    We have the following three situations 1, 2 3.
    In a help there was the possibility of chenge cue pointi through the properties panel (maybe image 2 below), perhaps no longer available in last versions (3 below). Is this right?
    Or is it still possible to change through the panel?

  • Premiere, Media Encoder and Flash Cue Points - bug?

    I've been encoding a number of FLV On2 VP6 videos recently and using the new Media Encoder. For this project we need flash cue points (nav and event). I've discovered some weird things in Media Encoder - it's been duplicating cue points (or maybe the export from Premiere is buggy with cue points?).
    I've seen the first couple of cue points getting duplicated with the first letter of the name capitalised and moved a frame on in time - very weird.
    Anyone else seen this behaviour?
    Paul.

    OK, I think I've found out why - not a bug - user misunderstanding!!!  (although tricky to find!)
    Some of my source footage was created in After Effects. It turns out that there were a couple of cue points in the AE comp that had similar names to the cue points in Premiere - the AE comp was saved out to an AVI (with metadata enabled I think).
    Premiere wasn't seeing this metadata and the cue points, but Media Encoder was (and it couldn't be deleted in ME - just kept coming back).
    So - moral of the story - be careful with metadata!!!
    I guess that Premiere should really show this embedded data though?
    Paul.

  • Can you link flash buttons to a embedded cue point

    I have a video that I exported to flv with 10 embedded
    navigation cue points. I also have 10 buttons in a flash file that
    I would like to link to those cue points. I can't find any info on
    how to do that. I see info on making a cue point make a event
    happen, but nothing on linking a button to a cue point. Basically
    I'm looking for the same interaction as a DVD were the user clicks
    on a chapter they want and the video goes to it.

    There are players that will play a swf with volume mute stop start that sort of thing I downloaded one a couple of years ago  I don't recall where I got it.

  • Need help with embedded cue points in FLV please (quickly/ :-))

    Here is my scenario - I have a flv streaming in a swf. All I
    want to do is to is call the cuepoint (event) in the flv, so that
    it will go to and play somewhere else further down the timeline of
    the swf - I don't think it should require much AS, but I haven't
    done much communication of this sort between an flv and it's parent
    swf. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    I figured it out. If anyone is interested, this the code snippet I found in Adobes help that allows you to access cue points and trigger events on flv's brought in with netstream:
    function onCuePoint(infoObject:Object):void
    trace("onCuePoint:");
    for (var propName:String in infoObject) {
    if (propName != "Run")
    RunCuePoint.visible=true
    else
    trace("parameters =");
    if (infoObject.parameters != undefined) {
    for (var paramName:String in infoObject.parameters)
    trace(" " + paramName + ": " + infoObject.parameters[paramName]);

  • Listening for cue points?

    I keep getting error messages and don't know why?
    I am trying to listen for cue point. What am I doing wrong?
    Also, do I really need to have the NET_STATUS listener attached to both the NetConnection and NetStream?
    Thanks a lot for any help!!!
    var myVideo:Video = new Video();
    addChild(myVideo);
    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    nc.connect(null);
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    myVideo.attachNetStream(ns);
    ns.play("myVid.flv");
    nc.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatusHandler);
    ns.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatusHandler);
    ns.addEventListener(AsyncErrorEvent.ASYNC_ERROR, asyncErrorHandler);
    ns.addEventListener(MetadataEvent.CUE_POINT, cuePointHandler);
    function cuePointHandler(infoObject:MetadataEvent):void
         trace("cuePoint from cuePointHandler");
         trace("Cue point name is: " + eventObject.info.name);
         trace("Cue point type is: " + eventObject.info.type);

    What error do you get?
    Yes, you should have NET_STATUS on both NetConnection and NetStream.
    Also I don't see that you assign client to anything - connection and stream's events/methods are invoked on client. Especially you need it for listening for cue points. So, at least you need a line:
    ns.client = this;
    I think you mix unmixable here. I believe MetadataEvent.CUE_POINT is dispatched by FLVPlayback class. You do not use it. To read cue points from the stream you need to provide onCuePoint method in your code (again, it will work ONLY if you point to the client):
    function onCuePoint (infoObject:Object):void {
         trace("cuePoint from cuePointHandler");
         trace("Cue point name is: " + eventObject.name);
         trace("Cue point type is: " + eventObject.info);
         trace("Cue point parameters Array is: " + eventObject.parameters);
    I would move NetStream instnatiation to a function that is called when NetConnection is successfull. From Adobe help:
    private function netStatusHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void {
         switch (event.info.code) {
              case "NetConnection.Connect.Success":
                   connectStream();
              break;
              case "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound":
                   trace("Stream not found: " + videoURL);
              break;
    private function connectStream():void {
         ns = new NetStream(connection);
         ns.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatusHandler);
         ns.client = new CustomClient();
         var video:Video = new Video();
         video.attachNetStream(ns);
         ns.play(videoURL);
         addChild(video);

  • Video cue point events, or similar?

    Hi,
    In flex, the video GUI control has something called "cue points" -- you can get event callbacks when video playback hits time points of your choosing. This allows you to synchronize the video with other parts of your GUI. Is there something in JavaFX that allows the same thing? If not, are there plans to have it? When?
    thanks,
    Rob

    You don't even need a cuepoint to do this.
    Using the FLVComponent or the VideoPlayer object, use the
    "complete" event to execute code. You set up an event listener
    object to listen to the video object (using
    videoobject.addEventListener(listenerObject) ), and create a
    function for the listener object to do when the "complete" event
    occurs (such as listenerObject.complete = function() { do whatever
    Here's a link to a useful pdf about the VideoPlayer object.

  • I need help with my event-based cue points with audio

    Im having trouble with my video game project for my action script 3 class at school. Here is what i did, i made a game called Tailgate toss up. I filmed my character and rendered it in Adobe Premiere. I than brought my .mov file into After Effects and I put event-based cue points-
    my first cue point at 0:00:03:13 called "loop"
    my second cue point at 00:00:03:27 called "draw"
    my third cue point at 00:00:05:24 called "bang"
    my fourth cue point at 00:00:13:29 called "dead"
    my fifth cue point at 00:00:14:29 called "You Lose"

    When I have no audio it works perfectly, no problems. When I bring audio in i re-render it as a .mov file and bring it back into After Effects and add the cue points to it. Than i re-render it out again as a flv file. When i bring it into my flash project it will work when the looping variable does just one loop and my target will appear so you can click on it or not. But when the looping variable makes it loop 2 to 10 times it skips over the catching (the part of the clip if you clip the button) and goes directly to the dropping of the can, not giving you the option of clicking the button. So basically it skips the "draw" or second cue point of my game and goes to "You Lose" cue point.
    Any suggestions?

  • Actions  for  flv event cue point

    I have an flv playing back from component in a nested
    timeline (an actionscript 2 proj) and I want at the end of the
    video to gotoAndPlay the label"vidend" in the this timeline. I
    embedded the the event cue point called "end" on the last frame of
    video when I encoded it in my new CS3.I placed the following on the
    first frame of the nested timeline... The video plays fine but does
    not trigger the action. Any suggestions???...I 've found reams of
    info on navigation events but this is the result of everything I
    could find on the adobe site and I still not there.
    I'd really appreciate any direction anyone can give me.
    //leave this as is
    var listenerObject:Object = new Object();
    listenerObject.cuePoint = function(eventObject:Object):Void {
    //change this info..."end" is the name that you called your
    cuepoint when
    //you embedded it into the video
    if(eventObject.info.name == "end"){
    //tell your movie what you want it to do once your cuepoint
    has been hit

  • FLV and Event Cue Points

    Hi,
    I am streaming and flv file with numerous event cue points.
    When each cue point is reached I attach different movie clips. The
    problem is I need to add custom fast forward and rewind buttons to
    the video. I tried using netStream.seek(netStream.time +5) which
    works, but it skips over the event cue points. So when you stop
    fast forwarding the wrong movie clip is attached.
    Is there another way to fast forward the video and still have
    the event cue points recognized?
    Thanks,
    Caroline

    if (index="introductionText")
    I think you need double =, like this:
    if (index=="introductionText")
    -rich

    Hi, Rather than migrate from an iMac that I sold, I decided to just start fresh on a new Macbook Pro. I did back up my iTunes library and copied it over to the new Macbook. I synced my iPhone and iPad 2 on the new Macbook but the apps are greyed out.
