Curious behavior

Having finally got 4.1 all sorted out for my workflow, I notice something odd. When I make a conversion from ProRes to ProRes (eg 1080 to 1280 or 29.97fps to 25fps) I get the two instances but only about 50% CPU usage.
But make an H264 form a ProRes file, the CPU ramps up to 95%.
Don't expect any answers.

  • Curious Behavior regarding timeouts

    hi,
    In preparation to writing a bpel process which will be using a synchronous non-bpel webservice call, I wrote a dummy asynch bpel process which does nothing but loop a webservice call that waits for 5 or so minutes... causing a timeout. I catch all, and have an empty element which ignores. Each time the while loop( while(true) ) is excecuted, I do a checkpoint(), and print to the console a message to give me a good vibe that the bpel process is still alive.
    Ok.. not good to do, but I'm interested in the behavior of this scenario. My local BPEL PM goes for a few hours just like I expect, then comes up with this:
    javax.ejb.EJBException: Transaction was rolled back: timed out; etc...
    Not unexpected... just don't know why this happened hours after I started my timeout process... and then I'm puzzled why my process seems to stop functioning.
    Then I get:
    <2007-07-15 00:48:55,623> <INFO> <default.collaxa.cube.engine> <CubeEngine::expi

    And then my process seems to do nothing else, and is just listed as "open.running" in the BPEL Console... but seems to not "move" any more.
    I want to make a bullet proof bpel process which may call a non-bpel (sync) webservice that can perhaps take longer than the synch timeout value on our prod bpel servers. If a timeout occurs, I want to loop (and wait for the scene to cool down (in the version I want to write, the only reason it takes longer than 10 or so seconds is that an unknown number of threads would be accessing the same resource, a ContentDB, and it seems that the more accesses, the slower the response ) ) and keep retrying to call this service after a wait. It seems that out of the box, BPEL does not support this intuitively.... I'm using V10.2.0.2 of the PM.
    Oh.. I know that you can change the time that creates this container exception. I do plan on bumping up the values on the deployed domain, but I don't want to rely on this workaround. I don't know the max time to set to work in all situations.
    I need to be sure that BPEL will continue to process after this "event" occurs. If a catch all doesn't do it, I don't know what will. It seems that this 'transaction rolled back' is uncatchable? And what is rolled back, and where? Why doesn't it start again at the last checkpoint? I'd appreciate any advise.
    Thanks!

    I also did this for my webhosting provider, not knowing I could keep it to Welcome. I should've thought of coming here, but I was assuming my errors were because it was Index, not index, so I went in with a text editor and changed all instances of Index with find and replace (names of the programs were changed to reflect it as well). Then I came here, so I edited the Index to Welcome in the iWeb interface, then saved it to the same folder after changing the old folder names to Welcome for an overwrite. It put the new stuff in a new folder of the same name in the website folder. Im using classicFTP. I hadn't checked to see that the folder had been placed inside the old folder, and saw it after I started uploading, when it was too late. So, I uploaded again, this time the inner folder only. My website hasn't changed. Sorry, I know just enough about script to be dangerous to my programs. Can anyone give me a gentle nudge or something in the right direction? I also tried using the question mark but it just gave me a page not found error.

  • Rescue and Recovery 4.2 Curious Behavior

    I use R&R 4.2 to backup simultaneously to my HDD and to a USB HDD. When
    a backup is completed I'm always told that my USB HDD is not bootable, and
    asked if I want to make it so. It doesn't matter how I respond, because I am
    always able to boot from it.
    If I answer to make it bootable, one file fails to be copied after five tries:
      Z:\Preboot\OPERA\OUSR600.DAT could not be copied, error 5=access is denied.
    I've used Add or Remove Programs to repair the R&R installation with no benefit.
    I'm curious why R&R thinks my USB HDD is not bootable (though it is), and why
    this one file always fails to be copied (though it exists in E:\Preboot\OPERA with a
    date-stamp of July 24, 2008 - a date on which I didn't make a backup - and the
    permissions on it are the same as all other files in that folder).

    2 Gb RAM - 80 Gb Toshiba 5400rpm HDD - Win XP Pro

    Discovered some additional information. Since the previous "fix", the space on my laptop's hard drive was slowly filling up... to the point where there was less than 200 MB left... then suddenly there would be 1 GB of space... 150 MB... back and forth.
    When I uninstalled/reininstalled/uninstalled Rescue and Recovery (R&R) 4.2... I found afterwards that over 35 GB of space had "freed-up". I think what happened is that R&R 3.1 was constantly creating more "backups" and/or "partial failed backups" that were cluttering up my hard drive. When I uninstalled R&R 4.2 the second time, these backups were deleted.
    If there is a program that can "wipe" any lingering remnants of the R&R program so I can do a clean install of R&R 4.2, the information would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks again!

  • Curious behavior of the index page

    I use iWeb to maintain a site composed of an index page and many other pages. Whenever I make a change to any of the other pages and republish, I have to go back and republish the index page by itself, otherwise it will not load on any browser. This no big deal, as long as this continues to work, but I worry that something worst may happen, like never reload.!
    Has someone run into this small issue and perhaps has a suggestion to resolve it? Thanks.

  • How to trouble shoot curious charger behavior

    Having a power cord charging issue.
    1.67 GHz PB G4 15" about 8 years old.
    The origional power cord died long ago with a pop and smell of smoke.
    I replaced the cord with a powerbook medic brand power adapter that has worked
    with out flaw for 6 years.
    The curious behavior is that when plugged into the port the PB will sometimes stop taking a charge.
    Giggle the cord at the port and it will some times return.  When the PB stops charging green light on adapter stays green.
    How do I determine if it is the charger or the port in the computer that is faulty?

    The other weak link is the barrel-shaped power jack within the Powerbook:
    (this image from microdocusa.com is of a G3 Powerbook connector but is similar to the G4's)
    With age and stress, the solder joints that hold the thin "legs" to the logic board can loosen and cause intermittent charging failures. If you are handy with ripping apart a PowerBook and resoldering tiny parts, that's usually the sure cure, but not one for the faint of heart.
    One person I know simply inserted tiny plastic shims between his loose connector and the logic board to wedge the connector back into constant contact. Decided a low-tech approach, but it greatly extended the life of his PowerBook.

  • Overlaying SWF Asset with layer components - Strange behaviors.

    Hi !
    I am brand new at Flash Builder and Flash Catalyst.
    I have been spending most of my time in Catalyst at first and realized later on that I needed some of the nice features inside of FlashBuilder.
    I created a few FlashBuilder components and brought them in Catalyst in order to speed up my designing requirements.
    After bringing in several SWF assets in Catalyst I stumlbed upon a few curious behavior.
    1. If I load SWF assets in a same page and if they are inter mixed with components layers issued either from Photoshop or made from within Catalyst, I am unable to select most of them.  Only and only if I move them away from the other components, I can actually select them. They also become available when I make a test run, which they weren't before, if they were close or under other layerrs,  but stll visible.
    2. Is there a reason why the names of the SWF are not visual at the layer level within Catalyst ?  All I see once the SWF are loaded is the terminology SWF Asset with the Skin name Wireframe.  This also seems to be creating a conflict in how the SWF components are selectable, since every time I select one of the SWF Asset, it is the one at the highest level in the layer stack that gets selected and not the one that I am attempting to select.
    3. I ran once into a problem which was related to Skin name convention where I was duplicating buttons that always kept the same Skin name, which made it impossible to re-use them, since any modification would affect all of the duplicated components.  Why can't Catalyst create new Skin names in order to avoid this behavior?
    I am pretty happy using Catalyst and Builder, but I gotta say that some of those behaviors are putting a dent in my schedule.
    Anyone would have a few words of advice ?   I am especially concerned with the "perceived" impossibiliy to use more than one SWF asset within Catalyst.
    Thank you.

    Oops, on looking back at my original post I can see I was not
    clear on an important point. The layers that hold the three
    different swf files are in Dreamweaver, one layer holds
    Parks_Monuments.swf, another holds Land_Seascapes.swf and the third
    holds Cityscapes.swf. As it works now you click on the appropriate
    button on the left and through the use of Dreamweaver behaviors it
    shows the associated swf by hiding the other two layers. BTW the
    buttons are quite crude right now - no over or down states.
    I realize I can't use the layers in an Actionscript to do
    something but would it be possible to add a script to the down
    state of a button so that it would show/hide the Dreamweaver
    layers? I guess another way of doing it would be to put each swf on
    a seperate page and have the script call up it's URL. Seems like
    that would add a lot of overhead and duplicate uploading each time
    the user switches photo categories.
    Sorry for the confusion and thanks for taking the time to
    give me some guidance - much appreciated.

  • Crystal Report doesn't prompt for SAP credentials / errors out on refresh

    2 Environments tested with same results:
    <p>
    BOE XI 3.1 SP2 & BOE XI 3.1 SP2 FP2.5<br>
    SAP Intg Kit on mirrored SP/FP levels in each environment.
    <p>
    We've been successfully creating Crystal Reports against BEx queries in BW for months now as well as ECC master data.  We've also built universes and have WebI reports actively working against similar BEx queries in the same.  However, we're getting some curious behavior when we refresh the Crystal Reports against BEx queries in BW.  Verified all necessary transports and authorizations have been provided for both authoring, as well as refreshing/viewing on demand, etc.
    <p>
    We've setup all the Crystal Reports we're testing to:
    <p>
    a) Use custom database logon information specified here.<br>
    b) Specify a custom driver, leveraging the crdb_bwmdx driver<br>
    c) Prompt the user for database login
    <p>
    We have not enabled SNC as of yet.
    <p>
    1) When we refresh a WebI report hitting a BEx query with security applied, it doesn't prompt for the credentials, but we confirmed through tracing on the SAP side that if the user hits a paramater it has access to, the data comes through and when we hit a paramater they do not have access to, we can clearly see SAP reject it and it spits out a logical error on the BO side in InfoView and in the WebI logs on the BO server.
    <p>
    2) When we refresh a Crystal Report hitting ECC data, we are prompted for the SAP credentials and everything works as expected
    <p>
    However:
    <p>
    3) When we refresh a Crystal Report hitting a BEx query in BW, we are not promtped for SAP credentials.  We immediately get the "LOV" prompts.  Now, if we use a test user in SAP that has NO SECURITY restrictions at all and open access to the query, the data comes through.  However, as soon as any security is applied to the query level, even if it is SAP ALL, we cannot retrieve the data.  Tracing is also strange, as we can see on the SAP side it buffer the selected paramaters, but unlike with the WebI reports, it never shows it reaching the point where it checks each paramater against what the role has access to.  An error is then spit back.  We run the same queries with the same users within SAP and get normal behavior.  It's as though as soon as we apply security to the query the mdx driver doesn't like it.  Dependant on the type of InfoView viewer we use, the errors we consistently get on the BO side are:
    <p>
    Interactive Viewer: "Error in File %reportname%: Encapsulating Page Failed"<br>
    Java Viewer:  "Error in File %reportname%: Database Connection Error"
    <p>
    Nothing glaring in the event logs on the BO servers or in the Crystal logs that I can see, however just because it isn't spitting a specific error in the crystal logs doesn't mean I'm not missing something because I don't know what to look for behavior wise. To reduce the liklihood that it has to do with the way the report was built, we've tried against the same query by building a report using standard methods, as well as the SAP Toolbar using a very plain jane report.  Same behavior.
    <p>
    Thoughts?

  • T40's Left Shift key makes right click/context menu appear?

    Hello All-
    On my T40, on which I just recently got Windows 7 correctly installed, has a curious behavior:
    When I press the left shift key, it functions the same as if I had pressed the right mouse button.  It functions correctly otherwise, I.E., when using it to capitolize a letter in an email, the letter is capitolized, but as soon as I let go of the shift key, the right click/context menu immediately appears.
    This is exceedingly irritating, as I cannot continue typing until I have navigated out of the menu.
    I have checked to see if the Keyboard Customiser utility is causing this, as I currently have my left Alt key functioning as a Windows button, but it does not appear to be causing this particular issue.
    Does anyone have any idea how I might go about fixing this?
    Thanks in advance,
    G

    Nevermind-
    Had the keyboard customizer set to use the left shfit key as the application key.  Duh.

  • Failed to connect to database ONLY at the first time

    Hi all, I installed Discoverer 10g version and I'm using an Application User to connect to the server where's the Db is installed.
    Every time I try to connect to the server with Discoverer Viewer or Desktop I have a curious behavior....
    ALWAYS but ONLY the first time I try to connect I have the following error :
    - Failed to connect to database - Unable to connect to Oracle Applications database: invalid username/password.
    If I try to re-connect again the second time it works perfectly !!....so, I think, there's nothing related with my .dbc file.
    I tried also to write the ':' at the end of the user name....but it didn't work.
    Into the pref.txt file doesn't exist a parameter like DefaultUserTypeIsApps to set....
    Anybody have had the same "strange" behavior and found a solution or workaround ?
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

    Thanks for your answers first of all !
    At the end I found the solution looking at the Note:307167.1 on Metalink:
    Discoverer Plus 10.1.2 Fails with ORA-1017 Error On First Login Attempt Then Works On Second Attempt
    This note is very useful but into the solution the point 3 is not correct !
    3. Modify the servername parameter to indicate the fully qualified servername.domain
    Example:
    An httpd.conf setting of: ServerName my_servername.mydomain.com should match a Discoverer Plus URL like http://my_servername.mydomain.com:7778/discoverer/plus
    I had this problem both with Viewer and Plus...so instead to change the server name parameter (into the Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf file) with my complete URL (http://gnvdev.ote.gr:7779/discoverer/plus), I just write my right server name:
    Example
    After the installation of the Discoverer 1og server, into the httpd.conf file it was written automatyically: ServerName gnvdev
    I just modified in ServerName gnvdev.ote.gr and both Viewer and Plus started to work perfectly at the first time.
    I hope that this hint will be useful for you and others in the Discoverer forum !!!
    Best Regards

  • InDesign causing others to print blanks pages

    Okay so this is a weird issue and I'm getting no results.
    My issue is simple. After I print in ID anyone else I work with prints blank pages (We're printing through a network to a device). Also cyan prints incorrectly; however that is fixed if I open the print driver from the print dialog. Now the color thing is a problem through all the adobe software (Illy, Photoshop, Acrobat). No matter which program I use cyan prints wrong. But back to the main issue, strictly ID causes others to print blank. It isn't consistent either. A single document could consecutively cause the blanks then not cause them a little later. We've tried ever print driver possible and the problem persists. Another curious behavior with ID in conjunction with Acrobat is if Acrobat is open and I try to export to .pdf from ID then both programs freeze (however no message of either not responding comes up in the activity monitor) and the preferences are erased from ID
    I've spent 4 hrs on the phone with Adobe support and it's just some indian reading from a handbook asking over and over if I deleted my preferences. I've spent days with the printer manufacturer and worked with 7 of their tech specialists and even had them send out a new unit and  still the issues. I need to know if the rest of the world is seeing this. Or if this is even close to something someone has seen
    So from what I'm seeing is a problem with the PostScript writing that's freaking it out but I'm not software engineer so I can't say for sure.
    I'm running CC (though we still had the problems on CS6)
    OSX 1.7
    ID version 9.2.2
    printer  is a Konica Bizhub 554e (it's a laser copier)
    Thanks,

    I actually have created a .pdf and had others print it (a file I create in ID and export to pdf). What ends up happening is if I try to print the pdf people after me get blanks. However if someone else prints it there is no issue. I may have left out an important point I'm the only mac that uses the printer, everyone else  uses pc (and I don't know if that's an issue). I only have a postscript driver available (which is good) but i don't know what everyone else is using. I want to say in all of this i heard they have a PCL driver.
    As far as the router, I'm hardwired into the network so there is no router. Konica and our IT have checked the network and ruled out that possibility (and I don't really know what that means)
    But you are reaffirming the fact it is the printer and they need to fix it. And the fact that a document printed with only cyan is printed with all four colors to give me some weird off color makes me think the disconnect is between Adobe and the printer. But still so weird about the blanks.
    Thanks for the input

  • Any Saffire Users experiencing audio dropouts after waking from sleep?

    Salutations, My Fellow Logic Bretheren! I have a question for those of you that use the Focusrite Saffire or any other firewire interface that has done this.
    The Saffire has been my audio interface for the past year or so. I originally purchased it to use with a 17" MacBook Pro I had last year, but I've since upgraded to a 2.66GHz Mac Pro and it is on this beast of a machine that I currently use it. However, the problem that I will describe below is not machine-specific because it happened on the 17" MBP back then just as it does now on the Mac Pro. Overall, the Saffire is a great firewire interface that works great in Logic Pro. However, this issue - although minor - is not a big deal, but it is annoying for sure. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens enough for me to investigate.
    Specifically, I've noticed that often when my machine wakes up from sleep, I get no sound output from the the Saffire. I have to open up Audio MIDI Setup and toggle the CLOCK SOURCE to/from Mac or Device (depending on which one is set at the time) in order to get the sound back. The unit is set to a 44.1kHz sample rate which matches all of my software. I've downloaded the latest firmware and drivers for the Saffire (including the Universal Binary Saffire Control), but it still does the same thing. I read in a different message board somewhere that maybe Airport being on may be the cause, but I don't have that on anyway and it still exhibits this problem. I have all the latest OS updates as well so I'm at a loss trying to find the cause of this curious behavior.
    I tried to contact Focusrite tech support, but I got no response back. I don't believe the unit is faulty because it works great in acutal use. Once I toggle the clock source, all is well until the machine sleeps or reboots. Even if it was bad, I'm way beyond the period of time of when I would be able to exchange it.
    Like I said, its not a big deal, but if there is a way to fix it, I would like to do so. Makes me wonder if I have something setup wrong...
    So have any of you out there seen this with a Saffire or any other Firewire interface? Could this be a bug in the OS? Is there something I need to set somewhere? Is there something in the OS that could be changing the sample rate or clock source? A Firewire bus issue perhaps?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Hey John, thanks for the reply.
    I have two external Firewire Drives connected to my Mac Pro: One is a FW800 drive connected directly to the FW800 port on the Mac. The 2nd external drive is a FW400 drive daisy-chained off the FW800 drive. The Saffire is connected directly to the FW400 port on the Mac. They would all still be on the same FW bus, correct?
    I'll do another firmware upgrade and I've changed the FW cable as well. Usually when this happens, the two green LED's on the front panel change to yellow temporarily along with the red mute light; however, once I've toggled the clock source and/or the sample rate (44100), they go green again and the mute light disappears.
    John, is there anyway to LOCK the sample rate in AudioMIDI setup? I mean I have it set to 44100 in Logic and other applications when they are actually being used, but when this happens, its usally after sleep or a reboot and those apps are closed.
    All in all, the Saffire works great, it just has this occasional annoying little issue. I'll try to contact Focusrite again. What address did you contact them with?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    As a workaround it´s possible to check the attachments wich DB-Selects...
    regards Matthias Lakämper

    Hi,
    now i solved it on this way but....
    "select Attachment from oclg where cardcode = 'C1050' and docnum = 174 and doctype = 17")
    this returns a list of attachments delimited by ';'
    --- always add a new Attachment and add all old and new items
    string [] dbAttAr = dbAttachments.Split(new Char [] {';'});
    for ( int iLauf = 0; iLauf < dbAttAr.Length; iLauf++)
         aktAttachments.Add();
         aktAttachments.Item(iLauf).FileName = dbAttAr[iLauf];
    if ( inNewAttachment != null )
         aktAttachments.Add();
         aktAttachments.Item(dbAttAr.Length).FileName = inNewAttachment;
    A curious behavior is the following:
    When i add an attachment using the GUI (Button "Durchsuchen"),
    e.g. from a Path: c:/temp/file.txt this file is copied to
    '.../SAP Manage/SAP Business One/Attachments/file.txt
    When i add an attachment with the API the path keeps the value
    "C:/temp/file.txt" and the "Anzeigen"-Button works. This effect is exactly what i need.
    Is this different behavior a bug or a feature ?

  • Can't get background music to stop playing now!! Irritating..

    Don't know where this music is coming from. Obviously something I "opened" in the last couple of days, but I don't know what site I was at.

    Very curious behavior.  Open the Home folder in the Finder, hold down the option key while clicking on the Go command at the top, and choose Library.  In Library, locate the Preferences folder, and then the com.apple.mail.plist file and remove it.
    This should cure, but there are lots of new and possibly redundant files in the structure of the Mail folder in the Library, and so there may be another source of this setting -- we will see.

  • 5th Gen 60 G iPod Freezes - Is Stuck ON- Cannot use 5-R's

    This is a first for my iPod. My iPod was charging up from zero, I was listening while charging, then went to select another song when it FROZE in the ON position...won't turn off, will NOT CHARGE, either from computer or wall (when I plug in either way, it doesn't recognize it, no response). I cannot even begin to use the five-R's. I would be grateful for any insight. Thank you.

    Jeff...
    Strange happenings here lately. I couldn't get back to my iPod until today, therefore it's had 1+ days to rest. When I plugged it in to my Powerbook G4,
    not only did was it not recognized by iTunes, it didn't even blink. Just the unknown message "please wait. battery is very low.", with the icon of a battery with a screw (flathead) on top of it. No matter whether I toggled the switch, attempted to reset it, unplugged it and plugged it back in numerous times, no change. I called Apple (I found out it is still covered by it's warranty, just barely) and the technician tried all kinds of tricks, only to decide it needed to be repaired or replaced. Hung up the phone - - I unplug it from my Mac, and lo and behold, it comes to life! It still has a low battery charge, so I've had to charge it all afternoon. Lo and behold, it acts just fine now. Never did have to reset it. It's the darndest thing!? Am very grateful I now can keep enjoying it, rather than to have to send it off. Very curious behavior, n'est ce pas? Thank you Jeff, for helping me through a confusing time. Best wishes to you and yours...

  • Extra element in cluster when using Array2Cluster?

    I hope someone can help me out. I've just noticed some curious
    behavior that I can't explain, or find any references to on-line.
    When I convert a 1-D array (say of I32s) which has length N, to a
    cluster I find that the cluster has N+1 elements, the last of which is
    always 0. Am I missing something here?
    I'm using LabVIEW 6.0.2 on NT.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the guidance Jean-Pierre and Henrik!
    I guess I was working too many hours straight when I came across this
    problem, because I completely misread it, and then jotted off a post
    before really seeing what I was looking at. Stupid me!
    However, I strongly feel that the need to explicitly specify the
    cluster size to convert to is a real LV deficiency. Given that I was
    converting a constant array, LV had all the foreknowledge to size the
    cluster automatically. LV usually handles polymorphism very smoothly,
    so I feel that it should here as well.
    As far as the case of converting an array control, well that's more
    complicated since the size isn't known until run-time. In that case I
    would say that you should have to do an explicit specification.
    Pr
    oper polymorphic sizing of converted clusters would be a great
    feature in future revisions of LV. Is that too much to ask?
