Currency Translation over several periodes

Hi,
I have a query on cube 0figl_VC1, on rows 0glaccext and one column with 0balance
currency translation type:
from source curr. to EUR, with our own exchange rate type
and variable time ref beginning of periode (0FISCPER)
exchange rates are updated daily
On runtime I filter periods 001.2007 to 003.2007
no query key date
What I need :
Balance of (accountings of periode 001 translated with exchange rate of periode 001+
accountings of periode 002 translated with exchange rate of periode 002+
accountings of periode 003 translated with exchange rate of periode 003)
Shall it work like this? If not the exchange rate of which periode will come into effect?
Thanks for your help

  • EC-CS-currency translation key 5 - Translation of each period at applicable

    Hi,
When using translation key 5 (Translation of each period at applicable rate for the period) in our methods, for this to translate local currencies per period, do we have to run our currency translation methods EVERY period, or can we run it just once, say at year-end, and it will re-compute the group currency values for each period using applicable exchange rate for those periods?
    For instance,
    period 1: LC value = 100,
                 GC value = 150
    period 3: LC value = 200
                 GC value = 300
No currency translation method is run at this point, the GC values are just given values.
If we decide to change the exchange rate for period 1 to 1LC = 2LC, and we run currency translation at year-end using translation key 5, will the system recompute the GC value in period 1 from 150 to 200?
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    Peter

    Hi Sudhir,
From the accounting point of view, the purpose of currency translation is basically to adjust the local currency into the group currency. I can say that, it's actually a "simplified" version of on-line paralel currenty as we have in on-line SAP R/3.
In your case, you said that there is no "off line companies" in the group. I assume that R/3 will be the 100 percent source of your consolidation system.
If your feeder system (FI, and probably CO), has been equiped with the paralel currency, then there's no need for you to activate the currency translation since the translated amount is there already in the paralel currency.
    Hope can clarify.
    regards,

  • Currency translation differences with an effect on earnings

    Product Version: SAP R/3 46.C
    Componente: EC-CS-CSF-E Currency Translation
In currency translation program of ECCS (tx CX40) the prior year portion of translation differences that affects earnings is posted in current period in the earnings retain item (ER) which according to SAP documentation "Currency translation differences with subsequent consolidations" is correct, however when we run the currency translation on subsequents periods this amount is posted again generating a multiplying of differences on each period.
In accordance with section u201CBu201D of SAP note 553586, the carryforward item (retain earnings) was assigned to translation key 5, to avoid multiplications of this difference in every execution of currency translation for current period. This correction was applied successfully, however the problem is now generated when we run the currency translation in every subsequent period.
SAP notes 582815 and 553586 was applied succesfully.
We also verified SAP note 1045402 changing the translation key 5 to 1, for balance carryforward item (retained earnings) this avoids the difference effect on subsequents periods, but  generates a translation differential effect undesired on this item, since this is a historical item that not must be altered by currency translation.
Additionally we read SAP note 509509 and we think that this issue corresponds whit symptom 2 of that note.
    Step by Step:
    Transaction: CX40
Setting of Translation SET in translation method:
    1.- MARS-GAP-Monetary:
    1.1.- Items of balance sheet

    2.2.- Translation Key 6
2.3.-  Item for differences: income statement item with an effect on earnings
    3.-MARS-MOR-Monetary
    3.1.- Items of P&L
    3.2.- Translation Key 5

    5.- MARS-HIST
    5.1.- Items of balance sheet
    5.2.- Translation Key 6
5.3.-  Item for differences: Balance sheet item without an effect on earnings
    6.- ANI-BS-FX
6.1.- Items of differences SET MARS-HIST and Carryforward Item for special items in transaction CXD3, the same item for the balance carryforward (retained earnings)
    6.2.- Translation Key 5
6.3.-  Item for differences: Balance sheet item without an effect on earnings (the same item for the SET MARS-HIST)
    7.- ANI-BS
7.1.- The special balance sheet item in Transaction CXD3
    7.2.- Translation Key 5
7.3.-  Item for differences, the same item
    8.- ANI-IS
8.1.- The special income statement item in Transaction CXD3
    8.2.- Translation Key 5
8.3.-  Item for differences, The same item
    Note:
1 .- According to the point A of the note  553586 was included the FS Item 484051011(difference item for SET MARS-HIST)  in the conversion SET ANI-BS-FX
2 .- According to Section B of the note 553586 was included the account for carried forward  481000001 the special accounts set up in the transaction CXD3 in the conversion SET ANI-BS-FX
3 .- According to Section C of  note 553586 are included special accounts set up in the transaction CXD3 390000 and 251200, in the conversion SET ANI-IS and ANI-BS respectively.
When run the currency translation in the new year 1-2011, the prior year portion of translation differences that affects earnings is posted in current period a credit to earnings retain and debit to account difference in SET for this account. This amount is same on special balance sheet item 251200, in tx CXD3, also found on the statistical FS item.
Then in subsequent periods, 2 - 2011 it posting another credit to earnings retain and debit to account difference in SET for this account, generating a multiplying of differences on each period, even though the difference for this account (ER) in the log of the translation currency is equal to the difference posted to the previous period, show this in transaction CX34 for items of translation (1) for this account until 1-2011.

    Hi,
just a information how I did a workaround about this:
The opening (movement type 100) of the balance sheet item "differences of currency translation" is customized with "don't change...".
Every increase  to "differences  of currency translation" works with e.g. movement type 120 and will be carried forward to 100.
Maybe this is a scenario you can use...

  • Currency translation key based on posting period 0fiscper3

    Hi Folks,
The requirement is to perform currency translation in query based on the end of period. The query uses the time characteristics as fiscal year (0FISCYEAR) and posting period (0FISCPER3).
I have maintained the currency translation key using RRC1 with variable time ref as 0FISCPOER3 .On executing the query I am getting error that 'No Exchange rate maintained ' .But the exchange rates are maintained in the system.
SAP Help states that the variable time reference has to be a standard InfoObject as 0FISCPER or 0FISCYEAR   or customer defined Infobject with type date.
0FISCPER3  is of type NUMC .
Is this the reason that I am not getting the currency translation ?? or I am missing out in some settings.
Please advise .Due points will be granted .
    Thx,
    Gautam

    Hi Gautam,
0FISCPER3 just stores the period values as 001, 002, 003 etc, with no reference to the year (and hence no reference to a fixed point in time). Try create the RRC1 key using 0FISCPER and use this in your query.
    Hope this helps...

  • Currency Translation Type - Problem with Posting Period (0FISCPER3)

    Hi Gurus,
We are currently working on an Implementation project in Integrated Planning (BI 7.0) and are having issues with Currency Conversion for each Month. The requirement is that Client will maintain Currency Exchange rates on a month on month basis for Exchange rate type P.
In all the Info providers we have used Posting Period 0FISCPER3 as a Time characteristic and NOT 0FISCPER ( Fiscal Year / Period ). Eventhough 0FISCPER appears as a Standard time characteristic in all Info providers , we have not even considered the same in all the Aggregation levels.
When we are now defining a Currency Translation Type thru RSCUR transaction , we select Variable Time Reference as "Beginning of Period" and the ONLY Standard Info Object available there is 0FISCPER and not the Posting Period 0FISCPER3.
Is there anyway that we can include 0FISCPER3 also as a Standard Info Object !!!!! If not , is there any way out ..... Do we have to include 0FISCPER necessarily as a characteristic in the Aggregation Level ? Please advise.
    Regards,
    Venkat.

    Hi,
In the IP modeler you can also use the FOX formula for conversion.
    CURC(<amount>, <d>, <exchange rate type>, <curr_from>, <curr_to>)
This reads the RSCUR table, and you can write your own date from fiscal or calander. So it is most flexibel.
    Maybe this helps.

  • Currency Translation

    Hi,
We have different needs for the currency translation depending on the financial statement items an movement type.
So, we have defined 2 methods (and 2 tasks) all different.
They are different also in the exchange rate type for the reference translation.
    That is, for example:
    First method (task):
Exchange rate type for the reference translation (1003 - Historical exchange rate)
    Step:
       Investment items
and type of movement (100 u2013 beginning balance)
    Specific translation:
    u2022     Currency translation key: periodic
u2022     Exchange rate type: EURX (EMU regulation, variable exchange rates)
    Item (Translation Difference):
    Item (58200)
        Subitem (58201)
    Second method (task)
Exchange rate type for the reference translation (1002 - Average exchange rate)
    Step:
        Income statement items
    Specific translation:
    u2022     Currency translation key: periodic
u2022     Exchange rate type: EURX (EMU regulation, variable exchange rates)
    Item (Translation Difference):
        Item (58200)
        Subitem (58202)
    PROBLEM:
When we run the methods at consolidation monitor, the second task affects the result of the first task.
The result from the first task is correct.
When we run the second task, which is for income statement items (not this as the first one u2013 investments), System is creating a new step (a cumulative one), which is changing the Exchange rate type for the reference translation of this item; meaning is changing the previous correct values.
    Why is this happening?

    Thanks for your answer.
So, what you're saying is that I cannot have several Exchange rate type for the reference translation according to financial statement items/movement types?
I always have to have the same Exchange rate type for the reference translation for all the items/movement types?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards.

  • Foreign Currency Translation at Year End - How SAP Works for P&L items?

    Hi All,
I wanted to know "How SAP works on Foreign Currency Translation at year end" from Local Currency to Group Currency for P&L Items.
I know how SAP works for Balance sheet items but am really confused with when the translation was done for P&L Items.
    Configuration:
We are on ECC 6.0 . Local Currency is CAD and we have 2nd Local Currency as "USD - Group Curr".
We have set up Valuation Method - 4
We have set up Valuation Area - 40
For Account Determination for Currency Translation, GL accounts (Loss, Gain and B/S Adj)  were setup for the combination of Chart of Accounts, Val Area and Fin Stmt Ver.
    Sales Account Balance
    CAD (LC)        USD (2nd LC)
    1000                   920
Using tcode "FAGL_FC_TRANS", we translated our P&L items.
Local Currency is CAD and Group Currency is USD.
CAD 1000 and USD 920 are cumulative balances over a period of time.
Since at the end of year CAD became stronger, exchange rate is 1.11 as an example
    Sales Account Balance
CAD (LC)        USD (2nd LC)        Translated Value in USD
    1000                   920                        900
System passed the following entry in USD:
Debit Balance Sheet Adj A/c 20
    Credit Translation Gain / Loss A/c 20
    Here are the questions:
    1. How does over all translation work? - Should we get any Gain / Loss and have an effect on P&L when all accounts (P&L, B/S) are translated?
    2. How can there be a gain entry when USD value has really fallen from 920 to 900 in the current case.
    Thanks for your time.
    Vijay

    Hi,
I had this issue too.  The entry was just opposite to what it should be.  I just flipped the accounts in table FAGL_T030TR.
Example: 410000 is sales account which normally should have a credit balance.  Here are some entries that were posted to sales in 03/2009 and I am running FAGL_FC_TRANS at the end of the month.
    March 1, 2009 Cr. Sales CAD 1000- USD 900-
    March 2, 2009 Cr. Sales CAD  500- USD 480-
During FC translation transaction, system takes the balance in the account for the period (if you execute it with 'Val. period balance only' checkbox checked) and not the cumulative balance.  SAP recommends translating period balance only (and not cumulative balance) for P&L accounts.  It sees a balance in LC (this again depends on the config. you have in OB22 - whether the indicator is 1 (TC as source currency) or 2 (LC as source currency for translation)) which is 1500, converts that at month end rate.  After conversion, lets say the balance is 1400-.
In this case, we expect a credit entry on sales account
    March 31, 2009 Cr. Sales CAD 0  USD 20-
But system was just posting the opposite.  I then flipped the accounts in FC translation configuration.  I know it is misleading.  In that configuration, system says balance sheet adjustment account, but what you should actually give there is your gain/loss account.  Our gain/loss a/c. falls in the same GL account range as the main account.  For example, for 410000, it is 410999 and for 510000, it is 510999.  We report accounts 410000 to 410999 in the same node in the FSV.
Pl. feel free to ask further questions about this.  Pl. test in your system and correct me if my above reply is wrong.
    Cheers!

  • Currency Translation with different time dependencies

    Hello,
I'd like to use different currency translations within my query.
Values of the time period 01.2006-07.2006 should be converted
    1. with the exchange rates 01.2006-07.2006 (done)
    2. with the current exchange rate 01.2007-07.2007
The problem is that I don't know how I can manage the second step. It would be easy if I had one period per column but I need  to show several months in 1 column....
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Best regards,
    Thomas Markus

is table TCURR maintained in R/3 with the exchange rates you want and the proper date ranges?
Then, is that table imported in BW?
If you answered yes to both, I'm not too sure what the issue is, can yopu clarify?

  • Currency Translation on Key Date for AR Aging

    Need your valuable advice!
I have created an AR Aging query including both Open and Cleared Items based on 0FIAR_C03_Q0005 standard query. However the requirement is to do currency translation to Group Currency (USD) on Key Date. This Key date is defaulted to today but the user can change this to go back in time and pull all the ARs as of that back dated key date.
I was planning to create a currency translation type on M rate based on the Key Date Variable in RSCUR. However I am confused on which variable to base this currency translation. I have several key date variables in my query such as 0P_KEYD2 (based on Posting Date), 0P_KEYDT (based on Net Due Date) and 0P_KEYD3 (based on Clearing Date).
Which Key Date Variable should I use in 'Time Reference from Variable' field in RSCUR? Would it be one of the 3 mentioned above or something else and why?
    Appreciate your valuable advice.
    Thanks,
    Al

    Hi,
Yes I do want to use the Key date from the variable screen and I am using the standard 0FIAR_C03_Q005 with slight modification including currency translation.
As I mentioned in my original post I have several key date variables in this query such as 0P_KEYD2 (based on Posting Date), 0P_KEYDT (based on Net Due Date) and 0P_KEYD3 (based on Clearing Date). My question is which one should I use if I want to base it on the specific key date variable from the variable screen? I need the specific Key Date variable technical name.
    Thanks,

  • Currency translation problem

    Dear All,
I am trying to create  the currency translation type and use it in the Bex Designer. But its not converting the values at all.
    Output required:-
Need to convert all INR values to fixed USD currency. Source currency is always INR and target currency is always USD.
But customer i going to give us the exchange rate for everymonth and we need to apply the latest exch rate depending upon when user is running the report. We are planning to store the rates in some z table as of testing we are accessing tcurr table.
    Case:-
Say user is running report as on today then last month rate(july month rate) needs to be picked up.
Say user is running report today but viewing report data as of May only then also latest rate i.e July month rate needs to be picked up and applied.
Backend activities while creating translation type:-
    Exchange rate type :- M
Source curr:- Source curr from data rec.
Target curr:- Fixed target curr - USD.
Time reference :- Variable time reference , Begining of period, standard infoobject i.e 0FISCPER.
I am not very sure on what values needs to be selected for Time reference tab in order to achieve my case.
    Frontend activities:-
Using the same key figure and changing the currency translation properties.
Reqeust you to give ur inputs on this.
    Thanks & Rgds,
    Anup

    Hi Mansi,
Thank you very much . I am now able to select my variable.
But one small concern. Now after creating the currency translation type i just need to maintain the rate in tcurr table rite?
My value would for tcurr table would be;-
    M INR USD 20090701 47.095
    M INR USE 20090601 460258
Use this variable in Bex Designer.
Is there any other area which we need to take care of.
    Thanks & Rgds,

  • Currency Translation Using 'Time Reference'

    Hey Experts,
    Quick question.
Has anybody had experience performing the planning function 'Currency Translation' <b>BUT</b> using the 'Time Reference' field.
My goal is to have it translate the currency based on Fiscal year/period, using the fiscal 'year/period END' to determine the translation date.
However in the paremeter group for currency translation, when I click on the 'Time reference' Drop-down button to select, it's blank, and give me no choices to pick anything. Have I missed something here? Are there any other prior steps I've ignored?
I already have the fiscal year/period characteristic defined on my level.. and I've defined my 'Targ.Curr' as USD.
I can't find much documantation except for the basic help button, but that doesn't really say much.
    Any advice..?
    Thank All.

    Hi,
If I understand you correctly, am I then to assume using the Fiscal year/Period '0FISCPER' will not work. The F1 help say it should.
And are you saying if I use Fiscal year '0FISCYEAR' and/or Posting Period '0FISCPER3' instead, it should work by giving me the option of choosing the start or end of these two fields when I click on the drop-down of the Time Reference??
The way I have this defined is as follows.
At the level I have both:
    Fiscal year/Period '0FISCPER' -> 001/2006 to 012/2007.
    Fiscal year '0FISCYEAR' -> 2006 to 2007.
In my Paramter Group I have the following definition:
Target Key Figure:  Value in Object currency
Source Key Figure:  Value in CO Currency
    Exch.Rate: 001P
    Char.Target.Crcy: Currency
Curr,Date:  Is currenctly Flagged, but will remove it once I have the Time Reference field working.
At the Planning area, I have a characteristic relationship defined as a derivation using 'Type' reference data, whereby the Fiscal year (0FISCYEAR) is referenced from the Fiscal year/Period (0FISCPER), and the Posting period (0FISCPER3) also references the Fiscal year/Period (0FISCPER) that are currently stored in my transactional cube.
Based on the above, I still don't get anything to choose from when I click on the drop-down for the 'Time Reference' field in the currency translation.
If you could perhaps do some screen dumps of the level you defined, characteristic relationship, as well as how u defined the parameter group, that may help.
You can attach email it to  '[email protected]'.
Sorry for the confusion, but I think I'm missing something obvious and simple here..!!
    Thanks

  • Currency Translation not working with "Time Reference from Variable"

We have created several Currency Translations using RSCUR with a fixed "Key Date".  All have been working fine until we got the request to allow a variable date for the exchange rate date.  I have built a variable on 0DATE which I am putting a default date value into using user exit.  This default date is the SAME date as the fixed "Key Date" which we have been using.  Unfortunately when we use the "Time Reference from Variable" option and use this new variable, no currency conversion is taking place, instead it only shows the original currency values.  I am 100% sure that my variable is getting a value and it is the same date we are using for the fixed "Key Date" value so both methods should be using the exact same exchange rates.  The documentation that I can find states:
    ●      Time reference: The time reference for the currency translation can be either fixed or variable.
If the time reference is fixed, the time at which the exchange rate is determined is independent of the data. You have the following options:
    ○       You can establish that the time reference be determined upon translation.
    ○       You can select the current date.
    ○       You can specify a fixed date as the key date.
    ○       You can specify any variable that exists for InfoObject 0DATE.
    ○       You can establish that the query key date be used. This is determined in the query settings.
In my case I am only switching from option "You can specify a fixed date as the key date"=(Key Date) to "You can specify any variable that exists for InfoObject 0DATE"=(Time Reference from Variable).
What am I missing?  Any help is appreciated.

I neglected to mention that we are calling this currency translation through a WAD button using the SET_CURRENCY_TRANSLATION command.  I did do a test by applying the currency conversion within query key figure.  This seems to work.  So it appears the issue is with how the WAD is processing the variable, not the query.  When I display the variable in a drop down item within the WAD it does have the default value that I have assigned in user exit.

  • Currency Translation in Report!

    Hi All,
I am working on AR Aging report. We are maintaing currency translation in the BEx only. We are maintaining month end rates. For that exchange rate is defined and configurations are done.
But when I executed Over due analysis report the aging balances for target to source gets converted in to the currency amounts which is loaded latest means if I update the TCurr table with Nov month end figures it will show the aging report as those rate for every report.
But if I run the report as of oct then it should show Oct 31st month end rates.
If I am wrong please correct.
How does this R/3 report behaves when it comes to translations.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Currency Translation in Query on InfoSet

    Hi Experts,
I need to do a currency conversion from 0LOC_CURRENCY to USD on an Infoset. The Data flow is DSOs --> Infoset --> Multiprovider --> Query. I want to do this Translation on Posting date which is in my DSO, Infoset and Multiprovider. I have created custom Translation Type on Postind date (with Exchange Rate Type = M, Fixed Target Currency = USD, Time Reference as Special Infoobject = 0PSTNG_DATE in RSCUR) in RSCUR but in the Query, I cannot see this custom conversion type available, as in report the infoobject 0PSTNG_DATE is available as '<Infoset Name>__FXX' .
Is there any paricular setting need to be done on an infoset to incorporate Currency Translation on Query ? Also, if there is any other procedure available for Infoset Currency Translation, please let me know.
Thanks fin advance or all your help.
    Regards,
    Dibyendu

    Hi,
As I want to do my currency translation on an Infoset the infoobjects do not appear in traditional format. 0PSTING_DATE has taken a name '<Infoset Name>__FXX' (like ZISCURTR__F24). How can I put this reference in RSCUR 'Time Ref' tab in Infoset option over there ? It gives only a F4 help option (donot allow to write something there) and my infoset is not available in the list. Is there any particular setting that I can do in my infoset to make that available in RSCUR F4 help ?
    Please suggest.

  • Currency Translation based on Last Day of the Acquistion month

    Dear all,
Request to help me in understanding how we can calculate the currency translation rate as per the last day if the acquistion month..
For Example if the  Acquistion date : 01/01/2008 (mm/dd/yyyy) the currency translation should happend based on the rate maintained as on 31/01/2008.
    Thanks

First, you will need to convert the actual acquisition date to the end date of the Fiscal Period. This can be done by using two separate Function Modules. First, get the actual Fiscal Period by entering the date and Fiscal Year Variant into the DATE_TO_PERIOD_CONVERT Function Module. Use the Fiscal Year and Fiscal Period from this and determine the end date of the Fiscal Period by using Function Module LAST_DAY_IN_PERIOD_GET with Fiscal Year, Fiscal Period and Fiscal Year Variant as your inputs.
For the conversion, use the Function Module CONVERT_TO_LOCAL_CURRENCY. The inputs for this would be the last date of the Fiscal Period, the amount to be converted, the from currency code, the to currency code, blank in rate, AS01 in type of rate and X in read TCURR. This assumes, however, that month-end rates (rate type = AS01) have been loaded into your source system and these rates have been transferred to your BW environment.
