Custom Component that creates a shared Logger

Hi all,
I am wondering how to create a custom component that instantiates a Log4J logger on boot up the server.
I am using LC ES 2.5.
In general I would like to know how to create some component that instantiates a class when the server boots
Thanks in advance

Canvas uses absolute positioning, so using X Y coordinates, or left, right, top, bottom constraints, stuff will overlay.
If you use auto-layout containers within the Canvas, like VBox, HBox, etc. then this will not work as well.

  • Building a custom component that overlays a image on a canvas

    Hi,
    I'm working on creating a custom component that contains a header and a List component. In the header I want to display a image, but I want part of the header image to sit over the list component. How can this be done in Flex? I know in CSS youh ave a z-index, but is this possible in Flex?

  • Has anyone seen a Component that Creates a Transition Like This?

    Has anyone seen a Flash Component that creates a slide transition similar to this... http://www.silversea.com/
    Looks like there is a looping background image and the other slides are loaded above it (hopefully via XML?) and the transition effect maybe in a component???
    Thanks for any assistance!

    It looks like the black and white image for the transition sits atop the others and the transition involves masks being moved over that black and white image to reveal it and hide it.  The color imagery is switched out behind it.
    I believe this is a handcrafted piece, not involving any component, though it might be something one could buy as a ready-made product that accepts different imagery via xml.

  • Creating an HtmlCommandLink in a Custom Component

    Hi,
    A simplified version of my problem is as follows: I have created a custom component that delegates to a renderer. Within the renderer I create an instance of the HtmlCommandLink class to which I want to assign an action with the setAction method. However, when I try doing this with the line:
    link.setAction(Util.createConstantMethodBinding("success"));
    The page renders but the link does not work.
    or:
    MethodBinding vb = context.getApplication().createMethodBinding("success", null);
    link.setAction(vb);
    I get an exception.
    I have set the navigation rule in my faces-config file for "success".
    I am new to JSF and so I might be doing something stupid or missing the point somehow but I want to be able to create HtmlCommandLinks within a custom class rather than from a tag on the page.
    Any help appreciated,
    Barney

    can you please post your exception as well as your JSP page.
    Thanks

  • Creating a custom component

    I am creating a custom component that is based on Canvas.
    I am trying to add this component as a child of another
    component like that:
    myCanvas.addChild(myCustomComponent)
    addChild function expect ObjectDisplay in its argument and
    not a Class. I am little confused. If I am creating a component
    that base on Canvas isnt it inherited from ObjectDisplay?
    please help.

    I actually figure it out. Thank you!!!
    here is what I am trying to do.
    1. creating component_A based on Canvas
    2 in my Application I have Canvas_B
    I wanted to add component_A as a child to Canvas_B

    Canvas_B.addChild(new component_A ())

  • Create complex custom component

    Hi everyone!
    I'm trying to create my own custom component in JSF. However I have several questions :
    - It is not mandatory to create a renderer class, right ? the component can draw itself ?
    - How can I create a custom component which would have several "values" inside ? for example let us supppose I want to create a custom JSF component to enter a IBAN. The IBAN is divided into several parts : BBAN, country code, key, Bank adresse,... but any tutorial I've found explain how to create a input component with only one simple value (for example the classical "CreditCardInputComponent").
    Josselin

    Hi,
    did you find a solution for your "composite" component problem?
    I am also trying to create a custom component that contains several standard jsf components such as HtmlCommandLink and HtmlInputText.
    I build all the standard components within my component programmatically using things like:
    HtmlCommandLink link = (HtmlCommandLink) application.createComponent(HtmlCommandLink.COMPONENT_TYPE);
    Also at the beginning of the encodeBegin I clear all children from my custom component using getChildren().clear()
    and rerender the component based on my new internal model which I updated during the previous decoding of my component.
    As a simple jsf custom tag it works ok, however, I am facing deep problems with action events as soon as I use the component within a jsf HtmlDataTable tag.
    Am I missing something here?
    Any ideas? Help is really really appreciated. This different behavior in different contexts is slowly but constantly driving me nuts.
    cheers

             <artifactId>jsf-impl</artifactId>
             <version>1.2-b19</version>

             <artifactId>jsf-api</artifactId>
             <version>1.2_02</version>
           </dependency>By the way, I had this problem with the myfaces 1.2 implementation too.
    Thanks for your help,

  • HtmlCommandLink in a custom component

    Hi everybody,
    seems like I got stuck with this Problem here: I am trying to create HtmlCommandLink within my custom component that points to a method via method binding. My code looks as follows:
    ResponseWriter writer = context.getResponseWriter();
    HtmlForm htmlForm = new HtmlForm();
    htmlForm.encodeBegin(getFacesContext());
    HtmlCommandLink htmlCommandLink = new HtmlCommandLink();
    htmlCommandLink.setParent(htmlForm);
    MethodBinding methodBinding = getFacesContext().getApplication().createMethodBinding("#{TestAction.defaultAction}", null);
    htmlCommandLink.setAction(methodBinding);
    htmlCommandLink.encodeBegin(getFacesContext());
    writer.write("Link");
    htmlCommandLink.encodeEnd(getFacesContext());
    htmlForm.encodeEnd(getFacesContext());
    The Link is created in the page and I can click on it but the method is not invoked. I can invoke it in the code manually which means the reference to the method is working. Am I missing something here?
    Any help appreciated
    Florian

    thanks for your help, and i change the code as :
    @Override
         public void encodeBegin(FacesContext context) throws IOException {
              if (context == null) {
                   throw new NullPointerException();
              ResponseWriter writer = context.getResponseWriter();
              ExpressionFactory expressionFactory = context.getCurrentInstance().getApplication().getExpressionFactory();
              ELContext elContext = context.getCurrentInstance().getELContext();
              MethodExpression actionExpression = expressionFactory.createMethodExpression(elContext,
                        "#{UserManager.actionLoad}",null, new Class[] {ActionEvent.class});
              UIParameter parameter = (UIParameter)context.getCurrentInstance().getApplication().createComponent(UIParameter.COMPONENT_TYPE);
              parameter.setId("addId");
              parameter.setTransient(false);
              parameter.setName("id2");
              parameter.setValue(34);
              HtmlCommandLink link = (HtmlCommandLink) context.getApplication().createComponent(HtmlCommandLink.COMPONENT_TYPE);
              HtmlForm form = new HtmlForm();
              form.setId("pageForm");
              link.setTransient(true);
              link.setValue("Create");
              link.setActionExpression(actionExpression);
              link.getChildren().add(parameter);
              this.getParent().getChildren().add(link);
              form.encodeBegin(context);
              link.encodeBegin(context);
              link.encodeEnd(context);
              form.encodeEnd(context);
    I can click on it but the method is not invoked.

  • Scroll bar, buttons and a Custom Component - help

    Thanks to another forum I was able to create a scroll panel and add a scroll bar to it.  That works fine.  Inside the scroll panel I have thumbnails of the product that I'm highlighting.  I want to be able to click on the thumbnail and have a full size photo of the product come up in the window next to the scroll panel.  I created a custom component that has a stage showing each full size product individually.  This worked fine when I simply had buttons and no scroll bar.  I could convert the thumbnail to a button and then add interaction so that it would go to the proper state of the custom component.  Where I'm having problems is now that I've imbedded the buttons in a scroll panel I'm no longer given the custom component as an option to pick from.  I can add interaction, but it only gives me the option of picking one of the pages, and not a component.
    I've attached a screen grab to help show what I'm describing.
    Any ideas?
    Doug

    Doug, thanks for asking this question.
    Hi ADAM...
    It seems that a lot of us are asking the same question: Scrollbar Navigation-Make Actionable
    (I created a low-fidelity proof-of-concept to test—using a datalist as you suggested. See link in my posting).
    I have reviewed the video you refer to here, but you example still does not allow for individual items in the datalist (scrollbar) to be assigned individual actionable events.
    Can you expain your thinking in Option 1, as a workaround? Do you have any other suggestions?
    BOTTOM LINE
    We are all looking to do the same thing... something we are going to see A LOT MORE of after Uncle Steve's TABLET presentation next week:
    A scrolling menu, with selected items in the menu causing "navigation" to a certain point in a scroll panel. (imitating the flick or slide effect of iPhone).
    Suggestion: Can you add a field to thedatalist so that when the "repeated item" (in edit mode) is configuredto do an action (i.e., On-Click, Transition to State), we can then assign the state  you'd like for each item in thetable itself?
    Now the issue is making it change the "State" within another component (i.e. scrolling panel). Can that be done?
    Thanks,
    - Rick

  • Custom component accessing data

    I am trying to build a custom component that utilizes the
    datagrid. I want to create a class that loads in xome XML and
    populates the datagrid. The datagrid's ID is not available in the
    class's load.COMPLETE event handler, so I cannot populate the
    datagrid from the class. I then tried making a public property in
    the class that holds the XML, but, still I run into problems,
    because that property is null before the XML is loaded, so I cannot
    access it outside the class until the load is complete anyways. So,
    I guess the question is, what would be the best practice for
    passing data, loaded from a class, to a custom component.

    Events.
    There are some examples in the archives.

  • UI delegate for a custom component

    Hello folks,
    I am trying to write (as said in the subject) a UI delegate for a custom component. I found the following in a Java FAQ (http://www.mindspring.com/~scdrye/java/faq.html#plaf_delegate):
    8.3. How do I create a UI delegate for my custom component?
    Have your component extend from JComponent (or a descendant of JComponent). Create a subclass of ComponentUI for your custom component, overriding at least the createUI() and paint() methods. To enable the new UI, override four methods of your JComponent subclass:
    public class MyComponent extends JComponent {
    public void updateUI() {
    setUI((MyComponentUI)UIManager.getUI(this));
    public void setUI(MyComponent newUI) {
    super.setUI(newUI);
    public MyComponentUI getUI() {
    return (MyComponentUI)ui;
    public String getUIClassID() {
    return "MyComponentUI";
    Well, it turns out that this is not enough. I also had to add during application start (just before initComponents()) the following:
    UIManager.put(uiClassID, uiClassName);
    to avoid exceptions during start of the program.
    Well, now my component is painted (paintComponent()) is called, but the paint() method in my new UI delegate class is not called when the application starts.
    It just gets called when I explicitily (in this case, using a menu item) change the L&F of the application.
    If this informatio is not enough, I can add some excerpts of my code for the ease of understanding!!
    Thanks a lot!

    If I code a new custom component (extending JComponent, or extending the UI delegate of a standard component) and pretend it to be laf aware then I must create the corresponding UI delegate for each laf, like it happens to be with standard swing components. But I'm not sure it is feasible to create the UI delegates for all unknown existing custom lafs.You are right, this is never going to work. I suggest if you want to make your custom component look & feel aware, you design the way it displays around the l & f of other components that are part of j2se and have l&f implementations.
    http://download.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/javax/swing/plaf/ComponentUI.html
    There are instructions here:
    http://download.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/javax/swing/LookAndFeel.html
    >
    On the other side, if I create a custom laf then I will also create a custom UI delegate for each standard component, but I can not create UI delegate for all unknown existing custom components.
    The point here is that standard components and standard lafs are universally known, while custom components (or custom ui delegates) and custom lafs are not.
    So the question is: How does a swing developer deal with the case of a new custom component that will be used in an unknown custom laf?
    For instance:
    1. Custom text UI delegate for dealing with styled documents in JTextField. See {thread:id=2284487}.
    2. JTabbedPane with custom UI delegate that paints no tab if the component only contains one tab.
    In both cases I need a UI delegate for each known laf, but what happens if the application is using a laf that certainly will not be aware of this custom functionally?
    Thank you!

  • Writing a custom component with multiple fields.

    Does anyone have some pointers on writing a custom component that properly handles multiple input fields?
    An example usage might be as follows:
    Assume the following java classes:
    public interface Address {
        //... getters/setters for Address.
    public class Company{
        Address getAddress(){...};
    }The tag usage might be something like the following:
    <custom:address value="#{myCompanyBean.address}" />
    Extending UIComponentBase I can easily render the output and create all the needed input elements. I'm also able to properly retrieve the submitted values in the decode method. But I'm unsure how to handle the "UpdateModelValues" step. Do I simply over-ride processUpdates, or is there more housekeeping to be done?
    Thanks.

    I'm guessing that doing addChild inside createChildren causes an infinite loop.
    Why aren't you just doing this with MXML?  it would be a lot simpler.

  • Passing a reference / variable to a Custom Component

    Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me.
    It seems like a very simple problem but I cant for the life
    of me seem to work out a solution.
    I have created a Custom Component that extends from the
    UIComponent that consists of a “rev counter” style
    clock face etc….
    I want to use this component multiple times within my
    application – however feed it different data so for example
    each “rev counter” on the page will be displaying
    different data etc…..
    I want to be able to reuse my component and not have to
    create a new component every time I add a “rev counter”
    to my application, therefore I need some way of passing a reference
    / variable to the component (maybe from the <mx /> tag where
    I declare it in the MXML code ??? )
    <mx:Application ….
    xmlns:comps="components.*" …..>
    <comps:RevCounterComp id=”” (add something
    here to reference???) />
    </ mx:Application>
    Doing this will allow me to reuse my ONE custom component
    MANY times feeding it different data (different data provaiders for
    each instance of the single component)
    Hope this makes sense???
    Any help / advice is much appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Jon.

    Jon,
    jmryan's suggestion is the preferred way to go. This way you
    can use the simple MXML syntax that you described in your post.
    If your custom component is defined in ActionScript, you can
    use setters or the creationComplete event to update the component
    when the values are passed in from the tag (they are set *after*
    your constructor runs).
    Even easier, if your component is defined in MXML, you can
    add [Bindable] to your public field and then bind directly to it in
    the custom component's MXML code.

  • COMPONENTCONTROLLER deleted suddenly in ABAP Webdynpro custom component

    Hi  Gurus,
    I have copied one of the custom component and created a new one and implement the interface 'IF_UI_BUILDING_BLOCK' for FPM. Till then both the components are in active mode and working fine. Suddenly next day I was out of question when I found component controller is missing from both the component. Manual deletion is not possible that I know but really have no clue what happened. Need your help.

    This is strange.
    have you checked in the view context and in the list of used controller is it there.

  • Help with Custom Component: Ajax and ValueChangeListener

    Hello,
    I am trying to create a custom component that triggers an update via Ajax. However, I would also like to trigger a ValueChangeListener method from the same component, however I am unsure of how to obtain and trigger the ValueChangeEvent.
    The code I have so far in the Phase Listener is:
    private void handleAjaxRequest(PhaseEvent event) {
         FacesContext context = event.getFacesContext();
            HttpServletResponse response = (HttpServletResponse)context.getExternalContext().getResponse();
            Object object = context.getExternalContext().getRequest();
            if (!(object instanceof HttpServletRequest)) {
                return;
            HttpServletRequest request = (HttpServletRequest)object;
            HttpSession session =  request.getSession();
            String requestType = request.getParameter("jsflotRequestType");
            if (requestType != null && requestType.equalsIgnoreCase("jsflotchartValueChange")) {
                 //Trigger valueChangeEvents
                 log.info("Handling JSFlot Chart Value Change Event.");
    }What I am looking for though, is some information regarding how to obtain the ValueChangeListener from the request/session objects.
    The component tag is called like this:
    <jsflot:flotChart id="valueTimeChart"
         value="#{chartMbean.chartSeries}"
         valueChangeListener="#{chartMbean.valueChangeListener}"Any help would be greatly appreciated!
