Customized Error/Info  Messages in ADF FACES Pages

hi every one...
I need to display customized eerror/info messages in a ADF Faces application.
How can i use adf:message componenet to do this...

Hi,
af:messages show all messages added to the JSF message stack
FacesContext fctx = FacesContext.getCurrenInstance();
fctx.addMessage("Some Name Strinng here", new FacesMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_ERROR, "Your error message here",null));
If <"Some Name Strinng here"> is the id of a component then the error message is also shown below this component
For customizing error messages - e.g. translating Exceptions into useful user information, see SRDemo, which can be downloaded and installed through JDeveloper Help-->Check for Updates.

  • Custom error/info message in workflow

    Hello everybody!
    I´m developing a workflow that have a lot of steps as calling scripts, check some conditions launch resource actions and generate some files. I would like to show in IDM the result of the process and if it fails exactly in which step. So I thought to create an activity that checks if the step is ok and if it doesn´t show an error message. Is it possible? Which would be the best approaching for showing the error?
    Thanks and regards.

    An alternative is to use the "ActionResult" tag. I have a feeling it's identical back-end code to what you're calling. It might just help make the code more readable. Or less depending on your style of coding... :)
    Here's one I grabbed out of the sample dir:
    <Action>
    <ActionResult name='ProvisionStatus' type='message' overwrite='true'>
        <message name='UI_SUNRISE_XML_SCHEDULED'>
            <ref>sunrise.date</ref>
        </message>
    </ActionResult>
    </Action>Anyway, it's an option.

  • JBO-35007 in Portletized ADF Faces Page and alternative scenarios

    Hi all,
    I've started a new thread to address one of the problems referred to here Issues with Faces -> Portlet Bridge and ADF Faces
    In short, the issue arises when portletizing an existing ADF Faces page that uses an ADF BC bound af:Table on the page. I've got a very simple ADF Faces page that has an af:Table on it bound to the employees table in the Oracle HR schema. The af:Table allows sorting and has an af:selectTableOne in it's selection facet which contains an af:commandButton. The app works fine when run as a JSF page.
    However, when I use the JSF-Portlet bridge to publish the page as a portlet (following all of the steps in the Web Center Developer's guide, including changing the state_saving_method to "server"), and placing the portlet on a ADF Faces page in a different project, I can consistently create JBO-35007 errors by:
    * Sorting the data in the portlet by clicking the column header
    * Selecting a different row and pressing the af:commandButton
    Clearly, the current row of the iterator is not being saved properly. I can (of course) "fix" this behavior by setting EnableTokenValidation to "false" in the page definition of the ADF Faces page that has been portletized, but this has obvious side effects.
    Should this behavior work as I am trying to implement it? Perhaps it doesn't make sense to "select" an item in a portlet like this (what am I going to do, as the parent application doesn't have access to the selected row information).
    I can, however, think of a good use case:
    User is using a web-store type application to browse items and add them to his shopping cart. Off to the side, we've got a portlet that shows recently purchased items for the user. User clicks item in that portlet (or selects and hits submit - as in my non-working example, above) and then the main web store application navigates to that item in the "main" section. How could I implement something like this? Any navigation case in the portlet is not exposed to the main application. Perhaps there is a different model by which to do this.... I cannot use a PDK event-type approach (this limits my use of Faces to create portlets), so I'm in a bind.
    Thoughts and discussion much appreciated,
    John

    Peter,
    This should be so simple to re-create; here's my project: http://download.yousendit.com/F017E4D457FFA7F3
    It uses the HR sample schema from a stock 10gr2 database. Be sure to set up the ADF BC connection in the model project, build and deploy the portlets, then try running TestPage.jspx in the UserInterface project. You can play around with the pagedef in the Portlet project to see the JBO-35007 error - right now, EnableTokenValidation is set to false - you can change it to true to see the error.

  • Element type "translatable" must be declared. Message - my first faces page

    Good day,
    I kept getting this stack trace on my first adf faces page test.
    I am deploying the application on glassfish but I don't think that it should be a problem because I have deployed the adffaces demo.

    Regards,

  • Change the default noscript message in ADF faces

    Hi, I'm developing an application using ADF faces, and i've noticed that all my pages have a <noscript>This page uses JavaScript and requires a JavaScript enabled browser.Your browser is not JavaScript enabled.</noscript>
    Is there a way to change this default message to something more useful? or maybe even styling the message

    i'm leaning towards that thought myself.. i was kind of hoping that maybe there was some default bundle i could add a magic property that would overwrite the default:(

  • How to set values of a parameterized message in ADF Faces?

    Hi all,
    i've got the following problem: I want to set the values of a parameterized message before i add the message to the FacesContext.
    Contents of the message resource bundle:
    testPage.successMsg.create=The device {0} was created successfully!
    Code within backing bean method:
    String message = getStringFromBundle("testPage.successMsg.create");
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addMessage(null, new FacesMessage(message));
    In Struts/ADF UIX the following code did the job:
    protected void setUIXInfoMessage(HttpServletRequest request, String key, Object[] args)
    MessageData msgs = new MessageData();
    MessageResources mr = this.getResources(request);
    String msg = "";
    if (mr != null)
    msg = mr.getMessage(request.getLocale(), key, args);
    msgs.addMessage(null, msg, null, UIConstants.MESSAGE_TYPE_INFO);
    request.setAttribute(UIX_MESSAGE_KEY, msgs);
    Can anyone help me with this problem? I have searched a lot in the Oracle ADF Development Guide and within forum, but did not find any solution.
    Another interesting thing is, how to set the parameters from jspx-Code.
    How can i achieve the same results in ADF Faces corresponding to the following UIX-Code:
    <boundAttribute name="title">
    <messageFormat format="${nls['deleteTip.confirmation']}">
    <dataObject source="${bindings.TipName}"/>
    </messageFormat>
    </boundAttribute>
    Resource Bundle:
    deleteTip.confirmation=Do you really want to delete the tip {0}?
    Another question:
    What are the corresponding elements in ADF Faces corresponding to <concat> and <if> in UIX or what possibilites exist in ADF Faces to dynamically concatenate strings depending on certain conditions?
    I know, these are many questions. I am familiar with UIX, but now i have to start developing applications with ADF Faces and there are some things i don't find corresponding equivalents.
    Thanks in advance!

    Stefan

    Hi,
    SRDemo shows you how to do this declratively
    <h:outputFormat value="#{res['srcreate.confirmPanel.message']}"
    escape="false" id="nextButton">
    <f:param value="#{requestScope.SRDEMO_CREATED_SVRID}"/>
    </h:outputFormat>
    where the <f:param ...> element sets the value of the variable
    To programmatically access internationalized strings, SRDemo uses
    private static ResourceBundle getBundle() {
    FacesContext ctx = getFacesContext();
    UIViewRoot uiRoot = ctx.getViewRoot();
    Locale locale = uiRoot.getLocale();
    ClassLoader ldr = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader();
    return ResourceBundle.getBundle(ctx.getApplication().getMessageBundle(),
    locale, ldr);
    public static String getStringFromBundle(String key) {
    ResourceBundle bundle = getBundle();
    return getStringSafely(bundle, key, null);
    You take it from there and put it to a FacesMessage, If it uses parameters I guess you will have to parse the string

  • Message bundle, replace default "Required" message in ADF faces

    Hello,
    I hope i can ask some ADF faces questions here,
    I am trying to replace the default msg that adf faces give for different components
    I successfully created a resource properties file which includes 2 msgs, one is to replace the default value given to required msg, and other is just a msg i will use for one of my buttons.
    oracle.adf.view.faces.UIXEditableValue.REQUIRED=Enter number please
    button_name=Submit
    I specify this bundle in my application node in my faces config file.
    I also load it with loadbudle component in the page that i want to use it.
    now i can call my second msg "button_name" fine from with in the page, so I know that I have my file set up correctly,
    but the first msg, which is the key for the required msg, does not work
    em i missing something??
    is there a different setup when trying to override msgs.
    Thank you

    I found a solution,
    I hope there is a better one,
    What i did is a got the source for ADF faces found the XML file where all the msgs are located (MessageBundle.xrts). Then using a tool that comes with the source files XRTSMakeBundle, I compiled the XML file, and it created java files with all the msgs. So I compiled them and replaced the classes in the ADF faces api jar.
    this seems like a long work around, in JSF RI, all you have to do is extend the key in the resource bundle and poof it works, I couldn't get that working here.
    This works, seems like a lot of work for a simple task!!!
    any other solutions out there????

  • Customizing the Tree Component inn ADF Faces..

    HI,
    I am using the ADF Faces Tree Component and was wondering wheteher we
    can use a specific theme instead of the default one..
    The scenario's i am looking at are
    1) Changing the Style of the Selected Node
    2) Programatically can i assign a different styling for a Specific
    Node (Previously Selected) in the Tree ??
    3) And any info reg Enabling the Drag and Drop functionality ?? As of
    now i don't think it is supported. Are there any plans of it being
    supported in the furture releases??
    Thanks
    Sateesh

    Hi,
    1) See tree skin selectors: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange/jsf/doc/skin-selectors.html
    2) You can reference a managed bean for providing the inline style sheet on a component. This however only works when the tree is re-drawn and not dynamically
    3) Drag and drop doesn't work in 10.1.3.x. In 11 this may work - havent tested yet - using a client listener component

  • JDev 11, Should we use f:verbatim tag in ADF faces pages?

    When you type something in a facet in a jspx page it automaticaly get into an f:verbatim tag.
    yet in the code it has a warning:
    Using f:verbatium tag can cause undesirable results when used with PPR navigation. For inlining styles or javascript, af:resource should be used instead.
    Also if you use call and return from a dialog page, the page is procken
    [http://adfbugs.blogspot.com/2009/08/returning-from-dialog-to-page-that-has.html]
    Is this a bug? or we should not use f:verbatim?

    You shouldn't be using f:verbatim to just display text on your page instead put the text into one of the output components - such as outputText or the formatted outputText.

  • (2nd POST) The correct way to do "custom layout" with ADF Faces

    Hi all,
    I need the capability to do custom layout of ADF Faces page (other than the default layout we got after we drag data controls). For example I need layout like below :
    Order Number : xxxx ............................................................Gross : 999,999
    Order Date : xx/xx/xxxx ........................................................Discount : 999,999
    Customer : code - name.........................................................Tax : 999,999
    Salesman : code - name.........................................................Netto : 999,999
    (the dotted line represents spaces)
    Currently I do it with </afh:rowLayout> plus.. many..many </h:panelGrid>, so I am looking a better way. what is that ?
    Below is sample of my code :
    <afh:rowLayout>

    Xtanto,
    yes. The way to build such layouts is to nest containers

  • The correct way to do "custom layout" with ADF Faces

    Hi all,
    I need the capability to do custom layout of ADF Faces page (other than the default layout we got after we drag data controls). For example I need layout like below :
    Order Number : xxxx ............................................................Gross : 999,999
    Order Date : xx/xx/xxxx ........................................................Discount : 999,999
    Customer : code - name.........................................................Tax : 999,999
    Salesman : code - name.........................................................Netto : 999,999
    (the dotted line represents spaces)
    Currently I do it with </afh:rowLayout> plus.. many..many </h:panelGrid>, so I am looking a better way. what is that ?
    Below is sample of my code :
    <afh:rowLayout>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="100" style="font-size:80.0%;">
    <f:verbatim>
    Order Number.
    </f:verbatim>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="10">
    <f:verbatim>
    </f:verbatim>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="400">
    <af:outputText value="#{bindings.SphView1Spno.inputValue}"
    inlineStyle="font-size:80.0%;"/>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="10"/>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="60" style="font-size:80.0%;">
    <f:verbatim>
    Gross
    </f:verbatim>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1">
    <f:verbatim>
    </f:verbatim>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="100" style="text-align:right;">
    <af:outputText value="#{bindings.SphView1Gross.inputValue}"
    inlineStyle="font-size:80.0%; text-align:right;">
    <f:convertNumber groupingUsed="false"
    pattern="#{bindings.SphView1Gross.format}"/>
    </af:outputText>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="100"
    style="padding:1.0%; text-align:left;">
    <af:outputText value="#{bindings.Valuta.inputValue}"
    inlineStyle="font-size:80.0%;"/>
    </h:panelGrid>
    </afh:rowLayout>
    <afh:rowLayout>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="100" style="font-size:80.0%;">
    <f:verbatim>
    SP Date
    </f:verbatim>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="10">
    <f:verbatim>
    </f:verbatim>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="400">
    <af:outputText value="#{bindings.SphView1Spdate.inputValue}"
    inlineStyle="font-size:80.0%;">
    <f:convertDateTime pattern="#{bindings.SphView1Spdate.format}"/>
    </af:outputText>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="10"/>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="60" style="font-size:80.0%;">
    <f:verbatim>
    Discount
    </f:verbatim>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1">
    <f:verbatim>
    </f:verbatim>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="100" style="text-align:right;">
    <af:outputText value="#{bindings.SphView1DiscBp.inputValue}"
    inlineStyle="font-size:80.0%;">
    <f:convertNumber groupingUsed="false"
    pattern="#{bindings.SphView1DiscBp.format}"/>
    </af:outputText>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <h:panelGrid columns="1" width="100"
    style="padding:1.0%; text-align:left;">
    <af:outputText value="#{bindings.Valuta.inputValue}"
    inlineStyle="font-size:80.0%;"/>
    </h:panelGrid>
    </afh:rowLayout>
    Thank you very much,

    Unfotunately nesting layouts or creating custom layouts is the best approach at this time. You may want to take a look at the folloing library to replace of your verbatim tags.

  • ADF FACES (10.1.3)---How to create custom service methods?

    Hi,
    I need to put some custom service method in my ADF Faces App. Tried the ways for 9.0.5 but in 10.1.3, there is no Data Action (Servlet, I believe). I was able to expose the method to the client interface, which means I can see the method in the Data Control Palette. When I try to add it to a JSP, it appeas to be either a link or a button.
    Can I bind service methods to a submit button? How to do it? Thank you so much for the help.

    hi,
    first of all thank you vry much.its nice to see yours replies.Actually,that was my first post. Well, i got your steps.But still m having a some doubts.
    i'l tell u the scenario.
    i'm using one java class object called CD as complex datatype.i have created ths in separete class from my main class whc i m gng to expose as web service.
    Ths CD complex type has three elements(Basic datatypes)
    label(string),artist(string),price(int)
    i have created xsd file for ths CD data type as u told.
    Now While creating Web Service from java class,in third step of custom mapping
    it asks for three things.
    First is Java class
    (Whc one i should specify...My main java class whc contains methods
    or whc contains jst defination for CD type)
    Second thing is XML qualified name - here i'l specify my schema whc i created
    and Wht is tht third thing
    Serializer Class ????
    Thank you vry much.

  • I don't see the components ADF faces in my JSPX page...

    Hi,
    I don't see my components ADF in my JSPX page when I drag and drop them. I have to run my page to see its contents...
    Can somebody help me please. Is it exists an option in Jdeveloper to mask jspx pages contents?
    I use Jdeveloper 10.1.3.4
    Thks,
    M.

    Hi Shay,
    Thank you very much for the blog's link, I found the solution in metalink, Doc ID: 382812.1 .
    There are many causes that make JSF tags not being displayed properly.
    For me, it was du to the web.xml file :
    ADF Faces pages do not display correctly when using the FacesPageCachingFilter (ADF Faces Cache).
    You can put the following lines in your web.xml file in comment during Design Time:
    +<!--filter>+
    +<filter-name>PCF</filter-name>+
    +<filter-class>oracle.webcache.adf.filter.FacesPageCachingFilter</filter-class>+
    +</filter-->+
    I comment the filter-mapping too :
    +<!--filter-mapping>+
    +<filter-name>PCF</filter-name>+
    +<servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>+
    +<dispatcher>REQUEST</dispatcher>+
    +<dispatcher>FORWARD</dispatcher>+
    +</filter-mapping-->+
    Now, all works fine.
    Thks again.
