Customizing Flash Galleries by editing the XML

The controls within the Web tab allow you to customize the Lightroom Flash Gallery templates in a lot of ways. However, you can customize them much further by editing the XML files that are generated when you export a gallery. This requires almost no knowledge of Flash or HTML, and can be done with almost any text editor.
Here are few examples of what you can do:
Add a background image
Turn off (hide) the Title Bar and/or Menu Bar
Change the width, transparency, and color of borders around thumbnails and images
Turn thumbnail and image drop shadows on/off
Change the transition between images, including straight cut
Change image and transition durations
Change the color and transparency of all parts of a gallery including image and thumbnail area backgrounds and borders, individual buttons parts, scroll bar parts, etc
Change the height of the captions display area
Change text fonts and sizes
And much more
To start playing with this, simply open the style.xml file found within an exported gallery inside the ..resources/styles folder. You can also preview the gallery by double clicking on the index.html file, then make changes to the style.xml file in your text editor, save, and then refresh your browser to see the effect. Once youve achieved the look you want, you can copy your edited style.xml file into any gallery you export.
Note: any text editor will work, but using an app that has good HTML or XML editing features (Adobe Dreamweaver for example) will make it much easier.
Ive posted a few tips and tricks articles about how to do this on our blog at http://blog.bluefire.tv and plan to add more from time to time.

gsimpson,
There is no way via the XML to change the behavior where the smallest rendition will scale down to fit the window. Since the gallery itself scales to fit the window, scroll bars would need to appear on the image itself if the window is too small. This is in fact the behavior of the galleries in B4 if I remember correctly, but there is no way to achieve that with the 1.0 version.
However, you can achieve your goal with a bit of html work. One easy way it to "fix" the size of your gallery within your web page (by using pixel values in the embed code for example) such that it is set big enough that the smallest rendition will not be scaled.
Or, if you can do fairly advanced HTML you could let your gallery scale up, but not below a certain size. To do that, you'd need to put the gallery inside a "container" within your html page, (e.g a div or table cell) and then limit how small that container can be, and make sure that the container itself will grow to fill the available space.
Another alternative would be to make your own "small" renditions, that are so small that they will not scale at the gallery's minimum size. Speaking of minimum size of the gallery, wouldn't it be nice if you could set that? Who knows, maybe someone will contribute that code to the AMG open source project...

This Apple document explains the difference between the Library file and the xml file:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
The xml file is actually an exported version of the Library file that iTunes automatically creates.
If you want to change the playcounts, go to this site:
    http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/index.php
and do a search for playcount and you'll see a script to change playcounts.

  • Can anyone help me edit the xml in Feedburner?

I successfully resubmitted my podcast to Itunes so that now it only takes the podcasts, and all six episodes are there.  Yay!
Problem is now that it shows it created by "[email protected]"
I can see just where that is in the xml feed, but when I try to edit it, nothing happens.
also the website sends it just to the page for podcasts, but that's ok as the tabs are all at the top and anyone who wants to can click ont he tabs to read more. And I think having it link to the entire blog was part of the problem in the first place. I'm just concerned about the "noreply" thing.
Here is the podcast on itunes:
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/new-york-irish-arts/id435952770
The offending line in the xml is this:
    <managingEditor>[email protected] (Gwen Orel)</managingEditor>
        <lastBuildDate>Wed
But I don't know how to get in there to change it.  Help....

As far as I can deduce you have created the podcast using Blogger's online service, then submitted the feed URL they give you to Feedburner: the Feedburner feed, which has been submitted to iTunes, is at
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/IWRRu
Both Blogger and Feedeburner create and host the feed themselves: it's not possibile for you to edit this directly. You have to make any required changes in Blogger.
There is a bit of a mystery over the offending entry. That area on the iTunes Store should be populated from the 'itunes:author' tag; there is such a tag, containing just your name. ITunes does not, in theory, read the 'managingEditor' tag, so why it's displaying the contents of this tag I can't say. It's all something you would have to take up with Blogger: but these free service come at the price of accepting their way of doing things and one of the things which is liable to happen is that they like links back to their own site. That one is a bit odd, though.

  • Can I edit the system file Manifest.XML in Word for Windows? (there's a reason for doing this)

I renamed a file directory containing several PDFs. Consequently, Adobe Digital Editions says these files are missing when I try to open them and look at notes I made. There seems to be an obvious solution, but I'm unfamiliar with XML and don't want to screw things up. The file locations and a lot of other information for Digital Editions is in an XML file called Manifest. If I can edit the XML file to show the correct directory, I expect I'd be able to see these files and recover my notes. I'm unsure what Word for Windows may do (e.g., add or delete characters) when I edit and save the new Manifest.  That might corrupt the Manifest and be extremely counterproductive.
Is editing the file locations in Word for Windows safe, so long as Digital Editions isn't open when I do my editing?

I can confirm that Notepad++ can happily edit manifest.xml files, but as Jim_Lester says, make a backup (especially if you are not used to XML).
You may well find that if you Open the .epub files from their new location explicitly from ADE (ctrl-O) that you will both be able to read documents and see the notes.
I can't vouch for that; but if it works I'd recommend it over editing the manifest file.

  • Source files for flash galleries

Does anybody know if the source files for the flash galleries are to be made available as were those for the CS2 galleries? I have mentioned this in another post but thought it appropriate to make a separate post.

They are. However replacing the swf file in Lightroom to generate new galleries on a windows machine is a little complicated (it is easier on a MAC). It was straightforward in CS2 but actually requires a dissembler to work with the template file inside Lightroom. So for now I think I will just try editing the xml files of the uploaded galleries as that sort of stuff is way beyond me and I have just got a headache trying to understand the Adobe instructions!
Hopefully some clever people will do all the hard work and lots of new Flash galleries will soon be around. There are some nice ones already created take a look

    http://opensource.adobe.com/amg/samples/sfbay3/

As these are on the Adobe developer site hopefully they will soon be available for download for Lightroom.

  • Updating flash from a dynamically changing XML file

Creating a non-interactive status display: I want to have the
flash display reflect data in a server-based XML-file. So far this
is easy. But I want the display to change everytime the XML file
changes-- in order to reflect status changes. I've used an
XMLConnector and specified it and the trigger in the first frame.
The Flash code catches and shows the XML values initially . But
when I edit the XML file, the new values are never picked up by
Flash- its almost as though the values are cached. How do I get
Flash to regularly be updated from a changing XML file? I've also
tried putting the trigger in a loop- but that doesn't work
    either.

I DID find a solution with setInterval, but there is still a
    problem of a diffeent sort.
When using XMLConnector, it appears that
XMLConnector.trigger() is the thing that goes out and gets new data
    from the server. so:
    function checkForData():Void {
    myXML.trigger();
<<handle new values of bound data>>
    var intervalID:Number = setInterval(checkForData, 10000);
works very well by executing the trigger every 10000
timeunits. This all works when run in the Flash Player. However, if
I embed the thing in a webpage (with either FireFox or IE7 or 6),
It stops triggering after the first time. Interestingly if I also
run the Flash Player version, then the web version keeps updating,
but stops if I kill the Player. So, I'm wondering: whats up with
    this?

  • Problem: Custom Flash Professional Component

    Hi,
I just installed a copy of Flash Builder 4.5, and am attempting to create a custom "flash professional component" in the Design mode of an mxml project. The documentations mentioned that in order to create this component, I have to press on the 'Create in Flash Professional' button in the properties window.
Here's the problem: clicking on the button brings up a window to name the component, then clicking 'create' brings up Flash Pro, but that's about it. I was told an edit window will show up in Flash Pro, but it doesn't happen. Flash Pro just initializes into the start page and does nothing else.
Am I doing anything wrong? Please help, thanks in advance!

  • Is there a way to edit the saved StartCfg.cfg file on a Linksys SRW switch?

I have a SRW248G4 switch that I want to edit the StartCfg.cfg file to use as a template for several new switches.  The content of the startcfg.cfg file looks to be binary or mostly binary.  Is there a way to get the switch to save and load the file in text format similar to the Cisco switches?
An alternate option is to create a templete config on one of the new switches with all the standard settings, save it, upload that template config to the other new switches and change the things that are different/unique from the web interface.  This is possible but will take a lot longer.
    Thanks,
    Kerry Melcher, CCNP

You cannot edit the library file itself, but you could perhaps edit the XLM file and then import that, basically following the procedure you use when the library file has been damaged:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
You'll need to be very careful about editing the XML, though, as it's really easy to completely mess up your library if you edit the wrong thing. Make absolutely sure you have backup copies of the original iTunes library file and XML file, so you can put them back just in case something does go wrong.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is There A Way To Edit The Raw iTunes Library File?

I have thousands upon thousands of songs. I'm of a mind to (in effect) do a find/replace on every instance of a phrase in one particular field and don't want to have to go though every single one manually, since that would take forever.
    Anyone have any ideas?

My requirement is as follows.I have created xml form by using xml template and i displayed this xml form by using Km document iview.  I need tochange the hyper link color in the xml form content. I dont want to go for manual process by editing the xml form. because i have several hundreds of xml forms.

    Hi Ramana,
The most convenient way to change the hyper links is by using the Theme Editor. Go to System Administration --> Portal Display --> Select Theme --> Component-Specific Styles --> Links --> Function/Result Link.
    Hope this helps.

  • Editing an xml file?

Hi there. I have slideshows that are managed by simple xml documents. In my old system, clients would simply edit the xml doc, but I have not found a way to do this in InContext. Can anyone help?

    Hi erinclark,
InContext Editing can only edit pages with valid HTML mark-up with any of the following doctypes:
    "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
    "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
    "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN”
    "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN"
    (from: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/InContext_Editing#Release_Notes)
You may also notice that when you create a new XML document in Dreamweaver the options to insert InContext Editing regions are disabled.
    Best regards,
    Corey

  • Cannot edit the manifest.xml in flash builder extension builder 2.1

In flash builder I installed the extension builder 2.1 to build a photoshop extension. The basic structure created automatically the manifest.xml file but i cannot edit this file in the editor and If I edit outside of the flash builder it does not reflect the changes.
What I want is to add an icon for my extension.

    SOLVED!!
    ===========
When creating an adobe extension project in Adobe extension Builder with Flash Builder 4.6, a folder ".stage-extension" is created but not listed in the directory in the Package Explorer Tab. However the manifest.xml file in the bin-debug folder is shown giving the impression that it could be edited.
To edit the manifest.xml file, locate the location of your project and find: YourPorjectName>.stage-extension>CSXS>manifest.xml
Edit this manifest.xml for the changes to apply.
