Customizing using BC4J Component Extension

Hi,
I need to extend a SupplierSitesVO.
I downloaded the VO from the server to my local machine and opened the VO in Tutorial.jpr
I also brought all the dependent objects by referring to server.xml to the respective folder, but when I am trying to rebuild Tutorial.jpr, its showing me lots of compilation errors saying that many components not found.
So, my questions are,
1>What objects do i need to download into my local machine in order to compile successfully the above?
2> I have downloaded apps.zip file and included the path in the classpath option in JDeveloper but it does not help. What other files do i need to download to do any OA extension?
Please help me out.
Thanks,
Arun

Hi,
Ok. Let me give you an example,
Suppose I need to modify the VO named PreferencesVO.xml that resides in $JAVA_TOP/oracle/apps/fnd/preferences/server
So, I created exactly the above directory structure i.e. from '/oracle/apps/fnd/preferences/server' in my JDEV_USER_HOME in my local machine.
Then I copied the PreferencesVO.xml into the above directory in my local machine from server.
Then I opened the above VO in my own workspace and project (not the tutorial one).
I know and went through the above XML and it refers lots of dependents objects and obviously those I have not brought to my local machine and so when I rebuild my project it gives huge number of errors and which is expected as it did not find the dependent objects in my local machine.
Now, my question is where to copy all the dependent objects in my local machine? Do I need to copy all the related class files and dependent components into my local machine from the server? and if yes, then in which directory do i need to copy?
I hope I am clear in this. Please help me out.
Thanks,
Arun

  • Error while recording process using a component with a custom data type

    Hello,
    I created a component that returns a CheckAttachmentResult object. This object contains an int named resultCode and a String named resultMessage. In the CheckAttachmentResult class, I do have a getter and a setter function for both values.
    When I use the component, I can retrieve the CheckAttachmentResult object, see the values that are set (i.e. resultMessage and resultCode) and work on them (for instance build a condition on the resultCode).
    However when the current process goes into a subprocess after having used this component, I get the following error:

    This seems to be recorded in CAR#405941.  The whole thing is a bit strange but I will try to go over the potential workarounds as best as I can.  I tested a lot of these myself and here is what I found.
    1. Make sure the custom control you have made was created in LabVIEW 2012 or you save it to a previous version.  If you save it to a previous version you might also need to open the .ctl in LabVIEW 2012 and resave it (I needed to do this).  I tried creating my own control in 2012 as well as saving the control to a previous version, both worked but I did not end up with the same result (I don't understand this but I wanted to mention it so that you knew).
    2. It seems that you are able to make the shared variable programmatically by modifying the community example to fit your needs.  If you do not need to create many variables this may be the best option if it works for you.
    I would also try adding the variable from the LabVIEW project you are working on.  This was not a direct troubleshooting step but there are multiple ways to do things in LabVIEW and sometimes one of them works while the other does not.
    Edit: Community Example is here https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-16863

  • Custom OCS application using BC4J

    I am using the APIs for Workspaces to write an application we can use to migrate data (using BC4J) from a custom application into Workspaces. According to the documentation, any application using these APIs must run on the server, yet there is no ability to create a new OC4J on the server.
    What is the correct way for me to do this? Can I write an application which uses BC4J and deploy it to tha OCS tier?
    Thanks.

  • What is the benefit of using BC4J?

    Folks,
    After working with BC4J for three months, I still can not convince my manager to use BC4J. His major arguments are:
    1. Which applications or web sites are implemented using BC4J? Are they real application or just a demo. For the time being, I even can not show him a demo, not to say any real web applications.
    2. His developers told him that the O-R mapping provided by BC4J, which is probabably one of the key benefit of BC4J can be easily coded manually with a couple of days work for the current task and we have the full control over our own code while BC4J is not an open source and the lack of the support from Oracle really worries him.
    Can someone in Jdev team give me a clear evidence to convince him?
    Thanks,
    Yibing

    [*]With regard to struts integration with BC4J, I have done some investigations of the new release and know that BC4JActionForm is only good for simple view and does not work for a joint table view as I have reported a few days ago in this group and no response is received yet.
    This should not be the case. Should work for any view object. View objects can contain join queries with any number of updateable tables in them. Please email me the URL to the forum posting so I can track down the issue.
    [*]I have been recently told indirectly from Oracle that the consulting group at oracle are not using BC4J and instead they think that BC4J only applies to simple applications with limited number of tables and relationships.
    This is plain incorrect. We have very large applications using BC4J both internal in Oracle Applications, for Oracle iLearning, and many external customers. Many of these projects have involved (and are currently involving) Oracle Consulting. Not sure where got this information, but it is incorrect.
    [*]Other commecial O-R mapping products such as top-link should be used for large applications
    The key difference between Oracle9i TopLink and Oracle9i BC4J has nothing to do with the size of your project. The fundamental difference is that toplink is for customers who have already written a custom application framework and who require just a persistence architecture, because they've already hand-written code to implement all of the other J2EE design patterns that are required to build real J2EE applications.
    Conversely, BC4J is for customers who want a complete J2EE Application Framework (and tightly integrated, award-winning toolset to go with it) to avoid having to write, test, debug, and maintain their own application framework.
    There is simply no evidence to backup your statement that BC4J only works for small applications. I am aware of at least 20 (and by now after a summer full of training additional Oracle Apps development teams in BC4J, perhaps over 30) that are using BC4J for full-scale, self-service J2EE web applications. Our BC4J reference info pages (link in this thread above) have references to customers who are using BC4J for large applications as well.

    Hope this helps.

  • How to use BC4J with JDeveloper 9i in a Team

    Hello
    I'm not sure if I'm to stupid, but to say the truth I didn't found the clue how to share a BC4J Application between several develeopers. Maybe someone can give me a hint.
    That's my situation:
    Our team is going to develop a web application using BC4J and BC4J-JSP, nothing special I think.
    But my problem is, that BC4J and especially the wizards refer to a lot of different files. Even simple changes often result in multiple files being changed in different parts of the project.
    Creating a view link between view objects in two packages for example changes the view objects in both packages. Also the project (.jpr) file or several "BC4J.xcfg" files are changed very often.
    So it is not easy to find parts of code from which I can say they are owned by one developer and others which are owned by another. Most often, if you have to merge the work of different developers, you have to edit the BC4J-XML-Files using an external editor. Or did someone find a better way? Please tell me!
    So, what is the best way to share code between developers?
    Should I partition the application by packages?
    - advantage:
    it allows a fine partitioning
    - disadvantages:
    it has the great danger that BC4J makes changes in other packages which will be overseen when merging.
    Should I create a projects for each developer and distribute code between the projects using libraries?
    - advantage: no unseen changes will happen, as the libraries are readonly.
    - disadvantages: no view links between view objects in different projects (Libraries) are possible! Also a lot of "load errors" can occure when updating a library, which have to be manually corrected in the dependent projects.
    Are source code management systems a real help in this problem or do they just "manage" the problem? I already tried SCM and PVCS but was not very happy with the way of working. As JDeveloper is not "really easy" to use with theese tools.
    So I would like to get any hints how other developers are dealing with this problem. Are you using BC4J with JDeveloper 9i in a team? Please tell me how do it and how you have partitioned your application.
    Thanks in advance
    Frank Brandstetter

    Hi,
    I'm not sure whether my answer is good enough for you, but it might help.
    First of all, you have to use JDev 9.0.3, because 9.0.2 has big problems with associations/view links between objects in different projects.
    Creating a view link between view objects in two packages for example changes the view objects in both packages. Also the project (.jpr) file or several "BC4J.xcfg" files are changed very often.This is not completely true in 9.0.3, as you may choose not to create an accessor in the imported object (and usually you don't need it neither!). As for bc4j.xcfg, there is a trick: define a "standard" database connection name to use all over your project! This will prevent modifying these files all the time!
    Should I create a projects for each developer and distribute code between the projects using libraries?
    - advantage: no unseen changes will happen, as the libraries are readonly.
    - disadvantages: no view links between view objects in different projects (Libraries) are possible! Also a lot of "load errors" can occure when updating a library, which have to be manually corrected in the dependent projects.I would say, projects for each application component, which by chance will be managed by a single developer at a time.
    As for the disadvantages, in 9.0.3 you are able to properly create associations and links using read-only objects. Hopefully, the release version will solve some generation inconsistencies...
    Concerning the errors that occur when modifying a library, this might be balanced by the relative independence of the components... If you are able to develop following the dependency tree, you will not meet the problem very often.
    Are source code management systems a real help in this problem or do they just "manage" the problem? I already tried SCM and PVCS but was not very happy with the way of working. As JDeveloper is not "really easy" to use with theese tools.Indeed, I do not have a SCMS really able to manage merges in the BC4J XML files... We rather try not to arrive there!
    So I would like to get any hints how other developers are dealing with this problem. Are you using BC4J with JDeveloper 9i in a team? Please tell me how do it and how you have partitioned your application.I really hope that my hints will help.

  • Issue in Binding Custom controller to Component Controller

    Dear All,
    I have enhanced a standard component ERP_H.
    I created a custom controller with context nodes BTSTATUS, BTSTATUSH
    I enhanced the component controller with context node BTSTATUS, BTSTATUSH
    Now when i try to bind the custom controller to component controller using this code in the context class of my custom controller
    bind to component controller
      owner->do_context_node_binding(
               iv_controller_type = CL_BSP_WD_CONTROLLER=>CO_TYPE_COMPONENT
               iv_target_node_name = 'BTSTATUS'  " component controller context node
               iv_node_2_bind = BTStatus ).
    its not working since this context node in component controller is not the standard one but the custom added one.
    Am i missing something, or is there any way to bind customer context node in custom controller to customer context node in component controller.
    regards,
    pradeep

    Hi pradeep,
        Try the other way round go to the context class in the component controller and paste the following code in the
    create_contextnode( context node = name of the node to be linked).
    *owner->do_context_node_binding(
            iv_controller_type = cl_bsp_wd_controller=>co_type_custom   <-----linking from component to custom
            iv_target_node_name = 'BUILHEADER' "target node: component controller node
            iv_node_2_bind = BUILHEADER ). "source node: current node.
    See if this works.
    Thanks

  • Issue with custom receive Pipeline component

    I have been facing issue with creating a custom receive pipeline component. The Pipeline is to receive large file, if the file size is large it has to read the incoming stream to a folder and pass only some meta data through the MessageBox. The Execute method
    I am using is,
    #region IComponent Members
    public IBaseMessage Execute(IPipelineContext pContext, IBaseMessage pInMsg)
    if (_largeFileLocation == null || _largeFileLocation.Length == 0)
    _largeFileLocation = Path.GetTempPath();
    if (_thresholdSize == null || _thresholdSize == 0)
    _thresholdSize = 4096;
    if (pInMsg.BodyPart.GetOriginalDataStream().Length > _thresholdSize)
    Stream originalStream = pInMsg.BodyPart.GetOriginalDataStream();
    string largeFilePath = _largeFileLocation + "\\" + pInMsg.MessageID.ToString() + ".zip";
    FileStream fs = new FileStream(largeFilePath, FileMode.Create);
    // Write message to disk
    byte[] buffer = new byte[1];
    int bytesRead = originalStream.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length);
    while (bytesRead != 0)
    fs.Flush();
    fs.Write(buffer, 0, buffer.Length);
    bytesRead = originalStream.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length);
    fs.Flush();
    fs.Close();
    // Create a small xml file
    string xmlInfo = "<ns0:MsgInfo xmlns:ns0='http://SampleTestPL.SchemaLocation'><LargeFilePath>" + largeFilePath + "</LargeFilePath></ns0:MsgInfo>";
    byte[] byteArray = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(xmlInfo);
    MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(byteArray);
    pInMsg.BodyPart.Data = ms;
    return pInMsg;
    #endregion
    Here I want the xml to be dropped in to the File share Eg: E:\Dropbox\PL\send and and the entire message to be dropped in the folder Eg: E:\Dropbox\sendLarge. so in the ReceivePipeline properties i set like
    And in the send port the destination i give is E:\Dropbox\PL\send.
    The issue is both the xml and the message are getting dropped in to the same folder E:\Dropbox\PL\send and the message is not getting dropped in E:\Dropbox\SendLarge. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Workaround for using Oracle JDBC extension with WLS pooling

    Reading the newsgroup I saw that many of us encountered the problems
    with ClassCastException when tried to use Oracle JDBC extension
    with WLS pooling. I also had.
    In this case BEA recommends to use dangerous
    method getVendorConnection() which exposes
    the physical connection object to your code.
    Yes it's really dangerous because of unsafe usage may breaks
    WLS pooled connection(s).
    Moreover, this practice will make your JDBC code
    unportable (your JDBC code in addition to Oracle dependence
    became Weblogic dependent):
    void doSmth() {
    Connection con = ...;
    Connection vCon = ((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
    // + mess of usage con in one places and vCon in others
    // (where Oracle extensions are needed)
    // !Don't forget to don't close vCon!
    Sux.
    I found the workaround.
    Introduction
    ============
    Yes the real cause of ClassCastException is that
    in depth of Oracle driver the casting
    to class oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection
    (not to interface oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection)
    is performed.
    Someone can say that this is bug or pure desing.
    Weblogic pooled connection provide dynamic
    implementation for all public interfaces
    which real physical (wrapped) connection object implements.
    Great feature!
    But I guess that all interface methods implemented
    by simple call-delegation to physical (wrapped) connection object.
    In case of oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection interface
    this approach doesn't work for at least one its method:
    public OracleConnection unwrap()
    WLS pooled connection shoudn't implement this method by
    delegation to physical connection object BUT should
    return physical connection object itself!
    // Wrong implementation of unwrap()
    // delegation is used
    public OracleConnection unwrap() {
    return physicalConnection.unwrap();
    // Right implementation of unwrap()
    // physical connection returned
    public OracleConnection unwrap() {
    return physicalConnection;
    Workaround
    ==========
    1. Develop your own OracleConnection wrapper class:
    import oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection;
    import weblogic.jdbc.extensions.WLConnection;
    public class MyOracleConnectionImpl implements OracleConnection {
    private OracleConnection con;
    public MyOracleConnectionImpl(OracleConnection connection)
    throws SQLException
    this.con = connection;
    public OracleConnection unwrap() {
    return (OracleConnection)
    ((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
    /* Implement all other methods by delegation to con object */
    2. Don't get Connections directly from DataSource --
    develop your own simple (may be static) utility
    class which retrives Connections from dataSource
    and returns them wrapped into your MyOracleConnectionImpl
    to your code from some method:
    puclic abstract class MyConnectionSource {
    public static Connection getConnection() {
    Connection con = // get it from DataSource
    return new MyOracleConnectionImpl((OracleConnection)con);
    3. Add attribute RemoveInfectedConnectionsEnabled="false"
    to definition of your JDBCConnectionPool within config.xml
    You may do it because of you `safely` use vendorConnection --
    you don't expose it to application code.
    4. Enjoy the Oracle JDBC extensions in your code!
    Example:
    Connection con = MyConnectionSource.getConnection;
    ArrayDescriptor add =
    ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("your_type", con);
    Hope it helps to someone.

    Hello Eugene Voytitsky,
    Thanks Eugene Voytitsky for your idea
    I have tried the solution suggested by You, but it did not work.
    It still throws ClassCastException.
    I am sorry for posting the whole code of two classes below.

  • Could someone help me understand component extension?

    I've read a couple chapters over on component extension (use of the EXTENDS attribute in a CFCOMPONENT tag) but something isn't clicking; so I'm looking to the forums for some supplemental info that'll help me have a eureka moment and comprehend.
    As a preface, I have, what I would call, an intermediate knowledge of CF (working towards advanced).  So if we can keep the explanations into as much Layman's terms as possible, that would be appreciated and most helpful.
    To my knowledge, if you have a component, you can make its THIS-scope variables and its methods available to other components if those components have an EXTENDS attribute in their CFCOMPONENT tag that uses a fully-qualified dot notation path to the "extended-from" component.
    I tried to put this into practice by having a master.cfc and slave.cfc  The master is located off the root in a folder called 'www'.  The slave is located off the root in at the location: 'www/app/coms'.  So in the slave.cfc component I wrote:
    <cfcomponent extends="www.master" ...
    Assuming that it was the same as CF starting from the root of the website and looking into the www folder and then seeing the master.cfc.
    But when I have the slave component call a function that exists in the master, it says it cannot find it.  What am I not getting here?  This sounds like a POWERFUL way to share the application.cfc's THIS-scope variables, so I'd like to comprehend this ability, but there's something I'm missing it seems.

    OK, here's the issue I'm having so far.
    In the application.cfc (located at '/www/application.cfc') in the pseudo constructor, I created a THIS.mappings structure and made a key in it called '/app' which maps to 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\localhost\www', a valid location)
    Then down in the onApplicationStart() code, for S&G's, I wrote the following:
    <cfdump var="#fileExists( expandPath( '/app/application.cfc' ) )" abort="1">
    Since no such folder ('app') exists at the root, the only way this code would return YES/TRUE is if the THIS.mappings '/app' key worked (cause there is an application.cfc in the root's 'www' folder)
    Sure enough, it says "YES" when I run the code.  So everything's good.
    Well, I'm now going through code in the oAS() that instantiates componenents and stores it into the application scope.  The testing component is called 'template.cfc' (located at c:\inetpub\wwwroot\localhost\files\framework\current\coms)  In that template.cfc I set the attribute to each of the following in multiple attempts:
    extends="/app.application"
    extends="/app/application"
    extends="app.application"
    When the template.cfc is stored into the APPLICATION scope, it is put into a variable called 'application.coms.template'.  But when that component is processsed, I keep getting the error:
    COULD NOT FIND THE COLDFUSION COMPONENT OR INTERFACE /app.application
    I checked CF10 documentation, and it says that the EXTENDS attribute can take such a FQDN pathing... wasn't it supposed to respect values set in the THIS.mappings?

  • Difference between custom controller and component controller

    Hi All,
    I am a beginner in CRM SAP .
    Please can anyone tell me whats the difference between custom controller and component controller with some scenario.
    I am totally baffled.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Shilpi

    Hi Shilpi,
    The main difference between custom and component controller is the role which they play during data transfer.
    a) Custom controller is used for data transfer across two views within a component. For that you need to bind view context nodes to custom controller either through wizard or manually by adding the code in CTXT class create_contextnode method:
    initial setting for depandant model node
        coll_wrapper =
          BTADMINH->get_collection_wrapper( ).
        TRY.
            entity ?= coll_wrapper->get_current( ).
          CATCH cx_sy_move_cast_error.
        ENDTRY.
        IF entity IS BOUND.
          BTOpportH->on_new_focus(
                       focus_bo = entity ).
        ENDIF.
    b)Component controller is used for data transfer across two views in two different components. For this, we need to define the component usage first and then bind the context nodes in the method-WD_USAGE_INITIALIZE of the Component Controller impl class.
        WHEN 'ComponentUsageName'.
          iv_usage->bind_context_node(
                      iv_controller_type  = cl_bsp_wd_controller=>co_type_custom
                      iv_target_node_name = 'ContextNodeName'  "#EC NOTEXT
                      iv_node_2_bind      = 'ContextNodeName' ).  "#EC NOTEXT
    Hope this clears some of your doubts!
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rohit

    I have 9iAS R2 on a Win2k machine. At the EM website, there is a BC4J component for which I cannot do much, just view some parameter values. Does anyone know what's the use of this component and how I can use this? Sometimes, it seems to be down and all I can do is to restart the whole application server.
    Any help?
    Lambros

    The BC4J component that shows up in EM in 902/903 can effectively be ignored for the most part. It's not a real separate runtime component, but was added to allow the configuration of the BC4J parameters for the 9iAS installation.
    I'm pretty sure this component is mentioned somewhere in either the release notes, or the management guide for the 902/903 release, so they'd be worth checking on to get some more detailed information.
    cheers

  • I built a website for a customer using HTML only, so it would work on everything, but some of the text numbers are not clear on the ipad. It works perfectly on all the other browsers.

    I built a website for a customer using HTML only, so it would work on any browser, and it works perfectly on everything except ipad safari. I'm loosing information with most of my text numbers - instead of being black they are displaying a 'ghost' image (white) of the numbers.
    Is this a memory issue, or cache issue, or something else?  I've downloaded iCab and the site works perfectly with it.
    Also wondering if I can manually reload/refresh web pages in iPad Safari.
    Since most people with iPads will use Safari rather than iCab, I have to tweak this site to work in Safari.

    Detecting phone numbers and making them clickable is a feature of the browser, and rebuilding your web-site links will not make any difference. Its done when the page is shown in the browser, not when the page is created.
    According to the Safari iOS developers guide, you can turn these data detectors off using this code:
    <meta name = "format-detection" content = "telephone=no">

  • How can you save the cuepoints so you can easily modify them in the future?

    I encoded my videos with cue points using the Flash encoder, so that is relatively smooth. However, I want to be able to save all the cue point / parameter information so that I can use that as the starting point if I need to change / add cue points.
