Cut and Paste - inter-application...

I am wondering if inter-application Cut and Paste is possible? Or am I being remedial? Because I seem to be able to Cut and Paste within an application, but not between applications.
Is it just that I am missing something, or does this functionality not yet exist?

I can copy paste from GMail to any other app.
But I think you are referring to the Bridge Mail application, in which case I am not an expert but this is consistent with the future BlackBerry Balance that will appear in OS7 for smartphones. You have one device, and two sets of applications : the corporate ones and the personal ones. And copy/paste from one set to the other will be forbidden.

  • I can't cut and paste any images into apple mail

I have had my MacBook Pro for over three years now, without much trouble, but recently I've been unable to send images that I have cut and pasted into Apple mail. I can attach an image that I have saved in my photos and it will send but I can not send an image that I have cut and pasted from the internet.
I am using a gmail pop account and firefox as my primary browser. It took me a few times to figure this out as the image appears to be attached in my mail, but is removed when I send, such that if I have text and an image in an email the recipient receives only the text. Before I hit send I can see both the text and the image.
I have tried starting again in safe mode and repairing permissions. That has not helped. I can login to my gmail regularly and cut and paste images with no problem.
    This is exceptionally frustrating.

Hello.  In 2012 you answered a query about the following problem:
"I have had my MacBook Pro for over three years now, without much trouble, but recently I've been unable to send images that I have cut and pasted into Apple mail. I can attach an image that I have saved in my photos and it will send but I can not send an image that I have cut and pasted from the internet."
This problem started with me this morning and it does not happen when I open a test account.  The thread stops after you asked if it occurs in the test account, did you ever find a solution to this issue?  I am using mac mail 3.6 on system 10.5.8.
I hope you receive this, I have never posted in one of these forums.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Apple Mail Cut and Paste Problem

When I cut and past in Apple Mail font changes to smaller size.  Any suggestions?

As you know, type sizes are uniform - unless you use cut-and-paste. The resulting text will sometimes be smaller, larger, or different than the type-style you began with.
Personally, I'd ignore it. But if you want to fix the font size, you can alter it in the Format Bar on the top of the Mail program. This allows you to change the type, size, and even alter special characters. To make the text uniform, highlight the text you want to alter, open the Format Bar, and change the settings.

I did not sync my iPad to iTunes to my PC. Now my iPad is disabled because I forgot my passcode when I installed iOS 7 to it.
Before anyone cuts and pastes the info from Apple support in response to this, I have already tried those steps. iTunes simply states that it cannot do anything since the iPad is locked with a passcode. I cannot access iCloud to use that specific advice as iCloud will not let me sign in; a message keeps coming up reading that there is an error with the server. Remote Swipe? Not sure. It is three hours later, and I am no further.
What else can I do? I never had a passcode set up when I first got my iPad. I would have bypassed this with the installation of iOS 7 if I had known about this.
    Thank you in advance.

    Highlight the item.
    Finder>Edit>Copy
Place the item where you want to
    Finder>Edit>Paste
There is 3rd party software that makes cut & paste easier with just 1 or 2 steps.
Q2 how do I correct a spelling error when it has a red line under it?
You can find the correct spelling in the Apple dictionary.  Just add the correct spelling & delete the error.
Care to share which OS you are using and which model iMac you have?

  • Suggestion I made to Apple on Cut and Paste

I posted the following suggestion to the feedback web page on cutting and pasting with an iPhone:
You have undoubtably heard many requests for cut and paste. It seems to me based upon my two decades of software experience is that the text-based paradigm found in the emacs editor works works better than a mouse-based one. (As you stated in your developer guidelines a finger does not equal a mouse.) I suggest that double-tapping an editable region enters "edit mode" (and exits it also). Edit mode has four buttons. "Set mark", "cut", "copy", and "paste". "Set mark" sets a mark point at the current cursor location and creates a selection region between the mark point and the current cursor location. Cut, copy, and paste work in their traditional fashion of working with the OS X cut buffer.

  • Can't cut and paste in a web based e-mail service. (Not G-mail)

I belong to a membership site that is coaching me on e-mail marketing. I want to cut and paste different bits of information and ad links etc. to emails that I am sending out through the site.
For some reason, Firefox will not allow me to cut and paste when I am in this particular site??
I can cut and paste in Microsoft Word and other programs with no problem. But when I'm on this particular site it's no deal.
This is very frustrating. What can I do to resolve the problem.

I've had this happen a couple of times. Seems it just gets a bit borked sometimes.
Best thing to do is close Pages (or whatever), then do an iOS reset (hold power button then home button till screen goes blank and apple logo comes up and then let go).
Cut copy paste should work again as normal.

I'm using Lion on an MBP and Numbers is the latest version

May you give more details about what is wrong with your dates ?
M…oSoft products aren't allowed on my machines but I use LibreOffice which is a clone of Office.
When I export from Numbers to Excel and open the result with LibreOffice, the dates are correctly treated.
To be precise, dates after 01/01/1904 are correctly treated. dates before 01/01/1904 are exported as strings but, as it's flagged during the export process, it's not surprising.

  • I can use cut and paste in Rich Text Editors for all web site hosts but one. I have tried the solution you provided, but it doesn't work. Any ideas? the website that rejects cut and paste is Network Solutions

I really hoped you would fix the security policy issue in release 4. I have to close Firefox and use IE9 to maintain a website I built with Network Solutions and I'd much rather not have to endure the slowness of IE. I also have websites with Wix and WEBS and have no problems at all using cut and paste with them.

Did you have it connected to the library mac when it froze? If so, why? I would be hesitant to hook my ipod to a unprotected public computer since it may be infested with viruses or have unknown hardware problems.
In any case, if you can get it to an Apple store they can probably help you with it, it sounds like it needs replacing.
A certain percentage of any complex product will turn out to be defective and will have to be returned, it sounds like you were unlucky enough to get one. Looking over the forums here it may seem like the ipod is plagued with bugs, but don't forget that there are millions who never have a problem and so have no reason to pipe up here. Personally I think Apple deserves a thumbs up for continuing to host these forums in spite of how they may cast a negative light on thier products to the casual observer.

  • The MacBook Pro will not allow me to cut-and-paste to and from or to click-and-drag to the external drive. I can copy-and-paste, but then I must send the original to the trash, which doubles the time and effort. Is there any way to cut-and-paste?

I have recently switched from a PC to a MacBook Pro.
I have a large number of documents and photographs on a multiterrabite external drive, backed up on a second multiterrabite external drive.
Both external drives are formatted for MacIntosh. This has been verified by agents at an Apple store and also at Best Buy in two different cities.
    This is the problem:
The MacBook Pro will not allow me to cut-and-paste to and from or to click-and-drag to the external drive. I can copy-and-paste, but then I must send the original to the trash, which doubles the time and effort. Is there any way to cut-and-paste?
Also, the MacBook Pro will not allow me to rename multiple documents or photographs. I can click-and-rename a single one, but this is impossibly time consuming. I can batch-rename in iPhoto, but when I transfer the photographs to the external drive, the rename does not transfer.
I’m reduced to using my wife’s Toshiba to cut-and-past, rename, and transfer documents. It works perfectly. Is there any way to do this on the MacBook Pro?

No, this is a philosophical difference between Apple and Microsoft. Apple believes that it's dangerous to cut a file in case the user never pastes it; in that case the file is lost. Microsoft seems to not have this problem (if I remember Windows correctly) because they don't delete the originating file if it's cut but never pasted.
Even though Macs have a lot of keyboard shortcuts, philosophically Macs have traditionally been mouse-first. This applies to file copy operations. In your case, what a Mac user would do is open the source window, open the destination window (on your second drive), and then Command-drag the selected files from the source to destination window. This is because a normal drag would leave the originals behind, while adding the Command modifier key tells OS X that this is a Move, not a Copy, so don't leave the originals behind.
(In addition there are different rules for drag-copying within the same volume or between different volumes. If you drag between two folders on the same volume, the files are moved. If you drag between different volumes, the files are copied unless you hold down Command to delete the copies on the source volume.)

Two problems in this case. First, batch file renaming is not built into OS X unless you build something with Automator. However, there are many utilities that can do batch file renaming which you can find at macupdate.com or on the App Store. Since I work with media I often batch rename using one of the media managers I have lying around like Media Pro or Adobe Bridge (comes with Photoshop).
iPhoto is a database front end designed to shield the file system from the consumer and let them concentrate on creativity and sharing. As such it is often a poor choice for managing files directly. When you "transferred the photographs" chances are you moved the originals, not the ones iPhoto edited which are stored in a hidden folder.

There will not be a way to do it exactly like Windows. As described above, there are ways to do it "the Mac way." If it is possible to remove judgment on which way is "better" you might find the Mac way to be acceptable, but of course sometimes we simply prefer what we're used to.

  • Mac running slow when cut and paste

    Hi,
recently I noticed that my mac is running slow when I cut and paste (there is a delay of approx 1-2 secs). I thought it might be some kind of spyware which is trying to steal sensitive information such as passwords, credit cards and others. That would be surprising as I thought those were still rare in Mac. Any thought on this? Suggestions on how to protect my mac from these security issues? Thanks in advance!
    Mauro

    Morning smartasso,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you find your Mac is running slowly, there are a number of potential causes that you can check.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:

  • Cut and Paste not working on Mountain Lion

I downloaded Mountain Lion on the first day of its release, upgrading from Lion. Ever since then My cut and paste functions havent been working. It would function after the first 10 to 15 minutes, but soon after that time passes, I am unable to copy/cut paste anything either via the mouse or typing commands. This is very frustrating. I would have to shtdown and turn the computer back on just to get the function back temporarily. Does anyone have a solution for this?!
Also, I just updated my Mountain Lion to 10.8.1 as of yesterday, and its still happening!!
Lastly, I verified permissions and reinstalled the OS, still happening...

    1. Open Disk Utility and repair the permissions
    2. Go to Finder, press Option key, select Go > Library, open Preferences and delete com.apple.dock.plist

  • I use classical Hebrew for my work, and Pages will only display English characters even with a Hebrew font selected. If I cut and paste Hebrew characters from another document, as long as the font is supported, it will appear in Pages.  If I type it won't

I use classical Hebrew for my work, and Pages will only display English characters even with a Hebrew font selected. If I cut and paste Hebrew characters from another document, as long as the font is supported, it will appear in Pages.  If I type it won't continue in Hebrew.  I have tried downloading several fonts, including those from professional societies, but the only way to get Hebrew in my document is to cut and paste.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I use an older MacBook running OS 10.9.1.  I used to do my Hebrew work in Word, but it is no longer supported by Mac OS.

    Just clarifying:
Pages '09 has bad support for Hebrew, Arabic etc but will accept pasted text.
Pages 5 has much better support but with bugs.
If you have columns they are in the wrong order ie Text starts in the left column and ends in the right column.
If you type English into Hebrew text it tends to fall in the wrong position eg instead of to the left of Hebrew punctuation it goes to the right.
As Tom recommends the only real solution on the Mac is Mellel.
    Peter
btw Tell Apple, they are amazingly slow to fix this running sore which has been broken since RtoL was supposedly introduced in OSX 10.2.3 over a decade ago.
