CVI module writes TestStand property, property value resets after step executes

Hi,
I've done a good bit of searching and can't find anything relevant to the issue I am having. I have created a DLL in CVI containing several functions which I call from TestStand. I also have created a custom step type for each function call. Each function in the DLL has a run-time version and an edit-time version. The edit-time functions each have a user interface associated with them called from teststand. These edit-time functions are put in the custom step-type substep tab under the "edit" category. Before running a sequence with these custom steps the edit-time user interface is launched to allow the user to input values which will be passed to the run-time function. Originally I tried to set up my run-time functions as a "post step" substep in the step type properties. However, the sequences would fail to run because the step settings module tab was blank. I then selected CVI as the adapter in the step type properties and specified a default module for each type. This populated the module tab of step settings like I wanted. However, when I ran the sequence each steps run-time function was called twice, once for the post step and once for what was in the module tab I am guessing. I then went back into the step types and deleted all the post steps. I thought all my problems were solved at this point, however after doing some more extensive testing I still have one bug I have been unable to get rid of.
The problem is that two of my step types have to write data back to TestStand at run-time after they query an external device for it. I know the query works because my text log that the DLL generates shows the correct values. However, the data is not getting written back to TestStand properly. In the run-time functions after verifying valid data has been returned I try to write it back to TestStand using: "TS_PropertySetValNumber(seqContextCVI,NULL,"ThisContext.Step.ParameterValue.NumericParameter",0,(double) ushortint);"
I've checked that this call doesn't generate an error and also used the TS_PropertyExists method to verify that I had the lookup string correct. Both of these checked out so I then added another command which reads the value written to TestStand back immediately after writing it. I printed this to my log file and found that the value is being written to the TS property. So, the problem is that TestStand is setting the property back to zero after the code module executes. How do I prevent this?
Thanks for any input, let me know if anything needs clarified.

Well, I've come to the conclusion that my "problem" isn't actually a problem. I had a bit of fundamental misunderstanding of how TestStand works (I don't actually use it, I'm just writing some code that will bring an existing tools functionality inside of TS).
Anyways, what I've learned is that when you write to a property during editting/sequence setup these properties are preserved (so you can set up a sequence, save it, re-open it and be able to run it without any re-configuration for instance). The run time values aren't preserved (unless logged) becuase they are only needed at run-time. For instance, if a user calls one of these functions to pull a value from a controller they are probably doing so becuase they want to verify the value is what they expect it to be. Rather than looking at the value after exection (which is what I was assuming they'd do), they'd set up the step after the "read value" step to test the value it returned. This value is availablein "RunState.PreviousStep.valuename" during the step followint the "read value" step.
Hope I didn't confuse anyone to much, I'm completely new to TestStand.

  • Passing values from CVI dll to TestStand gives wrong values

    Initially I wanted to pass an array of booleans from CVI to TestStand.  I read that this was not possible because you cannot set Boolean as a parameter.
    So I declared it as unsigned intin CVI.
    Strangely enough, TestStand does receive it as an arrayof Booleans.  However the values are still wrong.  I wonder if it actually is possible to pass an array of Booleans.
    Using TestStand 3.1 and CVI ver 7.1 (no impact)
    Here is how I declare the parameters in CVI:
    void __declspec(dllexport) __stdcall MemTest
        CAObjHandle     thisContext,
        unsigned char *    apbResult,
        int             alComport,
        int                alSocketNum,
        UINT32            aulHostAddr,
        BOOL        *    apbTestOutcome,
        UINT32             testSize,
        UINT32          startAddress
    The other functions within CVI use an array of booleans.
    Here is how I declare the parameters in TestStand:
    Here are the results I get.  They should match...
    The obvious question is:
    How do I get the results in TestStand to match those from CVI?
    The printout >>  no. 1 Passed << etc..  are the values of the array apbResult in CVI.  bSippResuls should match.

  • TestStand Property Loader using a XML file

    I would like to use Labview Cluster to build XML files (in LabView 6.1) that could be use by TestStand Property Loader.
    Is it possible?
    Harold Hebert

    Harold,
    The TestStand Property Loader step type only loads text, comma-delimited, or excel files.
    As alternatives, you could make your own step type that would parse through the XML file to find the properties that you want to load. You could also use the excel VIs to write variable values to an excel file.

  • How to Get property values from Shared Object in client's load event - Very urgent

    I am using shared object to share data between two users. First user connect to shared object and set some value in shared object. Please consider that second user has not connected with the shared object yet.
    Now when second user connects to the server and try to get that property set by first user, he could get shared object but could not get properties of Shared object set by first user. Whenever Second user tries to get the property of Shared object, the object will reset the actual property value and then return reset value.
    Anyone faced such issue while using shared object between two users. If so, I would appreciate if you could let me know your suggestions for following questions:
    1) Is there any way to get all the properties of shared object before sync event called, as I want to get it immediately when second user connect to the application and perform next task based on the values stored in shared object.
    2) Is it possible for second user to check whether any property has been set by first user? So that second user can use the property instead of reset it.

    Thank you.
    AA.

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to you want to get document set property value in a SharePoint library and then export into a CSV file using PowerShell.
    I suggest you can get the document sets properties like the PowerShell Command below:
    [system.reflection.assembly]::loadwithpartialname("microsoft.sharepoint")
    $siteurl="http://sp2013sps/sites/test"
    $listname="Documents"
    $mysite=new-object microsoft.sharepoint.spsite($siteurl)
    $myweb=$mysite.openweb()
    $list=$myweb.lists[$listname]
    foreach($item in $list.items)
    if($item.contenttype.name -eq "Document Set")
    if($item.folder.itemcount -eq 0)
    write-host $item.title
    Then you can use Export-Csv PowerShell Command to export to a CSV file.

    What version of the NI-RIO driver do you have?

    Is this a 64-bit machine? Also, the minimum version of LabVIEW that will work with the 9075 is LabVIEW 2010SP1. You can verify if you have this version by going into Measurement & Austomation Explorer and expanding software. If you do not have LabVIEW 2010SP1, you will need either the platform DVDs for 2010 SP1 or you can download the content from www.NI.com/src.
    You will also want to verify that you have the 2010SP1 FPGA module and 2010SP1 RT module.
    Also, does this issue occur with all FPGA VIs that you try to compile or only the one that you are currently working on?
    You can check by doing two things:
    1. Try to compile a blank FPGA VI (i.e. nothing on the block diagram or front panel)
    2. Try to compile an FPGA VI from one of the example LabVIEW projects
    Please post back if one of these troubleshooting steps resolved your issue or if you're still having problems.

  • Memory leak in "get property value (string)" ?

    Hi,
    I'm not sure which forum to post this to because it involves a combination of labview and teststand.  The error I'm getting is more teststand related so it is here.
    In our application, we have a labview queued state machine launched by a teststand step using "launch vi asynchronously".  In one of the states of this state machine, we are looping grabbing frames from a camera, querying a teststand using "get property value (string)", to overylay on the video on each frame.  This is so when we post process the video, we can tell what step(s) teststand was performing (we are writing a status string to a property from teststand as well).  Since this string has to be overlayed on the video for each frame to be visible when played back, this happens many many thousands of times over the multi hour test runs of the platform.
    My problem is, after 22 hours or so of running, I get an error generated from the "get property value (string)", saying cannot create any more threads.  The only thing wired to this tool in our vi is sequence context, which is passed in when the vi is launched from teststand.  When opening the "get property value (string)" vi itself, it is very simple, consisting of a "aspropertyvalue" casting, reading of the string from the proprety, closing the aspropertyvalue reference, and exiting.  It does not seem like there should be any "threads" being created here, except for perhaps the vi itself executing. But in that case I would assume the OS itself would clean up after itself.
    BTW, the OS I am testing on is win7 x64.  I did see this though running on our xp box once as well though, same amount of time.  It is very repeatable.  My next plan is to disable this get property value using a disable case, and run again, but I"m still wondering why this error is occurring.  Any help or insight will be appreciated.

    Hi David,
    Have you tried just using property node | Method Nodes instead of using the VI. There should be no difference but I think that VI is polymorphic ie the input with change depending on what's wired to it eg string, double etc.

  • [NSUserDefaults setObject:forKey:]: Attempt to insert non-property valu

    Hi all
    I have been writting classes at work in Xcode 4.? SL 10.6.8 and every thing has been working fine. When I bring a copy home to work on under Lion in Xcode 4.3.2 I get issues (Lots of them)
    While I have solved or worked around most I am unsure why I am getting an error with my NSUserDefaults.
    I have a method that I run in a singleton
    + (void)setSaveLocation : (NSString *) saveLocation
        NSMutableDictionary * ccLogManagerDictionaryFromUserDefaults = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithDictionary:[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] valueForKey:@"CCLogManager"]];
        [ccLogManagerDictionaryFromUserDefaults setObject:saveLocation forKey:@"Save Location"];
        [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setObject:ccLogManagerDictionaryFromUserDefaults forKey:@"CCLogManager"];
        [ccLogManagerDictionaryFromUserDefaults release];
        // Post a notification to inform other classes that the savelocation has changed
        NSNotificationCenter *notification = [NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter];
        [notification postNotificationName:@"CCLogManagerNotificationSaveLocation" object:self];
    This worked fine before. The only change I have made is to the method in a different class that send the information :
    - (IBAction)changeSaveLocation: (id)sender
        NSOpenPanel* openDlg = [NSOpenPanel openPanel];
        [openDlg setCanChooseFiles:NO];
        [openDlg setCanChooseDirectories:YES];
        if ( [openDlg runModal] == NSOKButton )
            NSArray* files = [openDlg URLs];
            int i;
            for( i = 0; i < [files count]; i++ )
                NSString* fileName = [files objectAtIndex:i];
                [CCLogManager setSaveLocation:fileName];
    I had to change two lines due to depreciation:
        if ( [openDlg runModalForDirectory:nil file:nil] == NSOKButton )
    and
            NSArray* files = [openDlg filenames];
    What I dont understand is that I am still passing a NSString as required. And if in the first method I simpy insert a @"" string like so
        [ccLogManagerDictionaryFromUserDefaults setObject:
    @"file://localhost/Volumes/MacPro%20RAID/Home%20Folder/Downloads/8-tileable-meta l-textures/"  forKey:@"Save Location"];
    Then it works
    Any assistance would be most appreciated.

    Oh and the error is:
    2012-06-14 22:41:31.843 ProControl[3630:403] *** -[NSUserDefaults setObject:forKey:]: Attempt to insert non-property value '{
        "Logging Enabled" = 1;

    }' of class '__NSCFDictionary'.  Note that dictionaries and arrays in property lists must also contain only property values.
    And it don't save to the User Defaults.

    Hi etresoft, thanks for the reply.
    Do you mean the number 1 pertaining to "Loggining Enabled" = 1?
    If so this should be a   [NSNumber numberWithBool: YES] which is already in the userdefauts.plist. before copying the original dictionary.
    The method save should be copying a dictionary from the .plist and only changing the dictionary entry for "Save Location" which is a NSString. It shouldn't be doing anything to the "Logging Enabled" entry which as I say should already be a NSNumber numberWithBool . Plus seeing as you can change the line
    [ccLogManagerDictionaryFromUserDefaults setObject:saveLocation forKey:@"Save Location"];
    to
    [ccLogManagerDictionaryFromUserDefaults setObject:
    @"file://localhost/Volumes/MacPro%20RAID/Home%20Folder/Downloads/8-tileable-meta l-textures/"  forKey:@"Save Location"];
    and still not touch the "Loggining Enabled" = 1 I don't that the 1 is an issue.
    Sorry if I'm being dense.

  • Daqmx write offset property

    Hi all,
    Been stuck at trying to figure out how to write/output at specific locations in an analog out buffer (seems like a simple task). I've set up a very simple test VI to play a sound file made up of consecutive 0.1s chunks of 500Hz and 5000Hz. The daqmx write offset option should be able to point to where the writing should take place so as to play just the 500Hz or 5000Hz tone.
    The ultimate aim is to be able to control two analog outputs. Since the two outputs cannot be controlled independently in Labview hardware, our main VI will produce a trigger that will specify the offset locations to write from. We'll have a stereo wave file such that if we want to produce a sound in one analog out channel, the other channel will just play zeros in the 2nd column of the wave file (play nothing). The offset pointer will allow us to do the reverse (sound in one channel, zeros in another) when the wavefile is played from another offset.
    Appreciate any help and comments on how exactly to place the daqmx write offset property. I'm using the PCIe 6251 board that should be able to set this offset property when task is running.
    Thanks.

    Hi h_Baker,
    Happy Labor Day!
    Really appreciate the help, but I think it wasn’t clear what I was hoping to do. I’ll be more concrete now. I have a VI that samples the singing of two birds independently. It’s done very quickly with input buffer of 5ms. I would then give each bird a white noise jam depending on whether its pitch within the 5ms buffer was below or above a threshold. The VI works fine on 1 bird and my task is now to scale it up to monitor two birds in parallel within one VI.
    The issue I’m encountering is to output noise jam in one analog out channel for example for bird 1, while the other output channel for bird 2 does not do anything. But I understand that labview’s hardware cannot do this. The other channel for bird 2 cannot remain ‘silent’, but must instead play a waveform of zeros to create silence in the other channel, so that the other bird does not hear anything. Another issue is that the while loop to monitor the bird’s song and to produce a Boolean true for my counter is very quick (5ms), so my tasks to produce the white noise jam are placed outside the while loop (I tried placing the task inside; the VI runs but will just freeze and not do anything not even sample the inputs).
    I’ve been trying to solve this problem for weeks without much success, and would appreciate your help. I tried implementing your case selector idea for a task (“white noise jam”) with two analog output channels. The idea is that I have 3 different stereo sound files. One stereo file has all zeros (all silence) as default when no bird is to be jammed. The second file has column 1 with white noise and column 2 with zeros (silence). When bird 1 should get jammed, I will use this waveform so that AO0 will play the white noise, while AO1 plays zeros. The third file is reversed: has zeros (silence) in column 1 for AO0, and white noise in column 2 for AO1, and should be played when bird 2 should get jammed.
    I’m attaching the VI for any advice. The while loop has lots of stuff to monitor the song, but if you do a ctrl+f for COMMENT, I’ve placed comments where necessary to solve this output issue. The problem I am having is that the correct jamming on the correct channels depends on the initial value of variable “trigger”. If I set it to 1 when I start the VI, all jamming output from both bird’s singing will be to AO0, and if I set if to 2 when I stat the VI, all the outputs will instead be from AO1. I am not sure what’s going on. I suspect it’s due to the fact that my jamming task is outside the while loop and the initialization affects the output channel set?
    Thanks.

  • How works Get Property Value / Type Automatic?

    Hi,
    I need to get in Labview some variables from Teststand. The VI I wrote use "Get Property Value" from Teststand and works fine... when I specify the type of variable I whant from Teststand (Boolean, I32,...).
    But I need a VI which retrieve the value of my variable independently of the variable type.
    I tried to set the type option "Automatic" but the "Get Property Value" always give back an empty array of boolean....
    How works the "Automatic" option by the "Get Property Value"?
    Is there a possibility in Labview to get the type of a Teststand variable?
    Cheers,
    Risotto

    Risotto,
    the "automatic" feature is no feature but an entry made because of the
    polymorphic design of the "get property value" VI. if you would change
    the order of the VIs contained in the polymorphic VI, you would
    retrieve other kind of values.
    therefore never use the automatic setting of this VI. the
    simplest way to solve such thing is to pass the data in variant and an
    additional numeric value for identifying the type of the value.

  • Open module for managing property file and environment variables

    Looking for an open module for managing property files and environment variables (like CLASSPATH) set in a shell script. For handeling properties (preserving comments, supporting includes, appending new entries, and more) I have looked at SuperProperties from openadaptor but find certain functionality lacking. As for interfacing with common shell scripts/files containing setting for CLASSPATH, JAVA_HOME, other system/application variables another type of object editor is needed. Maybe JFIG?
    Any ideas are greatly welcomed.

    You seem wright, you hit a brick wall here with Air to find the location
    of the command console on windows...
    So in fact I never build an exe tool, but this little problem was a nice
    case to test it and I tried it.:
    I downloaded monodevelop
    -GTK# for .NET 2.12.10*
    -MonoDevelop 2.4.2*
       from http://monodevelop.com/Download
    created a console project and had an exe in 5 minutes !
    You can download the findconsole tool and the projectfiles here:
       http://greencollective.nl/temp/dump/findconsole_monoproject.zip
    findconsole.exe will reveal the path/location of cmd.exe on a windows system.

  • Multiple TYPEELIM property values for an account

    I am trying to set automatic adjustment business rules and need to assign multiple multiple TYPEELIM property values for an account. Any idea how to achieve this?
    Here is my example. Letu2019s assume there are 2 eliminations I need to do.
    Elimination 1: Account A, B, C going to Account Y
    Elimination 2: Account A, B, D going to Account Z
    For elimination 1, to group source accounts (A,B,C), I want to assign u201CELIM1u201D for TYPEELIM property to all source account (A,B,C).
    For elimination 2, to group source accounts (A,B,D), I want to assign u201CELIM2u201D for TYPEELIM property to all source account (A,B,D).
    As you see, accounts A and B are repeated in both cases. I am not sure how I can assign both ELIM1 and ELIM2 property for these two accounts.
    Options I have thought of:
    1.     Include automatic adjustment line by line:  But since I have many accounts, this will be very lengthy and not good from maintenance point of view.
    2.     Include one ELIM1 in TYPEELIM and ELIM2 in Dimlist: But my real case is more than just two elims as mentioned above. What if there are 4 elim and includes same account?
    Any idea on this?
    Thanks in advance.
