Data concerning two users

I have been using the forums for about 4 years with my own name, Graham K. Rogers as login. This evening, in the same way I have countless times before, I logged into the account to enable me to answer questions and look at My Posts to see if anything needed a response.
When I clicked on "My Posts" I found one message only that had been posted by user "Bamm". I have tried a series of logouts, quitting the forums, logging out, emptying the cache and a restart of the computer.
Each time I login as Graham K. Rogers, the panel to the left shows "Welcome" plus my name, I can look at my settings, my profile, my subscriptions, My Questions: all in my name; but My Posts keep sending me back to the post of Bamm (with the message Welcome, Bamm). From there, once or twice I have been sent into that user's Public Profile and see that he too is a teacher in Bangkok (whom as far as I am aware I do not know).
Any suggestions as to what to do? I would like to look at my posts and I value the privacy of the other user.

Load http://discussions.apple.com/myposts.jspa?generic=0 and see if it shows up with your posts; if it does, the page with Bamm's posts has been cached somewhere farther up the line, either by a network or by the ISP. If Bamm's post appears when you follow the link, the problem lies with the Discussions.

  • Backup one computer with two users

How do I use Time Machine to back up the data for two users on the same computer (The computer is used for both personal and for work)? I partitioned my external hard drive into 2 parts (one part for storage and one part for backup). Do I need to somehow divide the backup partition?

Time Machine backs up the whole computer, not individual users so you don't have to do anything.

  • Two users on same computer how to use the same program and data

Two users on one computer how to share a program and it's data

As Kappy said, each of you should have your own account. By default all programs are installed in the Applications folder so all users on the computer will be able to use the software. With a few restrictions data you want to share between two users can be placed inside the Shared folder - look inside the Users folder for it. Data that gets placed in the Shared folder will retain the owner/creator's rights so if you want other user(s) to be able to do more than open the document you'll need to change the permissions of the file to include that user.

  • WinXP with two users - can we have two separate iTunes, one for each user?

Question:  On my Dell WinXPPro SP3 desktop with two users (myself and my wife), can each user have a separate iTunes - so what each of us does with iTunes has no effect on the other?
Details:  Yesterday, June 29 2012, I bought a new iPad 3 with WiFi only, my first Apple product.  My #1 motive for buying it is to copy movie files (avi, m4v, mp4, etc.) from my WinXP setup (PC plus hard drive) to my new iPad to watch the movies in bed on the new iPad. I understand that I shall need to install iTunes on both the iPad and the PC in order to move or copy the existing movies from the PC side to the iPad.  (I also understand that I won't be able to use iCloud because iCloud will not run on WinXP, only Vista and Win7.)  [By the way, if iTunes will NOT help me do what I want to do, please let me know.  But that is not my question.]
I am only one of two users on the PC.  My wife is the second user on the PC.  She already installed iTunes on the PC for her own use.  She is an avid iTunes user.   Most of the time, she does not use this PC.  She has her own WinXPPro SP3 Dell laptop, which is what she uses 99% of the time.  She has also had an iPod for some time, hence her use of iTunes.  And now, for the last two weeks, she also has a new iPhone 4S and her own iPad.  So her use of iTunes will grow.  The important point is the following - whatever I do on my side, I do not want to interfere with or disrupt her use of iTunes.  Not even for a second.
So, can I install or re-install or somehow set up iTunes on MY user on the PC so that it does not in any way use or affect her iTunes?  If the answer is "yes", please give me a step-by-step and list all details.  Is there a YouTube that shows this specifically?
More details:  Right now, in C:\Program Files, before I have tried to install anything myself, there are already folders for Apple Software Update, iPod and iTunes, which derive from my wife's installations of these Apple programs some time ago.  I have just now run the Apple Software Updater, which first updated itself on this PC to version 2.1.3.127 and then updated her iTunes on this PC to version 10.6.3.25.  (As a result, the following processes/services are now running, which normally don't run when I am the user:
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe
      C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe
      C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe
Also, the following processes will launch the next time I reboot this PC (which normally don't launch when I am the user):
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\APSDaemon.exe
      C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe )
My wife says her iTunes is NOT set for Family Share.  (That sounds correct to me, for now and forever.)
Summary:  So, how do I install iTunes for myself (for the first time) for my user on this PC so it does not - even for a second - interfere or affect my wife's use of her iTunes on all of her devices?
    Thanks !!!

Mr. Wiclee - thanks for the link.
When I said I had not "installed" iTunes on my iPad, I suppose I meant I have not yet signed in to iTunes, ever.  I suppose when I sign in to iTunes the first time on my new iPad, I will be required to create a new iTunes account?  Then refer to such new iTunes account when I launch iTunes for the first time on my PC as myself?  Or will I still need to use Method Three in your link?
The crucial thing is this - when I turn on iTunes on the PC for the first time with me as User, I do NOT want it to connect to my wife's iTunes account.  On my PC, I would want iTunes to ask me who I am, so I can then sign in with my new iTunes account that I had just created on my iPad.  How can I be sure to accomplish this goal?
In my PC, if I look at Documents and Settings and compare the two folders for we two different users, one for me and one for my wife, I can see that my wife's has Application Data and Local Settings for her various Apple programs.  However, so do I in my User even though I have not yet installed any Apple programs on my side.  I am concerned that when I finall launch iTunes when I am user, it will open up in my wife's iTunes account, which I truly want to avoid.
    Thanks.  Please advise.

  • How to merge two user accounts?

I have two user accounts I would like to merge into one. What would be the easiest way to go about doing this? I am mostly concerned about moving files, including preferences files, handling the mail accounts and browers bookmarks shouldn't be too troublesome for me.
    Thanks

My favourite way to move files from Account A to Account B:
    1) Log in to the A account.
    2) Locate all the files you want to move. Move them to /Users/A/Public. Note: Don't move any System-created top-level folders, like Documents, Pictures, Music, Movies, etc. Just move their contents.
    3) Log in to the B account.
    4) Navigate with Finder to /Users/A/Public. Drag the files to the Desktop. This will make new copies of them that will have the correct permissions for User B.
    5) Put the new copies of the files away in the appropriate places in B's home folder.
    6) Delete the A user account if it is no longer needed.
Doing it this way will ensure that there are no permissions headaches with the files after they are moved.
Also, make sure that you BACK UP all of your data before starting.

  • How can I use Microsoft Office on two user accounts on one IMAc?

    Dear all,
I have installed Microsoft Office 2011 on my IMac which I have recently bought. I did this on the (at that time) only user account in place: the administrator account.
A little time after this my wife and I decided it would be much easier to us to make an additional user account on the same computer for my wife (also with administrator rights), so we could have our own settings, desktop preferences etc. So now we have two user accounts/profiles on one Imac, so far so good.
But when my wife signs in on her account, she is not able to use Microsoft Office . Office seems to be only available to the user account on which it has been installed initially: 'my' account.
Can anyone help us out here and tell us how we can make Office available to my wife's user account as well? I understand that the licence of Office is restricted to one computer, but what about two accounts on the same IMac? I mean, it is still one computer, one 'home', one family etc.
We would appreciate your help here!
    Kind regards,
    Jurjen

As long as you installed MS Office into its default location (the top level /Applications folder) it will be available to all user accounts on the Mac.
As far as licensing is concerned you only have to enter the license code once, which you should do right after installing MS Office, in the same admin account you installed it from, by opening any one of the MS Office applications.  There is no additional licensing required for additional user accounts on the same Mac.
Each user account is able to run the Office apps.  The only thing you will have to do is go through an initial setup screen in each user account (but this setup does NOT involve entering any additional license codes).
You may have problems if you installed MS Office in a particular user account (i.e. NOT in the top level /Applications folder).

  • How to access data of all users in a page?

Hi all, I am new to APEX and have a query.
I have installed APEX on my local machine, created a workspace, and added a few users with roles.
I am creating an application, similar to a Library app, where I have a table that stores Books information (BOOK_ID, BOOK_NAME, etc). I'd like to create another table BOOK_USER with two columns, BOOK_ID and USER_ID. BOOK_ID would refer to the BOOKS table, and I want USER_ID to refer to the table that stores user details of the workspace that I am using. The data entry would happen from a page that has two LOVs, one for book name (using BOOK_ID as the value) and another for user name (USER_ID, or whatever field APEX uses to store user's ID). Can I do that in APEX? I've found ways to access and authenticate a user for a page, but how to get data of all users in the workspace? In other words, how to get all usernames in a LOV?
As I am new to APEX, I'd appreciate if someone can guide me through the steps, or post links to tutorial, etc.

Assuming that you are using the Application Express User Accounts for authentication, in that case you have to use built-in apex views
selet * from APEX_WORKSPACE_APEX_USERSAnd use USER_NAME column instead of user_id

  • How do we sync contacts and calendars (ONLY) between two iCloud accounts, two iPhones and one iMac with two user accounts?

This is complex.  Until today we had one iMac with two user accounts - one for me and the other for my wife.  We sync'd our calendars and contacts between our two user accounts using my iCloud account, thereby keeping our schedules coordinated and our contacts information always the same between us.  Also, as I had an iPhone, I sync'd my phone with my iCloud account, thereby keeping the contacts and calendars in the two user accounts on the iMac AND my iPhone sync'd.  (I also sync'd other things, like Notes and Mail and Safari settings, between my iPhone and my user account on the iMac, but my wife did not want to be burdened with all my emails showing up in her email account and I wasn't interested in hers, etc., so we didn't sync anything between us other than calendars and contacts.)
We've finally bought my wife an iPhone and set up an iCloud account for her.  And of course she now wants to sync several items from HER account on our iMac to HER iPhone, but I don't want them, just as she doesn't want all of my other stuff.  But we still want our mutual calendars and contacts to sync to HER new iPhone, just like they already do to mine.  But I can't figure out how to CHANGE her iMac user account from using MY iCloud account on the iMac to using HER new iCloud account, and then having HER iCloud account speak to MY iCloud account but share JUST our calendars and contacts.
Originally I tried a workaround by simply having her iPhone log into my iCloud account.  That works great for the calendars and the contacts.  But...she can't sync anything else from her iMac account to her new iPhone because she's presently "forced" to use my iCloud account.  And neither of us want to sync our other things to each other's iMac accounts or iPhones.  Also as we're both using my iCloud account, in things like the Find My iPhone app, the Cloud is seeking two phones labeled with my name and none with her's.  So we definitely don't want this as the set-up and communications network between our devices.
We want to set up our users on the iMac to sync to our SEPARATE AND DIFFERENT iCloud accounts and then have those iCloud accounts sync calendars and contacts (ONLY) between themselves, and then push that data to our separate iPhones (or the other way, from either of our iPhones to the individual accounts on our iMac and the other person's iPhone).  Does this description make sense to you?  I've diagramed it nicely using Keynote, but even thiough I can draw it, I can't figure out how to set up and configure all the devices to make it work.  If you would like me to send the Keynote slides (just two of them - the current and desired configurations - please send your email address to me at [email protected] and I'll be happy to forward it to you.
If anyone can help me set this up I'd be most appreciative!  Thanks so much.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all readers in this community!

    BobT.
I had the same problem, and decided to look into it last night.
First of all, the solution I would like to have is for Apple to allow for selection of iCloud accounts per application, i.e. Contacts to one, Photo Stream to another. I believe this would be the most straight forward solution for the problem we are facing.
Since this is not an option I came up with a workaround. I was most interested in solving this for Contacts, so this is what I tested for. Now I have all 3 devices with the same contacts.
    1) Turn off iCloud for Contacts on all devices. On the device that has the Contacts list that you would like to propagate to all others select to keep the contacts, and on the others select not to keep them.
Note that the current backups still exist on iCloud, so in case something goes wrong you can still turn the iCloud for Contacts back on to get your current Contacts back.
    2) In iTunes, sync All Contacts with the phones, starting with the one with the Contacts content you chose to keep.
From this point on, the 3 devices should sync contacts with each other.
This, of course, will stop your iCloud backups of Contacts, but I don't think this is really needed. You are already storing copies of your Conacts on 3 devices, which for good parts of the day are likely not all co-located. You also potentially have Time Machine backups turned on, which would mean there is a 4th copy there as well. For the case of Contacts iCloud only complicates matter ... that is until Apple implements the solution I first wrote about.

  • Can two user accounts of one computer use two different Mac ID accounts?  I'd like to keep separate accounts for movies, music etc.

I have a Mac Air running 10.8.5, with two users on it.  I'd like to keep separate Apple store accounts accounts for the two users, as we have separate music, movies, books etc.  To date, we've had separate computers, but now will share the one computer.  But when the second account is signed in and we try to sign in to the I-tunes store, or authorise the computer with the second account, the response is "the I-Tunes store is not available" or "we cannot fulfil your request at this time".  Togetherness is nice, but I'd prefer to have some privacy.

    Hi Harrike2000,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re running into an iTunes Store connection issue in one of the user accounts on your MacBook Air, and you want to know if the issue is related to using multiple Apple IDs or user accounts.
You can use multiple user accounts and Apple IDs with one computer, see this article for more information:
How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer - Apple Support
For the issue connecting to the iTunes Store, try the suggestions in the article linked below.

    Troubleshoot issues on a Mac
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store, a software conflict or your Internet service provider (ISP) may be blocking your access.
Update iTunes and Safari to the latest version.
If you have a firewall, your settings may be preventing you from connecting to the iTunes Store. Follow these steps to configure your firewall.
You may need to reset your keychain. Connection issues are occasionally caused by keychain issues. Learn how to use Keychain First Aid to resolve any issues with your keychain.
If you're receiving a specific error message, follow these steps.

  • Two user accounts after Migration from old Mac

Yesterday I bought a new iMac with OSX Lion. I used the Setup assistant to move my data from my old iMac (Leopard) using Firewire target disk mode.
When that was finished, I was suprised not to see any of my old stuff on my new Mac, so I started copying some stuff manually. It was only later that my penny dropped (Lion noobie here) and I realised I now have two user accounts: my new "Lion" account, and another one which - tada - does contain all my old stuff. Both appear to be admin accounts.
Since I already manually copied all the stuff I wanted to keep to my new account, can I safely delete the old account? How do I do this, and what happens with the old stuff? I read something about the home folder of the deleted user being moved somewhere. Where would that be?
    Thanks!

It is easy to delete an account but you wisely used the word "safely".  When I migrated to Lion I did an "in place" upgrade and no new adminstrative accounts were created.   Lion will create a guest acount but that can be easily disabled in the Users and Groups preference pane.  Did you do an in place or a clean install of Lion?
First, before you delete anything be absolutely sure that the account you want to keep has everything you need.  I suggest you work with it a least a week before making that judgement.  There is no hurry if you have the space to keep two accounts.  I have a spare adminstrative account just in case I need it for troubleshooting.  Be sure you backed up your boot drive with a versioned (like Time Machine) and a cloned backup to an external drive.
Go to System Preferences and choose the Users and Groups preference pane.  There you will find your accounts and their designations (i.e. adminstrator, guest, standard).   If you are completely satisfied that the admin account you backed up is all you need then you can click on the lock at the bottom left of that pane, enter your adminstrative password, choose the account you want to delete and click the minus button.  Once you have done this, it is gone.  All of the settings and data you had will be gone unless they were duplicated in another account.  Your applications should remain.
That said, there is nothing wrong with having two adminstrator accounts.  Some very security minded people suggest that you should not operate from your admin account because it allows access to deep levels in your computer.

  • Can two users access the same bootcamp (win os) instance?

We are two users who are using our imac and we both have own user names in mac os. I created a bootcamp partition with windows xp on it. Can both users access the same partition and create their own user spaces within xp?
Will that work also if we use Parallel or virtual box? (access the same user data as in boot camp?)
I would like to have the option for each user to access their windows data either through bootcamp or through the virtual tool.

Running on its own partition means that the installed OS has its own formatted portion (partition) of the hard drive. A virtual machine does not have its own partition. It creates a virtual partition (a file on the computer) that simulates a file system (partition). So Virtual Box, or any other virtualization software, does not run Windows, or any other OS in its own partition.

  • Two users opened the same file at the same time with file on Win2K Server

I just had a problem with a file that could not be saved. After a little investigation I discovered that two users had the same file open at the same time. This is with both users using InDesign CS2 and saving to a Windows 2000 Server. Any ideas how this even happened? The only thing I can think of is if they both opened the file at the exact same time but even that I doubt. I guess the more likely possibility is that the user on 10.5 (which we have had a lot of problems with, it's hard to tell how many of them are CS3 problems (yes CS3) and how many are Windows 2003 Server problems) had InDesign CS2 flake out and not tell her the file was open. Has anybody else seen this? The other user was using 10.4. Both computers have the most recent updates for the OS and for their various adobe products.

I have videos on mov file and my quick time player does not play them.
The MOV file container is the generic QT file container. Any audio and video data compatible with the computer system used to create the file can be placed in the MOV file container. Unfortunate, other systems cannot play the file unless they too are configured with the same components as those used to create the file. The normal procedure here is to use the Finder "Info" or alternative media play "Inspector" window to determine what codecs were used to create the original file and, if they are available for your Mac, install them on your system for playback use. Also be advised that some "legacy" codecs may require playback in the QT 7 Player for proper QT support.
I opened with other players, there is no sound. Then I opened the same file on my windows 7, it plays perfectly with the sound and everything? What is the problem?
This would indicate these players either access your QT codec component configuration which does not include the required codec or the app has its own built-in codec support which does not include the required audio codec but you Windows 7 media player is configured with the required codec support. This may incidate the use of a really old codecs that may or may not be available/supported on a Mac any longer.

  • Two users (on the same Mac) using same RAID simultaneously?

O.K. I know you should never never ever connect two different Macs to the same RAID unless using Xsan. . .
How about connecting two users on the same Mac simultaneously?
In other words, can I have one user manipulating data on the RAID in the background while reading the data using a second user (on the same Mac)?
    Thanks,
    Ed

That depends on the application in question.
Since all the data requests are coming from the same Mac, you don't have the issues you would have if you had two different machines talking at the same time.
However, it now depends on whether the application(s) you're using supports file locks.
As long as the application that's manipulating the data properly locks the part of the file it's working on, and that the application you're using to read the file reads the locks and knows whether or not it's OK to use that part of the file, you should be OK.
