Data log file refnum - what is it?
Hello all,
i want know what is it data log file refnum and how to use it.
Thanks.
A datalog file is a file that stores data as a sequence of records of a single, arbitrary data type that you specify when you create the file. Although all the records in a datalog file must be a single type, that type can be complex. For instance, you can specify that each record is a cluster that contains a string, a number, and an array.
You could use a datalog file refnum if, for instance, you were creating a subVI which will be accepting a datalog file as an input. You could use this refnum to write to the file and perform other actions on it.

Data Log File Refnum Type Def Bug??
Hello,
I just found some quirky behaviour (LV 7.1.1):
1. In the attached LLB, open "RefnumVI.vi"
2. Select the Data Log File Refnum control and open it for editing (Edit - Customize Control ... from the menu)
3. Close "RefnumVI.vi" but leave "Refnum.ctl" open
4. Select the enum inside the refnum container, and open it
5. Select File - Save As ... and save the enum as "RefnumEnum2.ctl"
6. Close the enum
7. Save "Refnum.ctl", and close it
8. Reopen "RefnumVI.vi" and display its hierarchy (Browse - Show VI Hierarchy from the menu)
Notice that "RefnumVI.vi" still has a link to "RefnumEnum.ctl", even though we saved this as "RefnumEnum2.ctl" earlier.
If you go back to the VI, right click on the refnum, and replace it with itself (i.e. select "Refnum.ctl"), the link disappears.
This behaviour does not happen if I use a Cluster instead of a Data Log File Refnum. I imagine the difference is that the calling VI needs to know about the structure of the data log file in ways it doesn't need to know about the structure of a cluster, but this still is very counter-intuitive behaviour. Is this really expected? Or is it a bug? Is there any other way to remove the link?
Cheers,
Jaegen

RefnumEnumBug.llb 22 KBNathan,
Thanks for your response - I have 8.2 and am in the process of evaluating how/when to upgrade.
Does this mean that the compiler/linker is behaving differently depending on where you open a type def from? The reason I'm asking is that I've seen similar behavior when editing a hierarchy of type defs; depending on how I open the low-level type def I'm actually editing, changes will or won't get propagated to other instances properly.
Regarding this actual problem, the issue I had is that the data log file refnum type def exists on many VIs, and thus the incorrect link now exists on many VIs, and I don't see any way of correcting the problem without manually replacing the type def with itself in every location (given there's no "Replace All" feature in LV 7.1.1 ). However, the hierarchy I'm dealing with was only created for testing, so I don't actually need to fix it . I'll just know to avoid causing this problem in the first place in the future.

how to get SQL server Total DB size , Total DB free space , Total Data & Log File Sizes and Total Data & Log File free Sizes from a list of server
Hi Shivanq,
To get a list of databases, their sizes and the space available in each on the local SQL instance.
dir SQLSERVER:\SQL\localhost\default\databases | Select Name, Size, SpaceAvailable | ft -auto
This article is also helpful for you to get DB and Log File size information:

I hope this helps. -

Mac mini freezes regularly - log file enclosed - what do I need to do?
Hi,
My mini crashes every couple of days - and has to be rebooted. I've been updating the OS and software regularly but it continues to freeze and has to be rebooted each time. I'm enclosing a typical log file from a crash. Any help / insight about what to do to fix this would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Removing Redo Log Files? What's Normal?
Hello,
I'm new to Oracle and I've been using Informix for years. We currently have Oracle 9.2 running on Windows 2000 Server machine and apparently the redo log files keep filling up the disk drives they reside on. This is happening about every two weeks since we go out and delete the files when we remember.
My question is does Oracle have a "normal" way of removing old redo logs automatically rather than having to remove them manually? In the Informix world I can set the logical logs so that they write over previously used logs once they are no longer used. Is there a similar way to configure Oracle?
Thanks for helping out.
Gregg WalkerDo not delete your old log files: you need them.
That's how Oracle does recovery when you lose a datafile or a drive. You copy over the missing stuff from your back-up and then Oracle re-applies the chnages from the REDO logs thereby bringing your database back up to date. No work lost. Result!
Of course, if you don't take up a backup then holding on to REDO logs is pointless. In which case, set the database to run in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
However, I strongly advise you to run in ARCHIVELOG mode. You may find this part of the administrator's guide informative: http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96521/archredo.htm#4553

Need example with write to DATA log file programmatically?
Hi all,
I would like to request for an example of writing a datalog (*.DAT) file which could do this.
Datalog file.
NAME: AGE: SEX: (header)
john 16 M (data)
marie 55 F
Dolah 34 M
The program can also let me to add in new data and then store in the same file.dat. The data (hopefully) can be written to the bottom of the last saved entry of data. (eg. after the row Dolah).
I need to do this so that I can open and read back the datalog file and use the data for other purpose.
Please help,
juniYou've got some examples in Fundamentals>File Input and Output but one of the easiest things to do is to modify Write Strings to Spreadsheet File.vi to write strings as detailed at the bottom of the diagram and then save it to a different place and with a different name.

Working Linux command to grep date range in a log file
Linux Gurus,
Could you please help me with command to show only those lines in a log file which falls under some date range, probably using grep command.
Our server logs are in following format <Jun 23, 2013 12:45:02 AM UTC>
Regards,
VarunPerhaps you can do the following:
Go to Google.
Type "working Linux command to grep date range in a log file"
See what results you might get from that search. ( I did, and got more than 600,000 search results.) -
I'm having problems backing up a Hyper-V virtualized Exchange 2007 server with DPM 2012. The guest has one VHD for the OS, and two pass-through volumes, one for logs and one for the databases. I have three protection groups:
System State - protects only the system state of the mail server, runs at 4AM every morning
Exchange Databases - protects the Exchange stores, 15 minute syncs with an express full at 6:30PM every day
VM - Protecting the server hosting the Exchange VM. Does an child partition snapshot backup of the Exchange server guest with an express full at 9:30PM every day
The problem I'm experiencing is that every time the VM express full completes I start receiving errors on the Exchange Database synchronizations stating that a log file discontinuity was detected. I did some poking around in the logs on the Exchange server
and sure enough, it looks like the child partition snapshot backup is causing Exchange to truncate the log files even though the logs and databases are on pass-through disks and aren't covered by the child partition snapshot.
What is the correct way to back up an entire virtualized Exchange server, system state, databases, OS drive and all?I just created a new protection group. I added "Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot\MailServer", short-term protection using disk, and automatically create the replica over the network immediately. This new protection group contains only the child partition
snapshot backup. No Exchange backups of any kind.
The replica creation begins. Soon after, the following events show up in the Application log:

Description:
Information Store (3572) Shadow copy instance 2051 starting. This will be a Full shadow copy.
=================================
The events continue on, basically snapshotting all of Exchange. From the DPM side, the total amount of data transferred tells me that even though Exhange is trunctating its logs, nothing is actually being sent to the DPM server. So this snapshot operation
seems to be superfluous. ~30 minutes later, when my regularly scheduled Exchange job runs, it fails because of a log file discontinuity.
So, in this case at least, a Hyper-V snapshot backup is definitely causing Exchange to truncate the log files. What can I look at to figure out why this is happening? -

I have installed Oracle10Rel2 on a Windows 2000 server. I managed to get an
expdp from a machine but trying to do import I keep getting an error about writing
a log file. What else do I need to set? I even tried setting my directory value to
the location I have UTL_FILE_DIR set to for other processes. Even with Nologfile
specified it says it cannot write it.
Set Data_pump_dir=d:\log_err
expdp jlim/jlimdba01@emtsdb3 dumpfile=export_initial.dmp schemas=MYUSER
impdp jlim/jlimdba01@msgsup2 DUMPFILE=export_initial.dmp NOLOGFILE
Ora-39002: invalid operation
Ora-29070: Unable to open the log file.
Ora-39-087: directory name d:\log_err is invalid.
I am in the directory even.
I am trying to determine if Expdp only schema=Myuser gets everything I used to
get when I exported the User in Oracle 9i including grants, procedures, packages,
and things created by the owner. It seems crazy that I have to login as SYS to create the directory and grant it to a
DBA user so the DBA can import the schema vs just importing like we have in the
past.
My user could not grant to himself for the Directory he created so:
Logged in as SYS, dropped the Directory I created as my DBA User, recreated it
at SYS, and tried to do grants but it says it doesn't exist. I also checked that my
directory and the udump and dpdump directories have Read/Write to everyone.
SQL> drop directory DUMPHERE;
Directory dropped.
SQL> create directory DUMPHERE as 'd:\log_err';
Directory created.
SQL> grant read,write on DUMPHERE to jlim;
grant read, write on DUMPHERE to jlim
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
How come I cannot find a full set of syntax and information on Datapump
anywhere either? This is holding us up to setup a new DB instance in 10g.
