Data Modeler - displaying comments in diagrams

Hi
Is it possible to display the column comments (in RDBMS) in the model diagrams. - Using view details I can control Attributes/DataType/ Keys etc. but I couldn't find a way to display the comments for each column.
Luke

You can't do this in the current early adopter. I have logged an enhancement for this.

  • Generate ER Diagram from Sql Data Modeler

    Hi,
I want to use the Oracle Sql Developer Data Modeler to generate ER diagram for my schema. There are huge number of tables in this schema, so I would like to identify only those tables which need to be selected for generating my ER diagram.
Basically, I want only those table which are having relationship with other tables here. The reason being, if I select all tables in the schema then I would get those tables in the ER diagram which don't have any relationship with other tables.
Can someone please suggest writing queries which yield this from data dictionary?
    Thanks.

Well, your requirement is based on the the database schemas having been designed with proper primary key and foreign key constraints in place.  If they're not there then the database doesn't know about the relationships between tables, and such relationships are just theoretical (and as such usually controlled by the application that uses them).
Of course there are also tables that are used by applications for lookups and other reasons, so they're part of the application and should be included on ER diagrams, even if they have no direct relationship to any one table (or they could have relationships to many tables).
So, rather than try and write queries to figure out what tables are required, why not let the Data Modeller tool generate an ER diagram from the information that IS known about on the database, and then you can see if the relationships exist, or if they're missing and need manually putting on the diagram (or applying to the database).

  • MAM3.0 data model

    Hi,
    Two questions from my side:
    I.
I have just observed a data model diagram picture (containing the 14SyncBos in older versioned MAM and their relation) as a part of a ppt TMOB20-06.. however this picture is hardly readable:-(
I am not quite aware if there is such a data model (SyncBo and relations) diagram for MAM3.0 ? Have you ever seen such or meRepMeta.xml should be enough...
    II.
I saw that there is already a thread here regarding the Javadoc of the mbscore.jar and that there is no such. I really cannot get the idea - how SAP suppose users will use this package stuff without having no documentation on it .. Sorry, if I am misunderstanding the whole picture;-)
    Thanks and best regards,
    Lalo

    HI Lalo,
    I. There is no data model diagram officially released for MAM 3.0. There are not too many changes from MAM2.5 though. Two new SyncBos - 018 (Classifications) and 080 (Signature). More serious change is that a few SyncBos (030, 031, 041 and 050) are only delivered as Server-Driven type now. So if you have not converted them while using MAM2.5 you will have to understand what does this mean. Data replication is quite different. There is a document describing how to set them up in MAM3.0 package.
I think that analysing SyncBos in merep_pd  is easier than meRepMeta.xml file. All relationships are shown in merep_pd.
II. Mbscore is an internal SAP package used by SAP owned applications. So in a way you are not expected to "use" the package explicitly but through SAP applications like MAM. And if you need to enhance them, I beleive the expectations are that you do enhacements following guideline documents provided in MAM package. That is the path encouraged by SAP.

  • Data Modeler / Logical Model / How to display the "relationship name" ?

    Hi,
Oracle SQL Developper Data Modeler 2.0.0 (build 584):
I would like to know if there is a way to display the "relationship name" in the diagram for the logical model in the GUI interface and/or to print it?
I checked in the different setup tool options and I did not find it...
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    Robin Ouellet

    Hi Robin,
you cannot "show" relationship name on logical diagram - you can show "name on source" and "name on target" properties. You can set them at cardinality page of relationship dialog, And make them visible in "Tools>General options>Diagram>Logical model" settings - it's "Show Source/Target Name" option.
For printing - you can use "File>Print Diagram" to print in different format. Also "File>Print" allow diagram to be printed to printer, plotter or PDF printer if you have one installed.

  • CM14 BI Publisher - modifying an existing Data Model, the Graphic View in Query Builder does not display

I am trying to edit the default forms/reports that come with CM14, trying to edit the data model, data set, (to get to the old Infomaker style graphic view) , the Query model does not display (error the list of tables is too long..) Oracle tell me the limit is 60,  there are not 60 tables referenced in any CM report.
Does this Query builder view work at all on any report?
(bigger question, we are moving from CM12, should we move to CM13 which works with infomaker?)
    Thanks,
    Paul L

    Kurt, thanks for your replies.
    A couple of notes/clarifications.
    1.     You are correct that BI works better in Firefox--I have observed issues with the BI display when using IE.  I would recommend using Firefox too.
    2.     You are correct about the way to get to the Query Builder to see a graphical view of data tables.  There are basically two issues with this that I mentioned, but will re-iterate:
    a.  If you have an EXISTING query in the data set, then click the "Query Builder" button, this will remove the existing query that's there, it will NOT display the existing query in the query builder.  Query Builder works only to create a NEW query from scratch.
    b.  Query builder is limited to selecting 60 fields max in your query.  If you are creating a large report with many tables, you may find that 60 fields is not enough.  For that you will have to work in the SQL edit screen rather than using the query builder.
I would impress on anyone developing CM14 reports that they become familiar with the database schema and relationships to avoid problems when developing your BI reports.  You should be able to find the tables and joins documentation in the knowledgebase.

  • How Can I include a logical data model in a Data Flow Diagram?

    Hi,
I have done a logical data model and now, I want to include it in a data flow diagram. I do not know which element I should use to make this relation.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
you need to create "Information structure" in the flow properties dialog and then can assign attributes to that information structure in its properties dialog

  • Data Modeler - legend in diagrams

It would be really good to be able to add a legend with summary information in Data Modeler diagrams. (I am using Data Modeler Version 3.1.0.691).

  • Data model 0G: No authorization for entity type Account (Company Code) - activity Display

    Hello Expert,
I have a problem with authorization in MDG-F.
I want to create Account with Collective processing. After, entered Entity type, Edition and Chart of account,  Blocking message "Data model 0G: No authorization for entity type Account (Company Code) - activity Display" is displayed.
But, i checked in PFCG transaction, for this user profil, activity are : create or generate, Change and display. So, for me , it is correct.
Please, check screen shot below :
    Blocking message :
    and in PFCG transaction
Could you help me to solve this point?
    Kind regards,
    Heri RAOELISON

    Hi Heri,
the system behavior is correct. The account in company code consists of three entity types:
    1) COA - Chart of Accounts (Type 3)
    2) ACCOUNT - Account (A-Segment, related to ECC table SKA1, Type 1)
    3) ACCCCDET - Account in Company Code (B-Segment, releated to ECC table SKB1, Type 1).
    3) includes 1) and 2) whereas 2) includes 1). If you grant authorization only for 3) but not for 1) and 2), you cannot do anything.
    Best regards

  • Data Models and Data Flow diagrams.

    Hi  Gurus,
Can anybody brief me the concept of Data Models and Data Flow Diagrams and their development with illustrations. And is it a responsibility of a Technical or a Functional consultant..i.e to translate Business requirements and functional specifications into technical specifications, data flow diagrams and data models.
Your valuable answers will be rewarded.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Concept of Data Models
Data model or Data modelling is basically how you define or design your BW Architecture based on Business requirements. It deals with designing and creating a effcient BW architecture sticking to standard practices.

    Data Flow Diagrams
This show the path of data flow for each individual object in BW. How data dets loaded into that object and how it is going out of the object etc.
Right click on the data target > show data flow .
It shows all the intermdeiate layer through which data comes into that particular object.
Responsibility of a Technical or a Functional consultant
This is done genrally in the designing phase itself by a Senior Technical Consultant with the help of a Functional consultant or a Techno=Functional consultant interacting with Business.
    Hope this helps.

  • Including table and column comment in the Data Modeler

    Hi all,
I used Oracle's SQL Developer Data Modeler (Version 3.0.0.665) and created a data model for my project. I e-mailed a PDF format of the data model to our Systems Analyst. She asked if I could re-create the data model and include table and column comments. Is this a possibility and if so how is this done?
    Thank you for your input,
    Seyed

    Hi Kent,
Using the information you provided and Oracle’s Working with SQL Developer Modeler Reporting I did the following:
    1) Created a Reporting Schema User
1.1) Using my Oracle 10g Personal Edition, I created a new user and gave him DBA administrative privileges
    2) Exported Relational Design to Reporting Schema
    2.1) Opened the Relational Design
2.2) Exported it to the Reporting Schema. Note, I never got a message ‘Design has been exported successfully’.
    3) Reviewed the Report Results
I think exporting the relational design was not successful, and didn’t get any error messages. Had step 2 completed successfully, I would have reviewed the Report Results in SQL Developer. By the way, I know I have marked this topic as closed, but would like to learn your method too.
    Thank you for your help,
    Seyed

  • Open Toad Data Modeler diagram with SQL Data Modeler

hi, I've made a diagram with TOAD Data Modeler in Windows. Now I'm working with Linux, so I need a portable application to work with. Oracle SQL Data Modeler seems to be the solution to my problems, but I can't open/import my TOAD's diagrams into SQL Data Modeler.
Anyone knows how to do it?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Neuquino,
there is no import from TOAD Data Modeler. You can generate DDL script with TOAD DM and import that script.

  • Import or Convert Visio database diagram for SQL Developer Data Modeling

    Hi,
Would you please advise on how it would be possible to convert an existing Visio 2007 ERD diagram for import into SQL Developer Data Modeling?
I have tried to save the model as XML Stencil, Template and Drawing, but could not successfully import it into SQL Developer Data Modeling.
    Appreciate your input on this!
    Cheers!

Those are just drawing formats and don't contain any useful information about the datamodel. If you can generate ddl from the diagram you can import that, but visio is really just a drawing tool with partial data modeling addins.

  • Data Type displayed as unknown in Data models

    Hi,
When I import ddl file, some of the data types are not getting interpreted correctly in the data model. For eg, data types datetime and signednumber are being displayed as unknown. I tried adding Logical Type mappings for signednumber (Tools-> Types Administration), but it still displays as unknown. Is there any solution for this issue?
    Thanks,

  • Data Modeler 4 Can't see printing page grid (page borders) in model diagram

    Hello,
I've read that Data Modeler 4 now shows page borders for a diagram, so it would be much easier to prepare the diagram for printing on pages. I can't see these page grid border lines on my diagrams.
Can you please help me with configuring this?
I go to my "Relational Models", I see the diagram, I right-click on the diagram, select "Show" and I see "Grid", "Labels", "Legend", then I select "Grid" and I see dots on my diagram but no page border lines.
    I have version 4.0.0.825 installed.
    Thank you,
    Milan

    Thank you Philip.
I guess I was so happy about this new printing feature that I didn't read that last paragraph. You can guess that my next question is "do you know when is next release coming?".
I've been wondering for quite some time now, how is it possible that Oracle allows that printing diagrams in Data Modeler is so complicated. I know that product is free, but still, we are talking about Oracle standards here. They should just task a couple of managers involved in data modeler development to print a 50-table diagram on letter size pages (many people don't have access to a plotter), and they will quickly realize how complicated and time-wasting it is.
At the end, and if I'm not mistaken, blagodaram / благодарим
