Data Pump - expdp / impdp utility question
HiAll,
As a basic exercise to learn Data pump, I am trying to export schema scott and then want to load the dump file into a test_t schema in the same database.
--1. created dir object from sysdba
CREATE DIRECTORY dpump_dir1 AS 'C:\output_dir';
--2. created dir on the OS as c:/output_dit
--3. run expdp
expdp system/*****@orcl schemas=scott DIRECTORY=dpump_dir1 JOB_NAME=hr DUMPFILE=scott_orcl_nov5.dmp PARALLEL=4
--4. create test_t schema and grant dba to it.
--5. run impdp
impdp system/*****@orcl schemas=test_t DIRECTORY=dpump_dir1 JOB_NAME=hr DUMPFILE=scott_orcl_nov5.dmp PARALLEL=8
it fails here as ORA39165 : schema test_t not found. However the schema test_t does exist.
So, I am not sure why it should give this error. It seems that the schema of Scott from the expdp dump file can not be loaded to any other schema but only to a schema named scott...Is it right? If yes then how can I load all the objects of schema say scott to another schema say test_t? It would be helpful if you can please show the respective expdp and impdp command.
Thanks a lot
KS
The test_t schema does not exist in the export dump file, you should remap from input scott schema to the target test_t schema.

Data Pump - expdp and slow performance on specific tables
Hi there
I have af data pump export af a schema. Most of the 700 tables is exported very quickly (direct path) but a couple of them seems to be extremenly slow.
I have chekced:
- no lobs
- no long/raw
- no VPD
- no partitions
- no bitmapped index
- just date, number, varchar2's
I'm runing with trace 400300
But I'm having trouble reading the output from it. It seems that some of the slow performning tables is runinng with method 4??? Can anyone find an explanation for the method in the trace:
1 > direct path (i think)
2 > external table (i think)
4 > ?
others?
I have done some stats using v$filestat/v$session_wait (history) - and it seems that we always wait for DB seq file read - and doing lots and lots of SINGLEBLKRDS. Not undo is read
I have a table 2.5 GB -> 3 minutes
and then this (in my eyes) similar table 2.4 GB > 1½ hrs.
There are 367.000 blks (8 K) and avg rowlen = 71
I'm on Oracle 11.2 on a Linux box with plenty of RAM and CPU power.

Expdp/impdp quick question
I just did a export of around 20 schemas from my production database.
expdp userid=system/pwd schemas=('a','b',...'x') dumpfile=xxx logfile=yyyy directory=....
Is is possible for me to import just one particular schema into my test database by specifying the schema of interest??? (in this case schema a)
impdp userid=system/pwd schemas=('a') dumpfile=.... logfile=... directory=...Sorry, you'll need to close and repost. I am not authorized to move the thread.

Oracle Data Pump (expdp) credentials via cron job
I have Oracle 10.2 on Linux Red Hat Server. In additions to performing appropriate backups of my database I also have a cron job I use to performa full logical export using expdp every night to export user objects in the event that a singleobjects needs recovered. This is an extra safeguard for object recovery.
Currently I do my export (expdp) via a cron job run as the oracle software owner as a db user with db credentials specified. I would however like to change this script to essentially run as sys by doing something like "expdp / as sysdba... " However it appears doing so actually requires the password to be supplied and to run expdp as "expdp sys/password as sysdba".
does anyone have experience performng an expdp as sys without specifying the password... essentially being able to do "/ as sysdba"?
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks for any suggestions.I appreciate all comments. At the expense of being long winded I did not get into all the details. But to be more clear I want to say
1. I am using a parfile as to hide the password from the ps command.
2. I also understand that doing it as sysdba is not recommended but i thought if I did so I could eliminate need for storing clear text password.
3. This system is on a seperate "air-gapped" (a.k.a "sneaker-net") from the outside world and is a better protected than if sitting somewhere near the internet.
4. Historically we have not been permitted to use OP$ accounts. This may be a legacy issue,and will (re-)investigate this as an option.
5. Just to be clear, I really do not want to do a full export as sysdba. In fact currently I am doing it as a user with EXP_FULL_DATABASE role. However, that requires password to be stored in file (parfile). The file has it in clear text which is still not optimal because System Admins could gain access to this password (Yes I know system admins could do larger damage, but we still need to protect the passwords).
I am going to look at calling the API directly, and OP$ if needed.
Thanks for the suggestions. -
Using Data Pump when database is read-only
Hello
I used flashback and returned my database to the past time then I opened the database read only
then I wanted use data pump(expdp) for exporting a schema but I encounter this error
ORA-31626: job does not exist
ORA-31633: unable to create master table "SYS.SYS_EXPORT_SCHEMA_05"
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_ERROR", line 95
ORA-06512: at "SYS.KUPV$FT", line 863
ORA-16000: database open for read-only access
but I could by exp, export that schema
My question is that , don't I can use Data Pump while database is read only ? or do you know any resolution for the issue ?
thanksYou need to use NETWORK_LINK, so the required tables are created in a read/write database and the data is read from the read only database using a database link:
SYSTEM@db_rw> create database link db_r_only
2 connect to system identified by oracle using 'db_r_only';
$ expdp system/oracle@db_rw network_link=db_r_only directory=data_pump_dir schemas=scott dumpfile=scott.dmpbut I tried it with 10.2.0.4 and found and error:

I found in Metalink the bug 7331929 which is solved in 11.2! I haven't tested this procedure with prior versions or with 11g so I don't know if this bug only affects to 10.2.0.4 or 10* and 11.1*

HAVE TRIED ALL THE FOLLOWING AND LATER GOT STUCK IN MY LIL EFFORT TO DOCUMENT AS I GO ALONG:
USING DATA PUMP TO EXPORT DATA
First:
Create a directory object or use one that already exists.
I created a directory object: grant
CREATE DIRECTORY "DATA_PUMP_DIR" AS '/home/oracle/my_dump_dir'
Grant read, write on directory DATA_PUMP_DIR to user;
Where user will be the user such as sys, public, oracle etc.
For example to create a directory object named expdp_dir located at /u01/backup/exports enter the following sql statement:
SQL> create directory expdp_dir as '/u01/backup/exports'
then grant read and write permissions to the users who will be performing the data pump export and import.
SQL> grant read,write on directory dpexp_dir to system, user1, user2, user3;
http://wiki.oracle.com/page/Data+Pump+Export+(expdp)+and+Data+Pump+Import(impdp)?t=anon
To view directory objects that already exist
- use EM: under Administration tab to schema section and select Directory Objects
- DESC the views: ALL_DIRECTORIES, DBA_DIRECTORIES
select * from all_directories;
select * from dba_directories;
export schema using expdb
expdp system/SCHMOE DUMPFILE=patsy_schema.dmp
DIRECTORY=DATA_PUMP_DIR SCHEMAS = PATSY
expdp system/PASS DUMPFILE=METADATA_ONLY_schema.dmp DIRECTORY=DATA_PUMP_DIR TABLESPACES = USER_SEG CONTENT=METADATA_ONLY

so how can i move the schema and tablespace with all the tables and keeping the tablespace name and same username patsy that i created to import into.
tried again and get some errrors: this is beter than last time and that because i remap_tablespace:USER_SEG:USERS
BUT I WANT TO HAVE THE TABLESPACE IN TARGET CALLED USER_SEG TOO. DO I HAVE TO CREATE IT OR ?

Re: 10g to 11gR2 Upgrade using Data Pump Import
Hi Srini,
I read the below documented in export/import.
"Grants on objects owned by the SYS schema are never exported."
If this is the case, how do we import the grants in target database as we see many invalids due to grants.
For example, I'm using expdp to export 11gr1 database from solaris and importing in 11gr2 database in RHEL.
In target I see many invalids and when try to compile it manually it throws an error "insufficient privileges" which is missing grants in CTXSYS schema.
How do we go about it.I branched this for you.
The answer is not with Data Pump. Data Pump (expdp) and the old export utility (exp) does not support exporting grants on Oracle schemas. You would have to find these grants yourself and then reapply them on the target database.
Probably not the answer you wanted, but with Data Pump, anything that is currently owned by the Oracle schemas is not exportable.

Log file's format in expdp\impdp
Hi all,
I need to set log file format for expdp\impdp utility. I have this format for my dump file - filename=<name>%U.dmp which generates unique names for dump files. How can i generate unique names for log files? It'd better if dump file name and log file names will be the same.
Regards,
rustam_tjHi Srini, thanks for advice.
I read doc which you suggest me. The only thing which i found there is:
Log files and SQL files overwrite previously existing files.
So i cant keep previos log files?
My OS is HP-UX (11.3) and database version is 10.2.0.4

Oracle Data Pump - Table Structure change
Hi,
we have daily partitioned table, and for backup we are using data pump (expdp). we policy to drop partition after backup (archiving).
we have archived dump files for 1year, few days back developer made changes with table structure they added one new column to table.
Now we are unable to restore old partitions is there a way to restore partition if new column added / dropped from currect table.
Thanks
SachinIf a new column has been added to the table, you can import only the the data from the old structure to the new structure. Use the parameter CONTENT=DATA_ONLY.

Compatibility of expdp dumpfile with higher impdp utility
Hi All,
I am just confused with the version utilities of datapump...
I am having an expdp dumpfile taken with exp utility of 10.2.0. And i want to import this dumpfile on a higher oracle home 11g R2. 11.2.0 database.
Which type of impdp version utility i have to use.....
Source database version: 10.2.0 expdp version used. 10.2.0
target database version 11.2.0 impdp version ????
Thanks,Hi,
With Data Pump, you always use the utility that shipped with the database. It is not like exp/imp where you use a different version utility to get the correct version dumpfile. In you case, you want to use the expdp on the source that came with the source, and the impdp on the target that came with the target.
As for network import, it is a nice feature that can save you lots of disk space. Let's say that your database is xGB an the dumpfile will be 50% of xGB. You now need the xGB for your source databse, .5xGB for the dumpfile, then you need to copy the dumpfile so another .5xGB plus when you import it, you are at xGB again. This is equal to 3xGB. If you use the network import, you only need the source and target xGB so you are at 2xGB. This is if you can compress your dumpfile to be 50% of the databsae.
If you have a 10gb network interconnect, the network link option can be pretty fast. I have reports of a large HMO moving 3TB/hr using the network link option of Data Pump.

While using data pump (impdp) how to rename references within objects?
using 10g;
what i want to accomplish is to change schema & tablespace ownership using the data pump method via the command line; i have had success using the command line for expdp / impdp. Problem is that there are objects that reference the old schemas that DO NOT get updated (e.g. procedure may reference usr1.table1 in the PL/SQL statement) and this is where i have been UN-successfull). Anyone know of a way to change references from old schema to new schama name in objects(procedures, views, etc) via the command line?
this is what i currently use that works to change schema, tablespace, but will not change references within my objects;
expdp system/<pass> schemas=usr1,usr2 DIRECTORY=dp_dir DUMPFILE=dataPump_BothSchemas.dmp LOGFILE=expdpAllSchema.log parallel=2
impdp system/<pass> DIRECTORY=dp_dir DUMPFILE=dataPump_BothSchemas.dmp LOGFILE=impbothSchToEE.log remap_schema=usr1:newUsr1,usr2:newUsr2 remap_tablespace=old_ts_tables:new_ts_tables full=y
Thanks!
p.s. I have acomplished this using the enterprise manager.(e.g. procedure may reference usr1.table1 in the PL/SQL statement) If you hard coded such reference in stored procedure, you have to manually correct them. Consider use synonym if your storage procedure referencing other schema's objects.

Exporting whole database (10GB) using Data Pump export utility
Hi,
I have a requirement that we have to export the whole database (10GB) using Data Pump export utility because it is not possible to send the 10GB dump in a CD/DVD to the system vendor of our application (to analyze few issues we have).
Now when i checked online full export is available but not able to understand how it works, as we never used this data pump utility, we use normal export method. Also, will data pump reduce the size of the dump file so it can fit in a DVD or can we use Parallel Full DB export utility to split the files and include them in a DVD, is it possible.
Please correct me if i am wrong and kindly help.
Thanks for your help in advance.You need to create a directory object.
sqlplus user/password
create directory foo as '/path_here';
grant all on directory foo to public;
exit;
then run you expdp command.
Data Pump can compress the dumpfile if you are on 11.1 and have the appropriate options. The reason for saying filesize is to limit the size of the dumpfile. If you have 10G and are not compressing and the total dumpfiles are 10G, then by specifying 600MB, you will just have 10G/600MB = 17 dumpfiles that are 600MB. You will have to send them 17 cds. (probably a few more if dumpfiles don't get filled up 100% due to parallel.
Data Pump dumpfiles are written by the server, not the client, so the dumpfiles don't get created in the directory where the job is run.

Question for experts/ wrapping - data pump
Hello All,
In am using ORACLE 10.2.0.4.0
i have an issue while export / import wrapped procedures:
I have some procedures / packages that are wrapped and when i do export for their related schema and then import it to the database, i got the below error
Compilation errors for PROCEDURE PROC_NAME
Error: PLS-00753: malformed or corrupted wrapped unit
Line: 1
Text: CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE "PROC_NAME" wrapped
After i did many tests on this scenario i Noted that:
This error is not appearing on all procedures, there are some that will be corrupted after the import and some will not be corrupted.
After i did the normal import export, i found that the character set of the imp/exp is different then the one of the database, so i changed the character set of the database to be the same as the one used by the import, i redo my tests and i found that this solved the issue of normal imp/exp, so now and if i am doing normal exp/imp the recompilation of procedures will not fail after the normal old import. but at this stage the imp/exp character set has changed again.
The character set of my db was : AR8MSWIN1256 and when i did exp/imp it was for exp /imp AR8ISO8859P6, so i changed the one of my db to AR8ISO8859P6 , after changing the database character set to AR8ISO8859P6 the recompilation was working fine for the normal exp / imp, but now the character set for import/ export changed to AR8MSWIN1256 !! why ?
The Data pump export import was not solved even after changing the character set of the database, the procedures were imported with errors and it was fixed after recompiling it.
My issue that i have too many clients and i am not able always to change the character set of the database because i may face ERROR "ORA-12712: new character set must be a superset of old character set"
Hope the above description is clear,
Any suggestions or ideas to solve the issue of wrapped procedures with expdp/impdp? can i force certain character set for the expdp/impdp ? knowing that with release 10.2.0.1.0 the expdp/impdp is totally not working with the wrapped proceduresAny ideas?
