Jsp file include

Hi!
If I have a common directory in the Tomcat's Webapps directory, where all the includable files are, how can I include one of those jsp files in my web application?
In php you can do this:
include_once ( "../../library/DBConnection.php" );
But can you include a file in jsp, which is not in the directory of the web app, but is in an "upper" directory?
The "<%@ include file="../database.jsp"%>" format is not good.

Really? It is working fine for me. If ../database.jsp doesn't work then the file doesn't exist in the location that tomcat is expecting it to be. you say you have a common folder, so shouldn't it be ../common/database.jsp ?

Well looking at ur code I guess u want to redirect user to
list.jsp page once u execute the statement .
and later u want to return the connection object to pool .
I don't understand why you need to take the help of jaascript to do this
you can do the same thing this way

}finally{
pool.freeConnection("jdbc", con); //db pooling.. connection close()...
response.sendRedirect("ur url");
%>
This way you will ensure that your finally block gets executed
before redirecting the user..

How to include .js file in jsp file?

hi,
i have a jsp file with struts tag. right now i have all the javascript code as a separate function inside the jsp file itself. i want the javascript code to be present in a .js file and i want to refer that .js file from the jsp file with struts tags.
<html:text property="Phone" value="" size="3" maxlength="3"
onkeyup="return autoTab(this, 3, event);"></html:text>
the above is the html tag which will call the function "autoTab" of the .js file. please help.

You include javascript into a jsp in exactly the same way you do with html
<script src="myJavascriptFile.js"/>
It has nothing to do with the jsp per se, but rather the generated HTML page.

Even this is also not possible because, the code in that package is developed by DWR and i am just adding it to my lib folder and importing the respective classes. In the same manner i need to include the *.js* file in the JSP.It took me about 3 minutes reading through the [DWR Getting Started|http://getahead.org/dwr/getstarted] page to learn that you don't have to do any of that. Perhaps you should read that page?

Thanks tolmank, but our weblogic server didn't support jstl, so when I try to using <c:import.. > it doesn't work. If I use <jsp:include page="..."/>, nothing display on the page.

How to include .css file into jsp file in portal application

I have included a .css file in a .jsp file using following tag :
<link rel="<%=componentRequest.getWebResourcePath()%>/css/ts.css">.
I have kept .css file under /dist/css folder.
Preview of jsp file is fine but when I upload the jsp file and .css file to server, Look and feel of the screen is changing. When I paste the style code in jsp file, look and feel is fine.
Can some body suggest me that why the look and feel is changing when I put the style code in css file and include it in jsp.

Weblogic 9.1/10 not working on jsp:directive.include file="file.jspf"/

Does anyone know how to get rid of this problem? I have a jsp page including a sun java studio creator created page fragment using the tag:
<jsp:directive.include file="myHeader.jspf"/>
here myHeader.jspf is a page fragment.
after deployment, weblogic server report error as:
weblogic.servlet.jsp.CompilationException: Failed to compile JSP /Page1.jsp
Page1.jsp:15:57: Error in "C:\bea\user_projects\domains\base_domain\servers\AdminServer\tmp\_WL_user\proj\grb4mk\war\myHeader.jspf" at line 1: The encoding "null" specified in the XML prolog is unsupported.

Any idea? I tried both weblogic 9 and 10, same error, change to
<jsp:include page="myHeader.jspf"/>
works. the question is: why not read jsp 1.2 tag? Any way to make it work with jsp:directive.include tag?

The "jsp:directive.include" tag is only valid in an well-formed XML file that specifies all the relevant namespaces. The "jsp:include" tag is used in a JSP file. I'll bet the beginning of your file shows that you don't have a valid and well-formed XML file.
If you found that "jsp:include" worked, then that confirms you have an ordinary JSP file here. Why are you trying to use the XML form? The result of "jsp:include" in a JSP file will be exactly the same as the analogous tag in an XML file.

Refreshing included JSP file

I've created a simple word-verification login system to stop robots from trying out various password combo's on a user's account.
I've created a separate JSP page that randomly chooses an image from a database, sets a session variable to the word that is spelt in the image. Then when the user types in the word it simply checks that the word the user typed matches the session variable.
Here's a snipet from this file: -

I've managed to sort it using javascript. It's a bit messy, but it works. All the changes are made to login.jsp: -

- User enters word verification in login.jsp
- Posted to process_login.jsp
- If the words don't match then redirect to login.jsp?worderror=true
- login.jsp detects the worderror=true and runs the following script

- The doLoad() method refreshes the login page, including the login image using the refresh method
- It redirects to window.location.href = sURL + "?worderror2=true";
posting worderror2=true prevents login.jsp from entering an infinate loop.

try checking out the include tag from the jakarta utility-taglibs.
it can do this.

(check out "request" tag).

Include a JSP file located in a JAR

how is it possible to include a jsp file which is located in a jar? perhaps someone has already a solution for this hoping
what I already have found out is that jasper parser supports loading JSP files out of JARs, indeed. but when using a <%@import file="foo.jsp"%> directive, this special method is not called. is there some workaround? should I set some special property?

Japanes text in a JSP file that contains an include defining the charset

I am developing a site in Japanese but I am having a problem
with getting dreamweaver to maintain the japanese text when I save
the file. The reason I am having trouble is because Dreamweaver is
looking for the meta tag character set definition within the actual
JSP document that I am saving. However, I am using a JSP include at
the top of this file which calls the head information and within it
the meta tag definition.
The end result is that when I go to save the file I get an
error message that says:
The
document's current encoding can not correctly save all of the
characters within the document. You may want to change to UTF-8 or
an encoding that supports the special characters in this
document.
Then I click the OK button and it saves the file. When I
reopen the file or if open the page using my local version of the
site, I find that Dreamweaver has replaced all the Japanese text
with ??? (question marks).
Can anyone tell me how I can get dreamweave to save the
Japanese without having the encoding set withing that JSP file?

You probably wouldn't. More likely, you'd have an <IMG> tag or the like, whose source would point to a servlet (assuming that the chart/graph has to be generated by Java code).
