Database 9. Generate SQL

Dear people,
I have inherited a database which is running version 9.
I would like to generate a SQL file(s) which have been used to build the database (rather than have to use Enterprise Manager).
With this SQLserver this is possible, and to my great horror an Oracle certified DBA told me its not possible. One has the option apparently when you build a database with the "configuration assistant" but I already have the DB.
Would appreciate any replies on this matter.
Kind regards,
Ben Bookey.

Ben:
Your DBA is partly correct. There is no easy way to generate the scripts required to re-build a database, but it is possible. What Oracle considers a database is a little different than what SqlServer considers a database, a SqlServer database is closer to an Oracle tablespace (although not exactly the same).
Manually creating an Oracle database is a five step process.
1. Create a parameter file
2. Create the base database (i.e system tablespace and Oracle's metadata tables)
3. Create rollback segments
4. Create additional tablespaces for user data etc.
5. Run Oracle supplied catalog scripts.
You can get most of the information you need to generate the CREATE DATABASE command by running:
ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE
then editing the resulting file.
The views DBA_TABLESPACES and DBA_DATA_FILES will give you the information you need to re-create the tablespaces.
DBA_ROLLBACK_SEGS will allow you to generate the CREATE ROLLBACK SEGMENT scripts.
If you need to re-create users and rolls, then DBA_USERS, DBA_ROLES, DBA_TAB_PRIVS, DBA_ROLE_PRIVS, DBA_SYS_PRIVS and possibly DBA_TAB_PRIVS can give you the required information.
Tables can be generated from DBA_TABLES and DBA_TAB_COLUMNS, indexes from DBA_INDEXES and DBA_IND_COLUMNS, and constraints from DBA_CONSTRAINTS and DBA_CONS_COLUMNS.
Triggers can be found in DBA_TRIGGERS. Other things like functions, procedures and packages can be generated from DBA_SOURCE.
As I said, not easy, but possible. There are lots of scripts out there that do some or all of this.
HTH

  • Unable to generate SQL trace file on a 10.2.0.1.0 database

    Hello,
    I am unable to generate SQL trace files on a 10.2.0.1.0 database (OS is Win2003 server 64 bits).
    First I tried the way I used to do it on older databases (8i and 9i) :
    execute dbms_system.set_sql_trace_in_session(sid, serial#, true);
    I got no error, but no file was created in the user dump dest directory.
    Then I've been searching and I've tried other things :
    - I changed the user_dump_dest parameter
    - I changed the tracefiles_public parameter value to "true", by modifying the init.ora file
    - I tried another package :
    exec dbms_monitor.session_trace_enable(139)
    Nothing worked, I can't create any trace file...
    Does anyone have an idea about this issue ?
    thank you for you help !
    Antoine

    Hello,
    thank you all for replying.
    I have 2 instances on this machine, and I've just realized that with the other one I have no problem to generate sql trace files as usual.
    But why the hell is it impossible on the first instance ? What difference between the 2 instances can explain this ?
    This is pretty weird...
    Otherwise I am experiencing serious performance problems on the instance where I can't creat trace files, there must be something wrong with it, but I can't figure it out
    regards,
    Antoine

  • Sql developer database diff - generate script not working

    Using SQL devleloper 2.1. Database diff generate script gives errors making it completely non-usable

    I do get the differences visually (yes, I am bugged that constraints are not smart enough to compare on content of the constraint....problem when the contstraint names are sys-nnnnnn generated). Just cannot create the script.
    Any ideas to solve this issue? Thanks in advance, Kelly

    Can reproduce same issue in 11gR1.. DIFF works fine in 10gR2.
    I noticed that 10gR2 allows something like:
    DBMS_METADATA.SET_TRANSFORM_PARAM(th,'SEGMENT_ATTRIBUTES',0);
    and 11GR2 returns error similar to error SQLNAVIGATOR returns while running diff:
    DBMS_METADATA.SET_TRANSFORM_PARAM(th,'SEGMENT_ATTRIBUTES',0);
    end;
    Error report:

    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA_INT", line 9484
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA", line 3950
    Its safe to assume that this is SQLDEVELOPER bug. Hope it will be addressed sometime.

  • Help! Need to generate SQL script file in every build of every changes in database project on TFS

    Hi everyone,
                I want to accomplish a task in TFS that I need to auto generate the database changes as SQL script file in drop folder for every build.
    For ex.: If I add a table in a database and then check in the changes, I need to get that create table script in the drop folder as .sql file extension
    I want to automate the build too for every check in. Help me out and guide me a step by step procedure because since I am new to TFS build in visual studio.
    Thanks

    Check out SSDT:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/data/tools.aspx
    It can generate a DACPAC which can be used to update a SQL Database through the commandline. To ensure that the .sql file executed is compatible with the target database schema it contains a compiled version of teh schema and will generate the change script
    on-the-fly.
    If you want, you call SqlPackage,exe to generate a SQL script if you want to inspect it before executing.

  • OBIEE generated SQL differs if it's a Physical Table or Select Table...

    Hi!
    I have some tables defined in the Physical Layer, which some are Physical Tables and others are OBIEE "views" (tables created with a Select clause).
    My problem is that the difference in the generated SQL for the same table, differs (as expected) whether it is a Physical Table or a "Select Table". And this difference originates problems in the returned data. When it a Physical Table, the final report returns the correct data, but when it is a Select Table it returns incorrect/incomplete data. The report joins this table with another table from a different Database (it is a join between Sybase IQ and SQL Server).
    This is the generated SQL in the log:
    -- Physical Table generated SQL
    select T182880."sbl_cust_acct_row_id" as c1,
    T182880."sbl_cust_acct_ext_key" as c2,
    T182880."sbl_cust_source_sys" as c3
    from
    "SGC_X_KEY_ACCOUNT" T182880
    order by c2, c3
    -- "Select Table" generated SQL
    select
         sbl_cust_acct_ext_key,
         ltrim(rtrim(sbl_cust_source_sys)) as sbl_cust_source_sys,
         sbl_cust_acct_row_id,
         sbl_cust_acct_camp_contact_row_id,
         ods_date,
         ods_batch_no,
         ods_timestamp
    from dbo.SGC_X_KEY_ACCOUNT
    As you may notice, the main difference is the use of Aliases (which I think that it has no influence in the report result) and the use of "Order By" (which I start to think that it its the main cause to return the correct data).
    Don't forget that OBIEE server is joining the data from this table, with data from another table from a differente database. Therefore, the join is made in memory (OBIEE Engine). Maybe in the OBIEE Engine the Order by is essential to guarantee a correct join...but then again, I have some other tables in the Physical Layer that are defined as "Select" and the generated SQL uses the aliases and the Order by clause...
    In order to solve my problem, I had to transform the "Select Table" into a "Physical Table". The reason it was defined as a "Select Table" was because it had a restriction in the Where Clause (which I eliminated already, althouth the performance wil be worse).
    I'm confused. Help!
    Thanks.
    FPG

    Hi FPG,
    Not sure if this is a potential issue for you at all, but I know it caused me all kinds of headaches before I figured it out. Had to do with "Features" tab Values in the database object's settings in the Physical Layer:
    Different SQL generated for physical table query vs. view object query?
    Mine had to do with SQL from View objects not being submitted as I would expect, sounds like yours has more to do with "Order By"? I believe I remembered seeing some Order By and Group By settings in the "Features" list. You might make a copy of your RPD and experiement around with setting some of those if they aren't already selected and retesting your queries with the new DB settings.

  • OBIEE 11g "WITH SAWITH0 AS" subquery factoring clause in the generated sql

    I've observed that the OBIEE 11g generates in the query log physical query using the WITH (sub-query factoring) clause to make the generated sql elegantly readable. This is great! Thanks for the developers. However I have some questions about this.
    __Background__
    Oracle Database' default behaviour is that if you have only one sub-query in the WITH section, it executes it as an in-line view and does not materialize it before the main sql is executed. If you have more than one, by default the database engine materializes all of them in the order of the definition. In some cases this can completely blow up the SGA and make the query never ending. To divert this behaviour you can apply two hints that work both in inline views and in sub-queries as well: /*+ MATERIALIZE */ and /*+ INLINE*/, however Analytics 11g does not seem to have hint capabilities at the logical table level, only at physical table level.
    If we go with the current defaults, developers not aware of this feature can bump into serious performance issues for the sake of some syntax candy at the generated sql level, I'm afraid.
    __Questions__
    * Is it possible to turn the Analytics server not to use WITH but use inline views instead?
    * Is there any way to sneak in some hints that would put the /*+ INLINE */ hint to the appropriate place in the generated sub-queries if needed
    * Does the Oracle Database have any initialization parameter that can influence this sub-query factoring behavior and divert from the default?

    The WITH statement is not added to make the query more elegant, it's added for performance reasons. If your queries take long to run then you may have a design issue. In a typical DWH DB SGA needs to be seriously increased since the queries ran are much larger and complex than on an OLTP DB. In any case you can disable the WITH statement in the Admin Tool by double clicking on your database object on the physical layer and going to the Features tab. The feature is called WITH_CLAUSE_SUPPORTED.

    Dear Kumar,
    I have checked the datatypes of the table and datatypes of the Pageitems, both the datatypes are same.
    I have created the region using the wizard based on the VO.
    My custom table having only 3 columns and History Columns.Out of 3 columns PersPersonid is Primary key column and I am assigning the sequence value to the column in create method of EO as below
    public void create(AttributeList attributeList) {
    super.create(attributeList);
    setPersPersonid(getOADBTransaction().getSequenceValue("PER_PEOPLE_S"));
    //Here PER_PEOPLE_S is the Sequence
    Thanks,
    Sai

  • Generate SQL Insert Statement using EXPORTED dmp file

    Dear DBAs,
    Kindly inform me that is it possible to generate SQL script file using the exported file dmp,
    I am looking for some option in import utility that generates script without import any rows in the database
    Secondly is there any other way to check the validity of exported dmp file data validity without importing it back into the database.
    Regards,
    Asif

    Hi Satish,
    Yes you are correct the insert into statements won't be avaliable using either the indexfile or the show parameter.I had given these two options as per his 1st post requirement where he had mentioned
    >

  • View the generated sql for fetching a repository item

    Hi guys.
    I am interested in viewing the sql that ATG framework generates to fetch a primary repository item. I would like to use this generated sql, directly on the database and avoid me the pain of having to join multiple tables to get one repository item, basically looking to avoid having to write complex sql queries to fetch information for a repository item as ATG application would view it.
    I know there is a switch somewhere to turn it on, but an example would be great. Thanks!

    Turn on the logging debug on for the repository.
    Peace
    Shaik

  • Generated SQL query question

    In my OBIEE development environment, a report I create in Answers generates the following SQL query to the database:
    select T29323.LOCATION as c1,
    T29323.TOOL_NAME as c2,
    T29323.JOB_NUMBER as c3,
    from
    EDB.EDB_JOB_NUMBER_PARAMETER_T_V T29323
    where
    ( T29323.JOB_NUMBER = 1319511
    and T29323.CREATION_DATE <= TO_DATE('2008-05-21 08:38:18' , 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS')
    and (T29323.LOCATION in ('MOO', 'RR'))
    and T29323.CREATION_DATE >= TO_DATE('2008-05-18 08:38:18' , 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'))
    However, in my OBIEE Production environment the same report generates the following SQL query to the database;
    select D1.c12 as c1,
    D1.c11 as c2,
    D1.c10 as c3
    from
    (select T29323.JOB_NUMBER as c10,
    T29323.TOOL_NAME as c11,
    T29323.LOCATION as c12
    from
    EDB.EDB_JOB_NUMBER_PARAMETER_T_V T29323
    where ( T29323.JOB_NUMBER = 1319511
    and T29323.CREATION_DATE <= TO_DATE('2008-05-21 09:19:03' , 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS')
    and (T29323.LOCATION in ('MOO', 'RR'))
    and T29323.CREATION_DATE >= TO_DATE('2008-05-18 09:19:03' , 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'))
    ) D1
    Any ideas why the queries are different? I have looked through my config files to see if a setting is different, but all are the same.
    I am running OBIEE 10.1.3.3.2
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    I have the same problem with generated SQL querys, I get different result with the same repository, same query in Answers, same OS... in several environments.
    The BI vesion is 10.1.3.4
    Any idea about the question?

  • Can I compare two databases from within SQL Server Management Studio

    Hi everyone.  I haven't found anything online, so I wanted to ask here.  I have two SQL Server databases running on our server.  One is the production database, and another is my development database that I use when I'm working on the program.
    I add tables and columns and stuff to my development database, and was wondering if anyone knew of an easy way to from within Management Studio or something to compare the two databases to make sure that they are the same and show me any differences.
    I generally add tables or columns to both databases at the same time, but I worry that one time I might forget, so I would like to be able to run some sort of compare / check to make sure before releases...
    Thanks everyone for your help.  I greatly appreciate it.

    There is a command line utility that is with Microsoft SQL Management Studio called
    tablediff:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms162843%28v=sql.105%29.aspx
    An example:
    http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1073/sql-server-tablediff-command-line-utility/
    And using it with multiple tables at once looks like some work but doable:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/repltalk/archive/2010/02/21/how-to-run-tablediff-utility-for-all-replicated-published-tables-in-sql-2005-or-sql-2008.aspx
    ...and some custom code to implement in an answer at StackOverflow:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10688/best-tool-for-auto-generating-sql-change-scripts-for-sql-server?rq=1

  • Internal Error - Unable to generate SQL for this Scheduled Workbook

    I am encountering the following error when loading the results of a Scheduled Workbook;
    Internal Error - Unable to generate SQL for this Scheduled Workbook (If you scheduled this workbook using a previous version of Discoverer, please reschedule and re-open)
    This only happens for one of the scheduled workbooks and I am struggling to find an explanation to the problem. There are no reference to database links in the workbook so I can rule that out as a cause.
    Does anyone have any suggestions to what might be causing the problem?
    Many thanks
    Stewart

    Hi,
    The version is OracleBI Discoverer Plus Version 10.1.2.48.18. Do you think this has anything to do with it?If you are on this version, then you have the recommended patches applied.
    Did you try to reschedule the workbook and see if this helps in resolving the issue?
    I would suggest you enable server logging as this may help in collecting more details about the error.
