Database Adapter ResultSet in BPEL Processing

Hi
I have an issue regarding processing a result set in BPEL. My DBAdpater returns a number of rows from a given stored procedure call and it is not that obvious, from the documentation, on how to process the results set one at a time, for example in a while loop.
I have a strongly typed xsd created ready to process and I can count the number of rows returned. The question is, how do I iterate over the results set?
Btw, I am using 11.1.1.5 SOA Suite.
Any help would be much appreciated, pointers to appropriate documentation etc.
Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt,
You have to use while loop for this.
1.) Create 2 variables, totalCount and counter of int type
2.) Use Assign and assign counter=0 and use ora:countNodes(resultset)
to get the total number of nodes return or number of records returned from the DB
3.) In the while loop use condition
totalCount>counter
4.) Use Assign activity and fetch the data u want to, [$counter]
see example below
bpws:getVariableData('info','/ns3:emp[$counter]/ns3:age')
example:
<info>
<emp>
<name>Tom</name>
<age>21</age>
</emp>
<emp>
<name>Tom</name>
<age>21</age>
</emp>
<emp>
<name>Tom</name>
<age>21</age>
</emp>
</info>
5.) Use assign activity and append value of counter=counter+1

  • How to invoke a custom adapter from a BPEL process

    Hi guys,
    I've implemented a custom outbound adapter and deployed successfully on Weblogic V.10.3.4.
    My current installation also consists of Oracle SOA Suite 11g / JDeveloper 11g (11.1.1.4.0)
    In the Weblogic administrator's console,
    *1.* I navigated to:
    Summary of Deployments -> AdapterName -> Configuration -> Outbound Connection Pools
    *2.* Selected: javax.resource.cci.ConnectionFactory and added new JNDI name for Outbound Connection Instance: "*eis/HelloWorld*"
    My task is to invoke the custom adapter from a BPEL process.
    I altered the customAdapter-config.xml so as to be able to use custom adapter wizard from JDeveloper's "Service Adapters" palette,
    and fullfilled the custom adapter wizard's fields accordingly. The 3rd step of the wizard requires Connection Information.
    I added: "*eis/HelloWorld*" in the "*Connection Factory Location*" field.
    Deployed BPEL process successfully, but testing failed due to binding.jca-12510 error:
    "The JCA Binding Component was unable to establish an outbound JCA CCI connection due to the following issue: BINDING.JCA-12510 JCA Resource Adapter location error. Unable to locate the JCA Resource Adapter via .jca binding file element <connection-factory/> The JCA Binding Component is unable to startup the Resource Adapter specified in the <connection-factory/> element: location='eis/HelloWorld'. The reason for this is most likely that either 1) the Resource Adapters RAR file has not been deployed successfully to the WebLogic Application server or 2) the '<jndi-name>' element in weblogic-ra.xml has not been set to eis/HelloWorld. In the last case you will have to add a new WebLogic JCA connection factory (deploy a RAR). Please correct this and then restart the Application Server "I tried to apply (just for testing) "eis/FileAdapter" in the "Connection Factory Location" field of the custom adapter wizard,
    and BPEL successfully invoked the adapter.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks,
    George

    George, What deployment do you have this associated with?

  • Problem with calling AQ JMS Adapter with Asynchronous BPEL Process

    I have a AQ JMS Adapter and i'm invoking the adapter in my BPEL process.
    I'm passing an xml as payload to AQ JMS adapter. When i post the xml in the BPEL Control, i'm getting the follwoing message:
    "Cannot find the specified instance". I have tried 3-4 times but getting same message all the time.
    However, i'm able to publish xml to JMS Topic with synchronous BPEL process.
    I want to use asynchronous BPLE process.
    Please let me know if there is a way to overcome this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanx in Advance.

  • Configuring JMS adapter for a BPEL process which puts a msg in a Q of MQ

    Hi,
    I am trying to develop a BPEL process which picks up a message from a Q in Websphere MQ and puts that message in another Q of MQ after processing that.
    I have updated the oc4j-ra.xml with the following inputs:

  • Oracle SFTP adapter Configuration for BPEL  process (11.1.1.3 )

    Hi All,
    Can someone tell me how to configure the FTP adapter for window's server.
    We already have a bpel process with FTP adapter but it is set up for unix server , we want to change the location to window's server.
    Can any one provide me with what changes need to be made at the ftp adapter level in jdeveloper and also on the weblogic console for the existing bpel process .
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks a lot!
    Will follow the steps as mentioned in the link: SOA / BPM on Oracle Fusion Middleware: SOA Suite 11g - FTP Adapter
    I am confused about the path mentioned while configuring the adapter in jdev Physical path for windows  should be the ftp server path provided by client and it should begin with  \winserver\local    and not like \\winserver\local  ???
    +
    The configuration needs to be done on the weblogic console also as mentioned in the above link so for this FTP server - login details - host ,username /password , serverType is required.

  • Faults generated by Oracle file adapter not reaching BPEL process

    Hi,
    I have a process that uses the Oracle file adapter to receive the contents of a file, and am suffering from a number of problems when it is not able to parse the source file.
    The process is initiated by a receive activity associated with the file adapter partnerline that has the create instance flag ticked.
    One problem is that if the file adapter encounters an error when reading the file, there is no record of anything happening from the BPEL Console. I presume this is because no instance of the process has been created as the error was encountered before invoking the process. The only record I have of a problem ever occuring is in the logfiles.
    To make matters worse, if you select the Delete files after successful retrieval, the source file is deleted even though an exception has been encountered. If you specify the Archive processed files options, it does not archive the file.
    So to summarise the problems:
    * there is no record of an attempt to read, or of a faulty read occurring when trying to read the file from the BPEL console when a faulty read does occurs.
    * no instance of the process is ever created, so it is not possible to implement a fault handler to send out a notification of the problem.
    * when a problem is encountered, the source file is deleted and not archived.
    I assume that this is a bug, so can anyone advise if there is a patch to address these problems?
    Thanks
    Toby

    Ok, so now I'm using a rejection handler to invoke a BPEL process, and have defined the inputVariable type to be rej:RejectionMessage and imported RejectionMessage.wsdl.
    The process is being invoked successfully, and I can see that the processes input contains data.
    So I am writing the opaque MessagePayload to a file successfully using a file adapter, and can see the file content that is written is as I would expect (it matches the file used as input that would have caused the fault - although the content is truncated).
    Now I want to modify the file adapter so that the file's filename is set to the RejectionId attribute of the BPEL process. However, I'm receiving the following message:
    xpath variable/expression expression "/ns2:RejectedMessage/@ns2:RejectionId" is empty at line 50, when attempting reading/copying it.
    Please make sure the variable/expression result "/ns2:RejectedMessage/@ns2:RejectionId" is not empty.
    I can see from the console that the RejectionId is in fact populated, and the copy from the RejectionMessage's MessagePayload is completed ok.
    Does anyone know what's going on here?
    Thanks
    Toby

  • Using a File Adapter in a BPEL process

    Hi,
    I am new to BPEL and currently working on migrating my current integration to a SOA architecture using BPEL processes. The integration requires a file to be read and i plan to use a fileadapter . This file to be read is of fixed length type and i see in the file adapater you can generate an xsd for fixed length file. however i need to specify the range for every column that will be read.
    Eg : Column1 1-10
    Column2 11-25
    Is there a way i can achive this? From what i see now i can only specify the length as a number like 1,2,3,4,5
    Thanks

    In your case, you have to give "10, 25" in field positions which tokenize the columns 1-10 and 11-25.

  • BPEL process initiated by a database adapter causing problems in HA environ

    We are having a High Availability architecture configuration(active - active) for the BPEL System in our production environment.
    The BPEL servers are clustered in the middle tier of the architecture and RAC is used in the database tier of the architecture.
    We have a BPEL process which is initiated by a database adapter.
    This BPEL process polls a source database, reads the data, writes it into a JMS Topic and marks flag as read back to the table.
    A Message Driven Bean(MDB) listens to the JMS Topic, and writes the data in the destination database.
    We have the polling process and the MDB deployed to both the nodes of the BPEL server.
    We have noticed that some records are getting processed by both the nodes.
    This is resulting in duplicate records at the destination tables.
    Kindly advise how we can resolve this issue.

    The BPEL servers are configured with active - active topology and RAC is used in the database tier of the architecture.
    BPEL Servers is not clustered. Load Balancer is used in front of the two nodes of the BPEL servers.

  • BPEL 10.1.2.0.2 with JBOSS deployment descriptor of database adapter

    We use Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.2.0.2 with JBOSS v3.2.6 . In our BPEL processes we use also the DatabaseAdapter.
    We deploy our processe manually with obant, because we are only able to access our productiv-system about putty(ssh).
    For that we have to manually adapt our DatabaseConnectionData,which were created on our development enviroment, in the apropriate wsdl files.
    On our productiv-system we see in the domain-log files following lines:
    <2006-11-08 04:52:44,465> <INFO> <condis.collaxa.cube.ws> <AdapterFramework::Outbound>
    file:/opt/etmn/jboss_bpel/domains/condis/tmp/.bpel_WF_Notifikation_1.0.jar/SetFaultedWS.wsdl [ SetFaultedWS_ptt::SetFaultedWS(InputParameters) ] - Using JCA Connection Pool -

    will then attempt to instantiate ManagedConnectionFactory oracle.tip.adapter.db.DBManagedConnectionFactory directly.
    After some reading in the "Adapters UserGuide" you can find some lines about necessary configuration of the "deployment descriptor of the database adapter"
    concerning the "<jca:address location=..." used in the apropriate wsdl files:
    The adapter service WSDL refers to the run-time connection configured in the
    deployment descriptor of the database adapter. (In Oracle Application Server, it is
    oc4j-ra.xml). The relevant code example for the service WSDL follows:
    <jca:address location="eis/DB/DBL_WFMODUL" UIConnectionName="DBL_WFMODUL"
    ManagedConnectionFactory="oracle.tip.adapter.db.DBManagedConnectionFactory"
    The questions are now:
    What is the apropriate file for the "deployment descriptor of the database adapter" for Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.2.0.2 with JBOSS 3.2.6 ??
    Exist there a description for that?
    What are really the consequences if you configure the "deployment descriptor of the database adapter" or not ?

    Hi Martin,
    Thanks for sharing valuable information of bpel install .
    We are stuck installing bpel pm 10.1.2.0.2 on linux from past one week ,can u plz help us in giving some pointers.
    We downloaded mrca utility from otn and tried to upload the repository into 10g database but we got "ultra search schema not found" error and few other errors.
    Can we use any 10g database or is there any version that we need to use.Can you plz specify the database version that u used for ur install.
    Then we tried to create a repository while installing Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2(J2EE and Web Cache with new OID), which creates a new dbase with a repository loaded into it.
    we tried to run the ldap search command to get the encrypted password but failed to execute that command successfully.finally we tried to change orabpel pwd with alter command. And when we finally started with BPEL PM install and pointed to the above AS home it didnt recognize it and giving error as "plz point to the appropriate Application Server(AS) home and it cant find the AS home in folder in which we specified."
    Can u plz help us and give some pointers in resolving our issues.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Database polling adapter within an asynchronous BPEL process

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to poll a database table withing an asynchronous process. The reason I want to use a receive within an asynchronous BPEL is because the process needs to be notified many times thru polling. So might need many receive activities.
    I have developed a process as described below :-
    1. Created an asynchronous process.
    2. Created a Database adapter for polling a table. Logical delete strategy is being used.
    3. Have put a receive activity from the DB Adapter created.
    4. Created a correlation set consisting of a single property(String)
    5. Created a property alias to refer to
    a. the input string of the asynchronous process. (unique for this process)
    b. the input from the database adapter (unique for this process)
    I initiate this process from the console. Then I inserted a record the table with proper inputs.
    But the BPEL waits indefinitely at the receive activity.
    When I try to poll the table from an empty BPEL process, it works perfectly fine.
    Could someone please help me here.
    Thanks in advance

  • How to use Database adapter as inbound adapter without having polling strategies?

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement wherein I have to use Database adapter to retrieve the data for every half an hour from one(X app) database and update that data into another application(Y app) .That database adapter will be along with BPEL process.My Flow would be like this:
    Database Adapter( In 'exposed services' section) ----->   BPEL (in 'Components') -----> Y app service( in 'External References' section)
    My questions for each step are below
         1) I have to retrieve the data from database(x app database) for every half an hour.So I have to schedule my whole process such that it should execute for every half an hour.
    Means I have to get  whatever the data is updated in the last half an hour in that database.
          The database adapter should be inbound in SOA composite editor(in 'Exposed services' section).
    But in order to have inbound adapter,we have select the 'Poll for New or Changed Records in a Table' option in turn we have to select one of polling operations below:
             Delete the Row(s) that were Read
    Update a Field in the [Table_Name] Table (Logical Delete)
    Update a Sequencing Table
    Update an External Sequencing Table on a Different Database
    Control Table Strategy
    But the problem is I don't have any control on the database(X app database) ,So (I can't update any data on that table,because that table may not have a field or table to update the processed rows)I can't choose any of the above operations.
    How can I achieve what I want that is to retrieve the data and schedule the process?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Heckler,
      Thank you very much for your answer that I can proceed further somehow.
    I still need to have some clarifications.
    In order to have a process which retrieves the data (Inbound operation) and updates the data into other application, the data(from X app)  should be the request(through DB adapter) of the BPEL process.
    X app does not do anything to send.We have(the BPEL process) to receive the data (or) no event is triggered.
    The flow :
    Database Adapter( In 'exposed services' section to retrieve data) ----->   BPEL (in 'Components') -----> Y app service( in 'External References' section)
    How can we ensure the data will be  request to BPEL process(means it will be in 'exposed services' section in SOA composite editor) for every half an hour if we use pick activity and database adapter as first activity?
    When we use ''Poll for New or Changed Records in a Table' ,then only adapter becomes inbound and comes into the 'exposed services' section.I can't use it as I don't have any control on the source table.
    I have this confusion before starting the process.Please help me to clear out the doubts.
    And this whole process should be executed automaticallly for every half an hour(means it creates instance for every half an hour)  Once we build the BPEL process.
    How to schedule it?
    And where do I need to create control table ?You mean I have to use some different database where in I have to create the table?

    Why do i have this exception? Please help!!

    Hi peter, thanks for answering!!
    I don't have anything called sequence so i don't know why I have this error. The steps described in the page you sent to me were followed and the connection is good.
    Do you know if there's any way to know the SQL query executed or the jdbc classes used by the database adapter?

    I'm trying to invoke a database functions inside a bpel process.
    The function is very simple, this is the source code:
    create or replace function FNC_WriteSailing(PEventCode in varchar2, PXML In sys.xmltype) return number is
    begin
    Insert Into table_with_xml_column (filename, xml_document)
    Values (PEventCode, PXML);
    Commit;
    return(1);
    Exception When Others Then Return (0);
    end FNC_WriteSailing;
    I've tried to invoke functions withe only primitive data type as parameter. But i'm not able to invoke functions with CLOB or XMLTYPE parameter.
    I'm using jdeveloper version 11.1.1.4.0
    Could anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

    you're not able to invoke them or you don't see them in the browser of the wizard of the db adapter?
    you should see them in there

  • DBAdapter polling for new or changed records not issuing callback within an asynchronous BPEL process?

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to poll a database table withing an asynchronous process.
    Regards
    Kabir

    Hi Kabir,
    Please refer the following sample for your usecase.
    Though Please be aware that one instance of BPEL process will correlate with only one message if you have one receive activity. Not all the messages tht DBAdapter polls.
    bpel-305-InboundCorrelationShows how to perform message correlation within BPEL
    Also Refer the following in Developer guide.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E28280_01/dev.1111/e10224/bp_correlate.htm#CHDFHAAE
    If you want to keep polling and receiving the messages in the same BPEL process you might have to put the receive activity in a while loop construct. But as a design this is not a good design.
    Can you elaborate your requirement to understand better and suggest better solution.
