Database call in human task

Hello,
Is it possible to make database call to save some data in human task into database and later taking this task and submitting it as done to the process?
What I want to achieve is that when user gets task, he/she opens it and enters some information and saves it into database, later returns, reviews information he/she entered and submits it to process (ends task).
Any suggestions appreciated.

Yes, it is possible assign a group as participant of some human task, passing the group name as parameter.
I have tested just now.
It works pretty well in SOA 11.1.1.4 (BPEL or BPM).
Make sure add a data parameter in your human task definition and pass a valid group name to it.
At the Assignment tab, in the participants' list, add a group, data type by expression, and set the value to the right xpath expression to the corresponding parameter.
For example: /task:task/task:payload/task:group
If it is not working look the SOA log files, probably you'll find some information about the error there. Maybe there is some problem with your jazn.com configuration.
You can also test if there is something wrong related to the group name, trying to transfer some task to the same group by the worklist.

  • Can we call the Human Task operations and the Rule Designer, etc. from outs

    Hi,
    I just had one of my customers ask me -
    Can we call the Human Task operations and the Rule Designer, etc. from outside the SOA Suite ??
    Since these are independent applications, and that they are based on Service Oriented Architecture, I should be able to call these services from outside Oracle SOA Suite (SCA) for reuse.
    In case you have any idea about the possibilities, could you share some real world examples / URLs please ?
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi Vaibhav,
    Yes, you are right. We are using Oracle SOA suite 11g.
    My question is, can these Web Services be directly accessed from, say a .NET application without using BPEL PM, or is using BPEL a must to invoke these services in Human Task operations, Rule Designer, etc ?

  • Payload on Human Task and Task Form

    Hi all,
    I have implemented a simple BPM process on Oracle BPM 11g suite, that it calls a human task activity. The payload, for this activity, is a Data Object (related to external XSD) and it is editable via worklist. The user interface for this Human Task implementation is generated automatically through Auto-Generate actions without any customization.
    The application has been deployed successfully from JDev, but when I open the task by Workspace, I see all fields of payload in read-only mode, so I cannot edit nothing in the task form.
    Please let me know what could be the problem.
    Thanks,
    Paolo

    Are you using ps2 (11.1.1.3)? There was an issue where initiator human task activities that had parameters that were complex types needed to have the Data Object initialized via a script activity, or the fields could not be edited in the task from.
    There's an example of how to use the script in the SalesQuoteDemo. Basically you use the oraext:parseXML() function to create an initialized version of the Data Object and assign it to the Data Object in a script activity that's placed before the Initiator Human Activity. It can also be used to set defaults if needed. Here's a snippet of the expression from the SalesQuoteDemo.
    oraext:parseXML('<ns1:QuoteRequest xmlns:ns1="http://www.mycompany.com/ns/salesquote"><ns1:Summary>....</ns1:Summary<ns1:QuoteRequestStatus/></ns1:QuoteRequest>')

    Have you patched BPEL with any of the MLR releases? Some of the patches contain DB scripts that must be run separately from the patch install.

  • Human Task expiration issue

    Hi,
    I have the following scenario.
    Its a simple BPEL process with string input and string output with a call to Human Task.
    the Human Task has the expiration duration of 5 mins.
    I invoke the process from bpel console and as expected it waits for the human task to respond or expire. during this waiting time I happen to restart the soa server. The server was restarted before the expiration time but still the task did not expire.
    Task still stays with the user assigned and the process is still waiting for the response from the task(which is already passed expire time).
    I am using SOA Suite *10.1.3.4* with a patch set *7714967* applied on top of it.
    I have tried to set the startup recovery also but no help.
    If some body can give me the solution. that would be great.

    I have tried with MLR Patch # 8372150, but no luck. I have found a similar thread on this forum who has the same issue.

  • Initiate Human Task from Mediator

    Hello,
    In SOA Suite 11g, I'm calling a human task from a mediator. How do I pass the input value for the mediator as a parameter for the human task? In other words, how do I assign the input for the mediator to a parameter defined in the human task?
    I've been looking for examples, posts, and documentation on how to do this. I can't seem to find any examples. Am I missing something?
    Thanks

    I found that initiating a human task from a mediator does not work well. I ended up changing the process to initiate the human workflow from a bpel process. It now works very well.

  • Human task callbacks issue

    I ran into some problem using callbacks in human task. For example: onTaskupdated, I invoke a WS call, the human task just ignore that as if there is no callback; however, when I shift the invoke to another branch such as onsubtaskupdate, the callback is ignored on subtaskupdate but ontaskupdate works normally. -.-!

  • AnyType values not showing on Human Task 11g

    Hi All,
    I have a process where the input schema is mapped to an anyType variable. I then map this variable to the payload variable on the Human Task. But when I run this process and go to the worklist, I get nothing. How can I get the data stored on an anyType variable to be displayed on the Human Task Form.
    Any Ideas ?
    Thanks
    K

    I did have a look at the link provided. I have followed the correct steps. I suggest having a look at the xsd I pass to the Human Task. In the xsd you will see the element entityValue which is of type anyType. In this element i map the payload of a bpel process e.g. if the payload has name, surname, address, telephone etc , that will be passed with the values in the entityValue element. Now when I map to the Human Task, I map the element EntityRequest to the Human Task payload. When I trigger the process that calls the Human Task, in the worklist application, I am able to see all other values in my schema below except entityValue. I have also provided a dummy entityValue mapping. I just want it to show whats stored in that element, the highlighted part
    XSD schema thats I am using

  • Call web service from human task

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement to call webservice inside human task flow. I have three participant in my human task flow. Let suppose A, B and C. When A approves then task will be assigned to B and when B approves it will go for C.
    My requirement is that, when A approves , then i need to call one external webservice to update database. I did not get any option to call webservice inside human task flow.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Sunil

    Thanks userN for your wonderful reply but i have one more question.
    As per your instructions i have enabled call back events in Human task flow. In this way i got while loop inside my BPEL. In onTaskAssigned operation i am now trying to call external web service. My requriment is to call external service and get data from service. After getting response from the webservice, i want to assign it to next participant.
    But in this case, when user B approves, it goes to onTaskAssigned block and i am able to make external web service also but mean time, it has been assigned to User C which i do not want.
    I want Human task flow to wait for the webservice response then only assign it to next participant.
    Please help, is there any option to do it.
    Regards,
    Sunil

    Hi Sunil
    Have you tried using WebServices Adapter. The usecase seems pretty straight forward. You have a WebService that has some code and some Operations to update some Database. First thing, I hope you have methods/Operations defined with request and response xsd for each operation.
    Now you define the main master payload, that should have all elements specific to your process and also few elements to store the output coming from each operation. Because response of each operation may need to go to other Task and get saved in the Payload also.
    You have like 3 Tasks. To complicate, I will assume that each Task can either Approve or Reject. And last 2 Tasks gets data from payload, previous task and also output from the WebService Operation (method).
    Task A -> Xor Gateway (Approve/Reject) -> If Approve -> Call WebServices Adapter -> Task B -> Xor Gateway(...) -> ......
    At each intersection, you can map the attributes for incoming and outgoing. Based on WebServices output also, you can have Another XOR Gateway and decide to send to Task B or do something else. So combinations of outputs of each service (task or webservice adapter) and XOR gateways, you can have a decent control on the overall flow.
    Note: I am hoping the webservices is Synchronous where you get the response immediately.
    Let me know if I am missing something.
    Thanks

  • Human Task Bulk API calls from ADF Entity Object

    Dear all,
    Jdev: 11.1.1.7.1
    We have a requirement where in human task APIs need to be invoked on status changes of an ADF Entity (EO). We presently achieve this in the afterCommit() method and all is well.
    But we are looking to leverage the Human Task bulk update APIs and am wondering how to do that.
    The EO does support a batch mode - Is there a batch mode API that we can override to place the bulk update API call?
    Thanks

    in version 11.1.1.6 getInputStream() and getContent() do not work, this is know bug you can find in the oracle support at
    https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/ui/km/SearchDocDisplay.jspx?_afrLoop=175895926830291&type=DOCUMENT&id=1451100.1&displayIndex=8&_afrWindowMode=0&_adf.ctrl-state=tlzphlagm_69
    there you can find a .zip file with a full example code.
    Actually Oracle does not consider it a bug:
    "This issue was reviewed by Engineering in Bug 13873092 and is not considered a bug. There is a workaround to retrieve task contents through 'WFTaskUpdate' Servlet as described in the attached Sample project."
    but in my opinion it is a very big bug endeed, and it drove me mad for days! :(
    Anyway here is a snippet with the workaroud in case you do not have access to the oracle support site:
    if att is you attachment and wfContext is your workflow context set somewhere
    AttachmentType att;
    IWorkflowContext wfContext;
    instead of doing this
    InputStream inputStream = att.getInputStream();
    do this
    String contextId = wfContext.getToken();
    String attachmentURL = WFUtils.getTaskUpdateURL(att.getTaskId(), contextId, "" + att.getVersion(),att.getName(),
    Constants.WFTASK_QUERY_ATTACHMENT_BUTTON_KEY_NAME);
    if ( attachmentURL == null ) {
    System.out.println("Unable to generate URL to get attachmentcontent");
    try {
    URL url = new URL(attachmentURL);
    URLConnection conn = url.openConnection();
    InputStream inputStream = conn.getInputStream();
    } catch ( Exception e ) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    hope this helps

  • Filter database lookup based on human task (BPM 11g)

    Using BPM/SOA 11g PS3
    I have a business case where a field is pulling data from an external table and the user would like to filter the return based on the current step in the flow. For example:
    Database would return: A, B, C, D, E, F
    Human task 1 should show: A, B, C
    Human task 2: A, B, E, F
    Human task 3: C, D, E
    Human task 4: D, E, F
    Human task 5: E, F
    The BA would also like the ability to change this (if possible) without us having to redeploy. If I can avoid it, I don't want to hardcode these into the JSPX.
    Thoughts on how best to implement something like this?

    I was looking into using a business rule and using a decision table. I thought first, could I put the business rule in my task ADF...but then how do I know what task I am on, how do I pull that into my decision table?

  • How to take human task values and store them in DB table

    Hi, I have a workflow and when I assign the task to someone I want to store some info in a database table that I created.
    I have checked the box allow task and routing customization in bpel call backs.
    And under the on Assign message, I put an assign bpel construct and an invoke.
    in the assign construct I am trying to copy some of the elements from my humantasks_globalvariables to certain columns in my database table.
    I have found out you can't copy them directly because the humantasks_globalvariables are of type string and my database columns are anonymous. So I tried using parseEscapedXML(), when I do this I get the error that
    oracle.fabric.common.xml.xpath.XPathFunctionException: parseXML() expects the argument to be either a string or an XML element.
    The humantasks_globalvariable I am using says it's of type string but it gives me this error.
    I am obviously doing something wrong. If anybody know how to take values from a human task and store them in a database table any help would be greatly appreciated.

    In the actual database the column types are varchar2. But when I drag an invoke from the bpel constructs I associate it with by DBadapter partner link and click the button automatically create input variables. It creates an xsd and this is what one of the elements looks like.
    <xs:element name="anyvalue">
        <xs:simpleType>
            <xs:restriction base="xs:string">
                 <xs:maxLength value="20"/>
            </xs:restriction>
        </xs:simpleType>
    </xs:element>When I do an assign and try to assign the values from the humantasks_globalvariables xsd there types look like this.
    task:title string
    and the input variable I automatically generated look like this.
    ns7:anyvalue <anonymous>

  • Human Task form data needs to be refreshed in case of abrupt shutdown.

    Hi Everyone,
    I've got an interesting challenge in my BPM process and was hoping for some guidance.
    I'm using the 11g SOA suite. A BPM process within my application is designed such
    1. A start node passes a String to a service task
    2.The service task makes a call to a webservice operation and passes a payload to a human task
    3. The human task has an ADF form built on it and a user can add data to this form in addition to the payload it recd in step 2. When the human task is updated, we have partial submits that invoke webservices to update this data in the database.
    Now here's the challenge : If the form is abruptly closed, how do I refresh the data in my form so that it contains the changes made by the user. Do BPM processes auntomatically buffer such data? Or is there way in which I can loop back to the previous step of calling the webservice? All that my form has now is the payload from step 2, I'm resisiting writing a webservice call to refresh data in my form as I can't define what would trigger this webservice call.
    Also, another thought I had was that this is a BPM process made of synchronous calls throughout. How can I rectify this so that data is always up to date in the form? Adapters come to mind, but not too sure how. Any guidance is much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Preethi.

    Hi,
    First thoughts:
    I know you say that the data is not in a database, but I think that's the best place for a list like you're describing. Is there a reason why you don't want it in a database?
    If it can't be in a database, you could put it in a file and read the file to build your list. That should be pretty easy to do. For changes to the list you maintain the file instead of the hardcoding in the application.

    Please help on this issue.It is little bit urgent for us to resolve.
    Thanks in advanced.

    Thanks for reply Ravi.
    The NullPointerException is beacuse of JNDI problem,we resolved that issue.We are able to create the ejb instance but with that instance when we are trying to call ejb method,we are getting the below error in console and the BPM instance is not getting created.
    We are able to create the instance of the EJB Bean.But when we try to call the method of EJB Bean(getTaskDetailsByTaskName(taskName)),the BPM instance is not getting created from BPM workspace.If we comment the code for the method of EJB Bean(getTaskDetailsByTaskName(taskName)) able to create the instance from BPM workspace.When we checked the log file this error,it is
