Database Control always gets "The database status is currently unavailable"
I have two 10.1.0 databases installed on a Windows XP machine. Instance orcl always gets this message. Instance orcltwo does not. If I shut down orcl and then start the web database control page I can select the startup button and it starts up the database and then goes back to the pages that says that the database is not available. The console for that database is running with no errors that I can find. The DBSNMP account is not locked. The SYSMAN account is not locked. There are no errors in any log file that I can find. What am I doing wrong here. The orcltwo instance has no problems at all.
Just to share this experience with everyone. This happened with Grid Control (not sure if it applies to Database Control).
All the targets in EM (except the Agent) showed Down or Unavailable for two weeks. This is how I checked it.
Note that if the Agent is not able to upload Metrics to the repository due to one reason or the other, you will not be able to see the current status.
Assuming your ORACLE_HOME is different from your AGENT_HOME. Check the emagent trace file in the Agent home.
e.g with AGENT home as D:\oracle\agent\
check D:\oracle\agent\sysman\log\emagent.trc to see the latest error message.
Then check the upload directory to see if there are xml files waiting to be uploaded
e.g D:\oracle\agent\sysman\emd\upload
This directory should be clear of .xml file if your metrics loading is working.
From the Agents Monitoring screen in Enterprice Manager (Management System -> Agent), under the Upload session where there is Upload Metric Data button, check for "Last Successful Upload" and "Data Pending Upload " and any error messages. If the Metric upload is not working, the Data Pending uplaod will be more than 0.00MB and the error message link will show you the xml file it is unable to load. Which you will find in my example D:\oracle\agent\sysman\emd\upload
I my example upload file B0002332.xml is the one I found on the error url and when I viewed it in the directory, the structure is different from others. This inability to load it caused all other upload files to be queuing. There was a line in it as
<METRIC_GUID>=3F6739EE03C21CE7CA5E32FD9185</METRIC_GUID>
Looking at the structure of other files, I took a guess (not the best , this is a test EM) and changed it to
<METRIC_GUID>80C23F6739EE03C21CE7CA5E32FD9185</METRIC_GUID>
Then all the two weeks 32MB of xml files loaded automatically within seconds. Logoff EM and Login, everything showed the correct status.
Hope this helps.

Not able to get the database data into the Tree Control
Hi Everybody,
I have to populate the tree control with nodes and items, which is to be populated from the database, and the tree control is dynamic. I mean, there is a toolbar, whenever a pushbutton is clicked, depending on that the tree contents has to be changed.
If anybody had worked with CL_GUI_COLUMN_TREE control to get the data from database, depending upon the pushbutton selected in Toolbar, please paste the seudocode for it.

How to get the Database type from weblogic Db connection
I want to use database version control in my application . that means different database type use different Sql Statement. Such as in weblogic7.0 if I create SqlServer JDBC pool then I will use some special Sqlserver sql Statement . such as some join statement. If I create Oralce JDBC pool then I have to use different Sql statement . because these two database support different Sql statement.
What my question is how to get the database type from the connection.For a normal jdbc driver you can use
Connection.getMetaData()
To get the meta data, in particular the getDatabase...() methods.
That might or might not work.
However, at the very least in the server you have access to the weblogic properties so you can parse the pool property to figure it out. -
The database status is currently unavailable.
Hi,
I have a probem in my production database -
Server - Windows 2003
DB - Oracle 10g
When i try to open Enterprise Manager I get the below error message. This was working fine since last month. But I haven't made any changes to this DB. But I noticed that disk space was very less so I deleted files from recycle bin, temp internet files, cookies and some unwanted documents i copied on the server. No disc space is OK. I have 10 GB free space. Also i am getting DB warning notification because table space is 92 % full so I want to increase it. But I dont know why I am getting this because I had already set to grow table space automatically.
Is there any other way to increase table space other than that in Enter prise manager ?
Message:*
*"The database status is currently unavailable. It is possible that the database is in mount or nomount state...."*
I tried to troubleshoot as per some forums but it doesnt work. If i use command prompt or sql plus to connect to DB it works but only enterprise manager has this issue. Also my Documentum Application connected to this DB works fine.
listner is fine. Also I added server login account in 'log on as batch john' in local policies.
I do not have a back up to restore also.

Regarding the tablespace you may consider extend it yourself and not wait for the autoextend to kick in. This way you avoid future problems if for some strange reason the datafile cannot be extended. Not ignoring this error and being reminded every time the tablespace reaches some limit gives you a feeling of how fast your data grows, which is useful (if the alert comes too often you have to increase with bigger chunks). Autoextend is a feature invented for the lazy dbas out there (imho), a responsible one should not rely on it for production systems with any serious load.
As for the connection problem from EM, I suspect the agent has a connection problem. Have you verified the username and password it is using? Can you connect to the db with the same combination?Yes, I can connect to DB with the same user name and password using command prompt or sql plus. Also my Documentum Application is connecting fine to this oracle DB.
This is the full message.
*"The database status is currently unavailable. It is possible that the database is in mount or nomount state. Click 'Startup' to obtain the current status and open the database. If the database cannot be opened, click 'Perform Recovery' to perform an appropriate recovery operation.":*
Previously I used to get login page but now instead of login page I get this warning. There is also 'Startup' and 'Perform Recovery' button. Even if I use 'startup' button it does not resolve issue. It gives me the bellow message -
SQLException
ORA-28000: the account is locked
Startup/Shutdown:Confirmation
Current Status open
Operation shutdown immediate
Are you sure you want to perform this operation?
I used this to unlock my oracle user yesterday

Edited by: user7640966 on Nov 24, 2011 9:07 AMHussein,
One thing which I noticed now is in the apps Tier the
tnsnames.ora under $TNS_ADMIN
shows entry like this:
PROD=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<appsServerName>)(PORT=1521))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<dbServer>)(PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SID=PROD)
)Actually *(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<appsIPaddress>)(PORT=1521))* this line in the tnsnames.ora is not correct. In fact the appsServerName should be replaced with dbServerName
I deleted the tnsnames.ora and reran autoconfig but it is again recreating the same entry.
Any clue how this can be fixed?
Thanks

Problem in getting the database connection from a connection pool
Hai All,
I am facing a problem in getting the database connection from a connection pool created on weblogic server 8.1.
I am using the Oracle database 8.1.7.
I have configured my connection pool, datasource and JNDI in weblogic.
In my java program i have the following code to retrieve the connection.
import java.sql.*;
import java.util.Hashtable;
import javax.naming.Context;
import javax.naming.InitialContext;
class jdbcshp1 {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Connection connection = null;
try {
Hashtable ht = new Hashtable();
ht.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory"); // Wanna get rid of this.
ht.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL,"t3://localhost:7001"); // wanna get rid of this.
// Get a context for the JNDI look up
Context ctx = new InitialContext(ht);
javax.sql.DataSource ds = (javax.sql.DataSource) ctx.lookup ("myjndi1");
//Create a connection object
connection = ds.getConnection();
The above code is working fine but, the two ht.put statements are creating problem.
The problem is, after converting the application into WAR file it can be deployed
on any machine or different port on same machine. My application fails if its deployed on
weglogicserver which is at different port.
Is there any way that i can get rid of those ht.put statements or any other way to solve the problem.
any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Pooja.Hai All,
Firstly, thanks for ur reply.
Even i have seen some code which uses context constructor with out any parameter and works fine.
i dont understand why its not working for my code.
When i remove those ht.put code and use context constructor with out any parameter, it giving an error.
Context ctx = new InitialContext();
javax.sql.DataSource ds = (javax.sql.DataSource) ctx.lookup ("ocjndi");
connection = ds.getConnection();The error is as follows:
javax.naming.NoInitialContextException: Need to specify class name in environment or system property, or as an applet parameter, or in an application resource file: java.naming.factory.initial
the above error is forcing me to include those code but if the port number is changed the code will not work. Plz let meknow if some setting have to be made.
I appreciate all ur valuable help.
Thanks once again.

Hi,
I am trying to retrieve the database time zone using JDBC. I retrieved the database time using "select sysdate from dual"
When I try to get the time zone from this date it gives me my current timezone as opposed to the database time zone( when the database is in a different timezone ).
This happens with all the drivers I use ( 8i drivers with 8i database and 9i drivers with 9i database )
Any pointers? Am I using the wrong call to get the database time? Is there an Oracle specific call that can be used?
Here is the code ..
String stmtStr = "Select sysdate from dual";
java.sql.PreparedStatement stmt =
conn.prepareStatement( stmtStr );
ResultSet rset = stmt.executeQuery( );
while( rset.next() )
Timestamp ts = rset.getTimestamp( 1 );
System.out.println( "JDBC Database Time :" + ts );
SimpleDateFormat sdf =
new SimpleDateFormat( "dd.MM.yyyy H:mm:ss zzz" );
System.out.println( sdf.format( ts ) );Hi Shailesh,
Basically you need to get the default time zone from the Oracle database embedded JVM and set it as the time zone for the "SimpleDateFormat" class. If you look at the source code for the "SimpleDateFormat" class, you will see that it contains an instance member which is an instance of class "java.util.Calendar". If you look at the source code for "Calendar", you will see that it contains a member which is an instance of a class that extends "java.util.TimeZone". The "TimeZone" in "SimpleDateFormat" comes from the JVM it is running in -- so it is different to the JVM running inside the Oracle database (according to the information you have posted).
Please check the source code to verify the above.
Hope this has helped you.
Good Luck,
Avi. -
Getting the database dump based on constants

The ploblem is i have to get the database dump based on diffrent constants that is if i have taken the dump yesterday and after that some modefaction has bean done tin the database now i want to take the database dump only for the modifyed data but not for the whole data. How can i get the database dump in this mannerUnfortunately, this is not a feature of the Oracle Migration Workbench. It has been designed as a one shot recovery vehicle for the 3rd party database. I understand why you want to do this and it is on our list of enhancements.

My database Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 I installed Oracle Jdeveloper 9i on my computer.
OS:windows2000
My program:
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
con =java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@server:1521:db","developer","12345");
java.sql.Statement stmt=con.createStatement();
java.sql.ResultSet rs=stmt.executeQuery("select task_title from task");
while (rs.next()){
//getInformation
String fjbh=rs.getString("task_title");
If I use this in a common java program(like MyParser.java). It will work well:
D:\JavaApp> java MyParser
but If I put the code into a JSP file . It will not work.I tried several times.
I find that the statment:
java.sql.ResultSet rs=stmt.executeQuery("select task_title from task");
will throw the exception.It seemd that I can connect to the database ,
but can not execute some sql statment.
If I execute this sql statment:
select sysdate from dual ;
or
select task_ID from task ; --task_id is a column with the type NUMBER(10)
it will work.
but if I execute :
select Task_Title from task where task_id=1; --Task_Title is a column with the type VARCHAR(50)
or
select t.task_text.getCLOBVal() task_Text from task t where task_ID=1;
--task_text is a column with the type XMLTYPE, I use this column save XMLFile.
it will not work.
the detail error information as follow:
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [ttcgcshnd-1], [0], [], []It is a database bug (an ORA-0600 almost always is). In this case it is bug# 1725012. You can see the details from MetaLink. There are some patches (by platform) available you should see which may apply to you.

Database status is currently unavailable
hi!
the web-based 10g OEM of our database displays "database status is currently unavailable" upon login as sysdba. but the database instance has already been started/opened. could it be because of the "UNKNOWN" status in my listener? if yes, what are things should i look for to solve this problem? thank you very much.
Services Summary...
Service "bdsprod" has 1 instance(s).
Instance "bdsprod", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...Click on the performance tab, does it prompt for userid/password. If so its the credentials to check the db.
Also check the oracle home that OEM thinks your db is at, sometimes it gets messed up. -
Why do i always get the Japanese version of JRE/JDK?
why do i always get the Japanese version?
i am in tokyo and i just want to get the English version of JRE and JDK. Why is it so difficult, I have been trying for the last 8 hours to find mirrors and other versions and installing all of them only to see they are all in Japanese and I don't know why. I checked my settings, my local language is German or English, i.e. not Japanese, and always I install it it's in Japanese and afterwards I get the compiler messages in Japanese and I don't understand them.
And then... why is it so difficult to make a comment at sun? i have been to ibm's page and google, you just fill out a form send it, it takes 5 secs, here it takes 20 minutes to find where you can ask a question, then some more to fill out the questionaire...
could you pls tell me where to get the US/english version for jre 1.4.2.x and jdk 1.4.2.x?You probally ARE getting the english version. If you are using a japanese version of windows or an english version of windows with the locale setting set to Japan then all of the menus (including the installer) will be displayed in japanese. So it just seems like you are installing a japanese version.
To check your local in windows 2000 go to the control panel and then choose regional options. Then, select the general tab and change your locale to one of the English locales. Also, if you want to keep your locale setting set to Japan there are other workarounds. However, first try this.

Hello, Has anyone setup Code Combination validations in Hyperion Planning? I have done it to a certain extent using forms or security. Is there a way to setup full blown code combination validation like it would be done in GL? Thank you, Nitin
