Database creation using ant/maven/liqubase
Dear ALL:
I am creating the database instance using the ant/maven scripts and following are the things I tried but some how it is not creating the database.
I have installed the 64bit oracle 11gR2 on windows 7 and configured the default database (ORCL). after installation I opened up the command prompt and tried sqlplus and it get connected and I can see the tables. However when I tries to do it using the build script it fails. Following are few things I tried out.
I plan to created 'orcl as the database with sid=orclusing the ant command 'ant -Denv=dev clean create-db -d' but it failed saying orcl is already running and you need to shut down it and I think it is expected because I am creating the database named orcl which is already created. Then I changed database name to dms and sid=dms then it throws error that you cant connect to the server with following error.

Database creation using backups files
Hi,
I would like to create a test database from backup of my production database.
I am new to this task.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
in production server
1.Login as sysdba in the and issue
"alter database backup controlfile to trace" command
in test server
2.Create a user oratest
2.Copy all the data files from production server
3.Copy the Oracle home
4.Edit the trace file
i.CREATE CONTROLFILE SET DATABASE "prod" RESETLOGS
in place of
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "test" NORESETLOGS
ii.Remove the recover database and alter database open lines.
iii.Edit the data files with new path in test server.
iv.save as db_create.sql
5.create the new database by executing
i.sqlplus '/as sysdba'
ii.startup nomount
iii.@db_create.sql
iv.alter database open.
What changes I have to do after copying initprod.ora to inittest.ora?
Thanks,Your question is lacking the 4-digit version of the database, and the O/S.
For Oracle 10g and higher, using database control, it would be much more easy to duplicate the database to another server, using rman.
The procedure you describe is incomplete and incorrect and will fail for several reasons.
2.Create a user oratest -- why?
2.Copy all the data files from production server -- obviously the production database needs to be shutdown for this, or all files will be inconsistent
3.Copy the Oracle home -- if you created a new user oratest, and the user on the production server is oracle, this is not going to work, as the user and group info is linked into the Oracle executable. Also the O/S and version must be identical.
If you created a new user, you need to reinstall Oracle, if your O/S version is not identical you need to relink Oracle.
4 i is incorrect
Obviously, in inittest.ora all occurrences of prod need to replaced by test.
But then again: use RMAN and the only command you need is duplicate database, and the production database can stay online.

I cannot get dbca to display on my xp machine.
I installed xming and have xclock running.
Started putty and enabled X11, and this is the result:
echo $DISPLAY
localhost:11.0
When I start running dbca, I basically get no response.
It is running on the linux server, but I get no display (X window)
to work from. My colleague has experienced the exact same
issue.
Thanks for your attention,

Is there a way to create a database using OCI?
Using the Database Configuration Assistant is one way. But I want to create a database while installing my application(using Install Shield). I have seen some installations do that, could somebody throw some light on the topic.
TIA!
regards,
-SatishGo to <http://tahiti.oracle.com>, the Oracle documentation repository, and do a search on "create database". There are a number of pages of the Administrator's Guide devoted to the commands you'd need to issue to create a new database.

Database creation: use machine name instead of ip address.
I am creating a new database using the Database Configuration Assistant. After the install, it tells me that the EM can be approached through http://192.168.198.128:1158/em. However, since the ip-address is dynamic, i'd prefer to refer to the machine name instead of the ip address. During the setup I could not see where to change this.

Rickuser10064100 wrote:
Thanks for your replies, I will try that. Version info: 10.2.0, on a Windows Server 2k3. The server runs in a virtual machine, which is pretty much the root of the problem: it tends to change ip addresses when restarting it. I will now install the loopback adapter and see what happens.
Edited by: user10064100 on 8-dec-2008 7:48Ah, a server on a virtual machine. Why didn't you say that in your initial posting? I would think that would be much different situation than the usual 'changing ip' configuration of placing a sandbox database on a DHCP desktop or laptop machine...
I don't have any experience with VM's, so I'll leave that to those that do. At the least, I'd expect the loopback adapter to not necessarily be your solution. That's for the assumptions that I clearly stated in my first response. If those assumptions don't match your situation (and it is now clear that they don't) then you need consider that before taking any advice based on those assumptions. -
Physical database creation using Grid Control fail
I have tried several times to create a physical standby using Grid Control. Everytime, the job failed at the step "DBClone -> Destination Preparation". The log file indicated the following error message:
PLS-00553: character set name is not recognized.
When I check the spfile, I find that an extra word "PuTTY" was inserted into the spfile as shown in the following spfile, therefore, the instance cannot be started. In addition, everytime when issuing the command "cat spfilermslag.ora", the word "PuTTY" will automatically appear in the command line after the "cat spfilermslag.ora" command.
$ cat spfilermslag.ora
gé ú&PuTTYrmslag.__db_cache_size=150994944
rmslag.__large_pool_size=4194304
rmslag.__shared_pool_size=71303168
*.undo_tablespace='UNDOTBS1'
*.user_dump_dest='/u01/app/oracle/admin/rmslag/udump'
[oracle@wppnode2 dbs]$ PuTTY
What is going on here? How can I fix the problem?
Thanks!You might just have to do it the old fashioned way. At least it will be a good learning experience.

DataSource is getting created without desired JNDI Name using ANT task
Hi,
While referring to http://weblogic-wonders.com/weblogic/2010/07/24/datasource-creation-using-ant-task-wlconfig/ when we try to create a DataSource using ANT Task <taskdef name=”wlconfig” classname=”weblogic.ant.taskdefs.management.WLConfig”/>
We are unable to provide the Desired JNDI Name for our DataSource. It takes the DataSource Name itself as the JNDI Name of the DataSource. If we specify anyother JNDI Name then it doesnt reflect in the AdminConsole. But still the DataSource testing succeeds from the AmdinConsole.
Is there anything Missing in the Ant Script?
Thanks
Jay SenSharmaI think the attribute name should be JNDINames instead of JNDIName, this is also the name I always use in WLST (and is probably also used by wlconfig), for example,
videotheekDataSource = cmo.createJDBCSystemResource('VideotheekDataSource');
jdbcResource = videotheekDataSource.getJDBCResource();
names = ['jdbc/exampleDS'];
dataSourceParams = jdbcResource.getJDBCDataSourceParams();
dataSourceParams.setJNDINames(names);
Good luck and keep up the good work. -
Problem in database fields creation using default class of B1DE Wizard
Hi Experts
In an AddOn I am creating database fields in default class "Project_DB'. It does not give any message weather it creates fields or not. My code for database creation is given below
Namespace FormARE
Public Class FormARE_Db

Public Sub New()
MyBase.New
B1Connections.theAppl.StatusBar.SetText("Please wait. AddOn is updating database", BoMessageTime.bmt_Long, BoStatusBarMessageType.smt_None)
Columns = New B1DbColumn() {New B1DbColumn("OCRD", "BondNo", "Bond No.", BoFieldTypes.db_Alpha, BoFldSubTypes.st_None, 20, New B1WizardBase.B1DbValidValue(-1) {}, -1), New B1DbColumn("OCRD", "BFrDate", "Bond From Date", BoFieldTypes.db_Date, BoFldSubTypes.st_None, 10, New B1WizardBase.B1DbValidValue(-1) {}, -1), New B1DbColumn("OCRD", "BTDate", "Bond To Date", BoFieldTypes.db_Date, BoFldSubTypes.st_None, 10, New B1WizardBase.B1DbValidValue(-1) {}, -1), New B1DbColumn("OINV", "Cntner_no", "Container No.", BoFieldTypes.db_Alpha, BoFldSubTypes.st_None, 20, New B1WizardBase.B1DbValidValue(-1) {}, -1), New B1DbColumn("OINV", "Cntnr_Seal", "Container Seal No.", BoFieldTypes.db_Alpha, BoFldSubTypes.st_None, 20, New B1WizardBase.B1DbValidValue(-1) {}, -1), New B1DbColumn("OINV", "Cust_Seal", "Custom Seal No.", BoFieldTypes.db_Alpha, BoFldSubTypes.st_None, 20, New B1WizardBase.B1DbValidValue(-1) {}, -1), New B1DbColumn("OINV", "ctryOrgn", "Country of Origin", BoFieldTypes.db_Alpha, BoFldSubTypes.st_None, 20, New B1WizardBase.B1DbValidValue(-1) {}, -1)}
GC.Collect()
B1Connections.theAppl.StatusBar.SetText("Successfully updated database", BoMessageTime.bmt_Short, BoStatusBarMessageType.smt_Success)
End Sub
End Class
End Namespace
It does not give first message. and second message come properly and immediately when I start the AddOn. I checked it makes all fields accuratly. But when I open the related form it gives error message "Data Source not found". I checked fields name are same as used in form and database .What can the reason? Should I use a simple function for creation of database fields which will run when a button is pressed? Is it fine to using default class for database fields creation?
Thanks
Best Regards

Procedure I followed :
UNINSTALL ORACLE WRAEHOUSE BUILDER SOFTAWARE.

Can we get database creation script using any packages?

we will get table creation script using dbms_metadata.get_ddl package. just like that is there any way to get database creation script? i know that we can add some lines to controlfile trace to convert it into database creation script. but i would like to know whether it is possible through packages?
thanks in advance.I think there's no package to use it for getting database creation script. But anyway, you can search it in [Oracle Database PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/toc.htm]

But when I checked the listener was up.....
Now what was the problem, I am able to connect and work through sqlplus,
But I didnt got the link of EM and when try to create a new connection in sql developer it is giving error ( Status : failure - Test Failed the Network Adapter could not establish the connection )
Thanks & Regards
Creation of the dbcontrol requires a connection via the listener. When configuring the dbcontrol as part of database creation, it appears that the dbcontrol creation step runs before the dynamic registration of the databsase with the listener is complete. Now that the database itself is completed and enough time (really, just a minute or two) has passed to allow the instance to register, use dbca or emca to create the dbcontrol.
Are you able to get a sqlplus connection via the listener (sqlplus scott/tiger@orcl)? That needs to be the first order of business.
