Database instance for XI

Why does XI need separate database instance. Can I use a existing database to write its schema and data and just make oracle client from XI host to talk to the oracle database. Because I don't need another database to make the XI box bigger. I want to use the existing one where I already have my other schema for enterprise application
Thanks

Hi,
XI is a UNICODE install and SAP does not recommend to use the XI box for any other installs or installing the XI into another Oracle instance. If you DB is already UNICODE it might work as MCOD what I have not seen it so far.
Further the XI is a resource hungry hence I would not put the burden from integration work on online users.
Cheers

  • Using a SQL Server database instance for repository

    Hi,
My customer is using a non-default instance on SQL server as their database and want to place the repository here.  There are no problems creating and connecting to the repository from the Designer.  I simply define the server as "SERVER\INSTANCE" and I can connect OK.
The problem occurs in the Management Console, when I try to create an entry for this new repository.  The Add process returns a Java error, telling me that the connection is being refused.  I have checked, and re-checked, that all of the inputs are correct.  I believe that this has something to do with the fact that the repository is an instance, rather than just the default database instance.
I have tried various differing ways of entering the server and database strings, with no positive result.  I tried entering the following in the Server and Database entry fields:
    SERVER\INSTANCE  with DATABASENAME
    SERVER
    INSTANCE with DATABASENAME
    SERVER/INSTANCE with DATABASENAME
    INSTANCE@SERVER with DATABASENAME
    SERVER.INSTANCE with DATABASENAME
    SERVER with INSTANCE\DATABASENAME
    SERVER with INSTANCE.DATABASENAME
All give an error - some return a "connection refused", some return a "server not found" error.
Any recommendation short of re-installing the database as a default instance would be appreciated.
DI and SQL Server reside on the same server running Windows 2003 Server R2 SE with SP2.  Management Console runs in Apache Tomcat 5.5 on the same box.
    Regards,
    Derek.

    Hi Derek,
The Management Console does not support the \INSTANCE syntax -- the reason is that it uses JDBC to connect to repositories.  When you add a SQL Server repository to the Management Console, note that it is asking you for hostname, port, and database name.  You will need to provide it the port that the instance is running on (e.g. default=1433).  You can get this from the person who administers the SQL Server instance.

  • Cannot install database instance for ABAP version

    Hi
Managed to install the central instance OK but the database instance fails with a message "node c:\Documents\DATA does not exist".
I tried creating the required folder and it then fails saying "node and\DATA does not exist".  It looks to have gotten confused with the words "Documents and Settings".
Tried XP Pro and 2000, same result.
Anybody managed to get it loaded and working?
    Mike

    Hello Mike,
great. Thanks for the points :-). When you succeed to install you should report your sucess here: Important Notice on ABAP SP 640!.

  • Database instance for SCCM 2012 and WSUS on a single primary site server

I am going to install SCCM 2012 and its SQL database on a single physical server. This is going to be a single primary site server. The default SQL instance will be dedicated to SCCM 2012 with no other named instances to be added on the SQL server down
    the road.
During the WSUS server role installation, there is the Database Options page asking for using (1) Windows Internal Database, (2) existing db server on this computer, or (3) an external db server.
Since SCCM 2012 doesn't share db instance with others, how should I handle the WSUS db that's going to be hosted on the same SCCM/SQL physical server? Do I really need to create a separate SQL instance just for the WSUS db?
    Thanks and regards.

Even though you can do it, it is the best practice to have SCCM 2012 and WSUS installed on separate instances.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh692394
When the Configuration Manager and WSUS databases use the same SQL Server and share the same instance of SQL Server, you cannot easily determine the resource usage between the two applications. When you use a different SQL Server instance
for Configuration Manager and WSUS, it is easier to troubleshoot and diagnose resource usage issues that might occur for each application.

  • IDES Installation - Database Instance for MS SQL

    Hello,
I preveously posted this topic twice in the wrong area of the froum. So I just try again with little bit more knowledge. The problems I had (see history below) seem to be a run time problem (it only took really long). Now it ended up with the error that the startsap.exe could not be started (returncode -1). What could be the reason for that <b>?</b>
Actually I think I have also a hardware problem. I was not able to find information about the needed HD space. In one SAP note I read that for the IDES on MS SQL 60 GB are needed. I do also have a problem with the topic database file configuration! How this is done in general and what about the files sizes <b>?</b>
Thanks for any help concerning the installation of the database instance.
    BR, Volker
    <u>History:</u>
    I want to install a IDES 2004 R1 / Netweaver 2004.
I am working on WIN 2003 Enterprise Server with a MS SQL DB. The Central Instance installation ended successfully. I get in trouble with the DB Instance installation:
<b>--></b> The data to be filled in the sapinst tool was possible, the installation stops at the process step: MS SQL Database Layout. In the log the last Phase is "Setting up Server Phase" and the last two informations after are "Creating Directory", one for data and one for the log. In the explorer they are to see. In the data directory is even a file *.mdf.
Anybody who could tell me what I have to do for the installation ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Volker
One more note: The information in the footer line of the Installation Wizard says: "Creating database <DB> / this can take a while ...
The while is a never ending while ...

    Hei guys,
the reason why the installation did not continue was the fact that the dispatch+work process didn't started correct. Why it finally did after many reasons I couldn't find out 100% - searching in the SAP notes helped to only try a restart.
So after this I continued (new start of sapinst with "Continue installation") was leading to a success. This was a difficult birth.
Still the question about the needed database space is in my head ! ?? !

  • How to use an existing remote database instance?

    Hi,
is it possible to use an existing remote database instance for installation of Solution Manager?
Our dba has setup an empty database instance on a hpux oracle cluster for me and I don´t know how to tell the SAPinst during the installation of the distributed system that it should use this existing database.
Or is it mandatory to run the installation on the host where the database should resides and then create a new instance?
Thanks in advance for any hints!
    Christian

We currently don't support DataControls based on the ADF BC technology. We will consider such support if there is a strong interest in that use case.
Independent of the IDE's you use, there are ways to expose services based on ADF BC that can then be consumed by the view layer. A Google search will point you to some of the approaches.

  • Can i create more than one instance for single database?

    HI
anybody can tell me how to create more than one instance for single database(without using RAC)?
    thanks
    Kalanidhi

    Anandji,
I sometimes think differently. I also think like what this person is asking..(although I have installed and administering 5 different RAC databases)
The main doubt of mine is that we create multiple instances accessing the same storage area.
Anyway the controlfiles of all instances will have the same information except the instance_names and instance id's.
Hence I always think , why can't it be possible to to create another instance in the same system and point it to a controlfile which is copied from the other instance.
Why can't the same files be shared between the two instances in a same system ?
I know I am thinking a little bit confusing...
Anyway I need to test that also...
    Mahesh.

  • Creating the Windows Service for the Database Instance

Hello, I am using the PeopleTools 8.52 Installation for Oracle documentation and was in Task 6A-2: Creating the Windows Service for the Database Instance.
    After I type in
oradim -new -sid ORCL -intpwd manager -startmode auto -pfile C:\Oracle\database\initORCL.ora
    I had encountered these errors:
OPW-00005: File with same name exists - please delete or rename
    DIM-00019: create service error
O/S-Error: (OS 1073) The specified service already exists.
Please advise.... Thank you in advance!

Hi, thank you for your reply!
After I typed oradim -delete -sid ORCL, it shows this:
Unable to stop service, OS Error = 1062
    Instance deleted.
    Then, I:
    Set ORACLE_SID=ORCL
oradim -new -sid ORCL -intpwd manager -startmode auto -pfile C:\Oracle\database\initORCL.ora
    Then, it shows:
OPW-00005: Files with same name exists - please delete or rename
    Instance created.
Does it mean no error already and I can proceed?

If I login to machine as a Guest user or I am not a owner of Oracle software then in the both cases I couldn't able to create a new database instance. Am I right?

  • SQL database login for 'SharePoint_Config_2010' on instance 'DB server' failed. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.

we formatted Database server and restored all the databases from the backup. but the sharepoint site is giving below error when i access the home page.
we have 3 application servers in that two are working fine,  but only one server getting the below error.
SQL database login for 'SharePoint_Config_2010' on instance 'db server' failed. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
    Login failed for user 'domain\user'.
could you help what is the issue?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to access sharepoint site with one application server.
It was due to the MOM/SCOM Agent that has a SharePoint management pack installed, the agents Windows Service runs as ‘Local System’ and thus causes this.
The workaround is to either kill the SCOM agent service, or set it to run as a dedicated service account.
In addtion, I recommend to add the logon account of the SharePoint Timer service as a user of the SharePoint_Config database. Give role membership to the account db_owner.
You also need to add the SharePoint accounts back into sql server.
