How to use an existing remote database instance?

Hi,
is it possible to use an existing remote database instance for installation of Solution Manager?
Our dba has setup an empty database instance on a hpux oracle cluster for me and I don´t know how to tell the SAPinst during the installation of the distributed system that it should use this existing database.
Or is it mandatory to run the installation on the host where the database should resides and then create a new instance?

We currently don't support DataControls based on the ADF BC technology. We will consider such support if there is a strong interest in that use case.
Independent of the IDE's you use, there are ways to expose services based on ADF BC that can then be consumed by the view layer. A Google search will point you to some of the approaches.

Well I guess if you wish to retain that architecture, i.e. HTMLDB on one machine and your data on another, you will have to establish database links to access the data. Oracle documentation will describe how to achieve that.

If the mdb file in LAN, Just map the network drive.[Windows Explorer/Tools/Map Network Drive] in your system from which we need to access the remote mdb. Then go to ODBC Data Source Admin.. and create a new data source[Microsoft Access Driver] . After clicking the Select button, you will find a Network Drive will be visible on your Drives drop down. Select the map Drive, If not visible then just click the Network button there and map the network path where the mdb files reside. And use the JdbdOdbcDriver class to connect from java.

How to add an existing content database to new Site collection

Hi All,
Can anyone help to figure out how can I add existing content database to a new site collection in SharePoint 2013 foundation.
We have more than 40 site collections under one web application, and only one site collection is returning 404 error. When checked in the central admin to view all site collections, the details on the right side of the site is not visible, and unable
to delete it. The database is not corrupt, as I tried to add the same content database to a new web application, and it works perfectly in a new web app.
As we couldn't find any solution, the only option we thought of was to blow the site collection and create a new one and add the exisiting database, but I am unaware as to how can I add existing database to new create site collection. Can anyone help
me with this please?

It's working....
The current database was corrupt I guess, (not sure though). Took old backup file and tested to see if it's working. After the test was successful...
Removed the current database in CA
Delete the current database in SQL server
Restored the working backup file in SQL server
Added the content db in CA
That's it... the site collection is working now...

You'll need to have access to some sort of database account to use the tool. If you just loaded the tool onto a machine, Disco is not going to be useful - you need to create an end user layer, and business areas.

Dw cs5 with existing wordpress site hosted on yahoo need help connecting to existing remote database

I am having trouble establishing a database connection. I can connect with test databases but am having trouble using dreamweaver wtih my existing wordpress website. Am I able to use dreamweaver to edit and live view my changes before uploading the changed files to my live site? Am I able to access my existing wordpress database with dreaweaver? I have imported it to my testing server/database but still seem to be having trouble establishing a connection with it (think maybe my folder hierarchy might be off).

"nwm" is the name of the folder that I have copied all of my site files to and the folder I have dreamweaver pointing to. "wp" is what I have all of the wordpress files in (the ones I copied from my yahoo server - including all my current theme files etc.)
I am trying to put the info into the mysql connection dialog box:
Connection Name: Testing (i am assuming this name is for my benefit only and doesn't actually matter)

did some google seaches of the error. Tried turning off the firewall, and the advance tab allow mysql incoming (there were 2 one was allow one was not allow. I changed both to allow)
Cant really find anything on yahoo to help me out. Looked in phpmyadmin database named wp: wp_users to get the username and password (which due to previous look for help - I think the password was encrypted cuz it looked like a bunch of mumbo jumbo and am fairly certain I know the correct password).

I spent $50 on live chat last night trying to resolve the issue only to find out at the end that the guy really didn't understand my problem and doesn't have dreamweaver. I am also trying to work my way thru the learning php, mysql, javascript book by o'reily media by robin nixon (as fun as reading a math text book) can't get thru it since I can't relate any of it to my current sites/needs

Am I expecting the impossible?

If wordpress controls it's own connection why am I unable to use the live view. I have synced the remote site to my local computer so all the files should be just as they are online with the exception of the DB which contains most of the content.
I have done all of those steps. I have even exported the database from inside internet phpmyadmin and imported into computer phpmyadmin. When I hit live view I get one of couple of errors.
1. "One is that the dynamic related files could not be displayed due to an internal server error"
At some point I was able to view some sample files inside dreamweaver. But I would like to be able to view my real site files. I was able to "connect" to the local databases (not the copy of my real one - I think that maybe that was because it is somehow nested inside another db an am going try to reimport to new location). And then I changed the host/username/password trying to deal with the internal server error. Now instead I get the cannot connect to the database Error 2016 or whatever from the origianl post. Also, I am using yahoo if that matters and all I can find about what their server name is: mysql - is that correct?
I have been thru this so many times with so many different tutorials I am losing track of what is what.
2. Can I access my remote database within dreamweaver? I do not want to create dummy files (seems to be a waste of time). And while if it had worked exporting/importing a duplicate on to my computer would have satisfied me for a little while it also seems some what counter productive. Since every post and page is different if I were doing a daily updates etc how would I be able to change the formating or design of them if I can't access the remote files. Would I re- import everytime I want to work on it to get current database?
I am trying to be clear. I listed all the specs I could think as listed in your "how to get help fast post" (yes I read that at least twice too) of all of the steps and possible reasons for my problems. I also thought that the forum was on a seperate site so I didn't think it would count as a duplicate. I am frustrated to tears and am feeling incredibly stupid that after all this time and all these tutorials yes you are right I obviously am not understanding what is going on which is why I am on this forum.

Oh yeah - if you want to create a custom XE instance (different SID, different tablespace sizes, more/less PL/SQL stuff installed, hack standard), make a copy of your XE db creation script (in your XE's +$ORACLE_HOME/bin+ and called createdb.sh ) and modify that for your needs.
PS. even with a different SID, only a single XE instance can be run at a time - you can however have 2 different ones defined and then use one at a time (e.g. testing international settings, init param differences, etc.)

IaaS SQL/VM - how to use an existing SQL VM

I have a Cloud Service with a Window Web VM and SQL VM. They both are on the same Vnet. Now I want to add a DB using the existing SQL VM. But this VM does not show up of the Server drop down menu in "Specify Database setting"
wizard. What am I missing here?
If I let the DB Wizard add a new server (leveraging PaaS offer for SQL DB), how can I make sure that this new server shows up on my Vnet (the same one where I have Web VM on)? I assume that these VMs needs to be on the same Vnet to be able to communicate
with each other.

It seems that you had mix up Windows Azure SQL database with SQL Server on Azure VM. When you create a SQL Server virtual machine in Azure, it similar to on-premises SQL Server installed on VM. You can create and manage databases with SSMS.
If you create a SQL database on Management Portal, the SQL database server host a VM of the datacenter, you cannot using the existing SQL Server VM which your created yourself.
When connect to the SQL database from your azure VM which hosted on Cloud Service, there is no need to create a virtual network, just configure the firewall rule of the SQL database server to allow connection from Windows
Azure Serivces.

Hi our db running on 10g. How to handle DDL's on the remote database? My requirement is as a object migration, how to migrate object/s from database A to database B through user. Say i have table call my_table in database A I want to create/replace this table on database B as a database user. Is there a way can be done? Database link or streams or any other method?

You have many options to do this, just to name a few
use COPY command of SQLPLUS
SQL> copy from scott/tiger@DB_A
to scott/tiger@DB_B
create new_emp using select * from emp;create database link to database A in database B, run this from database B
create new_emp as select * from emp@dblinkDB_A;or export/import
etc.

How to use excel as a database

Hello,
due to fact that excel's datasheet does not work anymore when I use an ODBC connexion, I would like to known if anyone has an idea so as to use ADO or OLEDB in order to use excel as a database.
I found an OLEDB Connector in xMII 11.5 but I don't know how to work with it. Where am I supposed to set up in windows?
If also other solutions exist, I would be glad to learn it!

In all seriousness, you should avoid using Excel in this mode. It was not designed for multiuser access and will cause you nothing but problems.
If you absolutely MUST do this, I recommend the following:
1) Use the UDS 4.0 OLEDB connector to connect to the Excel spreadsheet
2) Create a scheduled BLS transaction that reads the contents of the Excel spreadsheet and either a) writes the resultant XML to some persistent storage or b) write the data to a database table that matches the structure of the Excel sheet
3) Design any other application access to use this "cached" version of the data
This will minimize the conflicts accessing the Excel file.
You could also provide a clickable link on a web page to "update the cache" (e.g. run the BLS transaction), if a user updated the Excel file and wants those changes to be immediately visible.
In fact, you could quite easily add this link as a button in the Excel workbook itself, which would run the appropriate URL whenever the button was pressed.

How to use an existing data model using Business Components in OEPE

I am a beginner in ADF. I am working on a project with an existing data model that uses Business Components (EO, VO and AM). I know that OEPE does not handle the creation of BC, so if I want to modify them, I will have to do that in JDev. That's fine.
OEPE can create pages with drag and drop like in JDev. In my eclipse ADF projects, I would like to use the existing BC, to be able to use the bindings with ADF Faces. So far I have nothing in the Data Controls tab.
How to import the BC into the Data Controls tab?

How to use a non-Oracle database?

Oracle Lite is used as the database per default. Technical
notes describe how to use Oracle 9i. I'm more interested in using more light-weight RDBMSes like HSQLDB for example. It is been said that Oracle BPEL supports Oracle, Oracle Lite, DB2, SQL Server and Pointbase. Now how to configure Oracle BPEL to use each of the non-Oracle datbases listed above?

I've managed to setup the PM to use Pointbase rather than the default Oracle Lite. Along the way, several questions came up:
1. Since the directory system\database\scripts already provides DDL scripts for Pointbase, creating the tables of a Pointbase database was easy. However, I wonder why you don't support HSQL. After all, OC4J supports HSQL data sources (see database-schemas\hypersonic.xml). Are there any features required by Oracle BPEL that are not provided by HSQL? If not, can we just use the Pointbase DDL scripts for HSQL?
2. Editing the data-sources.xml file also wasn't a big deal although templates for Pointbase were missing. BTW, my XML editor reports the data-sources.xml file to be invalid: "Document cannot be stand-alone because default-value attribute 'connection-retry-interval' is not explicitly assigned.
3. The changes in StartOraBPEL.bat were:
- Comment out running kill_olite.bat and start_olite.bat
- Start the Pointbase server (rather than Oracle Lite)
4. The needed changes in obsetenv.bat were not that obvious: It was required to add the Pointbase libs to the BOOT_LIB classpath. Otherwise the Pointbase driver cannot be loaded. To be on the safe side, I've also added the Pointbase libs to the MY_CLASSPATH classpath but I'm not sure if that is really required. Is it?
5. Finally, it would be good if shutting down the Pointbase server could be done in a similar fashion as that is configured for Oracle Lite. Apparently, some sort of hooking is used. Now how to setup a shutdown hook for a Pointbase server?

Using a SQL Server database instance for repository

Hi,
My customer is using a non-default instance on SQL server as their database and want to place the repository here. There are no problems creating and connecting to the repository from the Designer. I simply define the server as "SERVER\INSTANCE" and I can connect OK.
The problem occurs in the Management Console, when I try to create an entry for this new repository. The Add process returns a Java error, telling me that the connection is being refused. I have checked, and re-checked, that all of the inputs are correct. I believe that this has something to do with the fact that the repository is an instance, rather than just the default database instance.
I have tried various differing ways of entering the server and database strings, with no positive result. I tried entering the following in the Server and Database entry fields:
SERVER\INSTANCE with DATABASENAME
SERVER
INSTANCE with DATABASENAME
SERVER/INSTANCE with DATABASENAME
INSTANCE@SERVER with DATABASENAME
SERVER.INSTANCE with DATABASENAME
SERVER with INSTANCE\DATABASENAME
SERVER with INSTANCE.DATABASENAME
All give an error - some return a "connection refused", some return a "server not found" error.
Any recommendation short of re-installing the database as a default instance would be appreciated.
DI and SQL Server reside on the same server running Windows 2003 Server R2 SE with SP2. Management Console runs in Apache Tomcat 5.5 on the same box.

Hi Derek,
The Management Console does not support the \INSTANCE syntax -- the reason is that it uses JDBC to connect to repositories. When you add a SQL Server repository to the Management Console, note that it is asking you for hostname, port, and database name. You will need to provide it the port that the instance is running on (e.g. default=1433). You can get this from the person who administers the SQL Server instance.
