EM Event: Warning: Database Instance - Agent Down
Hello,
while upgrading plugins for the OMS 12 Bundle Patch and applying the BP on the agents, I get a lot of mails with the above subject - namely, one mail by every database instance and every listener running on the host.
Content of the mail is as follows:
Host=<hostname>
Target type=Database Instance
Target name=<database name>
Categories=Availability
Message=Agent Down
Severity=Warning
Availability status=Agent Down
Rule Name=Database Availability and Critical States,Target Availability Event Rule
Rule Owner=SYSMAN
Blackout on the host leads to the OMS not being able to do the upgrades - obviously a blacked-out agent is not able to do that. What puzzles me that in the Rule mentioned in the mail, incidents should only be created for the target type being down (i.e. for database instance when database is down, and so on) as one would expect.
I would rather not blackout all targets on a host EXCEPT the agent as this gets old with our number of hosts and dbs, does anyone know which rule is responsible for the mails and how they could be suppressed temporarily in an efficient way?I think Jay was referring to selecting availability events by severity. So in the rule create/edit "Select Events" step you can do the following:
1. select (event) Type= Target Availability
2. Leave the radio button in the sub-section at "All events of type Target Availability"
3. select the check box next to "Severity" right below the Type field
4. When a subsequent drop down shows up for severity - select "Fatal"
5. Optionally, check the box next to "Target type" and choose "Database Instance" if your target set includes other targets - this step should not be needed.
6. Everything else should remain the same.
Essentially, the "target down" events come with "Fatal" severity and these "agent down" events come with a "Critical" severity. So this is a way to avoid getting the agent down notifications on databases (or any other targets) while getting the genuine target down notifications. Hope this helps. -
Database instance is down after machine reboots
Hi,
I have oracle 10gR2 on my machine.
It is a windows XP machine.
After every time the machine is restarted the database service and listener are down.
They need to be started manually each time.
How to avoid this ?
Thanks. After every time the machine is restarted the database service and listener are down.Go to running services Run-->services.msc-----in services make the two services to start automatically by right clicking the services of database and listener--click on properties and then set automatic. That is all for listener but for database you will have to edit the SID by ORADIM utility to start it autmatically. Type
C:/>ORADIM help=y --You will get to option to edit the sid and start it automatically.

How send mail when oracle instance went down
Hi All,
Please help me to configure email set in oracle standard edition so that it sends email whenever database /instance went down.
Thanks in advance

Many Thanks,
Need a small clarification in the normal scenario it works, if shutdown the server without shutdown the database we not receiving the alert.
is there any way i can configure alert mail for the instance shutdown (database is up and oracle instance is down) due to some unexpected reason.
Thanks
sankar"database is up and oracle instance is down"
A very interesting concept. Given that a database is just the collection of files that are kept transactionally consistent, and the instance is the memory and processes that manage those files, could you explain what is meant by "database is up and oracle instance is down". If the instance is up it may (or may not, depending on its state) have the database (files) open. If the instance is not up, then the database is ??? -
DB13 Job fail with error :Database instance is shut down
Hi All,
Recently we upgraded our Redhat Linux, Database from 9i to 10.2.0.4 and SAP Kernel 640 to patch 347.
Now my system is working fine but in DB13 jobs I am getting error:

it is looking to me that somewhere still Oracle path is mentioned as of 9i version.
I checked environment variables, Default profile, initSID.sap but not find any issue, checked on google it says check tnsnames.ora, I checked that file but there is no such parameter for Oracle home.
Please suggest to resolve the issue.

BR0801I BRCONNECT 6.40 (52)
Hi,
allthough I am not quite sure, because 9i is sooo old and 10.2 is even near out of maintanance,
Kernel 6.40 is linked against a version 9 client thus forcing sidadm to work with a 9i environment.
brtools 6.40 working as orasid (environment 10g)
and failing as sidadm (in the 6.40 plain kernel environment (oracle 9i))
is perfectly normal as far as I remember.
I think there was a section in the version 10 upg-guide whichg says to switch brtools to version 7.0, even if you use a 6.40 kernel exactly for this reason. This is, because version 7.0 brtools are hardlinked against the instantclient 10.
So these work even as sidadm with an environment set to a version 9 client.
I can not verify exactly, any more, cause all our 6.40 systems have recently gone to oracle version 11
requireing the switch to the 6.40 EX2 kernel and brtools 7.20.
Try brtools 7.00 on current patchlevel.

I have tweaked the shared memory max as suggested in Oracle Manual / SAP Installation Guide, to no avail.
The listener is up already.
When I logged in as user ORA<SID>, and go to svrmgrl > startup nomount pfile=init.ora, it can startup without hassle.
Although the Product is not supported in PAM, we have another machine running smoothly for years with this product combination, so it's not the product compatibility issues.
But when using R3SETUP -f DATABASE.R3S, the phase stopped with the log pasted above.
Any ideas, gurus?
Thanks for help.
Best Regards,Mr. Markus, there's no file on saptrace/usertrace.
To be sure, here's what I've done:
1. Run oracle listener.
2. Check connection with svrmgrl > connect internal (connected).

Ent. Manager is not able to connect to the database instance. ORA-12541
Hi
I have installed and configured Oracle 10.2.0.1 on a Microsoft Cluster with Windows 2003 Server.
Database instance and listener are running OK on both cluster nodes.
On one of the nodes (pwmssrv1) I configured Enterprise Manager to monitor and control the database.
At the beginning it worked fine, but after making a reboot on this server the Enterprise Manager cannot see the database instance and listener anymore.
I already recreated/reinstalled EM and the problem persists.
When I try to access the Oracle EM I get the errors (it do not show the login page):

I also look into the logs and it shows a few errors (emoms.log):

Forms are not opening if one of the 2-node 11gR2 DB instance is down
recently we have upgraded database from 2-node 10gR2 RAC to 2-node 11gR2 instance.
But, if one of the instance is down, the forms are not picking up the 2nd node and forms are not opening.
Can someone help me to fix this issue as its PROD.Hi,
Please send the output of below command, run this in your application node.
"tnsping MMAPPS_BALANCE"
Your SID_BALANCE TNS-ENTRY should look like below on the application server. Below is just for example of 3 node rac. You should not edit tnsnames.ora file manually, if you configure your context file properly, autoconfig will generate properly.

Unable to connect to the database instance using Enterprise Manager.
I just install Oracle 10gr2 in my computer and after successful installation created a database instance which also install successfully. I then configure the listener using Net Manager and then start the database instance, the listener and dbconsole, everything seems to work fine and checking the status of this services from the command prompt indicates everything started successfully. But when I try to use Enterprise Manager I was directed to the Database Down Page with a message unable to connect to database instance. I try to use startup and perform recovery but every time I log-in to the database an error message comes out:
SQLEXCEPTION
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified.
It seems for Enterprise Manager to connect to the database it needs to access this NLS(National Language Support) data files or specify an environment variable to point to this data files. I am just new to Oracle and I am having difficulty solving this particular problem. Where is this data files located and how do I configure Enterprise Manager to access this NLS data Files?
Any help however small will be highly appreciated. Are you able to connect to the database via SQLPlus?
What Operating System are you using?
Assuming Windows, can you RUN regedit to open Windows Registry and check the value or NLS_LANG when you select
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\KEY_<your_oracle_home>
Examples of vaules you may find:
1. ENGLISH_UNITED KINGDOM.WE8MSWIN1252
2. AMERICAN_AMERICA.US7ASCII
3. AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
4. FRENCH_FRANCE.WE8MSWIN1252
5. GERMAN_GERMANY.WE8MSWIN1252
If you are not able to connect to SQLPlus, from the command prompt try setting one of the above:
e.g.
D:\>set NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
D:\>sqlplus /nolog
SQL>connect sysman/password -
Database/Instance VS Schema
Want to use Oracle DB as the database for virtue hosting for mutiple web applications.
Option One: Create one database (or Instance) with multiple shema(s), with each Schema for a web application to access.
Option Two: Each web application has its own database (or Instance)
The Database will be located in the same machine. In general which option is more feasible in terms of maintenance and speed?
Thanks.
Scott
It appears to me the second option is better, but the memory may become an issue, for so many database instance will be loaded to the RAM. The first option may save some memory. But each shema will be hit by many users (such as hundreds). I wonder if use of the schema is feasible. In case of downtime of database all your web application are having downtime and each application are on different database in that case only respective application would be down. so, it would be better to keep each webapplication on different database as per the maintenance perspective.
If you are expecting hit from "hundreds" users then better invest more memory. at least 500 mb to 1GB SGA per DB. -
Connect to Gateway Failed during database instance installation
Hi All,
I install Netweaver 2004 (6.4) ABAP stack.
I've finished the installation of oracle 10.2 and central instance. During the installation of database instance, an error happens when "starting RFC jobs".
In the logviewer:

About my installation environment:
Windows XP
I've enlarged the page file size before installation.
I've looked up the info from Internet, so I've checked the following:
Under \system32\driver\etc\hosts
10.10.10.10 <domainname> <hostname> is configued as a loopback address (I was prompted to use loopback adapter when installing Oracle, because my network adapter uses DHCP)
Under \system32\driver\etc\services
sapgw00 3300/tcp # SAP System Gateway Central Instance Port
sapgw00s 4800/tcp # SAP System Gateway Security Port
I can ping 10.10.10.10 (get response)
(Any possibility that the installation user can not access 10.10.10.10:3300 ??, I don't know.)
However, I can't logged on the system, because in the MMC, "disp+work.exe" turns yellow(Dialog Queue standstill) and then becomes gray.
Some experts in some forums have commented that a long hostname (>8 characters) might be the problem. Is it true?
(I've not installed the standalone gateway instance yet. ) When do I need to install the gateway instance? Now, I installed as follows: DB software->Central Instance->DB instance.
Thanks in advance.
DennisHi,
I had a similar error, when installing SAP BW 3.1. on windows 2000 advanced server, oracle 9.2.0.6.
FRF-00007 Unable to open RFC connection.
ERROR 2006-12-04 07:03:21
FRF-00063 RFC logon failed with message: Failed
However this holds good for NW 2004 also.
To resolve this error you will need to upgrade your SAP kernel level.
1) Download the kernel. i.e. sapdbexe.sar and sapexe.sar.
2) uncar the files sapdbexe.sar and sapexe.sar using the sapcar.exe
On dos prompt go to the particular directory where u have downloaded the above sar files using "cd" command.
3) To Uncar the files use this command on dos prompt
SAPCAR -xvf <your-SAR-file> to uncar the files.
4) shut down sap using the MMC.
then in windows services.msc stop saposcol ,stop oracle service sapserviceSID and and the sapSID_##
5) Now just copy the new kernel files you have uncared above into the /usr/sap/SID/exe/run/ directory of your system
6) Start the services you stopped and start SAP using the MMC.
Now you should be able to logon. Sometimes the MMC shows the yellow status due to missing workprocess status. However the system should work fine.
