  • Database in Suspect Mode in SQL Server 2000 Log Shipping Environment

    Hi All
We have movement of SQL Server 2000 at physical level. We have disable jobs and stop Agent and SQL Server services.
After moved the server we have started the server and then start SQL Server 2000 services.
All of databases in SUSPECT mode. Files are in correct folders as were before shutdown the server
What shall I do e.g. why databases come up in SUSPECT mode? what to check and how to get database live?
    Pls help it is critical...
    Thanks in Advance

    Hello,
Did you made sure no transactions like restore logs  were running when you stopped SQL server service or agent .I have seen in SQL 2000 an abrupt stop of SQL Server agent when its doing a process can sometimes force database in suspect mode.
I would like you to get your disk analyzed by vendor ASAP for any fault in disk at first go it seems to me an underlying hardware issue.
Please can you check errorlog and event viewer to find out any possible cause for database going into suspect mode
I always suggest to use Backup and restore method of recovery to get out from suspect database problem. If you dont have then you can move with DBCC Checkdb and various repair options but be sure
DATA LOSS might be possible when you use repair allow data loss and repair_rebuild removes constraints.
    hope this helps

  • Database in suspect mode

i was going through this article about recovering a database in suspect mode :
    http://www.mytechmantra.com/LearnSQLServer/Repair_Suspect_Database_P2.html
in the article the error seems to indicate corruption in the log :
Error: 9003, Severity: 20, State: 9. The log scan number (189624:16:2) passed to log scan in database
'BPO' is not valid. This error may indicate data corruption or that the log file (.ldf) does not match the data file (.mdf
if the corruption is in the log, then is not the logical solution to bypass the recovery process and then truncate the log with no_log option and then bring the database online?
and dbcc checkdb (<db>,repair_allow_data_loss) repairs the data pages or the log pages?
and any other options/ways/articles about bringing a suspect database online?
    appreciate the insights.

datafile corruption : put db in emergency mode / put db in single user mode / dbcc checkdb with REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS/ dbcc checkdb on database
again/put db back in multi user mode.
There is no need to do this. This is totally not required.
    You can
Switching the database to the Simple recovery model
Performing a checkpoint (which should clear the active log as long as nothing else requires the log to be kept active)
Switching back to the Full recovery model
Reestablishing the log backup chain by performing a full or differential backup
Or you can rebuild log as already pointed in my reply.
Or you can restore from known valid backup.
There is no need to move data as well because actually its not related to data.

  • Why MSAccess database shows data but does not show columns and DDL in edit mode in jdeveloper?

    Sir,
    My developer ver is 12.1.3.0.0.
I create a connection to MS Access database, this database shows data as bellow in jdeveloper databases window
But when I open any table in Edit mode like bellow it does not show any columns and DDL and give an error like bellow
Similarly when I try to create view objects on these tables then on data controls the view object also doesn't show any columns like bellow
What could be the reason any help on this issue
Should I use MS Access or not but I want to use ms access for very small databases.
    Regards

If you look into the certification matrix at Oracle JDeveloper and ADF 12c (12.1.3) Supported Systems
You'll see that ms access is not supported.
You can use oracle xe which is free for your project.

  • Database in suspect mode...why does it happen?

I am using SQL 2012 SE with A-P clustering. We had an automatic failover around 3:00AM and the replication publisher database went into suspect mode. I gave it some time to see if it would come back to normal mode all by itself and when it did not I took
the db to emergency mode and then single user mode and did dbcc check and then when there were no errors I tried to bring it to multi user mode and it would still remain in emergency mode.
I tried to do take it offline and bring it online. But it wont go offline as it says database is in replication and cannot be taken offline. So I had to broke replication and take the database offline and brought it back online and then restarted the replication
    from scratch.
I came to know that the LUN went offline and then came back online and that triggered the failover.
But, why did the publisher database go to suspect mode? I told my IT manager that the underlying disk that went offline was hosting the publisher database and since the disk went down and came back it took the database to suspect mode but he would believe it.
Is there a way that we can tell for sure that a specific issue caused the database go to suspect mode? Like any log/eventvwr? I had transaction log backups running like once every 10 mins for publisher database...could that be a reason?
Also are there any specific causes that will take a database into suspect mode?
    Thanks a ton

From my experience  most of the problems because of physical disk failure ... look also into Event Viewer.

  • Mirror Database shows Recovery state in Database mirroring in sql 2012

Hi I am working on DBmirroring and have encountered problem of mirror database showing recovery state.
I tried to resolve issue by removing database mirroring from principal ,removing endpoints from both the nodes and
finally firing alter database db1 set partner off statement also. But when reconfigure dbmirroring on principal it does not allow
start dbmirroring and mirror database db1 comes in to recovery state from restoring stage.
    srm_2010

ok in that case why it is not allowing me to configure db mirroring when I am trying from SSMS.It gives an error.tell me????
    srm_2010
And what is the error ? If while configuring mirroring it fails for some reason you have to make sure the mirror database which has gone in recovery state needs to be brought in restoring state.

  • Recover SQL Server database from SUSPECT mode

    Hi Expert DBAs,
As I know the database should be restored from backup and logs reapplied. That’s the first and generally recommended approach any time a DB is suspect, whether it’s from log or data file corruption.
But if I have no backups then we follow below steps ( after Googling I found these steps on most of the websites ):
    1.EXEC sp_resetstatus ‘yourDBname’;
    2.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET EMERGENCY
    3.DBCC checkdb(’yourDBname’)
4.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
    5.DBCC CheckDB (’yourDBname’, REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS)
    6.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET MULTI_USER
    Now my question is,
    1. If after executing DBCC CHECKDB at 3rd step, it shows inconsistency. Then I will execute SET SINGLE USER WITH ROLLBACK & if after executing DBCC CHECKDB at 3rd step, no errors found. Then what will be the steps?
    2. When we execute DBCC CHECKDB (' DBNAME ', REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS) how can we recover lost data during process. As far as I know some data will loss and if it will happen then business will get suffered.
    3. Why run DBCC CHECKDB() WITH REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS if there are no consistency errors in the database?
I am stucked in these questions....
    Regards,
    Yashwant Vishwakarma | SQLOcean.com
    Yashwant Vishwakarma | www.sqlocean.com

There is no easy or same steps, it all depends on what error and what caused suspect.
    Example is below:
    http://www.sql-server-performance.com/2015/recovery-sql-server-suspect-mode/
    2) Straight answer would be no you cant recover if no backup. Again it all depends what error checkdb returns and some things can be tried as explained earlier but no guarantee.
The REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS option is not the best option for bringing a database to a physically consistent state. If successful, the REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS option may result in some data loss. In fact, it may result in more data lost than if a user were to
restore the database from the last known good backup. Microsoft always recommends a user restore from the last known good backup as the primary method to recover from errors reported by DBCC CHECKDB. The REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS option is not an alternative
for restoring from a known good backup. It is an emergency “last resort” option recommended for use only if restoring from a backup is not possible.
Certain errors, that can only be repaired using the REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS option, may involve deallocating a row, page, or series of pages to clear the errors. Any deallocated data is no longer accessible or recoverable for the user, and the exact contents
of the deallocated data cannot be determined. Therefore, referential integrity may not be accurate after any rows or pages are deallocated because foreign key constraints are not checked or maintained as part of this repair operation. The user must inspect
the referential integrity of their database (using DBCC CHECKCONSTRAINTS) after using the REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS option.

  • Database - Show SQL Query question..

    Greetings:
I am helping a co-worker with Crystal. I don't use crystal but I am able to explain the problem. My co worker is currently using crystal reports 8.5. If he pulls a query and the report is generated he can then click on Database menu then click on Show SQL Query. From there he is able to edit, add, remove fields. Now we want to place him on Crystal V10. When he does the same task, instead of being able to edit the Show SQL query he can only view it. Is there a way around this so that he can Edit the sql query in version 10 or did that feature go away in versions 9 and above. Also we are going to Purchase Crystal 2008, is this feature available in 08? Any help would be appreicated..

    Hi there!
I have the same problem as described above.  I have been asked to figure out what is wrong with one of the reports that used to work when we used MAS 4.05.  We are now on MAS 4.20 with Crystal Reports v.10 and the report fails to run.  I loaded the report into Crystal to see if I could see the problem and I discovered that the report is still trying to access a table from the old MAS database.  The SQL code as shown in the Show SQL Query window is as follows:
    SELECT "AR_InvoiceHistoryHeader"."InvoiceNo", "AR_InvoiceHistoryDetail"."ItemCodeDesc", "AR_InvoiceHistoryDetail"."ItemCode", "AR_InvoiceHistoryDetail"."ExtensionAmt"
    FROM   "AR_InvoiceHistoryHeader" "AR_InvoiceHistoryHeader", "AR_InvoiceHistoryDetail" "AR_InvoiceHistoryDetail"
    WHERE  "AR_InvoiceHistoryHeader"."InvoiceNo"="AR_InvoiceHistoryDetail"."InvoiceNo" AND "AR_InvoiceHistoryHeader"."HeaderSeqNo"="AR_InvoiceHistoryDetail"."HeaderSeqNo" AND "AR_InvoiceHistoryHeader"."CommissionAmt"="AR_InvoiceHistoryDetail"."CommissionAmt" AND      ARO_InvHistoryDetail."SOItemNumber" <> 'COMMENT' AND      ARN_InvHistoryHeader."InvoiceDate" = {d '2007-09-21'}
    ORDER BY "AR_InvoiceHistoryHeader"."InvoiceNo"
The problem is that ARN_InvHistoryHeader needs to be AR_InvoiceHistoryHeader and SOItemNumber needs to be ItemCode.
When I go into the Database Expert, I can only see the tables in the FROM clause.  I don't know how to modify the WHERE clause.  It kind of looks like this report was only partially converted to the new version.  Is there a way to changed these attributes without rebuilding the whole report?
By the way, I apologize for not setting my SQL off in a code box, but I tried that and it caused the page to be very wide with no horizontal scroll bar.

  • Switchover_status in standby database showing NOT ALLOWED

    Hi All,
My oracle database version is Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit on windows platform.
I need to perform switchover activity with dg_broker=TRUE.
When I checked the status of DR database I found that switchover_status is NOT ALLOWED rather than SESSION ACTIVE or TO PRIMARY.I have doubt whether switchover can be done successfully or not with this configuration?

    1.In this case,is switchover is possible?No
2.If not possible then what will be the next step?If the value in the SWITCHOVER_STATUS column is SESSIONS ACTIVE, identify and terminate active user or SQL sessions that might prevent a switchover from being processed.
If, after performing these steps, the SWITCHOVER_STATUS column still displays SESSIONS ACTIVE, you can successfully perform a switchover by appending the WITH SESSION SHUTDOWN clause to the
ALTER DATABASE COMMIT TO SWITCHOVER TO PHYSICAL STANDBY statement.
3.Is this will impact to our production database when switchover is not successfully perform?
4.In DR RFS is idle, why? Can you paste here log_archive_dest_n paramete which is you are using for transport?
Did you using DELAY attribute in log_archive_dest_n parameter?

  • Repository Database shows at wrong version in Grid Control

    Hi all,
I have successfully installed Grid Control and have upgraded the repository database to version 10.2.0.3. When I log into sqlplus to check the version number fit shows 10.2.0.3, but when I look at the database in Grid Control it is displaying as 10.2.0.1.
Does anyone have any idea why that would happen? Where does GC get its information from?
    Thanks,
    Paula

It is also worth mentioning that when I used DBUA to upgrade the repository database from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3 the EM config part failed. Having googled this it seems that this is fine for a Grid Control repository database, as it does not have an EM db console element to it anyway and therefore it cannot be upgraded, but I thoguht I best mention that in case it has a bearing on this issue.
    thanks,
    Paula

I have OIM 11g installed for learning purpose, wont be able to raise SR. Dont have DBA, as I have to deal with all the issues and am a newbie.
    Please help...
    Regards,
    Karan

    Hi,
For learning purpose, it is best to take advantage of Virtual Machine technology...
In the edelivery.oracle.com, Oracle has provided many different VMs...
    The site is:-
    https://edelivery.oracle.com/EPD/Search/handle_go
    Also learn from this link:-
Re: Help to get started with Oracle IDM suite
    And this link:-
Re: Oracle Identity Management 10g Release 2 (x86 32-bit) VM
And then when you have one VM, blank VM..
    (1) Download Oracle Database installer...
    (2) Install it on this VM..
    (3) Keep the back up of this VM... So that every time something goes wrong you won't need to start from level 0...
    (4) So, now that you have database backup, you start with the next level...
At Every successful level, keep one back up...
    (5) If something goes wrong in your Database, give some efforts to correct it in order to learn...
    (6) Otherwise, delete this VM and copy the backup... Once again, get started with fresh database installation level...
Hope you will have a smooth learning...

    Hi Sami,
It may be due to redo logs are not applied in standby so apply them as well and then try to open a database. Did you create controlfile from primary as standby? I mean did you use below command?
alter database create standby controlfile as '<location'; so without that it'll think that it's primary database. Change init.ora files accordingly. Are you creating a duplicate database or standby database?
    Thanks,

  • Can not connect the database via query string (C#). The SQL Server Management Studio is showing the full path of a location instead of database name.

I can not connect to the database via C#. The database is showing full path of the database file instead of the database name. See the pic: a database showing only name 'emart' and the other database showing the full path.
    : Robby

    Hi,
According to your post, I know that the database name is showing file path of the database rather than the database name in SQL Server Management Studio. You were not able to
establish a connection to the database using C#.
As Olaf said, was any error message thrown out when the connection failed? How did you create these databases?
You can use the following T-SQL to attach the database and see if the issue persists.
    CREATE DATABASE
    databasename
        ON (FILENAME = 'filepath _Data.mdf'),
        (FILENAME = 'filepath_Log.ldf')
    FOR ATTACH;
