Database Toolkit with Access 2010
Fellow wireworkers,
I have been using MS Jet to connect with an Access2003 database using the Database Connectivity toolkit for a few years now.
New project, LabVIEW2009, MS Office2010 (32bit) on Windows7 (64-bit).
Database Connectivity toolkit installed, example still uses Labview.mdb example database and MS Jet.
Installed the MS Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable,
Set the connection string with the UDL file to "“Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb, *.accdb)};DBQ=[path]\TestDatabase1.accdb" per instructions on the MS DBE 2010 site,
pressed the Build... button on the DataLink Properties wizard dialog,
Set the Machine Data Source to MS Access Database Type:User pressed OK and got this:
Ideas?
From: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc280478.aspx
Note
On a 64-bit computer, you must run packages that connect to Microsoft Access data sources in 32-bit mode. Both the Microsoft Jet OLE DB Provider and the OLE DB provider for the Microsoft Office 12.0 Access Database Engine are only available in 32-bit versions.
hmmm... I don't know enough about 64-bit Win7 (running MS Office 2010 32-bit). Will need to dig a bit deeper, but as Dennis suggests, my problem could be with Microsoft not LabVIEW.
...Just tried launching the UDL dialog on my 32-bit Win7 laptop running LabVIEW9.0.1(32-bit) and get the identical error (freeze).
When I launch the UDL dialog on my 32-bit Win7 laptop running LabVIEW10.0(32-bit), the UDL dialog works correctly.
Both attempts are after running LabVIEW "as administrator".
I also noticed the LabVIEW10.0 UDL launcher does not flash the "Create Data Link" helper vi that displays an "Initializing" progress bar.
It still could be a Win7 32/64 bit thing, but LabVIEW10.0 works while LabVIW9.0.1 freezes the UDL dialog...
...and yes... my University lab is managed by IT and they have not yet deployed LabVIEW2010 as the upgrade was received too close to the start of the fall semester.
I'll keep digging, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

How to make report with access 2010 from SharePoint Discussion lists 2013
HI,
I want to make an access report from SharePoint Discussion lists 2013. When i open the list with access, the body of the list is in HTML format in access. Also if i reply something to one subject in the discussion, the reply is not mapped to that subject
but instead it is shown as a separate entry in the database.
Anyone can please help?

Navigation Pane Spacing with Access 2010 in Windows 8.1
I am currently using Access 2010 in Windows 8.1 and have huge vertical spacing in the Access 2010 navigation pane. In looking through other issues of this type, others have been able to fix it by going into the quick access toolbar and switching from
touch mode to mouse mode.
However, in Access 2010 there is no quick toolbar option for touch mode. As it is, I can only see about 10 navigation pane items when I used to be able to see 20 or 30. I run fairly complex databases and this is a major slowdown.
Any ideas that do NOT involve updating to Access 2013? All my other Office 2010 apps seem to be working fine - just Access has the issue.Hi,

LabVIEW Simulation Interface Toolkit with Fieldpoint 2010
Hi,
I'm using SIT 3.0.1 with Labview 7.1 and FP-2010 hardware. How can I configure my model.dll parameters to Hardware I/O of FP-2010 ? In SIT connection manager show only the I/O for NI-CAN, NI-DAQ and NI-FPGA.
Please help me. Thank you very much.Hello,
NI-FieldPoint is not an option in the SIT Connection Manager. Therefore, it will not automatically generate code for the FieldPoint like it does for the other options.
You can, however, do this manually, and I suggest you take a look at this KnowledgeBase article.
I hope that this helps!

Database toolkit & Oracle 11g, problem with timestamps
I tested my application, based on the Database toolkit, with Access and Oracle XE (10g) databases and all was ok. After moving my database to a Oracle 11g server, i get this error for any query involving a TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE or TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE column:
ADO Error: 0x80040E21
Exception occured in Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers: ODBC driver does not support the requested properties.
The error is raised by the "Execute" invoke node in "DB Tools execute query.vi".
Using Labview 2009 and up to date Oracle ODBC drivers on Windows XPHi SnamProgetti,
I don't have any useful information about this error. You can try to read this and this document.

Converting a pre-Access 2000 database w/ user-level security to Access 2010
Hi -
An old database was passed down to me and I'm tasked with converting it so that we can use it with Access 2010. Sounds simple. However, I'm blocked in every attempt that I make to convert, export, and, in some cases, modify the database, due to not
having the "appropriate permissions". We (my manager and I) do not know the original owner, and we do not have the original workgroup file. I've had our IT guy check to make sure I am the system admin on my machine in hopes of that making a
difference - I was even able to create new workgroups and add and remove users to and from those groups but when I tried to convert (or save) the database, write some vba code behind the database, create and save new forms, or even update certain tables,
I'm told to contact my system administrator or original owner of the object about giving me the "appropriate permissions" to do either of those things. I'm out of ideas here. I've even had a team of people contribute ideas as to how I can get around
this. I cannot even convert this old database (which is in .mdb format, fyi) to an MDE. Is there any way that the user-level protection can be removed from this database? I'm hoping for an alternative other than to start over from scratch.Hi,
As you said that the .accdb format does not support replication or user-level security, we need to use the MDB format in Access 2010. Please try to follow the steps to remove the user-level protection:
1.Start Microsoft Access, and log on as a member of the Admins group.
This can be the administrator account that you created when you secured the database, or it can be any member of the Admins group. Be sure that you’re using your own security-enhanced workgroup information file when starting Access.
2.Open the database.
3.On the Tools menu, point to Security, and then click User And Group Permissions.
4.In the User And Group Permissions dialog box, assign full permissions to the Users group for the database and all the objects in the database.
Because all users are automatically part of the Users group, this step has the effect of concealing security again.
5.Click the Users tab, click Admin in the Name box, and then click Clear Password.
Clearing the password for the Admin user disables the Logon dialog box that is displayed when you start Access. All users are automatically logged on as the Admin user the next time they start Access. This step disables the Logon dialog box for all databases
that are using the same workgroup information file.
6.Restart Access.
7.Create a new database, and then import all objects from the security-enhanced database.
You can accomplish this easily by using the Import command (File menu, Get External Data submenu).

Access 2010 filter by form problem
I have an Access program with the forms recordset populated by a ado recordset with data from a SQL Sever stored procedure.
Fiter by forms works nicely under Access 2003.
I migrated to Office 2010 and converted my Access program to the 2007 format, recompiled the whole and started to run with Access 2010.
And now I cannot filter by forms anymore.
I can use the new shortcut menu but it never actually filters my data at all on the form.
On the internet I found someone who found out that replacing a dll with the one from Office 2007 does fix this.
And it actually does but surely this cannot be the final solution.
Any one experienced the same behaviour and found a solution.Hi,
First, I want you to confirm whether the steps of converting Access 2003 to Access 2010 is right:
On the
File tab, click Open.
In the
Open dialog box, select and open the Access 2000 or Access 2002 - 2003 database (.mdb) that you want to convert.
On the
File tab, click Save & Publish, and then, under
Database File Types click Access Database (*.accdb).
Click
Save As.
If any database objects are open when you click
Save As, Access prompts you to close them prior to creating the copy. Click
Yes to make Access close the objects, or click No to cancel the entire process. If needed, Access will also prompt you to save any changes.
In the
Save As dialog box, type a file name in the File name box, and then click
Save.
Access creates the copy of the database, and then opens the copy. Access automatically closes the original database.

Secondly, try to reapply the filter in the Access 2010 to check the issue. Please refer to the “Filter by form” part of the following link to see
the steps:

Web Database for existing Sharepoint 2010 List
I would like to create an Access Web Database based on a list that already exists in my SharePoint site. Is this possible?
Hi Adam,
From your description, my understanding is that you want to create an Access database using an existing SharePoint list.
In SharePoint lists, there is a button called "Open with Access". You can synchronize the data in a SharePoint list with Access 2010 by using the Open with Access command in the list ribbon. This command creates an Access table linked to the SharePoint
list, and a supplementary UserInfo table that contains additional information, such as user names, accounts, and e-mail addresses.
You can also link a table to an existing SharePoint List by using the SharePoint List command in the Import & Link group on the External Data tab.
More information about Access and SharePoint, you can refer to the link:

Acrobat X Pro - PDFMAKER Office COM in Access 2010
Hi,
I have Office 2013 and Access 2010 installed on my computer. I cannot get the PDFMAKER plugin to work with Access 2010. I tried to manually register the DLL and enabling the plugin. Is this becuase I have MS Office 2013 installed alongside Access 2010. Any info would be great since we run reports in Access and need to ability to merge all the pages in the reports. This was working on another machine that only had office 2010.
NickDon't remember if it was AA X or AA XI when support for ACCESS ended. That may be the issue. The compatibility chart at Compatible web browsers and PDFMaker applications suggests that ACCESS does not work for OFFICE 2013 and PDF Maker, but does for ACCESS 2010 on AA X (only version of Acrobat that worked with ACCESS 2010. AA XI does not work with ACCESS. Since you mention both OFFICE 2013 and ACCESS 2010, there may be an issue with 2010 really being the application running (check the help file for About Access for the version). Of course, Acrobat may be confused too, so you may have to activate the addon for ACCESS 2010.

Database Toolkit compile problem
We are using the
Database toolkit with Labview 8.2.
If a vi that calls a Database vi is used on
several computers then Labview will ask to save it with the following changes :
VI recompiled and sub vi calls modified.
This happens even if nothing was
changed.
This does not happened
on the computer on which the vi was formerly saved but systematically on all
other computers.
The software configuration
is exactly the same on all computers. The entire Labview directory has been
mass compiled on each of them.
This is very annoying
as we have a lot of database vi’s in our program and all the changes applying
to them hide the real changes to other vi's.
Moreover we are working with an SCM tool
(perforce) which oblige us to have exactly the same vi’s on each machine.
Thank you for your
help.
NicolasHello,
For those following this issue, this was reported to R&D
(#41EBTL3Q) for further investigation. As
it turns out, the problem is that the database toolkit is using strict type
definitions. This would normally not be
significant, except that there is a small problem with LabVIEW recompiling the
typedef when it has already been mass compiled (as is required for the database
toolkit in LabVIEW 8.2).
There is another workaround:
1) Install LabVIEW and the
database toolkit on all your development machines
2) Mass compile the database
toolkit (vi.lib/addons/database) on all the machines
3) Copy the vi.lib database
folder of one of these computers (usually found at: C:\Program Files\National
Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\vi.lib\addons\database) to a CD (or media of your
choosing)
4) Replace this folder on all of
the other computers with the folder from the CD
5) Use the toolkit as normal
If this doesn't work, you can
also probably check in the toolkit folder to perforce, and just have the users
check it in/out each time, but this situation is a little less than ideal, and
we have not tested it.
This problem will NOT affect the execution of the toolkit
(or LV in
general). Most users will only be inconvenienced
by this problem when using Source Code Control.
Have a great weekend!

In the very near future we will be forced to upgrade to Office 2010 Company wide and I am a little concerned with some of our older test platforms that have applications built in LabView 8.2.1. These applications save data to MS-ACCESS 2000 databases using the LabView database connectivity toolkit 1.0.1. Office 2003 is also loaded on these test platforms with all test reports generated using the LabView report generation toolkit for Office 1.1.3.
I have not gotten my hands on a copy of Office 2010 yet to see if there will be any compatibility issues. Does anyone have any experience in this area? The MS-Access part is fairly well isolated through the ADO interface LabVIEW uses. The only possible problems there IMHO are difficulties with possible Acess compatibilities itself such as an example, SQL statement you may have invoked directly through the ADO interface. Maybe you did use a depreciated command back then that has since been removed. As long as the only thing you do are simple INSERT and SELECT statements only, I would expect it to just keep working.
The Report Generation interface is a different beast. Microsoft manages to change the Automation interface with every version of office in a way that strongly binding applications like LabVIEW break on. There is no good way around that except not changing those methods, but that is a cause that has been lost already. You will certainly have to verify the version dependant Report Generation API VIs to still work with Office 2010 and most likely you will have to make some changes to those VIs to make them work again with the modified ActiveX interface of Office 2010. Note, that I have no experience with porting report generation to Office 2010 but I have had some headaches from porting that between Office 97, 2000, 2003, and 2007.

Working offline with data from Access 2010 web database
Hello all,
I have an Access 2010 web database that I have published to a SharePoint site. Users currently work with the data via one of several Access 2010 front end applications that simply have linked tables and client queires, forms and reports. On a couple
of occasions, we have had issues with our SharePoint site that have left users unable to access the data. A couple of times it was due to our site collection suddenly and inexplicably becoming read only and the last time (while I was on vacation, of course)
due to some license changes my folks were unable to access the site.
I'm getting ready to go on vacation again. What i would like to do is have a sort of emergency back up plan should things go awry again while I'm gone.
What I envision is a back up database that has actual data tables, rather than simply linked lists, that I can sync with my SharePoint lists on a regular basis. That way, should the SharePoint lists become inaccessible, users could continue to work with
the data offline and any changes can be synced once a connection is restored.
I have read through
this article, but in each scenario I was unable to actually open tables to work with the data once offline. Is this a situation where I should simply have folks work offline with a local copy containing all of the data and then republish? Or, is there
a way to simply sync? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm really hoping to leave my laptop at home on this next trip.
Thanks,
GregHi,
I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay, appreciate your patience.
Thanks

Unable to read data in Excel 2010/2013 from encrypted Access 2010/2013 database
A customer has an Access database (.accdb), which was encrypted/given a database password in Access 2013. It should be possible to read that data from Excel 2010/2013, but when clicking on Data-->From Access
and the correct path is put in and the correct database password has been entered, Excel just keeps prompting for the database password. This happens with both Excel 2010 and 2013.
The database password supplied is correct as evidenced by opening the database in Access 2013 using the same database password.
A colleague in a separate company has found that a separate .accdb file he has recently encrypted also has the same problem as above, yet a .accdb file encrypted ages ago
is readable from Excel.
How do I get Excel 2010/2013 to read the data from the encrypted .accdb file, please?Since Access 2010 the encryption algorithm has changed:
Source
Follow the next steps to apply an encryption method that will allow you to (programmatically) connect to the database:
1. Decrypt the database
2. Change the encryption method:
- In Access Options select 'Client Settings'
- Scroll down to section 'Advanced'
- 'Encryption Method': select option 'Use legacy encryption (..'
- Click 'OK'
3. Encrypt the database
Hope this helps.
