Database Top activity - cluster activity is more

We have a three node RAC database. The graph of top activity under grid control is showing more activity with cluster when we run any DML transactions. Could someone explain why is it so and how to resolve it?.

I think by just querying ASH you can come up with the %activity (or %load). There is no need to make a trace.
please post SQL that meets your requirments
are you licensed to actually use ASH?

• This mailbox database is associated with one or more active PublicFolderMove requests

I'm trying to clean up an Exchange 2013 installation (CU2) which is the result of a migrated Exchange 2007 done last summer.
This installation contained several databases which we are trying to slim down to just one, but I've run into some trouble deleting one of these databases. I've made sure that there's nothing left in the database but the Monitoring mailboxes, but when I
try to delete the database I get the following error:
This mailbox database is associated with one or more active PublicFolderMove requests. To get a list of all PublicFolderMove requests associated with this database, run Get-PublicFolderMoveRequest | ?{ $_.RequestQueue -eq "Public Folder Database" }. To remove a PublicFolderMove request, run Remove-PublicFolderMoveRequest <Recipient ID\Request Name>.
If I look into that one further I can see the following:
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-PublicFolderMoveRequest | fl
RunspaceId : d07e91a4-aadb-4c2a-8e01-68127464e8e0
SourceMailbox : contoso.local/Users/Contoso
TargetMailbox :
Name : PublicFolderMove
RequestGuid : 65c5d048-0e56-4c01-88ce-8594699826ee
RequestQueue : Public Folder Database
Flags : IntraOrg, Pull
BatchName :
Status : InProgress

Suspend : False
Direction : Pull
RequestStyle : IntraOrg

WhenCreatedUTC : 2013-06-25 14:03:07
Identity : \PublicFolderMove
IsValid : True
ObjectState : New
So, I've found out that I can run "Remove-PublicFolderMoveRequest <Recipient ID\Request Name>" to remove that request, but I find it a little disturbing that we've had that job for 9 months in the background, and I'm unsure of what will happen
if I actually delete that job.
The Target Mailbox is also empty. Shouldn't it contain something?
We want to keep the Public Folder Database in the current database and it should not have anything to do with the database I'm trying to delete (it does not reside there right now).
Any thoughts on how to proceed, and what the reason for this might be? Could it be something that was done while migrating from E2k7 to E2k13 and never was cleaned up correctly?
Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, thanks! But, the problem is that I can't delete it because of the error message in the first post ;) Namely:
This mailbox database is associated with one or more active PublicFolderMove requests. To get a list of all PublicFolderMove requests associated with this database, run Get-PublicFolderMoveRequest | ?{ $_.RequestQueue -eq "Public Folder Database" }. To remove a PublicFolderMove request, run Remove-PublicFolderMoveRequest <Recipient ID\Request Name>.

• Exchange 2013: This mailbox database is associated with one or more active mailboximport / Cannot uninstall exchange

We have a corrupted installation of Exchange 2013 due to installating CU6
New Exchange server is already installed and mailboxes are migrated over, I am now in the process to uninstall the old exchange 2013 so we can decomission it but I get this error when I try to run uninstall
"This mailbox database is associated with one or more active mailbox import,To get a list of all Mailboximport request associated with this database, run Get MailboxImportRequest | ?{ $_.RequestQueue -eq "<Database ID>"}....
But when i run this command I get an error of" The Get-MailboxImportRequest is not recognized as a cmdlet...
Any advise is appreciated
Thanks.

Hi ,
From the error message i came to know few things i have mentioned mentioned below .
If you want to remove the problematic exchange server , you need to remove the existing mailbox import requests.
For that you should need to have the required permission for the user account from which you are trying to execute the command
Just check your user account is having the Mailbox Import Export role permissions .
If you have the required permissions then go ahead and execute the commands
Get-MailboxImportRequest | ft -au ( this is to see how many no of the mailbox import request are available
Remove-MailboxImportRequest
( this command is to remove the entire mailbox import move request)
Once you have done with that , then you start proceeding uninstalling the exchange server .
Regards
S.Nithyanandham
Thanks S.Nithyanandham

• This SQL statement always in Top Activity, with PX Deq Credit: send blkd

Hi gurus,
The following SQL statement is always among the Top Activity. I can see the details in Enerprise manager that it suffers from PX Deq Credit: send blkd
This is the statement:

ROUND(f_convert_qty(S.PRODUCT, Qty_Beg-FLOOR(Qty_Beg), P.UOM_K ), 0) QtyBeg_K,

The result can be 10 to 8000. It is used to display the current stock availability for a particular product in a particular warehouse. The stock availability it self is kept in a View : V_Stock_Detail

Hi sir,
How to prevent the query from doing parallel query ?
Because as you see actually I am not issuing any Parallel hints in the query.
Thank you,
xtantoKristanto,
there are a couple of points to consider:
1. Your SQL*Plus version seems to be outdated. Please use a SQL*Plus version that corresponds to your database version. E.g. the AUTOTRACE output is odd.
2. I would suggest to repeat your exercise using serial execution (the plan, the autotrace, the tracing). You can disable parallel queries by issuing this in your session:
ALTER SESSION DISABLE PARALLEL QUERY;
This way the output of the tools is much more meaningful, however you might get a different execution plan, therefore the results might not be representative for your parallel execution.
3. The function calls might pose a problem. If they are, one possible damage limitation has been provided by hoek. Even better would be then to replace the PL/SQL function with equivalent plain SQL. However since you say that it generates not too many rows it might not harm here too much. You can check the impact of the functions by running a similar query but omitting the function calls.
4. The parallel execution plan contains a MERGE JOIN CARTESIAN operation which could be an issue if the estimates of the optimizer are incorrect. If the serial execution still uses this operation the TKPROF and DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY_CURSOR output will reveal whether this is a problem or not.
5. The execution of the statement seems to take on 2-3 seconds in your tests. Is this in the right ballpark? If yes, why should this statement then be problematic? How often does it get executed?
6. The statement uses bind variables, so you might have executions that use different execution plans depending on the bind values passed when the statement got optimized. You can use DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY_CURSOR using NULL as "child_number" parameter or DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY_AWR (if you have a AWR license) to check if you have multiple execution plans for the statement. Please note that older versions might have already been aged out of the shared pool, so the AWR repository might be a more reliable source (but only if the statement has been sampled).
7. You have disabled cost based transformations: "_optimizer_cost_based_transformation" = OFF. Why?

• Registering an Oracle 10g R2 database in Active Directory

Hi Gurus!
I'm testing with Oracle 10g R2 and Windows 2003 Server (german version). I have the following configuration:
Computer 1:
OS: Windows 2003 Server SP 2
Status: Domain Controller (DNS and AD is correctly setup by the server configuration wizard)
Oracle Client Administration tools are installed.
Computer 2:
OS: Windows 2003 Server SP 2
Status: Domainclient (DNS resolution of the DC works perfectly)
Oracle database 10g R2 is installed with Advanced Security Option
I did the steps to create the Oracle schema and Oracle context in Active Directory as mentioned in Claus Jandausch's Book "Oracle 10g Release 2 für Windows und .NET". I could do this steps without any errors. After that I configured ldap.ora and sqlnet.ora on Computer 2 like this:
ldap.ora
DEFAULT_ADMIN_CONTEXT = "dc=oracle,dc=de"
DIRECTORY_SERVER_TYPE = ADsqlnet.ora
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH = (LDAP)In the next step I've created a Net Servicename with Netmanager in the Oracle Context. Creation and resolution of this Net Servicename (tnsping) could be done flawlessly. But now I've come to the sticking point where I want to register my database in Active Directory. I also did as Claus Jandausch said in his book. I've opened the database configuration assistant and tried to do the registration but DBCA hangs at 7 % and an TNS-04405 pops up that tells me: Datenbankeintrag kann in Directory Service nicht erstellt werden. TNS-04405 Allgemeiner Fehler (Databaseentry could not be created in Directory Service. TNS-04405 Common Error).
Because this only a testing environment I've tried to give the Dom Admin full access to the complete Domain Context and Configuration Context but event that did not the trick.
Does anyone know what hooks, bugs or other things could be within Oracle or AD that prevent me from registering my database?
I'm looking forward to you posts and I appreciate your help.
yours sincerely
Florian W.

Before you can install RAC, you need disk storage that is configured to be used by two or more computers at the same time.
The difficulty in RAC installation is getting that storage correct.
If you are doing this for a real environment, you will need to ensure you have the right KIND of storage. If you are doing this to play around (learn, evaluate, prototype) you can get away with a simulation of that storage.
Assuming a serious implementation, the options are:
- NetApp filer using their special implementation of NFS;
- shareable iSCSI (the shareable part is not often found - available from NetApp as well);
- SANs that permit multiple accesses to the raw LVM;
- cluster file systems, such as Veritas CFS.
For play-around implementations, you could also use;
- two computers, using configurable firewire or scsi controllers, attached to firewire or scsi drives;
- VMWare, as described by Howard at http://www.dizwell.com;
- NetApp simulator (if you have a valid NetApp license already).
Of these options, I personally lean toward the NetApp NFS as it is the least expensive of the production-worthy options. NetApp sells the FAS250 with 1TB disk at a reasonable price.

• User-defined alert based on Top Activity screen?

Does anyone know the query used to populate the Top Activity screen in Grid Control? I want to make a user-defined alert that will page me if the Top Activity is over a certain amount.

Hi Bishal,
Rather than using an alert, you could put validation code in the SBO_SP_TransactionNotification stored procedure to check for the same job number before the document is added. This is a permitted solution as SAP allow users to add their own sql code to this proc (provided it's not inserting or updating data in SBO system tables).
To set up this solution (on a test system):
1) Open SQL Studio Management
2) In the Object Explorer expand the company database, expand Programmability and Stored Procedures
3) Right-click the SBO_SP_TransactionNotification stored procedure and choose Modify. This will create an update script in the main window.
4) Look for the following section in the script:
--     ADD     YOUR     CODE     HERE
5) Underneath the above section, paste the following code:
if @OBJECT_TYPE = '17' and @TRANSACTION_TYPE in ('U', 'A')
if exists(select DocEntry from ORDR where DocEntry <> cast(@LIST_OF_COLS_VAL_TAB_DEL as int)
and U_Jobnumber is not null and U_Jobnumber <> ''
and U_Jobnumber = (select U_Jobnumber from ORDR where DocEntry = cast(@LIST_OF_COLS_VAL_TAB_DEL as int)) )
begin
set @ERROR = '9999' -- Set your own error code here
set @ERROR_MESSAGE = 'The Job Number entered has already been used on a previous sales order.'
end
6) Click on Execute and you should get a message stating that the update was successful
7) Test adding a new sales order
The above script will raise an error when the user clicks on Add if a job number has been specified on the sales order and that number has already been used. It will not check if a job number has not been specified
Kind Regards,
Owen

• Problem in "Top Activity"

Hi all.
I have following problem on displaying data in GC "Top Activity" section:
No activity of the relevant type occurred in the chosen interval for drop list "*Real Time:15 seconds refresh*" and from "*Real Time: Manual Refrersh*". And finally for "*Historical*" all right, all data have displayed correctly. Please point me to the right way of root cause.
Thanks/

Was there any relevant activity in this database you are monitoring ? Try running this on sqlplus and check again:
select /*+PARALLEL 4*/ * from dba_objects a, dba_objects b order by 1;

• Top activity on enterprise manager

Hi
I am using grid control.
When I check one of my database, I notice that there is no graph in top activity page !!!!! , the top sql and the top sessions parts are also empty. Nothing is shown...
There was no problem before...
Other than top activity everything is normal.
What is the reason for this? and Any suggestion
Oracle Database Version: 10.1.0.5.0
Grid Control agent version: 10.2.0.1.0
I tried restarting the agent, it didnt solve the problem..

Check the agent status and see if the metrics XML files are pending upload.

• Top Activity and Monitored SQL Executions

Hi,
We have some issues with our batch jobs and I bumped into an issue I've seen before.
I can see in Top Activity that there is a job running in my database and I can see the SQL through Top Activity page in GC. When I try to monitor the SQL "live" with Monitored SQL Executions I can't see any executions at all in the database.
If I go to the session browser in TOAD I can see the process (SID) as active and I can see the current statment (the same as in Top Activity)
So to summarize:
Why can't I see the SQL in Monitored SQL Executions?
Btw We run Oracle 11.2.0.2
Regards
Morten

Please log an SR provide SQL Monitor Active Report for your SQL. Thanks.

Hello;
Script has to be run from auxiliary.
Great details, but what I don't see is how you connect in RMAN.
Example
Start RMAN
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@recover2 auxiliary=sys/@reclone
Recovery Manager: Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production on Wed Feb 22 14:50:31 2012
Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.
connected to target database: RECOVER2 (DBID=3806912436)
connected to auxiliary database: RECLONE (not mounted)Nothing in your tnsnames or listener jumps out as wrong. I copied them into my text editor and compared against my working ones.
Generally for active duplication I start the future standby on a pfile NOMOUNT.
Auxiliary Instance Initialization Parameters Needed :
DB_NAME
CONTROL_FILES
DB_BLOCK_SIZE
( add extra parameters like DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT instead of using the SET command - clean up standby spfile right after duplication )
Then start RMAN and finally run a single line duplication command.
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@primary auxiliary=sys/@standby
RMAN>duplicate target database for standby from active database NOFILENAMECHECK;Best Regards

Pl do not post duplicates - Issue in configuring Standby Database from Active database in 11g by RMAN

• Rman clone duplicate database from active database

Hi All,
I read document saying that rman can duplicate database from active database (prod) to a remote server, so long as you configure listener and tnsname.
I am working toward it.
I met a problem, which is when i bring up auxiliary database in nomount mode, the listener service of that auxiliary database is in BLOCKED status, and throw out ora-12528 error when I rman auxiliary sys/pass@clonedb. Isn't nomount mode the mode which auxiliary db is supposed to be in?
(ora-12528: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections)
Thanks,
milic

You may have run into the same problem like I did recently:
The (UR=A) clause in tnsnames.ora is intended to work with a dynamically registered handler so the use of SERVICE_NAME versus SID is preferred.
ORA-12528: TNS listener BLOCKED - trying to duplicate database
Also for further problems:
RMAN 11gR2 duplicate database ORA-17627 ORA-01017 RMAN-03009 ORA-17628

Don't know if this will help, but I use the connect string below to connect, then run the command below. This is, of course, after the rman backup from the prod system has been copied to the flash_recovery_area of the aux database. All file paths are the same between the two systems. Works like a charm most nights. The local tnsnames file on the rman catalog server has working entries for @SDPROD, @rman and @SDSTB.
