Database Vault 11g with RAC

According to Oracle whitepaper, it mentioned that "The Oracle Home where DV is to be installed does not contain any ASM instance."
But, ASM and RAC DB are located at the same home (Default installation) at my site.
I jsut puzzle how I can fulfill this requirement. Could any expert give me some advices ?

* Certainly , you can install DBV with ASM. However, Oracle support doesn't guarantee it's stability and patch availability.That's fine. Let me discuss with stakeholdersr . My next task is to split RAC and ASM

I want to know the installation steps for Oracle Database Vault (11g-version:11.1.0.6).
Is there any document which specifies the installation steps.
I have the document for 10g - Database Vault installation. But i am not able to find any specific document for 11g Database Vault installation.

Database Vault support with OGG

IHAC who wants to use OGG 11.1.1.1 on a RAC database with "Database Vault" installed.
I found Bug 12356827: NEW DV ROLE IS REQUIRED FOR GOLDEN GATE OCI API TO RUN PROPERLY.
It's unclear, if this just means we need the new DV Role DV_GOLDENGATE_REDO_ACCESS in order to be "DV compliant"
or if GG doesn't work at all with DV enabled Databases.
Please clarifiy, if and with which OGG + Oracle Release we fully support Database Vault.

I know Database Vault is certified for use with E-Business Suite, and EBS is certified for use with GoldenGate (with the noted limitations of a couple of data types and some tables here and there, as documented in a support note). Given that chain, I would say yes. There isn't much, if any, public information, so to be sure, you should ask Oracle support. There is one hit on Google about dv_goldengate_redo_access, and it comes from your question. I would take that as a sign that you need to go to the source (Oracle) to confirm.

Upgrade database to 11g with Application Express 3.1.2.00.02

What is the recommended procedure to upgrade to a 11G database while running apex 3.1.2
We recently upgraded our development database to 11g - the steps followed were to create a new 11g database and export from 10g and import our schemas into
the new version. while creating the database our DBA selected the install Apex option. Well this caused APEX to downgrade our version to 3.0
Of course nothing worked. It's been over a week now and through many posts and other googled articles have made several attempts to rectify this. I've uninstalled and reinstalled apex many times but my real concern at the moment is......
Well now management is ready for the next 11g environment - yikes! I'd like to know some steps to take to keep this mess from happening again.

As you mention in your post, installing Apex as part of 11g is optional. If you are concerned about staying with the version of Apex you have (especially if it is later than the version that comes with 11.1) then just ask your DBA to not install Apex with the 11g installer. Apex can be installed separately and can be which ever version you need (within limits).
Likewise, when upgrading from 10g to 11g, you can either upgrade the database in-situ (which would preserve your Apex database installation I believe) or create a new instance and import your schemas and redeploy your apex apps (having installed Apex manually).
As an aside, 11.2 (out for Linux/Solaris) seems to come with 3.2.1.

Installation audit vault agent with RAC configuration

I have a question about the installation of the agent on the RAC configuration. Where must I install the Audit vault agent, on all RAC nodes or is there a properly configuration?

By default when you install the agent on any single node the installation recognizes that it is a cluster and presents you with a list of available nodes from which to select.
With a RAC cluster you have one database and multiple instances. All instances will write to one, and only one AUD$ and FGA_LOG$ table so if you are using database auditing one node will suffice. Which node that is though depends on knowing which node is up at any one time so you could potentially choose a node that is dropped from the cluster or is down for patching and maintenance while the cluster is still running. With respect to REDO collection each node has its own redo thread so you definitely need to be collecting from every node.
Audit Vault has not been out long enough that I can tell you from experience what might be defined as "best practice" and often what we really need to study is "worst practice" to know what not to do. But in the case of RAC my instinct would be to first determine the collection type(s) and then decide. Erring on the side of collecting from all nodes makes a lot of sense.

Problem with database vault

Hi,
i installed a database 11gR1 (11.1.0.7) with the database vault option.
As in the documentation i tried to call the database vault administrator with the url https://<server_name>:<em_port>/dva. I get a "404 not found" message. The entreprise manager runs without problem.
I search at the directory $ORACLE_HOME/oc4j/j2ee/oc4j_applications/applications for the dva directory, but there is no one. ( The em directory exists )
If I execute the statement select * from v$option where parameter like '%Vault'; the value is TRUE, what means the database vault is installed and enabled.
Has somebody an idea why I can't call the database vault administrator ?

what do you mean with create the vault in the database ? I simply installed the database software with the database vault option, afterwards I create the database with the dbca. In the dbca I give the information of the two vault users.
So far I know, if the entry in the v$option for database vault is true, database vault is enabled. Isn't it ?
The sql statement gives as result the file $ORACLE_BASE/admin/<SID>/wallet with the status closed. The wallet is necessary for encryption, but my target is not to encrypt the database, it's to control de access to the information.

Grant Privileges in Database Vault for DATAPUMP.

I am using ORACLE DATABASE 11g R2.
I have installed/enabled DATABASE VAULT 11g on it.
I have configured many user in it for privileges like 'SELECT on table','INSERT on table' ,DELETE .....
I want to give a user DATAPUMP privilege so that he can export and import.
I have 2 users.
1) MAIN
2) BACKUP
MAIN user is the owner and the most important schema. Now i want one more schema named 'BACKUP' which will be able to take backup from MAIN schema. NO OTHER SCHEMA SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO TAKE BACKUP OF MAIN SCHEMA NOT EVEN SYS.
*Can anyone tell me how i can grant proper privilege to BACKUP schema so that he can use DATAPUMP and import/export from OS prompt on the MAIN schema.
NOTE :- I have Database vault installed on my server. Please let me know what all RULES or RULE SETS I need to make to make this happen.

I have managed with privileges to grant BACKUP user right to start an IMPORT but i get these errors while importing :-

Database Vault on e-Business suite R12

Hi,
As i know, database vault prevents even DBA's from querying the critical data from the database. Can somebody please tell me what advantage does database vault on e-business suite offers in terms of security. I have installed vault on my e-business R12 database?
If DBA has password for both system and apps schema, they he can access any critical information from the e-business suite database.

Remember, someone always has the key (as mentioned in the other thread), which means the Realm Owner (created in Oracle Database Vault) has access to the Realm schemas.

Schema export via Oracle data pump with Database Vault enabled question

I have installed and configured Database Vault on an Oracle 11g-r2-11.2.0.3 to protect a specific schema (SCHEMA_NAME) via a realm. I have followed the following doc:

to ensure that the sys and the system user has sufficient rights to complete a schedule Oracle data pump export operation.
I.e. I have granted to sys and system the following:
execute dvsys.dbms_macadm.authorize_scheduler_user('sys','SCHEMA_NAME');
execute dvsys.dbms_macadm.authorize_scheduler_user('system','SCHEMA_NAME');
execute dvsys.dbms_macadm.authorize_datapump_user('sys','SCHEMA_NAME');
execute dvsys.dbms_macadm.authorize_datapump_user('system','SCHEMA_NAME');
I have also create a second realm on the same schema (SCHEMA_NAME) to allow sys and system to maintain indexes for real-protected tables, To allow a sys and system to maintain indexes for realm-protected tables. This separate realm was created for all their index types: Index, Index Partition, and Indextype, sys and system have been authorized as OWNER to this realm.
However, when I try and complete an Oracle Data Pump export operation on the schema, I get two errors directly after the following line displayed in the export log:

Snapshot standby database in oracle 11g r2 RAC

Folks,
i am just wondering if the process is same for standalone and RAC snapshot standby database.
We have a DR test
1 / I just converted the standalone DR on 11g to snapshot standby database for users to do some testing and reverted back to physical standby after test was done. i folllowed metalink note ID 443720.1
2/ now there is anotherDR test where we have 2 node prod and 2 node DR on oracle 11g rel2 RAC, so not sure we can follow the same process that i used for 11g standalone database. If somebody have done this on RAC, would you please provide the steps ?

I haven't done a Snapshot Standby (RAC or non-RAC). But I see no reason why it shouldn't work with a RAC Standby either.
The command is a Database level command, not an Instance level command.

Am aware that till 10g Database vault is seperate product and we need to download it seperately and install it to make use of it. From 11g is it included along with Enterprise Edition software or still a seperate product?

it is included with 11g.you just check mark its box when installaing software only.then run dbca and you will find it enabled.if you have installed oracle and didnot check mark the box here is the steps how to enable it manually.
To Enable Database vault manually we do the following:
1-Shutdown immediate
2-cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib
3-make -f ins_rdbms.mk lbac_on dv_on ioracle
4-sqlplus / as sysdba
startup nomount
alter database mount;
alter database open;
5-select * from v$option where parameter='oracle database vault';

You have 2 options to work around the SYSDBA ISSUE :
1. You can disable all of the default Command roles and REALMS - I do it any way on a Database Vault Deployment, I want to full control over the database vault roles and realms.
2. Database vault manual - 9.5.1 Step 1: Enable Logins for the SYSDBA Role - shows you how disable the SYSDBA enforcement (See CUT&PASTE at the bottom of this message)

9.5.1 Step 1: Enable Logins for the SYSDBA :
To enable the ability to log in using the SYSDBA role:
1. Log in using the Oracle software owner account (usually oracle) to the computer where Oracle Database is installed.
2. Go to the following directory, which is the default location for password files:
cd $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
3. Run the orapwd utility to create two copies of the password file: one with SYSDBA enabled and the second with SYSDBA disabled.
This way, you can enable or disable SYSDBA in the future by simply using the appropriate password file.
First, create a password file that disables SYSDBA:
orapwd file=$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapwdSID.sysdba_closed password=pwd nosysdba=y
Do not enter spaces around the equal (=) character.
Next, create a password file that enables SYSDBA:
orapwd file=$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapwdSID.sysdba_open password=pwd nosysdba=n
For more information on running orapwd, see "Enable or Disable Connections with the SYSDBA Privilege" in Oracle Database Vault Installation Guide.
4. Copy the password file to the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory, which is where Oracle Database checks for the password file.
cp –p orapwdSID.sysdba_open orapwdSID
When you are ready to disable the SYSDBA, you can enter the following command:
cp –p orapwdSID.sysdba_closed orapwdSID

12.1.3 EBS single node 11.2.0.3 database to 2 node RAC with ASM

Hi,
We are planning to convert single node local/ordinary file system 11.2.0.3 database to 2 node RAC with ASM.
Please help me in creating the roadmap for the same.
e.g
1. Create the shared raw file system
2. Create diskgroup for ASM
3.. Convert the local file system to ASM first
etc, etc
This is the first big task hence need expert guidance.
