Databases in Oracle

Hi,
I am using Oracle 10g. I'm trying to find a query for Oracle to retrieve the available databases, just like mysql has "SHOW DATABASES". But I just can't seem to find it in their horrific huge documentation section. Can somebody help me?

But in this post some members told me to run this
command in SQL*Plus. How can we run this Sql*Plus
because u r telling this unix command.You did not notice the 'host' in front of the unix command, did you?
That comnmand basically tells SQLPlus to pass the rest of the line to the host operating system.

I have downloaded a copy of Oracle Database 10g Express Edition from Oracle's website. I am using Windows XP. I am trying to create an Oracle database that I can connect to from Access 2003 via ODBC.
1. How do I create a new database? I can see options to create tables, views, etc. but not a database.
2. I have created a System DSN connection in the ODBC Data Source Administrator for the Oracle ODBC driver. Once I create a database in Oracle, how do I actually establish a connection to it from Access? The ODBC code to connect is there, but when I run it, I get an error.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

1. How do I create a new database? I can see options to create tables, views, etc. but not a database.If you can see those options then you are already connected to the database. You probably want to create a user, not a database (are you by chance coming from SQL Server?)

I created a Secondary Index in DEV, its fine and the message is,
Index KNA1~Z01 exists in database system ORACLE
I moved it to TEST and there I got the message is like,
Index does not exist in database system ORACLE
So,
1 - Wht I hv to do now? Shuld I see BASIS people?
2- Why its happened like that? Coz of not enough space?

Exporting data from SQL Server database to Oracle database

Hello All,
We need to replicate a table's data of SQL Server database to Oracle database.
Can this task be accomplished using Import/Export wizard or Linked servers?
Can help me regarding which Oracle data access components should i download to do this?

Are they text fields? Try surrounding them with quotes:

Error while running catproc.sql during database upgradation Oracle 8.1.7.4

We are in the process of upgrading the database from Oracle version 8.1.7.0 to 8.1.7.4
For that we are applying the patch no. 2376472
As per the patch we have run catproc.sql script.
On running the script we are getting below mentioned errors,

HELP: Problem creating a new database in Oracle 9i

I am having difficulty in creating a new database in Oracle 9i, on Windows 2000. I would be obliged if somebody can go through the posting below and guide me as to what mistake I am making or what is the source of the problem:
I reproduce the steps taken by me.
I have decide the database to be called Mydb. I have made the following directories:

I copied the initoracle.ora file to d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora, and made the following changes to it:

-- core_dump_dest = d:\mydb\cdump

The data files, control file, redo log files are all created. But the above error comes, and I am unable to start the database. What is the reason?

I have executed the following commands (which are in a script file),
1. sqlplus /nolog
2. connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba
3. create database ...
4. ...
When I execute the 3rd command, I get an error message as "ORACLE TERMINATED FORCED" and it will end the session. So when the next set of commands in the script are executed, I got the error saying "DATABASE NOT OPEN".
How to rectify this problem.

If you have different databases on same node you could choose to not set ORACLE_SID in shell init file but use instead interactive oraenv Oracle script to set the right ORACLE_SID.

We tried to upgrade from 8.0.6 to 8.1.7 with the help of Inst Guides from service market place..the thing is we created another oracle home with new DBSID ither than the old DBSID...when we started the migration using 8.1.7 Data migration tool its not responding after the first phase CHECKING THE OLD DATABASE...
Pls help us in this regard

I have installed unixODBC and a db2 odbc driver. I can connect to the db2 using isql, but oracle comes with this error:

Error while migrate my primavera sql database to oracle database

I have used the migrate batch file to migrate my old database "Primavera V 6.0 SQL" to new database "Primavera V 8.2 Oracle"
the process in my labtop is OK
but in my PC the process hanged on "Creat remaining database objects (e.g. constraints and indexes) " Step
with this error
"Error in Run SQL Script orppm_ins_aux.sql: DatabaseToolException (ORA-02298: cannot validate (ADMUSER.FK_RSRCRATE_RSRC) - Perant keys not found ) "
any help fixing this error

Best Reagrds,I have not seen that specifically but it appears that not all of the grants were correctly applied.
I would suggest running the schema validation tool which can be found on the knowledgebase as Solution ID: prim75459 as this will tell you what is missing/invalid.
Once you know that, you can pull the neccesary grants from the create scripts located in the cd1\install\database\scripts folder.
