DATE and PreparedStatement

I'm trying to update a table using a PreparedStatement. Always receive the following SQL exception : ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected. I send my date parameter has a string and try to convert them using the TO_CHAR/TO_DATE function.
String psQuery = "update requ_ord set adj_horizon_date=? where ...";
PreparedStatement pSt = conn.prepareStatement(psQuery);
pSt.setString(1, "TO_DATE('2000-03-10', 'YYYY-MM-DD')");
pSt.execute();
null

Hi,
Your SQL statement is equivalent to
update xxx set sdate='TO_date('2000-01-01','yyyy-mm-dd')'
Above statement will give same error which you were getting..
what you can do is change your sql statement to
String psQuery = "update requ_ord set adj_horizon_date=to_date(?,'yyyy-mm-dd') where ...";

  • Insert current date and time into Oracle date type field

    I have a JDBC current date and time insert into Oracle 9i that almost works. It submits the current date and a fixed time into the Oracle date type field. I am using Tomcat 6.0.20.
    For example if I insert the data at 7:24:04 PM on Feb 16, 2010 it will insert as: 16-Feb-2010 12:00:00 AM
    The date part works but the time always shows 12:00:00 AM no matter what date or time the data is inserted.
    Here is what I have for my JDBC inserts and I also tried something with DateFormat:
    PreparedStatement ps; Date mydate = new Date(new java.util.Date().getTime()); //insert statement here.... stmt.setDate(1,mydate);
    I also tried:
    PreparedStatement ps; java.sql.Timestamp mydate = new java.sql.Timestamp(new java.util.Date().getTime()); SimpleDateFormat fmt = new SimpleDateFormat(.... //insert statement here.... ps.setTimestamp(1,fmt.format(mydate));
    Both keep submitting the date into Oracle as 16-Feb-2010 12:00:00 AM
    Anyway to get the current date and time? For example if I insert the data at 7:24.04 pm today it should show as 16-Feb-2010 07:24.04 PM in Oracle.

  • How do I insert date and time in my DB?

    Hi!
    I 'm trying to make an application that the user enters some information (name, address...) and I also have a field where the user must enter date and time. But I don't know how to insert it to the database (MS Access). How can I convert a string into a date or time object in order to insert it to the db?
    I am new in programming with databases.
    Thanks in advance.

    Look at the following...
    java.sql.PreparedStatement (particularly the setDate, setTimestamp etc methods)
    and look at
    java.text.SimpleDateFormat

    You might want to use TimeStamp and not java.sql.Date which by definition does not include time.
    You might also want to close PreparedStatement and Connection in your code.

  • Geting and setting date and time in oracle using jdbc

    can u send me a sample snippet which shows me how to set date and time to a column in oracle database where the column datatype is date.
    and also send me the sample code to get the date and time from the above said column
    thanks in advance

    If you want DATE with time normalized to midnight, use java.sql.Date. If you really want time, with hours/minutes/seconds/millis, use java.sql.Timestamp.
    As for the best way to interact with the database, use java.sql.PreparedStatement and its get/setDate and get/setTimestamp methods. Those will escape dates for you properly.
    Look for a JDBC tutorial on-line to see how to do this, or http://www.javaalmanac.com for the java.sql package examples.

    The above test is performed with DataDirect JDBC 3.0 driver. The one uses ? and setString functions take much longer to execute, which supposed to be faster because of precompilation of the statement.
    I have tried different drivers - the one provided by MS, data direct and Sprinta JDBC drivers but all suffer the same problem in different extent. So, I am wondering if MS SQL doesn't support for precompiled statement and no matter what JDBC driver I used I am still having the performance problem. If so, many O/R mappings cannot be used because I believe most of them if not all use the precompiled statement.
    Best regards
    Edmond

    Edmond,
    Most JDBC drivers for MS SQL (and I think this includes all the drivers you tested) use sp_executesql to execute PreparedStatements. This is a pretty good solution as the driver doesn't have to keep any information about the PreparedStatement locally, the server takes care of all the precompiling and caching. And if the statement isn't already precompiled, this is also taken care of transparently by SQL Server.
    The problem with this approach is that all names in the query must be fully qualified. This means that the driver has to parse the query you are submitting and make all names fully qualified (by prepending a db name and schema). This is why creating a PreparedStatement takes so much using these drivers (and why it does so every time you create it, even though it's the same PreparedStatement).
    However, the speed advantage of PreparedStatements only becomes visible if you reuse the statement a lot of times.
    As about why the PreparedStatement with no placeholder is much faster, I think is because of internal optimisations (maybe the statement is run as a plain statement (?) ).
    As a conclusion, if you can reuse the same PreparedStatement, then the performance hit is not so high. Just ignore it. However, if the PreparedStatement is created each time and only used a few times, then you might have a performance issue. In this case I would recommend you try out the jTDS driver ( http://jtds.sourceforge.net ), which uses a completely different approach: temporary stored procedures are created for PreparedStatements. This means that no parsing is done by the driver and PreparedStatement caching is possible (i.e. the next time you are preparing the same statement it will take much less as the previously submitted procedure will be reused).

  • BindVariables and PreparedStatement with sysdate

    Hi
    I,m using PreparedStatements to update the DB (8.1.7) but battle with the sysdate. Here is code snippet:
    stringBuff = new StringBuffer("INSERT INTO so_cs.tc48_event_details ");
    stringBuff.append("(cc48_event_ref_no, ");
    stringBuff.append("cc48_call_cat_code, ");
    stringBuff.append("cc48_call_cat_item_code, ");
    stringBuff.append("cc48_action_number, ");
    stringBuff.append("cc48_user_id, ");
    stringBuff.append("cc48_date_modified, ");
    stringBuff.append("cc48_machine_name, ");
    stringBuff.append("cc48_action_status)");
    stringBuff.append(" VALUES ");
    stringBuff.append("(?,?,?,?,?,sysdate,?,?)");
    int startAct = 1;
    String eveStatus = "C";
    update = stringBuff.toString();
    pstmt4 = conn.prepareStatement(update);
    ((OraclePreparedStatement)pstmt4).setInt(1,eventRefNo);
    ((OraclePreparedStatement)pstmt4).setInt(2,callCatCode);
    ((OraclePreparedStatement)pstmt4).setInt(3,callCatItemCode);
    ((OraclePreparedStatement)pstmt4).setInt(4,startAct);
    ((OraclePreparedStatement)pstmt4).setInt(5,operatorId);
    ((OraclePreparedStatement)pstmt4).setString(6,machineName);
    ((OraclePreparedStatement)pstmt4).setString(7,eveStatus);
    With the value of sysdate in the update string, it generates a new SQL statement in the sga causing a statement parsing for each statement.
    How do I convert a java date into the setDate(int, Date) format to set the value for sysdate with the ? variable bind?
    Tks
    Andre

    Hi Andre,
    It's because of how java handles dates (and times). What we do at my place of work is set the default time zone for the JVM when we first start it up.
    Here is the code I use (with java versions 1.4.1 and 1.3.1):
    TimeZone l_defaultTimeZone = TimeZone.getDefault();
    int l_rawOffset = l_defaultTimeZone.getRawOffset();
    String l_id = l_defaultTimeZone.getID();
    SimpleTimeZone l_simpleTimeZone = new SimpleTimeZone(
                                                   l_rawOffset,
                                                   l_id,
                                                   0,
                                                   0,
                                                   0,
                                                   0,
                                                   0,
                                                   0,
                                                   0,
                                                   0);
    TimeZone.setDefault( l_simpleTimeZone );Hope this helps.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Help converting between Java Dates and SQL Dates

    Hey all,
    I'm working on a JSP to allow a user to enter information about news articles into a mySQL database. I'm using text fields for most of the data, and most of it is transferred correctly when the user hits "Submit." However, I am having a problem with the date field of the mySQL database. Basically I'm trying to retrieve the current date from the JSP page, and then insert this into the date field of the appropriate table when the user hits submit. The problem is that I can't typecast a java.util.Date or even a java.util.Calendar to a java.sql.Date object. I've tried lots of approaches, including creating a new instance of java.util.Calendar, getting all its fields and concatenating them onto the date variable, but this doesn't work.
    Anyone know how I could easily convert between java.util.Date or java.util.Calendar and java.sql.Date?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the help!
    I can correctly display the current date on the page in java.sql.Date format now, but it's still not being inserted into the database correctly. The specific code is as follows:
    java.util.Date dt = new java.util.Date();
    java.sql.Date sqlDate = new java.sql.Date(dt.getTime());
    (As you wrote)
    Then (after connecting to the database etc.):
    PreparedStatement pstmt = con.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO NEWS(NEWSDATE,DAYOFWEEK,AUTHOR,HEADLINE,CLIP,PUBLICATION,LINK,NEWSLOCATION,DATECREATED,DATEMODIFIED,CATEGORY,KEYWORDS,PHOTOURL,PHOTOGRAPHER,AUDIOURL) VALUES (?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?)");
    pstmt.clearParameters();
    pstmt.setString(1,date);
    pstmt.setString(2,dayofweek);
    pstmt.setString(3,author);
    pstmt.setString(4,headline);
    pstmt.setString(5,clip);
    pstmt.setString(6,publication);
    pstmt.setString(7,link);
    pstmt.setString(8,newslocation);
    pstmt.setDate(9,sqlDate);
    pstmt.setString(10,datemodified);
    pstmt.setString(11,category);
    pstmt.setString(12,keywords);
    pstmt.setString(13,photoURL);
    pstmt.setString(14,photographer);
    pstmt.setString(15,audioURL);
    int i = pstmt.executeUpdate();
    pstmt.close();
    All the other fields are retrieved with request.getParameter from text fields. Any idea why the DATECREATED field is being updated to all 0's but the others work fine?
    Thanks again.

  • How to insert the system date  using PreparedStatement

    How do I insert system date(from Orcale database) using
    PreparedStatement. I am aware that that oracle has date
    function 'sysdate' to retrieve the database current date.
    How Do i use that in the following syntax?
    Alertnative 1:
    String inssql =
    "insert into emp (empid, name, dept, updateDate) "+
    " values (?, ?, ?, ?)";
    PreparedStatement pstmt = conn.prepareStatement(inssql);
    pstmt.setInt(1, 123456);
    pstmt.setString(2, "Bougnon Kipre");
    pstmt.setString(3, "Rare Species Depatement" );
    pstmt.setDate(4, sysdate) // if this okay
    pstmt.executeUpdate();
    Alternative 2:
    String inssql =
    "insert into emp (empid, name, dept, updateDate) "+
    " values (?, ?, ?, sysdate)";
    PreparedStatement pstmt = conn.prepareStatement(inssql);
    pstmt.setInt(1, 123456);
    pstmt.setString(2, "Bougnon Kipre");
    pstmt.setString(3, "Rare Species Depatement" );
    pstmt.executeUpdate();

    Hi,
    The second alternative will be the best way.
    Since the alternative 1 won't work. sysdate cannot be accessed
    from java as a variable. Either use alternative two or create a
    java.sql.Date and insert it.

  • For a few months now my ical keeps jumping back and forth.  It's very hard to use my calendar as it doesn't open on today, it may stay a few seconds and then it goes backwards to random dates and forwards.  It doesn't sit still so I can see what I have on

    My iCal is driving me nuts.
    It won't sit still when I am looking at my calender.  I try holding it still with one finger, two fingers and it just moves.  It jumps to random dates and I have no confidence in it any longer.   I use my calendar all the time and this just isn't good enough.
    I have gone into the apple store and they said they hadn't seen that before.  It did it while I was there.  They restored the phone and it didn't make any difference.
    I have turned the calendar off in settings - mail - icloud - deleted and then turned back on again.  It didn't help.
    I put the Google Calendar app on in the hopes I would have a calendar that wouldn't frustrate me and it is so slow in responding, I have deleted it.
    I see online that many others are having the same problem with their iCal.
    It would be great to know the solution.
    Please help

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
    I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
    I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
    I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
    (Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
    Let me know if this works for you!

  • Date and Time in Sender File Adapter Target Directory

    Hi there,
    is there a way of using Date and Time from XI to the Target Directory naming? To use variable substitution some fields of the message had to contain that date and time information, which is not our case.
    For filename you can use "add time stamp" option, but and for target directory?
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi there, Moorthy
    We've tried to write that shell script that you mentioned, but now we have a few doubts on how to make it create the proper directory.
    In the file adapter, my target directory is "/%var1%/%var2%/", where %var1% and %var2% are variable substitutions, referencing data which comes from the payload. Now, I need the shell script to append "/<Year>/<Month>/" in the target directory. But where to archive the script? If it stays in the root directory, than how to make it create "/<Year>/<Month>/" folders inside a directory which is variable (/%var1%/%var2%/)?
    Is there a way of passing %var1% and %var2% as parameters for the shell script?
    Thanks a lot,
    Henrique.

    I want to find the all the records whose mail date(earliest of all with no reply) and no response date and find the earlier one with reponse date and display it as a one row.
    For example
    mail_Date+45 mail_Date in table    earliest date of reponse
    BEGIN_DATE   DEL_DATES           END_DATE                 TRACKING_ID
    17-SEP-04    03-AUG-04 06-          MAR-07                                2257
    Other date and their response date should be shown same way
    The issue is I am not able to retrieve other records in the tables because I am using MIN function.
    here is my query
    SELECT   t.MAIL_DATE + 45 begin_Date,
      del_date.del_dates,
      (SELECT MIN(st2.RESPONSE_DATE) Del_end_date
      FROM sor_tracking st2
      WHERE t.OFFENDER_ID   = st2.OFFENDER_ID
      AND st2.RESPONSE_DATE > del_date.del_dates
      ) End_date,
      t.OFFENDER_ID,
      t.TRACKING_ID
    FROM
      (SELECT MIN(st1.MAIL_DATE) del_dates
        FROM sor_tracking st1
      WHERE st1.OFFENDER_ID  = 4557
      AND st1.RESPONSE_DATE IS NULL
      AND st1.MAIL_DATE      < SysDate - 45
      AND st1.STATUS                  IN ('Letter Returned', 'Mailed')
      AND st1.LETTER_ID               IN (1, 4)
      ) del_date,
      sor_tracking t
    WHERE t.MAIL_DATE   <= del_date.del_dates
    AND (t.OFFENDER_ID   = 4557
         AND t.RESPONSE_DATE IS NULL)
    ORDER BY 1 desc

  • Not able to view data and song folders/files in my ipod

    Hi All,
    I have a 30 GB Video iPod which I have been using since the past 6 odd months. Recently, my iPod was infected with a virus. I managed to clean up the virus but since then I am not able to view the data and song files or folders stored in the iPod. I can only view a hidden folder with the name 'astry' and when I double click on it nothing is visible. I tried some freewares available for data recovery but they just scan the iPod and tell that so many number of files are available. But for retrieving them I will have to buy the software.
    Has anyone faced similar project? Does anyone knows any solution to this problem?
    Thanks,
    Sameer

    Hi Aneesh,
    First be more clear about Aria Application. As Aria, is been related to an hrms part of an organization carrying the people infomation and it has some separate features too.
    But in your prespective i couldnt able to understand what do you want to do with that packeged application.
    Since you want to customize the aria application according to your organization needs means, First collect all your necessary organization information that is needed(like tables etc.). Then substitute those (i.e) your organization tables in the appropriate places in the form of query.
    Please dont use the same Aria people table, as the Oracle may framed according to their employee information. Nearly Aria application has 200 supporting objects. If you want to use the same objects means whether u r going to creating nearly 200 supporting objects..It is not worth at all.
    Please be more clear in your requirement that, what you are doing, and then raise the question. Be more prepared with your tables along with datas, and let give your reply once you were been prepared with your organization details table.
    As there are more peoples in the forums to help you other than me.
    Brgds,
