Date Parameters in the 2008 viewer (vs2005) are not working, It will not even prompt for them unless i throw another parameter in the report. And when I do put them in there it ignors them. Am I doing something wrong or is this a MAJOR bug in the viewer?

Well after working on this I discovered it is the upgrade which does not upgrade all the references. I removed the viewer then added it and it worked...

Hmmm this is not just Date parameters no Parameters will work in a record select, when added through the viewer, making the viewer Useless for running reports that require user parameters. Do the developers even test things before they release them here -
Cascading Dynamic Parameters Do Not Work In Crystal Viewer 2008?
I have generated a report with Crystal Reports 2008 that uses a dynamic cascading parameter. I work in waste management and the report I create in Crystal is used as a "template" with the tonnages collected from all of our customers. Our less technically minded employees can then open this report with Crystal Reports Viewer 2008, use the drop down menus to select only the customer they need a report for and then export this to PDF for delivery.
The report as designed works perfectly in Crystal Reports, but the parameter does not work in Crystal Viewer.
Some of our customers have more than one physical location that we service. The cascading dynamic parameter in my report allows you to select the customer name, and then it only shows the locations linked to that customer, so the end user can select only the relevant location(s) for the report. The cascading parameter is dynamic and allows multiple selections, and is linked to a Saved Data formula. The report is saved with the data.
When the report is opened in Viewer, one of two things happens. If the report is saved in Crystal Reports and a specific customer/location is selected, then ONLY those selected customer/locations are available in the Viewer. If ALL the customers/locations are selected in Crystal Reports and saved, then in the Viewer they are all available, but selecting one customer does NOT narrow down the locations (i.e. it does not "cascade") and instead ALL of the locations are available even if they do not apply to the customer.
If I use a single dynamic parameter and select ALL of the customers (for example), then when this is opened in Crystal Viewer all of the customers are available from the parameters drop down and the report works fine. As soon as this is tried with a cascading parameter however, Crystal Viewer falls down.
Does anyone know of a workaround to this or if there is something I am doing wrong?I am using the free Crystal Report 2008 Viewer along with designing reports with Crytal Reports ver 12.3. With a test file from SAP called "Interactive Parameters", the parameter feature works to refresh the report. The parameters that are supplied in the sample report work with Viewer. They show up under the parameter list in the parameter side panel in Viewer and are available to make record selections. When I add a parameter to the sample report in Crystal 2008 and then view the report in Viewer, my parameters are unavalable for record selection while the original parameters remain available. Futher, my parameters are displayed under a section called "Current Data Set" in the Parameter side panel, while the selectable parameters are displayed under the "Parameter" section in the parameter side panel. There must be a setting that is treating the parameters I create differently form the parameters created in the original sample report. Any help would be appreciated.

Database query using report parameters in Report Viewer 2008 and CR-XI
Hi - I have written a report for in-house use on an Access database. The report uses parameters to filter the record selection for reporting. The report operates fine in Crystal XI, but in Crystal Report Viewer 2008, the parameters are not shown and appear to be inaccessible. Is there a way to query the database in CRV2008, as opposed to simply showing the data that was saved from CR-XI in the report? Would I have to use the Crystal Server to do this? Is there a no-cost solution that I could use instead of CRV2008 for such functionality?

As noted CRV is for reports with saved data only, no prompting allowed. I'll move this post to the OnDemand forums, possibly they have suggestions a s work around.
You should call our Sales team and describe your situation, possibly they have a low cost solution for you.
If you have a .NET or Java developer available you could always write and host your own WEB app that would be simple to use and should not take to much to do.
We have samples that you could use so most of the work is done for you.

Crystal Reports/BusinessObjects Enterprise ( BOE ) Business Views can only be created using the BV build which comes with BOE and installed using the Work Station installer for BOE. for both XI and 2008.
You cannot mix these two versions on the same PC not can one talk to the other, the BV designer must match the same version as BOE. XI ( version 11.0 ) is no longer available but if you mean XI R2 ( version 11.5 ) then it still is.
It's not completely clear which Business View you are referring to? BOE has a Business View Designer so not sure if this is just a naming problem or not? If you are referring to the BOE Business View Designer then the above is true. If your reference is about some other BV designer or data source then you need to clarify.

I have two date parameters in my report viewer (Start and End dates). When the user clicks the "Apply" button in the parameter panel is there any way to display a dialog box if the Start date is after the End date?
I don't see any event for the "Apply" button, just the "Refresh" button (the ReportRefresh event).I actually got a hack job workaround to get this to work without having to write my own parameter panel or edit any of my 150+ reports:
At the form load I can loop through the controls in the crystal viewer until I find the toolbar that holds the "Apply" button and add an event handler to it's ButtonClick event.
I am using VB.NET:

Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 and parameter fields
Hello,
I saw this product on the main Crystal Reports site this afternoon and decided to download it to try it out. I have a number of users who would benefit from being able to preview their report results prior to actually running the report. This seems like the perfect product. I have a large number of Crystal Reports which were created in Crystal version XI. I also downloaded the free 30 day version of Crystal Reports 2008 yesterday to see what new features are there.
While testing Crystal Reports Viewer, I tried to run one of my reports which needs a parameter to run properly (account number). This type of parameter is needed for probably 98% of this business' reports.
The problem: Crystal Reports Viewer does not prompt me to input the parameter. In my actual Crystal Report, I had the box "Save Data with Report' left unchecked, as the account number frequently changes. However, if that box is left unchecked, Crystal Reports Viewer will give me the error message "No Saved Data. This report file does not contain saved data and cannot be viewed. To get data into the report, please open and re-save it in the Crystal Reports designer application with the "Save Data with Report" option selected."
Thinking that possibly it was the version of Crystal Reports in which the report was created (XI), I downloaded the free trial of Crystal 2008 and created a very simple test report with one parameter for account number where the account number is retrieved from our database. And I am having the same trouble.
The "Help" section of Crystal Reports Viewer tells me that I can select my parameters in the parameter panel. I do not see anything in my parameter panel other than the words "Current Data Set Last refreshed: 04/12/10 2:58 PM". The help tells me that I can "select the parameter directly in this panel by entering a new value", but there is no option to do so.
Any help would be appreciated.

NoelWhat I've learned is that I was originally using Crystal Viewer XI and upon opening it I received a message indicating there was an update.
I ran the update which put me on Crystal Viewer 2008.
Since then I have not been able to refresh my screen to bring up the parameters.

Error when using Date Parameters...
Hi everybody,
I have a little issue.
Ever since I upgraded my CRXI R2 to SP4 I've had a little problem using date parameters.
The little calendar icon next to the parameter field no longer works.
When I click it I get the following error message:

I'm thinking this is probable a quick registry fix, but I have no idea where to start looking.

JasonIt seems you are having a scripting issue.
Go onto the Internet explorer settings (internet options under control panel)
click on security and then click on Internet and then Custom tab.
Scroll right down where it says Scripting and enable it.
That should resolve the issue.

I am facing problem while binding multiple parameters with different data types in View Object query. For example suppose I have following query in my view object.

I am able to pass the Bind variables of Array type for : 0 , using Steve's ArrayOfStringDomain example. (ArrayOfStringDomain) .
But after passing value to second bind parameter ie.. :1 .
I am getting the error as follows.

java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected - got CHAR.
I tried to set
setWhereClauseParam(1,11); // 11 is Number

But of no use , Please let me know if any thing missing form me or have any another solutions. Also please provide me any example if have.

but when using non-Oracle named parameter binding styles as you've done (ie. , :1), regardless of what number you give each bind variable, they are sequenced 0, 1, 2 etc. As such your bind variable :1 is the 0th parameter, and your bind variable is the 1st parameter.Your statment is correct.
:1 i used was actually on 0th position and :0 was on 1 position. Like you said in sequence 0,1,2 etc. Now i get the answer and i corrected My mistake by assigning right values to right binding variable. and problem just solve.

How to use CR Viewer 2008 to open a report created in CR 2008?
I have CR Developer 2008 version 12.0.0.683 that I am using to create a report whose data source is through the iHistorian OLE DB connector. I can preview the report in the Developer, but as soon as I use Crystal Reports viewer 2008 (12.2.0.r325)to open the report, I get the following error: "An error occured trying to load the report: The field size is not allowed to be negative:
"-1".-----Error code:-2147215356 Error code n".
CR viewer 2008 is able to open the samples reports, but not the report I create.

I am not using a .NET application. I not using Visual Basic either. I just have Proficy Historian 3.1 collecting data from an iFix tag, and i am reading that data into CR 2008 designer.
I think that the viewer is unable some how to connect to my server with the iHistorian OLE DB. I tried adding the server in the viewer "server configuration" but no luck. I was able to view the report I created on crystalreports.com. So i believe that the problem is with Crystal reports viewer 2008 connecting to my data source server.

How can I get Crystal Report Viewer 2008 to view boe xi r2 sp4 rpts
we're getting an error when trying to open a report generated out of boe xi r2 sp4....the report does have "save data" with report.... I send to myself via email, save the rpt but when I try to open on a machine with viewer installed....it tries and gets to the end and presents an 'unexpected error' with detail:

Error with date parameters - Object expected, res://ieframe.dll/syntax.htm
I am porting a report done in CR X to CR 2008, so I can distribute it to a third party. When I preview it and enter my date parameters, I get and address not found html page. When I close this page, I get an error stating that an object was expected, line 1, char 1, code 0, URL res://ieframe.dll/syntax.htm.
The report worked great in CR X.start removing all parts to see what needs to be fixed up

I have many reports that allow the user to specifiy a starting and ending date range. I would like the reports to default to all dates. I can do this by defaulting the start date to "01-01-2000" and the end date to "12-31-2099", but then the calendar tool is useless since there is no TODAY button on the calendar tool and it picks up the default date, i.e., the users will have to do a lot of scrolling through the calendar tool.
The other way is to make the starting and ending date parameters strings and use values like Today, This Week, This Month,.... and reolve them in the record selection formula. This would be nice, but then if the user wants a specific date range, they don't have the calendar tool to use.
Is there a way to take advange of the user-friendliness of string values and still have the calendar tool to use?Post Author: tegage

I had done exactly what you described - I had a string parameter for Today, This Week, etc and a set of date parameters - Starting and Ending Date. But, in order to use the Starting and Ending dates in a formula, I had to provide them a default value - leaving them blank causes the record selection formula to explode. The issue here is that the calendar tool picks up the default value instead of showing today's date.
I did more web surfing and found the answer on the Business Objects web site. The solution let me do what you suggested AND keep the Starting and Ending date parameters as Date types and defaulted to blank by making them optional parameters.
From the Business Objects web site (why isn't this stuff in the user's guide?):

3. Request for an 'ALL' value.
Both of requirements 2 and 3 are met with the new optional parameter feature of CR 2008. When a parameter is flagged as 'optional', the report can execute without that value being set. The trick here is that any formula that attempts to reference an optional parameters that doesn't have a value set will return an error. So we've introduced the new HasValue() function which allows you to check and see if the parameter has a value.
This is really powerful, because now you can reference your parameters indirectly through another formula (or custom function) that checks if the parameter has a value or not. If it does, then the formula returns the parameter value. If it doesn't, then it can return whatever default value you wish. So if you want the default to be the day before, or last Friday, then you can code that logic into your formula that uses HasValue to check if the parameter has a value set or not.
Optional parameters were also intended to solve the 'All' problem. Basically, you want a parameter to participate in a record selection formula only if it has a value. If it doesn't, then you want that filter to be disabled. By using optional parameters and HasValue() in your record selection (and new saved data section) formulas, you can include conditions in your filter only if the parameters in those conditions have a value. -

for having from-date & to-date parameters in ur report its better to create 2 parameters with the same names & define a condition using "between" option along with those parameters in discoverer itself.
coming to comparison of 2 years data like "this year & last year" you should mention these in ur query itself like below:

Passing date parameters to a custom folder
Is there any simple way to pass date parmeters to a custom folder?
I think I recognize a question very similar to this recently.
And it's the same situation, in that - what do you mean by passing a date?
I understand it to mean that you want a user - at run time - to enter a date or date range that will then return only that data from a custom folder.
1. You could have all data returned (ie: no date conditions applied to the SQL) and then filter using the Disco tool (ie: plus, viewer, desktop).
2. If you want to 'pass' those date parameters into the actual folder in the EUL, then there is a method that you can use using functions you write.
3. Or you could code the actual database SQL view with some kind of hard-coded date parameters (ie: SYSDATE - 30), etc.
