Date parsing problem inside java

Hi,
I'm passing a date string in format yyyy-MM-dd and trying to convert into a date value using below code by parsing the string. But, interestingly the output that i'm getting from dateVal is coming as - Tue Apr 17 00:00:00 GMT 2012 instead of 2012-04-17
Not able to understand why so.
String s1 = "2012-04-17";
SimpleDateFormat outFmt = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd");
Date dateVal = outFmt.parse(s1);
Please help.
Regards,
prodyut

  • Date Parse Problem

    I am looking to parse a string to a date object. I appreciate if someone can provide me a hint on this.
    Below is the code:
    String dateInStr = "Mon Mar 03 00:00:00 PST 2008";
    try{
       DateFormat dateFormat = DateFormat.getDateInstance();
       Date dateObj = dateFormat.parse(dateInStr);
    }catch (java.text.ParseException pEx) {
       pEx.printStackTrace();
    }When I execute the above code, it gives me the following exception:

    Hmmm... I've got this to work using SimpleDateFormat instead of DateFormat.
    SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("EEE MMM dd HH:mm:ss zzz yyyy");
    Date dateObj = dateFormat.parse(dateInStr);
    It's still a good idea to use the DateFormat interface, even if this is "correct".
    I'd also recommend setting lenient to false. That way "31-Feb-2008" will throw an exception.
    DateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("EEE MMM dd HH:mm:ss zzz yyyy");
    dateFormat.setLenient(false);
    Date dateObj = dateFormat.parse(dateInStr);The reason your original code didn't work is the default instance doesn't assume the parse string that you're using.

  • Date parsing problem

    Hello!
    I am trying to parse stock-csv data from finance.yahoo.com.
    One line looks like this one:
    13-May-05,95.00,96.30,94.10,96.19,34627,87.50
    I extracted the date "13-May-05" and now I want to parse it.
    I tried:
    x = "13-May-05";
    - DateFormat df = DateFormat.getDateInstance(DateFormat.MEDIUM,Locale.US);
    df.parse(x);
    - DateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("d-MMM-yy");
    df.parse(x);
    Both things did not work ("Unparseable date: "13-May-05"").
    Can someone see what's wrong?
    Thank you,

    yeah,, true, but there also seem to be some here
    otherwise (many times I found a better solution on my
    own,, but I usually go late at night.) At any rate,
    the parsing is basically what I said, only my system
    is-if it don't work, hard code it. It's stupidity at
    its finest, and total lack of confidence.
    hey-you guys really should look into what I posted on
    the 'skins' post--you would find it interesting-and
    also give you insight into finding out about java and
    ms-and why ms actually hates java-including why they
    made their own vm for java, and why they developed a
    java-like VB language, called VJ++, for their
    VisualStudio, in an attempt to drive java programmers
    from here to there. (unsuccessfully so far)Dude, I have no idea what you're saying, but pass me the bong and the Doritos.

  • Problem with Java Dates and UPDATE for SQL2000

    I am having problems with the date formats for Java. I am trying to put the current date time into a SQL table, here it the code I am using:
    var Today = new Date()
    var conn = Server.CreateObject( "ADODB.Connection" )
    conn.Open( "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Server=(local);Database=BillTracking;UID=sa;PWD=;")
    var sql = "UPDATE BillAssignments SET DatePosted = " + Today + " WHERE AssignmentID = '" + Request.QueryString("AssignmentID") + "'"
    var rs = conn.execute(sql)
    I keep getting different errors and I have been unable to find a solution yet. I know that I need to change the date format from the Java standard to the one that SQL likes.
    Help....

    Please tell us where the Java part of this comes in. I see that you are using JavaScript to load up data via an ADO connection (presumably on an IIS platform) - but I do not see where you are using Java

  • How to parse XML to Java object... please help really stuck

    **** Could you help me to write a simple parser to parse my DTD and XML to Java object, and how can I use those objects... sorry if the problem is too basic, I am a beginner and very stuck... I am very confuse with SAXParserFactory, SAXParser, ParserAdapter and DOM has its own Factory and Parser, so confuse...
    Thank you for your help, Yo

    Hi, Yo,
    Thank you very much for your help. And I Wish you are there...I'm. And I plan to stay - It's sunny and warm here in Honolulu and the waves are up :)
    A bit more question for dear people:
    In the notes, it's mainly focus on JAXB,
    1. Is that mean JAXB is most popular parser for
    parsing XML into Java object? With me, definitely. There are essentially 3 technologies that allow you to parse XML documents:
    1) "Callbacks" (e.g. SAX in JAXP): You write a class that overrides 3 methods that will be called i) whenever the parser encounters a start tag, ii) an end tag, or iii) PCDATA. Drawback: You have to figure out where the heck in the document hierarchy you are when such a callback happens, because the same method is called on EACH start tag and similarly for the end tag and the PCDATA. You have to create the objects and put them into your own data structure - it's very tedious, but you have complete control. (Well, more or less.)
    2) "Tree" (e.g. DOM in JAXP, or it's better cousin JDOM): You call a parser that in one swoop creates an entire hierarchy that corresponds to the XML document. You don't get called on each tag as with SAX, you just get the root of the resulting tree. Drawback: All the nodes in the tree have the same type! You probably want to know which tags are in the document, don't you? Well, you'll have to traverse the tree and ask each node: What tag do you represent? And what are your attributes? (You get only strings in response even though your attributes often represent numbers.) Unless you want to display the tree - that's a nice application, you can do it as a tree model for JTree -, or otherwise don't care about the individual tags, DOM is not of much help, because you have to keep track where in the tree you are while you traverse it.
    3) Enter JAXB (or Castor, or ...): You give it a grammar of the XML documents you want to parse, or "unmarshall" as the fashion dictates to call it. (Actually the name isn't that bad, because "parsing" focuses on the input text while "unmarshalling" focuses on the objects you get, even though I'd reason that it should be marshalling that converts into objects and unmarshalling that converts objects to something else, and not vice versa but that's just my opinion.) The JAXB compiler creates a bunch of source files each with one (or now more) class(es) (and now interfaces) that correspond to the elements/tags of your grammar. (Now "compiler" is a true jevel of a misnomer, try to explain to students that after they run the "compiler", they still need to compile the sources the "compiler" generated with the real Java compiler!). Ok, you've got these sources compiled. Now you call one single method, unmarshall() and as a result you get the root node of the hierarchy that corresponds to the XML document. Sounds like DOM, but it's much better - the objects in the resulting tree don't have all the same type, but their type depends on the tag they represent. E.g if there is the tag <ball-game> then there will be an object of type myPackage.BallGame in your data structure. It gets better, if there is <score> inside <ball-game> and you have an object ballGame (of type BallGame) that you can simply call ballGame.getScore() and you get an object of type myPackage.Score. In other words, the child tags become properties of the parent object. Even better, the attributes become properties, too, so as far as your program is concerned there is no difference whether the property value was originally a tag or an attribute. On top of that, you can tell in your schema that the property has an int value - or another primitive type (that's like that in 1.0, in the early release you'll have to do it in the additional xjs file). So this is a very natural way to explore the data structure of the XML document. Of course there are drawbacks, but they are minor: daunting complexity and, as a consequence, very steep learning curve, documentation that leaves much to reader's phantasy - read trial and error - (the user's guide is too simplicistic and the examples too primitive, e.g. they don't even tell you how to make a schema where a tag has only attributes) and reference manual that has ~200 pages full of technicalities and you have to look with magnifying glas for the really usefull stuff, huge number of generated classes, some of which you may not need at all (and in 1.0 the number has doubled because each class has an accompanying interface), etc., etc. But overall, all that pales compared to the drastically improved efficiency of the programmer's efforts, i.e. your time. The time you'll spend learning the intricacies is well spent, you'll learn it once and then it will shorten your programming time all the time you use it. It's like C and Java, Java is order of magnitude more complex, but you'd probably never be sorry you gave up C.
    Of course the above essay leaves out lots and lots of detail, but I think that it touches the most important points.
    A word about JAXB 1.0 vs. Early Release (EA) version. If you have time, definitively learn 1.0, they are quite different and the main advantage is that the schema combines all the info that you had to formulate in the DTD and in the xjs file when using the EA version. I suggested EA was because you had a DTD already, but in retrospect, you better start from scratch with 1.0. The concepts in 1.0 are here to stay and once your surmounted the learning curve, you'll be glad that you don't have to switch concepts.
    When parser job is done,
    what kind of Java Object we will get? (String,
    InputStream or ...)See above, typically it's an object whose type is defined as a class (and interface in 1.0) within the sources that JABX generates. Or it can be a String or one of the primitive types - you tell the "compiler" in the schema (xjs file in EA) what you want!
    2. If we want to use JAXB, we have to contain a
    XJS-file? Something like:In EA, yes. In 1.0 no - it's all in the schema.
    I am very new to XML, is there any simpler way to get
    around them? It has already take me 4 days to find a
    simple parser which give it XML and DTD, then return
    to me Java objects ... I mean if that kind of parser
    exists....It'll take you probably magnitude longer that that to get really familiar with JAXB, but believe me it's worth it. You'll save countless days if not weeks once you'll start developing serious software with it. How long did it take you to learn Java and it's main APIs? You'll either invest the time learning how to use the software others have written, or you invest it writing it yourself. I'll take the former any time. But it's only my opinion...

  • Date parsing with Arabic Locale returning null

    Hi all,
    We are encountering a strange problem with Java SimpleDateFormat class when the Locale is set to Arabic.Here is the code.
    Calendar cal = null;
    java.util.Date dt = null;
    Locale locale = new Locale("ar","SA");
    System.out.println(locale.getDisplayCountry());
    System.out.println(locale.getDisplayLanguage());
    Locale.setDefault(locale) ;
    SimpleDateFormat dateFmt = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm");
    ParsePosition parsePos = new ParsePosition(0);
    String tzID = "PST";
    dt = dateFmt.parse("1999-01-01 00:00:00.0"+ " " + tzID, parsePos);
    System.out.println("TimeZoneID is"+tzID);
    System.out.println("Date is"+dt);
    here we get dt as null.Can any one plz give me a solution for this.
    Thanx in advance.
    Regards,
    Ashok

    In the pattern "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm" the part "-" seems not to be parsed. Did you search the Bug Database?
    (Try using the following modified version of the code to see where the parsing error occurs.)
    Calendar cal = null;
    java.util.Date dt = null;
    Locale locale = new Locale("ar","SA");
    System.out.println(locale.getDisplayCountry());
    System.out.println(locale.getDisplayLanguage());
    Locale.setDefault(locale) ;
    SimpleDateFormat dateFmt = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm");
    ParsePosition parsePos = new ParsePosition(0);
    String tzID = "PST";
    dt = dateFmt.parse("2003-02-20 00:00", parsePos);
    if (parsePos.getErrorIndex()==-1){
    System.out.println("TimeZoneID is "+tzID);
    System.out.println("Date is "+dt);
    }else{
      System.out.print("Parsing Error at ");// in this case error occurs at 5, i.e., the place immediately after the first appearance of '-'.
      System.out.println(String.valueOf(parsePos.getErrorIndex()));
    }

  • Problem with java swing button and loop

    Problem with java swing button and loop
    Im using VAJ 4.0. and Im doing normal GUI application. I have next problem.
    I have in the same class two jswing buttons named start (ivjGStart) and stop (ivjGStop) and private static int field named Status where initial value is 0. This buttons should work something like this:
    When I click on start button it must do next:
    Start button must set disenabled and Stop button must set enabled and selected. Field status is set to 1, because this is a condition in next procedure in some loop. And then procedure named IzvajajNeprekinjeno() is invoked.
    And when I click on stop button it must do next:
    Start button must set enabled and selected and Stop button must set disenabled.
    Field status is set to 0.
    This works everything fine without loop do .. while inside the procedure IzvajajNeprekinjeno(). But when used this loop the start button all the time stay (like) pressed. And this means that a cant stop my loop.
    There is java code, so you can get better picture:
    /** start button */
    public void gStart_ActionEvents() {
    try {
    ivjGStart.setEnabled(false);
    ivjGStop.setEnabled(true);
    ivjGStop.setSelected(true);
    getJTextPane1().setText("Program is running ...");
    Status = 1;
    } catch (Exception e) {}
    /** stop button */
    public void gStop_ActionEvents() {
    try {
    ivjGStart.setEnabled(true);
    ivjGStart.setSelected(true);
    ivjGStop.setEnabled(false);
    getJTextPane1().setText("Program is NOT running ...");
    Status = 0;
    } catch (Exception e) {
    /** procedure IzvajajNeprekinjeno() */
    public void IzvajajNeprekinjeno() {  //RunLoop
    try {
    int zamik = 2000; //delay
    do {
    Thread.sleep(zamik);
    PreberiDat(); //procedure
    } while (Status == 1);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    So, I'm asking what I have to do, that start button will not all the time stay pressed? Or some other aspect of solving this problem.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Tomi

    This is a multi thread problem. When you start the gui, it is running in one thread. Lets call that GUI_Thread so we know what we are talking about.
    Since java is task-based this will happen if you do like this:
    1. Button "Start" is pressed. Thread running: GUI_Thread
    2. Event gStart_ActionEvents() called. Thread running: GUI_Thread
    3. Method IzvajajNeprekinjeno() called. Thread running: GUI_Thread
    4. Sleep in method IzvajajNeprekinjeno() on thread GUI_Thread
    5. Call PreberiDat(). Thread running: GUI_Thread
    6. Check status. If == 1, go tho 4. Thread running: GUI_Thread.
    Since the method IzvajajNeprekinjeno() (what does that mean?) and the GUI is running in the same thread and the event that the Start button has thrown isn't done yet, the program will go on in the IzvajajNeprekinjeno() method forever and never let you press the Stop-button.
    What you have to do is do put either the GUI in a thread of its own or start a new thread that will do the task of the IzvajajNeprekinjeno() method.
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/index.html
    This tutorial explains how to build a multi threaded gui.

  • I have a problem with Java and an e-procurement system integrating

    I use an e-procurement system at work and yesterday I could not get my parts list from the suppliers web site to display in our in-house eprocurment finance package.
    There is not a problem with the finance package. There is not a problem with the suppliers web site. I have verified both of these by other colleagues being able to complete what I am trying to do.
    The difference between my version of Firefox and my colleagues' is that I am on version 6.0.1 and they are on 6.0.
    I have had problems with Java not displaying certain animations on the suppliers web site but, my colleague does not and I am suspicious that this is the problem. Can anyone verify this please and what can I do about it. My Java updates are up-to-date as of yesterday and are automatic.
    Thanks.

    I was quite amazed I never got a reply to this, in the past people here have been helpful. In any case I was finally able to enter this website on the exceptions list in the Java panel, and I believe it is okay  now.

  • Date parse error while importing users from OIM to OIA (SRM 5.0.3)

    Hi All,
    Env Details:
    OIA (SRM 5.0.3), Weblogic and Oracle 10g DB
    We have integrated OIM to OIA with extended attributes mapping by modifying iam-context.xml file to load users. Its done successfully. But when we map "Date" related attribute, its giving "Date Parsing error" and its not loading the users.
    We have tried loading users using flatFile mechanism, its also giving same result.
    Please suggest me. Thanks in Advance !!!
    Regards,
    Ravi G.

    Hi,
    Its a problem with OOB's OIMIAMSolution.class file, which is called while importing users from OIM. It used DateParse () conversion method only for all attributes which OIA attributes' name is ends with "Date". It defined, the conversion of date from (yyyy-MM-dd). So its expecting the input value should be in defined format(yyyy-MM-dd), if not, it gives a parse error.
    We found work around for this as follows,
    We have used other related OIA attribute which name ends other than "Date" string.
    Thanks,
    Ravi G.

  • Jar files download problems in Java Webstart with JRE 1.6

    We have encountered a few problems in Java Webstart with JRE 1.6
    In JRE 1.5, the jar files are getting downloaded onto the client
    machine with it's original names.
    Example :
    Server File Name : acm.jar
    Client File Name : RMacm.jar
    But in JRE 1.6, the jar files are getting downloaded with improper file names.
    Example :
    Server File Name : acm.jar
    Client File Name : 4fb074cc-66fc7407
    Moreover the path itself seems to be invalid.
    Example Path :
    JRE 1.5 path:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application
    Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javaws\https\D17.16.23.11\P443\DMtest\DMwebStart
    JRE 1.6 path:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application
    Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\12
    Due to this, we are facing Classpath problems.
    What changes do we have to make to the code, for Java
    Webstart to work ?
    We are using JBoss 4.0.4 and JDK 1.5 in the Server
    On the client machine, we have IE 6 and JRE 1.6.01
    Help would be appreciated.

  • Problems with Java SE6

    Hi. My system is updated (Mac OS X version 10.6.8) but I can not use Java.
    I have enabled "applet plug-in...." in Java preferences - and have seen this
    message on the Java site:
    Java for Mac
    Check your version of Mac OS X. » How do I find my Mac OS X version?
    Mac OS X Version 10.6 and below
    Use Software Update available on the Apple menu to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java 6 for your Mac. Java 7 is not supported by these older versions of Mac OS X. If you have problems with Java 6, contact Apple Technical Support. Java.com does not provide a download for these systems.
    Mac OS X Version 10.7.3 (Lion) or newer
    Java 7 can run on your Mac. Java 7 requires an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion) or later and administrator privileges for installation.
    » Information about installing and using Java 7 on Mac
    - so must I contact Apple technical support - Java does not supply download for my system?  Am very confused.
    Hope somebody can help

    Apple barred Java from running on Macs in order to safeguard users by blocking Java 7 Update 11 and adding it to the banned list in XProtect.
    This was the second time in two weeks that Apple had blocked Oracle's code from running on Macs. The threat was so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had recommended that all Java 7 users disable or uninstall the software until a patch was issued. This time Java is blocked through Apple's XProtect anti-malware feature.
    Java has come under fire as the means by which hackers have been able to gain control of computers. In April 2012 more than 600,000 Macs were reported to have been infected with a Flashback Trojan horse that was being installed on people's computers with the help of Java exploits. Then in August Macs were again at risk due to a flaw in Java, this time around, there was good news for Mac users: Thanks to changes Apple has made, most of us were safe from the threat.
    Unwilling to leave its customers open to potential threats Apple decided it's safer to block Java entirely.
    In order to block older versions of Flash, Apple has updated its "Xprotect.plist" file so that any versions that come before the current one (version 11.6.602.171) cannot be used on a Mac. Users who have older versions of Flash installed will be greeted with an alert that says "Blocked plug-in," and Safari will prompt the user to update to a newer version.
    Macs running OS X Snow Leopard and beyond are affected.
    UPDATE for those running Lion or Mountain Lion:
    Oracle on Friday February 1 released a new version reportedly addressing vulnerabilities seen with the last build.
    Apple disabled Java 7 through the OS X XProtect anti-malware system, requiring users to have at least version "1.7.0_10-b19" installed on their Macs. The release dated February 1 carries the designation "1.7.0_13-b20," meeting Apple's requirements.
    Oracle "strongly recommends" applying the CPU fixes as soon as possible, saying that the latest Critical Patch Update contains 50 new security fixes across all Jave SE products.
    Update for Snow Leopard users:
    Apple issued update 12 for Java for OS 10.6:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
    Note:  On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.
    If, after installing Java for OS X 2013-002 and the latest version of Java 7 from Oracle, you want to disable Java 7 and re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 web plug-in and Web Start functionality, follow these steps:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?viewlocale=en_US
    Further update:
    Apple issued this Java related security update No. 13 on February 19:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5666
    and Update No. 14 on March 4:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5677
    You should also read this:
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT5672
    The standard recommendation is for users to turn off Java except when they have to use it on known and trusted websites (like their bank). Javascript, which is unrelated despite the name, can be left on.

  • Problems with Java DOM Mapping

    Hi Experts,
    as part of my diploma-thesis I have to write a java DOM-Mapping, which mapps the following incoming message:
    <mt_MappingOUT>
    <set>
    <set_Element_01>...</set_Element_01>
    <set_Element_02>... </set_Element_02>
    <set_Element_03>... </set_Element_02>
    <set_Element_10>  </set_Element_10>
    </set>
    </mt_MappingOUT>
    to the following outgoinig message:
    <mt_MappingIN>
    <TABLE>
    <item>
    <item_FIELD_01>  </item_FIELD_01>
    <item_FIELD_10>  <item_FIELD_10>
    <i/tem>
    </TABLE>
    </mt_MappingIN>
    I am not a very experienced Java-Developer. You can see my code down there, which I tried to implement according to some bloggs; unfortunately the result is not what I want to have

  • How to read XKOMV-EDATU, XKOMV-KBETR fields inside java

    How do get the
    XKOMV-EDATU date and pass it to ItemUserExit.java for database read and filtering.
    a. The code in ItemUserExit has to filter ZCPI2-ZSPMON for this date XKOMV-EDATU, the delivery date.
    This does not work. prItem.getPricingTimestamp returns the current date always, NOT delivery date.
    What is the method call that will grab this date.?
    b. How do I have to pass this XKOMV-EDATU date to ItemUserExit.java for database read / filtering.
    c. The field XKOMV-KBETR has to be read based on the KSCHL = ‘ZCP1’ and / or KSCHL =’PR00’.
    These are abap structures. But I am not sure how to read this value inside java.
    How would I extract the structure XKOMV-KBETR(the rate) for KBETR(conditionType)=’PR00’ .
    Please note that I get an error mandatory condition PR00 is missing. (see attached error message ).
    d. “CPIW_A” set up in ItemUserExit.java :: itemUserExitAccess.addItemAttributeBinding("CPIW_A", ZVALUE_CPIW_A );
    is NOT available at PricingUserExits.java with the code:
    prItem.getItemAttributeBinding("CPIW_A") ,
    though they are registered in the method
    “determineRelevantAttributesForValueFormula” as per the help html pages.
    I had attached the code.
    Can you scan thru the code and give feedback.
    Can I call you in the morning.
    Thanks.
    TK
    PS:
    I get an error “PR00” mandatory condition is missing from the log file.

    Java != javascript.
    You can not call java directly from javascript.
    The lifecycle:
    Request received
    Java/JSP runs produces an HTML page
    Java stops running
    Javascript runs on page when page is loaded.
    The only way to call java code again is to submit a request and get the result back in a response. Traditionally the response is a new JSP page to replace the old one.
    Using AJAX the response can be just information that you then alter the current page with.
    The first example given by skp71 will probably NOT be what you are after. The java code is executed when you load the page, NOT when you push the button which is most probably what you are after.
    AJAX is a solution, as is loading a new page.
