Dates for Unions

Hello All,
Union is applied between two quries.
Example is as shown below
select hiredate-sysdate from scott.emp
union
select hiredate from scott.emp
I am getting error as Expression must have same data type. Can any one explain why

When you subtract dates, a NUMBER datatype will be the result, it's no longer a date anymore....
So, your union will not work, unless you apply TO_CHAR:
SQL> select sysdate - (sysdate-3) from dual
2 union all
3 select sysdate from dual;
select sysdate - (sysdate-3) from dual
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01790: expression must have same datatype as corresponding expression
SQL> select to_char(sysdate - (sysdate-3)) from dual
2 union all
3 select to_char(sysdate, 'dd-mm-yyyy') from dual;
TO_CHAR(SYSDATE-(SYSDATE-3))

Data Federator: Unioning Multiple Tables into single view possible?

Hi,
I have three different databases with tables containing a portion of the same kind of data and I want to union the three different tables together in Data Federator to present a single logical view that has the complete set of data. Is this possible in Data Federator? How would I go about doing that?
Note: I do not have keys to join the tables together on since it's not simply extending the data in one table with additional data in another table and doing an inner join on a unique key. Instead, for example, there's a customer table for Finance, a customer table for Operations and a customer table for Sales and they all contain the same columns (with maybe slightly different names) and same type of data. I want to effectively union Finance, Operations and Sales together in a federated/virtualized view so applications can just query from that view to get all the customers from the three different databases.
I have been unable to do this so far since Data Federator requires each table in a mapping to have a relationship with the other tables in the mapping.

I figured out the original question using one mapping for each table but have a new question now.
Is it possible for an application to use the combined view from Data Federator to write back into the databases?
e.g. have an application use the target table in Data Federator and view the results, and based on that update the data in the underlying database that provides the data for the target table?

Creating test data for a problem

Hi,
I've been using this forum for a few months and it has been extremely useful. The problem is that I actually have no idea how to create test data for a specific problem. I've tried googling but to no avail. I have had other users create test data for some of my problems using a 'WITH' statement but it would be great if someone could explain the logic behind it and how to approach a specific problem where in the query I use multiple tables.
I know it's probably a stupid question and I'm relatively new to sql but it would help a lot if I understood the process.

Navigation is not working for union criteria???

I have columns let say product1,product2,prodcut3,current_value1,cvl2,cvl3....as different columns
I want to get the output as
Product_name Product_value      cv1
p1                    10                      5
p2                    20                      8
p3                   30                      3So,i want to display prouduct_name ,product_value and current value in order to get the product_name i hard coded the value in fx itself like 'P1' and used the union operation to get the data for all products under one column called product_name.
I enabled the navigation for each product.I have a trend graph with all these products data .When i click on any product it has to show that product graph only and also
i want to get the all product_names at top.By using pivot table(same as above but moved the product_name column into page section of pivot table) .But when i click on the P1 i am not getting the Respective value the graph is not changing.
Is there any way to do this in rpd by adding an extra column to get the union operation there itself.

I have a subscription system, where people can subscribe to a publication during a certain period of time. I would like to know how long a person has subscribed to any publication, so i wonder does anyone know how to perform a "date range union"? By that, i mean that a query on this data:

So there can be any number of periods, and they can overlap entirely as well as "on one end".
I have solved this using PL/SQL, but would like to know if there is a SQL solution. I have also solved this with a fixed number of periods (2,3...) but not with any number.

The code below works fine when selecting 1 ID in the SUBSELECT, but with multiple ID it still selects rownum=1 (of course). This as far as my thinking takes me.

How to approach in getting the dates for the user given periods

Hi All,
I have areuirement where the calendar would be like as 466 for a period
for eg. period 1(Jan) has 4 weeks
period 2(Feb) has 6 weeks
period 3(Mar) has 6 weeks
again period 4(Apr) has 4 weeks
period 5(May) has 6 weeks
period 6(June) has 6 weeks
How to get the dates (from date and end date) for the periods.

You will need to use union report, and you would have fours union's in this report.
Union - 1: Data from 1st Date Range
Union - 2: Data from 2nd Date Range
Union - 3: Variance Calculation
Union - 4: Percentage Variance Calculation.
If the date's are coming from the same field, use cast function to use the same column twice in your prompts. Apply filters on each union as needed.

I need this query to pull the data for the last 3rd business day .So lets say today is monday then i need the data for last week wednesday which is 3 business days back from monday, if today is a tuesday it would be for last thursday ( as 3 business days for
tuesday would be thursday). But if today is wednesday then i need to be last 3rd business day which is last friday and i also need to get the data for saturday and sunday.
Can someone please help me how cani change my filter to do this?

I have had my IPAD2 for quite a while but haven't activated my cellular data for about a year. I am now trying to activate and when I go to cellular data, turn it on and try to tap view account i just get a message that says "connection to server lost".

I could swear the last time I used cellular data you would see the signal in the upper left corner and I only see "no service" there, I am in a location where I know I should have service. Is there something I should do to my IPAD? I tried resetting, I tried clearing cookies and history in Safari (after reading a post n these discussions). I don't know what to do next. My IOS version is 6.1.3. I did go into Network from the general tab and I see it says "SIM not provisioned". HELP and Thank you in advance.

It sounds like the cellular data will not activate for some reason on the iPad.
I found this article that will help you resolve this issue here, named iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular Models): Troubleshooting a cellular data connection, found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4249
Check for a carrier settings update.
Update your iPad.
Toggle the Cellular Data setting off and on under Settings > Cellular Data.
Restart your iPad.
Tap Settings > General > About. Locate the Carrier entry and make sure that your carrier is correct.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Cellular Data > SIM PIN.
Make sure you're in an area of good coverage. If the cellular data connection works in another area, contact your carrier to report the original affected area.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Restore the iPad as new.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, contact your carrier, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
I know you may have done one or two of the steps here, so you can skip those.

"use cellular data for" apps keep turning back on

ie. go in, slide bar from green to off for facetime, youtube, etc...go out of Cellular, back in, and those apps show green for "use cellular data for".
At first I thought it was an issue with some versions of Angry Birds, as they don't all do this. Then realized facetime, youtube, facebook, etc.. all do this.
Works fine on two other iphones. Running latest ios on 4S
The fact it doesn't do it for all apps is what I find is strange. Thought at first it was an issue with Rovio apps, but then realized even facetime does this.

I'd like to know why there is not solution to this. I think I'll just remove all those apps that are turning their 'use cellular' data back on. I only cared because when my kid plays angry birds, my cellular data was being used for videos. Oh well, I guess I'll have to remove apps or get a new data plan.

Have family plan with 250 data which I almost use each month. Going on vacation and will be on the road for two weeks. Should I up my data for a month then change back. Is it worth it or should I just run over and pay the extra 15 per gig?

Hello mlazaretti. Vacation time is awesome. (Especially a road trip!) Since you will be going out for two weeks, you never know if having extra data may come in handy. I highly recommend switching to the next tier up so this way you have more data. This way it is only $10.00 more versus $15.00, and you dont have to worry about overages. Then change back at the start of the next billing cycle.
