Datetime conversion from Sybase to 8i bad

The control files created with OMW for sql*loader do not load the migrated tables correctly from Sybase BCP files. Does anyone know what the correct CTL files should be for datetime (SYBASE) -> date (ORACLE 8i)?

I changed ctl file from
DATE_TIME "TO_DATE(substr(:DATE_TIME,1,19),'yyyy-mm-dd HH24:mi:ss')",
to
DATE_TIME "TO_DATE(substr(:DATE_TIME,1,19),'MON DD YYYY HH24:mi:ss')",
and it works in Oracle 734. You can try that

    The Oracle Migration Workbench will produce the appropriate bcp and sqlldr scripts if you are using the workbench for the migration. The latest workbench runs on windows but can connect to sybase on unix and oracle on unix over the network.

  • Implicit Conversion from data type sql_variant to datetime is not allowed.

     Getting a odd error. This code was working perfectly before a SQLServer upgrade.
    The linked database is working, I'm able to pull up data from it in separate queries just fine.
    I'm getting the following error.
    Implicit conversion from data type sql_variant to datetime is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query.
    Invalid column name 'TotalDay'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
    can anyone spot the issue? I've tried sever variations of the same code, but still get the same thing.
    If I put this section in a query by it self it works just fine.

    It is not a good idea to use string dates for predicates in WHERE clauses.
    Use DATETIME or DATE in predicates.
    If you are not interested in the time part of DATETIME, use DATE datatype.

    Duration as a timestamp? How odd, most people would store it
    as an integer. Or, if you want to build your own string, the syntax
    is {ts 'yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss'}. The seconds might not be required.
    In any event, use createodbcdatetime() for the value you want
    to put into your table.

  • DATE vs DATETIME conversion

    I am running into a strange issue which is preventing me to finish my project. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 
    It looks like the CONVERT (the same goes for CAST) function treats DATE and DATETIME conversions differently when executed by a user with the Dutch language settings.
    Here is what I mean, I run the following query:
    SELECT CONVERT(DATE, '2014-09-01 23:00:00'), CONVERT(DATETIME, '2014-09-01 23:00:00')
    The results are:
    2014-09-01, 2014-01-09 23:00:00
    The conversion to DATETIME swapped the month and the day around, while this doesn't happen for the DATE conversion. The DATE conversion is the correct format, since I supplied it YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss.
    When I run the same query using a user with the default language settings (en-US I assume) the same query works fine (no swapping of month and day values). 
    Can someone explain why this is happening? And maybe more important how to prevent it or workaround it (changing the language for the user from Dutch to default is not an option)?

    CONVERT() is an old Sybase string function. It was created to keep 960's COBOL programmers happy since SQL does not have a PICTURE clause to put data in display formats. 
    CAST() is the ANSI/ISO Standard function to convert data types and this is what you should be using. It is not a string function. It uses the ISO-8601 standard for dates (yyyy-mm-dd), as you have seen. This is the only -– repeat, only! -- format allowed in
    SQL. Microsoft is a few decades behind and trying to catch up now.
    A good SQL programmer will do any local display formatting in the presentation, which will handle local languages that are never used in the database. Want to have some fun? The names of months in Polish, Czech, Croatian, Ukrainian and Belarusian not based

    I am fetching a date from DeliveryDate TextBox from Sales Order. I enter as 10/03/2007. As I need to fetch this value and store it in Production Order DueDate records through SDK Code.When I fetch this value from code,I get as 20070310. When I try to update my Production Order DueDate it gives me an Error Msgbox “Conversion from string “20070310” to type ‘Date’ is not valid.” Here is my code to update production order.

    Now I have created an object of ProductionOrder and try to add Records,

    Hi Murtuza,
    Retrieving the value from a date-field through the value always returns the date as a string in the format yyyymmdd.
    the field DueDate is a field of type DateTime.Date. to enter the date in this field, you must convert the string to a date.
    The following line converts the date-string to a date.
    new DateTime.Date(left(DelDt,4), mid(DelDt,5,2), right(DelDt,2))

    Hello,
    Jjust a little question to our SAP BI community!
    Is there a BI function/ggod way that converts a (datetime) string DDMMYYYYHH:MM:SS  in UTC time zone into a string DDMMYYYYHH:MM:SS in  CET timezone ?
    We receive this string in input in a flat file and need it to convert from UTC to CET.
    Or do you know any way to convert a date/time from IUTC to CET, eveen using an ABAP function?

  • Migrating table from Sybase 12 to Oracle 10g

    Hi ,
    We have a situation where we have to migrate multiple Sybase databases to Oracle10g . These multiple database have same set of tables but different data in these tables on each sybase database ( data differ, based on location or region wise but same table name and structure). We want to migrate all these sybase database to Oracle 10g and in single database, which involves inserting data from multiple tables ( though they exist on different database in sybase) into single Oracle table.
    for example if we have a table 'TESTK' that exist on five different sybase database but with different region wise data. I want to bring data from these five tables( Five as they exist in five differet sybase databases) and insert them into a single oracle table 'TESTK' .
    Have anybody ever face such scenerio , what are all possible approch please suggest. Once data is inserted into oracle table i need to partitioned this oracle table as well.

    It is not quite clear whether you have multiple tables (referencing each other) in multiple sybase databases or either one table or several non connected tables in multiple sybase databases.
    In the first case of course your task is harder because you need to keep references and most probably you cannot blindly copy data from db 1, db 2 and unite them because they can have the same id's coming from different sources.
    In the second case your task of course is much easier you can simply load all your data in Oracle tables either using some interim tables (if you need to filter out duplicates) or load data straight into target tables if you are sure you haven't duplicates.
    Also another question in case 1 is whether intersection of your data is 0 rows i.e. all data are completely different in each source db or not.
    So I'm sure you can find tools for blindly moving data from sybase to Oracle, although if you need to do some more complex filtering, computation or whatever you most probably need to write it yourself.
    I'v done a few data conversion projects from one schema to another and as the requirements were quite complex the only possibility for us was to initiate a separate data conversion project and create conversion software (pl/sql packages manually).

  • Migrating from Sybase Anywhere to ASE

    I am in process of migrating from Sybase Anywhere to ASE and trying to import a table from Anywhere to ASE, I getting following error message that could not find appropriate data type for column - now this column from Anywhere has data type of datetime.

    ASE does not have any wizards so you must be using some sort of GUI/tool/application.
    What GUI/tool/application are you using? PowerDesigner? Sybase Central? Sybase Control Center? Something else?
    Can you *connect* to the ASA and ASE instances with this GUI/tool/application? [Forget the 'import' operation for the moment ... and verify you can just *connect* to both ASA and ASE.]
    Also, what is the actual/complete error message?
    NOTE: I don't use GUI/tools so depending on the error there may not be much more I can assist with.

  • Loss of quality in conversion from 16 to 8 bit

    Hi, I have a raw image taken with a Canon G12 and converted to 16 bit psd file.  When converting to 8 bit I notice a significant loss of oomph to the image - iI don't know how to describe it but it seems a little washed out, a lack of saturation, contrast or vibrance or something.  Still not bad but not as good.  With 16M colors available in 8 bit images, is this normal or have I got a setting wrong somewhere eg color space etc ?  TIA

    Hi. Progress!  I paid more attention to the conversion process and converted a 16 bit image (with Photoshop CS5 Extended 64bit),
    to 8 bit using the menu Image/Mode/8 bit, and the appearance of the images is identical in Photoshop CS5.  This would seem to rule out monitor issues.
    However when viewed in PSE8,  a significant amount of vibrance/brightness/saturation (for want of a better term) is absent from the 8 bit image.  Alternatively, or perhaps in addition to that, the 16 bit seemed to have MORE vibrance/brightness/saturation than the PSCS5 version. I checked the color settings in PSE8 and I had "Optimize for printing" checked so I changed it to "optimize for screen" and updated thumbnails, and there was no change to the discrepancy between the two copies of the photo in question. Could there be a difference in the way PSE8 displays 16 bit and 8 bit images or the way PSE8 uses information recorded by CS5/ACR 6.3 during the conversion from Canon raw .cr2 to .psd 16bit?  i.e. does PSCS5/ACR 6.3 record in the psd file, the tweaks made during the conversion from cr2 to psd, and this information be used during display in PSE8 somehow?  TIA again.

    While migrating the stored procedure the following block did not convert. I got NULL instead of object_id:

  • Experiences migrating from Sybase to Oracle

    I have been asked to look into migrating a database from Sybase to Oracle.
    I know there is lots of info on Oracle's website, which I have downloaded, but I was just hoping for some info about some of your experiences regarding your processes. What are the gotchas. I suspect there will be a few.

    HI VicC,
    I work within the SQL Developer team and not a customer as such, but the follow maybe of use.
    SQL Developer is a migration aid, its not 100% magic bullet.
    SQL Developer does alot of the manual conversion for you quickly. But you may find Testing / Tuning and the application migration (if any) take you the most amount of time.
    SQL Developer aims to migrate you tables, indexes, and data without issue. But SQL Objects like Procedures, Triggers, Views and Functions conversion will likely require manual work on top of the automatic conversion provided by SQL Developer.
    SQL Developer does not yet automatically handle things like the tablespaces structure or the the logins. Although these things can be scripted and managed more easily within SQL Developer.
    I would recommend downloading and performing the migration from a non production instance ASAP.
    SQL Developer can perform a migration quickly and you will then be able to assess what SQL Developer can and cant do for you.
    I would recommend creating a migration repository on an Oracle database local (install Oracle XE if you dont have a local database) to the SQL Developer instance you are using.
    I would also recommend downloading SQL Developer 2.1

    Hi Guys,
    I have to convert UTC or GMT DateTime to Australia Local DateTime Conversion (Melbourne, Victoria) and we need to consider Daylight Saving which starts every Year October first Sunday so Time difference between UTC and AUS Local Time will be 11 hours
    from Daylight Saving Start Date to Daylight Saving End Date which finishes on 1st Sunday of April Month every Year.
    Other that Daylight Saving Time Difference between UTC and VIC loacal time is 10 Hours. So Non Daylight Starts on
    1st Sunday of April Month every Year and ends on October first Sunday every Year.
    Note: On first Sunday of October Month at 2 AM, Our System Time moves 1 hour ahead so It displays 3 AM. Our Wrist Watch, you adjust manually and we make 1 hour ahead. So Technically Time between 2 AM to 2:59:59:599 does not exists in
    Melbourne and 2 AM means 3 AM and 2:10 AM means 3:10 AM Etc

  • Getting ÿþ as saved conversations from Lync in Outlook in Office 2013

    Hi,
    I've been trying to get to the bottom of this and have found similar posts, but no one seems to have an answer.
    When I IM someone using Lync 2013, they get a pop up notification but instead of the message they see ÿþ<.  Once they open the chat window, they can see my typed text.  Occasionally, certain people can't see the first line of my chat, but as
    long as they keep the chat window open, they can see everything new I type.
    All my conversations that are saved in outlook show ÿþ< for the text and are unreadable.  I've disabled the saving of conversations because they have become worthless.
    I believe it has to do with BOM but have not been able to find a way to fix this.
    If I copy a conversation from the chat window and paste it into Microsoft Word it shows ÿþ<, but if I paste it into notepad the conversation appears.
    (I had inserted a screenshot here, but am unable to because I am unable to figure out how to get my account "verified")
    I've tried changing the preferred encoding for outgoing messages: to Unicode (UTF-8) in Outlook, but this had no effect and I can't find a similar option in Lync 2013.

    I enabled logging for Lync and the event IDs that come up are 1, 11 and 12, to which I cannot find any information for at the moment.
    Any help and or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Did the issue happen only for you or for multiple users?
    Please try to delete Lync User Profile and information on Registry, then repair Office 2013.
    The path of Lync User Profile: %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
    The path for information on Registry: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    Then test the issue again.
