Getting ÿþ as saved conversations from Lync in Outlook in Office 2013

Hi,
I've been trying to get to the bottom of this and have found similar posts, but no one seems to have an answer.
When I IM someone using Lync 2013, they get a pop up notification but instead of the message they see ÿþ<.  Once they open the chat window, they can see my typed text.  Occasionally, certain people can't see the first line of my chat, but as
long as they keep the chat window open, they can see everything new I type.
All my conversations that are saved in outlook show ÿþ< for the text and are unreadable.  I've disabled the saving of conversations because they have become worthless.
I believe it has to do with BOM but have not been able to find a way to fix this.
If I copy a conversation from the chat window and paste it into Microsoft Word it shows ÿþ<, but if I paste it into notepad the conversation appears.
(I had inserted a screenshot here, but am unable to because I am unable to figure out how to get my account "verified")
I've tried changing the preferred encoding for outgoing messages: to Unicode (UTF-8) in Outlook, but this had no effect and I can't find a similar option in Lync 2013.
(I had inserted a screenshot here, but am unable to because I am unable to figure out how to get my account "verified")
I enabled logging for Lync and the event IDs that come up are 1, 11 and 12, to which I cannot find any information for at the moment.
Any help and or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,
Did the issue happen only for you or for multiple users?
Please try to delete Lync User Profile and information on Registry, then repair Office 2013.
The path of Lync User Profile: %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
The path for information on Registry: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
Then test the issue again.
Best Regards,

  • How can i get my saved files from 4.1 to show up on 5.n?

how can i get my saved files from 4.1 to show up on 5.n?

The document saving portion of the app was moved to the printer control app for the 5.0 update. You can use file sharing to copy the files from your device with 4.1, and then copy them in to the printer control app after. This can either be done wirelessly, or by USB through itunes. The document below will show you how to do both options to get them copied off of the device. Then you simply do the same steps in the printer control app to copy files back in.

  • Lync 2010 Compatibility with Office 2013

    Hi Team,
We are planning to upgrade to Microsoft Office 2013 SP1. But we are planning to retain Lync 2010 in place. Would it cause any compatibility issues with the outlook add-in? Conversation history? on schedule Lync Meeting?
    Thanks,
    V
    Vas

Those should work, are you upgrading the client to 2013 as well and keeping the 2010 back end server? If so, this is supported and very compatible with a caveat found in this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204672.aspx If you're keeping
the 2010 Lync client (you don't have to), then you should be fine as well. Nothing will reassure you like a quick test on one of your own machines though. :)

  • Lync 2010 client and Office 2013

I have Office 2013 installed minus Lync 2013 and have Lync 2010 installed in its place, we have a Lync 2010 infrastructure and are planning on upgrading our customers’s workstations to office 2013 and maintaining the Lync 2010
    clients.
Is it expected behavior in this scenario to get prompted with the “Join the meeting using your web browser”, “Download and install Lync Attendee” & “Use Communicator” page when attpempting to join a meeting?
    Thanks….

    Thanks for the reply.
The reason that we though to stay with the Lync 2010 client is that we were told that the Lync 2013 client only communicates to the Lync 2010 back-end via the Lync Edge servers. In looking at the Lync 2013 client configuration
information I see that Inside User Status: True which looks like it might not be communicating via the Edge servers.
Is this a valid reason not to push forward with Lync 2013 client while still having Lync 2010 back-end?
    Thanks…

  • Unable to restart the Microsoft Software Protection Platform service from command line - Win81 MS Office 2013 SP1

I'm unable to restart the Microsoft Software Protection Platform service on a Windows 8.1 laptop for MS Office 2013 SP1 (32-bit) using the following command:
    cscript ospp.vbs /osppsvcrestart (issued from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15)
When this is run, a window appears with the title ospp.vbs and the text "Error: The Software Protection Platform service is not installed"
I verified that the service is installed in services.msc, and was able to manually stop and restart the SPP service in the Services console without issue.
The command runs correctly when restarting the MS Office 2013 SPP on Windows 7 devices.
Has anyone else seen this or have a solution for it?
The reason that I am attempting to restart the service from the command line is because this command is part of a script to change the KMS server IP Address used by OSPP prior to software activation.
The only other options that I have at this time is to ask the users to reboot, or manually force a reboot.  This is both time consuming and disruptive to the users.
The Fix It tool to remove MS Office 2013 was run, and the MS Office 2013 software was successfully reinstalled after a reboot.  The software was successfully activated.  When the command was run, it produced the same exact error.

    Hi,
I am able to reproduce this on my own machine, but in my case, I don't see the specific service running in the Services console.
I would like first confirm that whether you've the right service running on your Windows 8.1 system. The display name of this service should be "Office Software Protection Platform", service name is "osppsvc".
You can also check this by going to below path where you should see the executable file (OSPPSVC.EXE) if the service is installed on your system (in my case, the folder is empty):
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform

It's recommended to download and install
Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office

  • Transferring saved messages from a Windows Outlook Express

    Hi
Can anyone tell me if there is any way to transfer my emails that I saved in Outlook Express in my old PC to a local folder in Mail?
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Jimbo

The really easy way to import mail from Outlook Express, Outlook, or any number of other email programs is to set up a.mac account (IMAP) on your Apple computer, close the program, then set up your IMAP .mac account in Outlook Express (be sure to download and show IMAP folders in Outlook Express or Outlook) on your old computer. Then from OE, simply drag and drop all your email (or folders for that matter) into the appropriate folder in the IMAP folder list, which will be displayed below the regular OE folders. Then, close OE or Outlook, and go to your Apple computer and open Mail---all your email will be in the IMAP folders just where you moved them.
The important concept in this is that you have to use an IMAP account to transfer the email (Mail and .mac, but there is a 60-day free trial so it doesn't cost anything, or, use another IMAP account, any one will do).
I do this all the time because I have to work from different computers on the same accounts and files, and everything has to be in sync. It's easy, doesn't cost anything, and everything always gets transfered, as opposed to the sometime failures of transfer programs.

  • Getting user presence availability from Lync Online

    Hello.
Suppose we have an organization where all users have a Lync account, and the organization uses Lync Online (i.e. not an on-premise server).
We would like to retrieve the presence availability (online, busy, etc.) of any specific user (to display on an intranet user profile page) without actually being logged on with a Lync client.
Is there any way to do this through for instance PowerShell or any other mechanism/API in Office 365? Would it be possible to set up a provider of sorts from which the presence availability could be requested?
P.S. I am posting the question here, because I cannot find a dedicated Lync Online forum here.
    Cheers,
    Lasse Jensen
    Oxygen Software

This is currently not possible with Office365.  The only supported SDK for interacting with O365 is the Lync client SDK.  I believe it is on the road map to enable UCWA access at some point in the future (no promises here).

    What can be disabling this?
    Thank you for your time.

    Hi,
You are using Outlook 2013, right?
However, "Folder Id: Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\RPC\ProxyServerName" implies it's the setting for Outlook 2007.
As for Outlook 2013, it should be 15.0 instead of 12.0.
Please confirm that and change the settings to try again.

  • Outlook Anywhere, Office 2013 + Exchange 2013 freezes

    Hi.
I'm pulling my hair out with this problem as it seems to make no sense.
I have a client using outlook 2013 through outlook anywhere to their new server running Exchange 2013. when outlook is opened it seems to work for about 10 mins or so then after that if you go to send an email it freezes and says it trying to contact the
server. you wait for 10 mins then it works again for a while.
I've changed the timeout settings on the server and everything, they are currently experiencing this in their Spanish office which connects back to the UK.
No if they dial up the vpn ( no settings changed at all) and run outlook, it all works perfectly..... No one in the UK office (about 10 users) have any issues its only the 2 people in Spain, and one of them uses the laptop in the UK office that they have
    in Spain with no issues.
I have a CA certificate from slls so not using a self certified one. however its not a wildcard so I haven't set-up on the external domain dns and instead just manually enter the settings (which works fine)
Its almost as if after 10 mins some connection drops but then takes ages to reconnect again.
There are a lot of schannel errors appearing on the machines which suggests they are looking at the wrong ports for connection on a couple of attempts, but the questions is why? and whether this has anything to do with the OA problem.
If anyone has some fresh ideas or any thoughts i would be very grateful as this is driving me round the bend, and i have 2 other clients who have a very similar set-up but have no issues.
Router Spanish side is a Comcast router and UK side is a draytek 2820
Exchange is running on Server 2012 with both the CA and Mailbox roles on the same server.
heeeellp before I go bald :)

    Hi,
Please have the users in Spain open Outlook, go to FILE
-> Account Settings -> Account Settings -> Double click the account name ->
More Settings -> Connection tab -> Select
Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP, and click Exchange Proxy Settings, tick
On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP
    -> OK.
We can also have the users in Spain test the connectivity to Exchange via Remote Connectivity Analyzer to find if there's any error.

    Hi
The solution is to do a ‘repair’ install of Office 2013.  This will reregister the needed components and the popups will stop.
A repair install can be done from ‘Programs and Features’, highlight Office 2013 and click ‘Change’.  When the install wizard appears, choose the ‘repair’ option.

  • I have upgraded Acrobat Standard from version 8 through time until I am currently using version X, which doesn't work with Office 2013.  Can I upgrade to version Standard XI?

Over the years I have upgraded Acrobat Standard from version 8 to currently working with version X.
However, since getting a new laptop it doesn't work with Office 2013.
Can I upgrade to Standard XI?

Upgrade pricing now only applies to version 9 and X. So if you have a retail serial number for X, you should be able to upgrade. (Or consider subscription).
